I was coned by Karl Sanford, then CTO of Genencor International. This was 2003 time frame. He invited me to talk to him at his Palo Alto office. He asked me for a presentation of my start-up company in a biotech tool area. He did not sign NDA and made sure I covered bunch of topics. I found out from other employees at his company that day of the presentation that he already invested in an Australian company offering very similar technology and used us to negotiate with them and played around with us. Man of his stature should not play with people who are down on their luck and working hard to raise funds but have good ideas. He instead should have shown great morals though it was not illegal. There is a difference between the two which he should know as a leader of a company.
