A wonderful setting to enjoy Opera. Situated in the South Downs National Park you can see so much of Mother Natures beauty while enjoying a picnic.

Some visitors ask the butler to serve them the sandwiches and champagne. The rest of us prefer to do it ourselves.

SHeep or cattle are in adjacent fields and the parkland is kept immaculately bt a dedicated staff of gardeners/

Overall a wonderful place to visit.

Any opera lovers should try Glyndebourne at least once, it is strange, outdated and a bit pretentious but at the end it's a place with heart run by people that really care about music and operatic excellence.

Opera may not be your scene but a visit to Glyndbourne is as much about the experience as it is the performance. Firstly there are the beautiful gardens to explore and enjoy watching all the other guests, there's undoubtedly some characters among them. Then entering the auditorium is an experience in itself, so unlike any other I have seen, beautifully crafted in wood. The interval is deliberately long allowing time for a meal, be it picnic on the lawn or in one of the restaurants. After the performance you can join the rush to leave or better, follow the example of those who enjoy another drink in the garden.

Opera house nestling in the Sussex countryside surrounded by stunning gardens. It has an outstanding reputation for attracting international talent and putting on superb productions. The season runs from May to September and involves only 6 productions each year. Every performance has a long interval of 90 minutes to allow visitors to dine or picnic. There are a Number of excellent restaurants on the site. You can bring your own picnic or order one from Glyndebourne. Nearest station is Lewes and the opera house runs coaches from there to tie in with the performances.

Absolutely sublime. Tears in my eyes and shivers down my spine at the amazing voices and orchestration. The voice of the Fairy Godmother was peerless. Although a modern interpretation of Cinderella the traditional Principal Boy being played by a woman manages to marry the modern with the old. A fantastic night. I will return again.
