Very disappointing. Staff was snooty, aloof and not welcoming (especially the maitre d' in restaurant). Room was nice but nothing exceptional. Not at all worth the money. Very pretty setting but that's about all this place has going for it.

Save your money for the Inn at Little Washington.

Save your money for the Inn at Little Washington.

The pool was less than relaxing.

Came here to relax and get away from the noise of the city. Came to the pool at 11:00 AM this morning. It s now 2:00 PM and there has been nonstop landscaping noise. First a gas powered leaf blower and now a gas powered lawn mower. Why are they conducting landscape maintenance in the middle of the day, on a weekend, when the pool is clearly surrounded by couples trying to relax? It feels like they have mowing the same area for the last three hours.

Our dining experience was inexcusable.

1) One of the servers doused themselves in a kiddie pool of perfume or cologne. Being overly-perfumed almost always overwhelms a person s palate, distracting from (or covering up) the nuance of dishes and drinks.

2) The six course tasting menu with wine pairings took 2.5 hours and as many as twenty-two minutes between courses where we were left twiddling our thumbs waiting for the next course to arrive.

3) Not once did our wine pairing come with our course. It was always poured well in advance of our course. In one case, twenty-two minutes before our course arrived. Wines were also not presented in their correct glasses. Although our pairing included full bodied red wines, we had the same white wine glass for all but the sparkling wine.

4) The Sommelier cleary favored the couple behind us. They also had the tasting menu. He gave them larger pours, in the correct glasses, generally topped them off each time and awarded them a glass of desert wine at the end of their meal.

Guests see tasting menus as a more elevated offering that they re willing to splurge on, an opportunity for a deeper connection with the chef, and a memorable dining experience overall. We experienced none of this.

I m giving this establishment two stars because, in the end, we did bring it up to the General Manager and he comped our bill.

Awesome experience. My husband and I had dinner at the Bistro for our wedding anniversary and it was amazing. Everything about the evening was amazing. From the moment we entered the restaurant the staff was so attentive and the waiter was so polite and nice during the entire service. All the staff that served us this evening were amazing. They helped to make our wedding anniversary even more special. The food was out of this world delicious. Kudos to the chef. Thanks for a great evening and great service I would give 10 stars if I could, we will definitely be returning.

Underwhelmed. For the rate that is similar to the Ritz, I expect flawless room and service. However, the bed was not a queen size bed, not comfortable, rocky and squeaky. I could not sleep because of the loud AC unit. The food was not as exquisite as I anticipated, the breakfast that is supposed to be included gives you the option of one item to choose. The morning shift waiter doesn t listen! We asked for non-dairy milk, the response was immediately negative, even though, there was coconut milk on the menu and there was almond milk yesterday night. I expect to have almond milk all the time in the kitchen in an estate like this. We asked to fill the provided bike s tires in air, they neglected our request.

A very nice "Inn in the Country" vibe. The new dining room is very impressive but it's so much fun to just sit by the fire in the bar area and soak in the ambiance. Kudos to the Wine Director for a supurb list.

My husband and I went to the Goodstone Inn and Resaurant for our anniversary. This beautiful Inn is tucked way in the farm land and hills of Northern Virginia. Although we did not stay in the inn we did have dinner at the restaurant and were able to walk around the grounds after we finish. The restaurant has a simple elegance that is very charming. From the moment we walked in the door we felt at home. Every service team member was friendly and exceeded our expectations, providing excellent service. This was our first time eating French cuisine and we found it outstanding. My lamb was cooked perfectly and my husband s fish was delightful. Our dessert was brought out in dishes that had Happy 23rd Anniversary written in chocolate around the edge. This was such a sweet and special touch. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion.

I had very high expectations for my meal at Goodstone and, frankly, they were not met. At this price point I'd recommend almost anything else. The venue is lovely but the food and service are not up to scratch. My husband and I had an early dinner reservation for Christmas. The pre fixe menu was nicely thought out but honestly the food was under-seasoned to the point of being bland. My main pork was laughably tough to the point that the steak knife couldn't really offer any help. Everything was just... meh. But all of that could have been eclipsed by stellar service! Unfortunately none was to be had. I know, it was a major holiday, but at $500 for two people I expect to at least be treated like an adult in a fine dining establishment. When I asked for tasting notes for a wine I was given a two word answer. (Ok, maybe this server doesn't know the wine but we were assured that the light red would be a good pairing for the meal. Not only was this untimely wrong, there was a semmelier! Why didn't he come over to make some suggestions? Or even acknowledge us at some point? He made multiple rounds of the room and never stopped by our table.) Our bottle was brought out cold. Not cool, cold. I want my $150 wine served at a drinkable temperature, not leaving me trying to warm a glass up with my hands so I can get any sort of flavor. When we asked the waitress about it (I was hoping they'd take it in the kitchen for a few minutes to take the worst of the chill off but never had a chance to ask) she rolled her eyes and wandered off without offering any help. From that point on she was short and frosty; it was very unpleasant. We quietly finished our meal as fast as possible. Overall there are many better options. I know that holidays are always a bad time to dine out but this really left a bad taste in my mouth. I just wanted a nice meal out with my husband. Instead I had some middling food, blah wine, and sad service. I'll spend my money elsewhere in the future.

My daughter and newly minted son in law just concluded their most beautiful wedding @ Goodstone.

Both sides of the family occupied the 5 separate houses on the property along with the adjacent rooms at the Inn.

First class treatment from Stephen Elhafdi and the entire organization. Waves and smiles from wherever your cross paths with the staff combined with their overreaching desire to provide a pinnacle level customer service.

The property, homes and Inn are all looked after and kept impeccably.

Highly endorsed and recommended to any looking to organize a memorable occasion.

Five Stars

Wonderful time, I brought my boyfriend here for the weekend for his birthday the 5th thru the 7th of December and we had the most amazing time. The food was amazing and the staff could not have been more accommodating, They were just lovely to work with in setting up the beautiful surprise weekend for the most amazing man I know. Thank you to Toni, Meme, Connie, Sarah, Austin, and Stephen. The breakfast left us wanting more. The most quaint wonderful breakfast we have been to in a long time. Had a very romantic air to it. the wait staff were wonderful as well. The room "Hayloft" above the carriage house was just simply wonderful. The oversized tub was awesome as well. There was a beautiful private balcony that we could sit and have wine on. Quite a lovely romantic weekend to celebrate the love of my life!

We stopped by for a drink and this wasn t our first time, but the service was subpar. No bartender and it took 3 people to finally get someone behind the bar. The two women looked frazzled and we weren t given the attention we received before. The gentleman in a sloppy attire, who was not a bar tender decided to finally get behind the bar and when we asked he said.. sure . Terrible attitude when I asked for a cocktail menu. He seemed annoyed that he had to go out of his way. We asked for an old fashioned which was so pink from muddled cherries it resembled and taste like cough syrup. I observed him reading how to mix the drinks off to the side. It s like fake it til you make it but don t make it obvious. People who were staying on the property or checking in where being revived well. It s a shame but this experience was felt a waste of time and money. We were deciding earlier on having lunch which is not cheap but glad we did not.

Staff was excellent. We were moved to this location due to power outage at the place we had reservations. Goodstone is very quaint and out away from the hustle and bustle of everything. The server was knowledgeable and on point. Would recommend this place for a stay and dinner. Very peaceful place.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay. The property is serene and beautiful. Accommodations are clean and comfortable. This place has so much history it feels like stepping back in time. The best part though is the level of service they provide. Everyone we spoke to so friendly and helpful.
We had a couple hiccups with our stay, but the way the staff handled it earns them a five star review. Courtney, Carlos and Cole in particular were wonderful to deal with. Thanks for a great stay! We will be back :)

We visited the restaurant for Christmas dinner and we're very underwhelmed with the food and the service.

We were directed to a bottle of wine ($150) by our server which was served to us at about 40 degrees (this is way too cold for red wine). Upon complaining the bottle was uncerimoniously moved to the table from the window, as if that's going to do anything, and our server walked off. Only then did we see the sommelier, who ignored us throughout the evening. The food was acceptable but anything but mind blowing and certainly not worth the trip or the $500 price.

The only reason I'm giving two starts is because the inn is delightfully picturesque, other than that it's a pass.

It was a gorgeous hidden respite. We had their tasting menu and the food was good and the service was good too, to a point. As soon as more patrons began arriving, our service attentiveness started lacking. Tasting menus usually take a while but this took a lot longer than expected . Our reservations were at 5:30pm and we didnt leave until 8:00pm. That was the only major negative. I wasnt crazy about the wine pairings that they provided as an option with the tasting menu either, but that wasnt so bad. The waiters themselves were very nice, friendly and personable. Overall, I would go back but not for the tasting menu service.

Really beautiful facility and fabulous food with people who love to serve. Some processes could be improved, like why the management drove our friends all over the property instead of calling our room to confirm where we were, but that's nothing when compared to the overall experience

Unfortunately, my stay at Goodstone was a little disappointing. Advertised as a 5-star hotel, you do not receive 5 star service or accommodation. Our $400 room had a squeaky, rocky bed, which made restful sleep difficult. Central air in the old building does not adequately cool the room, which means a loud wall unit is needed--which also hampers sleep. I believe the staff means well, and are generally pleasant, but some requests were overlooked, and dining staff needs a little more refinement. The grounds are terrific, lovely swimming pool, but accommodation needs serious attention to warrant the prices they charge and to maintain the 5-star rating.

The Goodstone Inn exemplifies a true luxury experience in the heart of the Virginia horse and foxhunting country. In fact , the inn is a fixture for the Middleburg Hunt which may ride by during your stay. Everything on the property, restaurant or overnight accommodations feels like an elegant estate in horse country. The new chef prepares amazing food and the extra care given to the customer by the wait staff, sommelier Stephen (the best) and Manager, Carlos make one feel almost royal. The new bistro with the piano and more casual dining offers a nice alternative as well. There may be other choices in Middleburg but none that have the same gracious hunt country feel. We did have one uncomfortable experience for Mother's Day when it was freezing in the dining room but at our last visit that was not a problem. We LOOOOVE this place.

Stayed here on a recent multi week tour through virginia wine country. We visited several luxury inns and B&Bs We had high hopes for our vist but were dissapointed that the property did not live up to its website description and photos. Amenities need some updating and cleaning. Dinner was nice but pricy. Overall I would not return.. certainly not for the prices they are charging.

My wife and I went here on our wedding night. The staff was extremely hospitable and generous. Everyone was congratulatory which made the experience more intimate. We were upgraded to the bull barn cottage for free and given complimentary champagne at dinner. The cottage was perfect. There was heated floors in the bathroom and a walk in steam shower. The bed was very comfortable and the fireplace was stocked with wood and kindling.

Dinner was superb. It was the best duck I ve had in the states. The filet was also perfectly cooked. We had a red wine from the Italian piedmont that paired nicely with the meal. After dinner we headed up to the bar for a couple Old Fashioned s. They didn t skimp on the liquor either.
Breakfast was complimentary and delicious. The eggs Benedict was awesome and the side of sausage I got was some of the best sausage links I ve had.

Hope to make coming here a tradition

I recently had the pleasure of spending two incredible days at the Goodstone Inn. My colleagues and I retreated to this amazing Country Inn for our 2013 planning meeting. It was not only relaxing and extremely enjoyable, but the service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We enjoyed libations at the cozy bar area and then enjoyed a gourmet dinner in the main dining room. The food, atmosphere, and service were all excellent. The rooms are impeccable and clearly have been maintained to the highest standard. If you are looking for a unique experience, this is the place to visit. They are clearly trained to provide an experience you will not forget. We will definitely return in the future.

Amidst the pandemic going on, Goodstone Inn was extremely professional, efficient, and resourceful during our anniversary stay. It was the perfect getaway, especially with how beautifully landscaped the grounds were.

We stayed at the Bull Barn Cottage and it was charming and secluded. The Inn provided us complimentary bikes during our stay, to explore the 200+ acre property. They also provided binoculars for bird watching-these additional touches were wonderful.

The complimentary breakfast was delicious and prepared beautifully! And even better, knowing their products was grown locally on the property.

Even though we were not able to interact with staff too often, Kylie, Sarah, and Betsy were very accommodating via phone with anything my wife and I needed during our stay.

Thank you Goodstone Inn and staff! We will most definitely be returning.

Goodstone Inn seemed like an amazing venue choice ...

Goodstone Inn seemed like an amazing venue choice when my now wife and I decided to book in early 2018. Unfortunately, there was a change in both general management of the venue as well as management of weddings and events in the summer of 2018, and the quality of service, professionalism, and value completely went down hill. Often my emails weren't acknowledged for weeks, or without my having to conduct several calls, voicemails, etc. We were lied to consistently about what was working or possible on the property (lighting, use of spaces, etc), and had to revamp plans throughout the last two months of wedding planning. The most disappointing part, though, was the lack of care from Laura Petrosino and the General Manager. I have never experienced so much push back and such a lack of accommodation from a venue that hosts large and upscale events. Truly, truly disappointing. To end my experience at Goodstone, I was more than double charged for my final bill after receiving no response or notice for over 3 weeks. It took me having to reach out to the venue once again, by se real different methods, to receive a response and a credit for the oversight.

Goodstone is beautiful, unfortunately the service no longer matches that of other beautiful, luxury, and accommodating venues in the area. Spare yourself the stress.

My husband and I celebrated at Goodstone last night. We selected a spectacular bottle of 2007 Chilean wine. The sommelier, Stephen, was awesome and he carefully decanted our wine for us. It was quite an experience! I had never seen a bottle filtered and stirred so carefully before. The chef, Eric, is very talented! The food is worth every penny. We started with a macerated tomato with ham, then had the pork belly with lavender honey. The combinations that the chef puts together is creative and exciting! We also tried an amazing raw scallop and peach appetizer. The two textures together were perfect. We also had a delicious fresh ricotta cheese, tomato, and croutons appetizer. I don t know what the chef did to the croutons but they were better than donuts! My husband and I both had the steak. The steak was prepared perfectly and was served with purple potato and these amazing carrots. Even my husband (who avoids vegetables) just loved these carrots. The morel mushrooms were incredible as well. Every bite was eaten! This was our favorite meal ever!

This is our second visit and sadly it was no where as good as the first time. We had the lamb and beef tenderloin as our main courses. We ended up switching between us as both dishes missed the mark. You shouldn't leave a restaurant of this caliber thinking about going somewhere else. The sommelier is amazing though. He has picked our wine for both visits and his selections have been amazing. The staff is top notch and very friendly, any questions asked were answered thoroughly.
This should be a 3.5 stars but there is no option for a half star.
One subpar night is not enough to keep us from returning. I would still recommend Goodstone and we will go back ourselves.
