GM Choi Do Center Reviews

GM Do Center has only been open for 2 years at this location, however Grand Master Choi has been teaching Taekwondo for decades. He is the real deal. With him, you get as close to a true Korean taekwondo experience as you will find anywhere in this area. He is strict and doesn t just teach the martial arts, but discipline, respect, and confidence. Mrs. Choi is also a black belt, and works in small groups. More than anything... she nurtures and cares for each and every child that comes through those doors. The martial art way of life is very rigid, and to move forward you must focus, and be intent on your goal, and GM Choi encourages that at every turn. This is not a daycare center, and your child will not be coddled. They will get a true martial arts experience, and walk away with life skills, confidence, and a respect for themselves and others, that is some times lacking in this day and age. Being korean, I appreciate the authenticity of the experience. I will always be grateful that GM Choi and his wife opened their doors to my family.

This place doesn t even deserve 1 star... google should make 0 stars possible. My son has been going here for 2+ years and the amount of disrespect that Mr. Choi has for my child is unbelievable. He pretends to be nice when the parents are there and once the parents leave he is a bully to the children. He calls them names and makes fun of them, he talks down to his wife in front of the children which sets a horrible example. My kid will no longer be going here and I encourage other parents who take there children here to turn around and run.

My kid has been going to grand master Choi for almost 2 yrs. He s learned a lot discipline, respect, confidence and teamwork.

I trained with Grandmaster Choi for several years in TKD and Kumdo (Korean sword) and I have to say it was one of the most memorable, tough, yet enjoyable training experiences of my life. His knowledge in martial arts is incredible and I feel lucky to have trained with him. His manner on the floor is stern and brusque (he s very old school) and some may find it too intense but honestly, if they think that (he s too intense), they should not join this school. Grandmaster Choi is a very kind person but because he has extremely high standards, on the floor he demands a lot from the students. Don t come here if you want your child babied or if you want to stay in your comfort zone. If you want your child to learn or you want to learn discipline, rigor and traditional high level Korean martial arts, then this is the place for you. One thing that is extremely special and rare about Grandmaster Choi is his unparalleled knowledge of the body, as an acupuncturist. I ve gotten acupuncture treatment from him and he is head and shoulders above anyone else I ve ever gone to. He s a true traditional Grandmaster in his big picture view of your training. The only reason I m not still training with him, is that hid school is too far away from my home, otherwise I d definitely would continue my martial arts journey. I still see him ince in a while for treatment and training and always treasure my dealings with him.

Great place to learn all aspects of the martial art of tae kwon do. Great family atmosphere and great for all ages. Adults and juniors

GM Choi's center is fairly new it recently and I've decided to take clases because I heard of him thru word of mouth. After meeting with Mr.Choi and verifying his training credentials, Mr.Choi is the REAL DEAL!! If you are looking to increase your knowledge and martial ability he is very technical, detailed oriented and takes his time to individually sharpen your technique. He is very traditional and old school, which is what I personally love about Mr.Choi. He takes martial arts very seriously and wether you have any concerns, from competition to sports medicine to traditional herbal remedies, he is a treasure trove of knowledge and an inspiration to be around. If you live in or out of the area (I live in Mount Vernon) just stop on by and take a look or just take an intro. class to get a feel of it, it will be worth your time.
