A little piece of heaven in the English countryside. Always feels a special privilege to be there even after 20+ years of annual visits. Highest quality opera productions that almost match the standard of the incredible gardens!
Thank you Glyndebourne for many happy memories.

One of the world's very finest opera festivals. The artistic standards are world-class and the environment, especially the gardens, are just dreamy. It's inevitably expensive, as it's privately owned without any state subsidy at all, but it's an utterly delightful place to spend an afternoon and evening. In particular they have a history of doing Mozart opera as well or better than anywhere in the world.

Glyndebourne Opera festival is an outstanding wonderful experience, so British. We were blessed with a warm summer day and I can not praise the whole event enough. The support staff are fabulous, helping us to relocate our picnic chairs, table, food to the Glyndebourne gardens. The opera Rusalka was superb.

1st time in attendance, and was not disappointed; indeed cannot wait for next year.

Maddam Butterfly, was performed excellently, and with great passion.

We all have our own view, critics do not have the "morale high ground", in what is good, bad, or acceptable.

..it was Well done!

If you get the chance, go and see it for yourself, and make your own mind up!

Lovely venue, an iconic location for a picnic with opera. Great singers and orchestra, and comfortable seats. If you come by train you are met by couches which will take you back at the end of performance. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

One of the most important opera festivals in the world: in-depth opera theater, distributions featuring young singers and, most British touch, picnic on the garden lawns in a tuxedo and evening dress during intermission.

One of the most wonderful places I've been in my life. At a scant hour by train from London. In summer a world-renowned opera festival is organized with large productions, orchestras and singers of recognized prestige. It is very amazing that in the middle of nowhere in a small town and annex to a mansion of those English that one can see on television, has built an opera theater as beautiful and functional as the one in Glyndebourne. A wonderful acoustic and comfortable as few. It is a delight to have a picnic during the breaks of the performances. The dresscode is strict: tuck for them and short suit for them. It really is an experience to live it at least once in a lifetime.

Thank you for trying to make us feel normal by enjoying beautiful music, venue and performances.
Sad to see so many empty seats ( due to the social distancing). We hope you'll survive financially somehow.

If you love opera (or even if you don't) in beautiful surroundings then this is probably THE place to visit. Yes it's not cheap but if you go just once in your life for the experience you won't regret it.

About Glyndebourne

Glyndebourne: A World-Class Opera House in East Sussex

Glyndebourne is a world-renowned opera house located in the heart of East Sussex, just an hour's drive from London. Since its inception in 1934, Glyndebourne has been synonymous with excellence and innovation in the world of opera.

The annual Glyndebourne Festival is one of the most prestigious events on the cultural calendar, attracting visitors from all over the world. The festival runs from May to August each year and features a diverse range of operas, from classic works by Mozart and Verdi to contemporary pieces by living composers.

But Glyndebourne is much more than just a festival venue. It is also home to an internationally acclaimed opera company that produces work throughout the year. The company's repertoire includes both traditional operas and new commissions, ensuring that there is always something fresh and exciting for audiences to enjoy.

One of the things that sets Glyndebourne apart from other opera houses is its commitment to nurturing young talent. The company runs an extensive education program that provides opportunities for aspiring singers, conductors, directors, and designers to develop their skills under expert guidance.

In addition to its artistic endeavors, Glyndebourne also boasts stunning grounds that are open to visitors throughout the year. The gardens were designed by renowned landscape architect Capability Brown and feature beautiful lawns, lakeside walks, and a walled garden bursting with colorful flowers.

Visitors can also explore Glyndebourne's historic house which dates back to 1618. The house has been lovingly restored over many years and now houses an impressive collection of art and antiques.

Whether you're a seasoned opera-goer or simply looking for a unique cultural experience during your visit to England, Glyndebourne offers something truly special. With its world-class productions set against a backdrop of stunning natural beauty, it's no wonder that this iconic institution continues to captivate audiences after almost 90 years.

In conclusion,Glyndebourne Opera House stands out as one of England’s most iconic institutions due not only because it hosts some of the best operatic performances but also because it nurtures young talents through its education programs while preserving history through restoration efforts on their historic house which dates back centuries ago.Their commitment towards excellence makes them stand out among other competitors making them one-of-a-kind destination for tourists visiting England who want nothing but quality entertainment coupled with breathtaking scenery .
