Recently changed owners and entire staff. New owners have made choices to dilute the overall experience. Consistency and quality seemed to have decreased a bit - for example the crispy, tasty spring rolls were replaced with Chinese-style egg rolls with mushy, frozen filling. I swear they reduced the number of shrimp and overall size of the tempura udon, but I don't have a previous example. Americanized and predictable "Chinese" dishes were added to the mostly-Japanese menu. Large TVs were added above the sushi bar that play ads or even TV shows. Even the website is now amusingly poorly translated.

I would have preferred them to move in the other direction, to a more "really good Japanese" restaurant instead of a "whatever, Asian" restaurant. Still, OK service and food quality.

I went on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised to see that they weren't jam packed which should have been the first indicator. As we sat down, we waited over 15 minutes to be greeted and to take our drink orders, the waitress then proceeded to take another 15 to actually deliver said drinks. So not off to a stellar start. The food was nothing special, and skimpy on the actual sushi part of it. If you're ok with lackadaisical service and less than decent sushi then this place is for you. There's far too many great sushi options in Atlanta to waste your time with this spot; which given its prime location across from Ponce City Market, really should step it up.

Gekko is conveniently located and offered customer parking which was nice. I unfortunately found the service lacking. Upon walking in we were told to sit anywhere you'd like, only to then be told to move elsewhere, no big deal. However, the restaurant was empty so I didn't understand the logic. The role that i ordered did not contain the ingredients listed in the menu. When I inquired, they brought some out on the side. Was I supposed to deconstruct my role and add the missing ingredients? I was confused. An offer to remake the role was never extended. Not the best experience and it is one that does not warrant a return visit.

I only came here because I had a Groupon for it. $15 for $30 worth of food, which didn't cover anything. This place is very pricey.

Service was pretty bad. It took a long, long time to get our server to take our order.

The food I ordered was very delicious, but I don't think it was worth the $$. Tried the takoyaki here because I've always wanted to try it since it's a popular snack in Japan. It came out more burnt than expected. I ordered the blackberry mojito ($9) twice because it was so yummy.

I parked across the street in the Ponce City Market public parking. Had to pay for an hour, and you can do that through an app on your phone. The thing is, since it took so long to order, get our food, and then pay for our meal, we had to buy extra time so we wouldn't get a ticket.
By the time we did order our food, there were maybe 2 other tables. I'm not sure if they are short of staff, but I don't see why it took them so long.

TL;DR there are much better sushi joints that are half the price. I'm assuming it's so expensive here because of location. I won't be coming back here.

Considering you're in Atlanta which is not exactly a harbor town, the sushi is very good.
Considering how fresh the seafood is, which is key (once again, not a harbor town), the price is great.
The plates are not redundant. Some places in Atlanta bombard you with radish for every dish you order a lack of creativity.

For those who are complaining about the price; they must be gambling their health on publix sushi or something of similar quality.

My friends & I visited this place and the service started out okay. Our server was new and we all understood that. We ordered our food, ate, paid & left a tip and started walking towards the door. The manager came running after us inquiring on why we didn't leave a larger tip. I've never been run down about any tip I've left at a restaurant before. That is VERY unprofessional and I hope they never do that to another customer.

By far some of the best sushi. Ever. I ordered the Tiger rolls and the Drunken Tiger rolls, and I want to go back for the same rolls again! Their crab rangoons with the chili sauce is out of this world. Honestly, I'd go just for the rangoons. The atmosphere is really great as well. It doesn't look to be very big on the outside but once you're inside it is very spacious. I love it!

Having recently gone to Japan and being an avid eater on Buford Highway, this place does not compare. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen which was lackluster in flavor. The egg was hardboiled rather than the traditionally marinated softboiled egg. It claimed to have seaweed, but none existed in my Ramen. I did get some fried tofu thing for an appetizer which was great, but too expensive for what was delivered. It was about $7 for about 5 pieces of fried tofu the size of your thumb fingernail. The table next to me had some tasty looking sushi, and it looked pretty good. So did my Ramen though... The atmosphere of the place was nice. It was kind of industrial/modern with a nice sushi bar in the center and some big flat screen TV's. I would go again if my friends wanted to go, but if I were to choose the restaurant, I'd probably not select it.

Pretty good location and they are open late. The service is consistent although I wouldn't say the food is spectacular. Overall, not a bad place to go on a night where everything else is closed. Although I like the decor they put up

Food was quality at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere was modern and casual, making for a good dinner date night. Service was a little slow due to a low number of servers working, but our waitress was still present and helped when needed.

We went there on Wednesday night and as another comment said we were greeted with an attitude! The restaurant was pretty empty. We ordered entrees and they come with Miso Soup and Salad; we had the salads and then entrees and couple of minutes later we got the soups (which I asked to replace it with a salad because it was too late for a soup for me)! We thought the food was so good only to get home and few hours later to have food poising!
Not going back!

I'll try again because I've only been once and it could have been an off day. But I sat at the sushi bar and was brought a menu and a water. No one came back. Eventually the sushi chef asked me if I wanted to go ahead and get something. I ordered some nigiri and a roll. I wanted soup and some sake, but figured he wouldn't be the person I would order with so I just drank my water.

That being said, the sushi was really, really good. Extremely good. 5 stars for the food.

Maybe I just didn't know what I was doing? I'll go again, but I'll sit at a table to make sure I get service.

This was my second trip here and both times, I really enjoyed the sushi. We came here on Sunday evening with my Scoutmob deal. The parking was a little weird. We parked in the entry area to the condos. There were signs on the side for restaurant parking. We lucked out because it wasn't busy but I'm not sure where people park when those few spots are full. Everything else says reserved.

We sat and ordered the Krab Rangoon. I didn't like it too much. It wasn't as cream cheesy as I usually like. To me it was almost like coleslaw in the middle but everyone else at the table loved it to the point that they ordered more so what do I know??

As far as the rolls, we ordered a crunchy, Gekko, Ultimate Krab, shrimp tempura and alibaba. We all shared it at the table. There were 3 of us and we were full by the time we finished. My favorites were the Gekko and the Alibaba but they were all really good. I will definitely be back in the near future because this place has not let me down.

The food is disgusting and the service is horrible! Don't waste your money. I am upset with the lack of customer service. The waitress was very rude and it took entirely too long for our food to come out and we were the only 4 people in the restaurant.

Gekko is a long time favorite and a regular haunt. To date, Gekko is the best moderately priced sushi we've found in Atlanta - and we've tried a lot of sushi places. There are certainly fancier places in Atlanta with arguably better sushi for a lot more money, but for the price, Gekko is excellent. Fish is always fresh and delicious. The specialty rolls are creative and and thoughtful, even if far too many of them involve cream cheese - which is kind of hideous. Fortunately they are more than happy to leave off the cheese if you ask and the result is generally superb. The ambiance is a little warehouse-y but with some cheerful Japanese accents to brighten things up and the service is almost always excellent.

Let me start by saying that I'm not exactly the best reviewer of sushi and have only recently started eating it regularly.

The location was a bit awkward to get to because parking isn't very clear. Make sure to follow all signs about parking. Fortunately it was the middle of the day so I found a place out front.

The atmosphere was a great mix of warm and modern. There is a large sushi bar you can sit at but I'm weird about having all the food right in front of me while eating.

As for the sushi I had a shrimp tempura role and a spicy yellowtail (I forget the name). The shrimp tempura seemed to be a bit soft and wasn't really that great. The spicy yellowtail on the other hand was excellent.

I would definitely come back. The staff was incredibly friendly and efficient.

This place is the worst - I called in to order some veggie rolls because I didn't see anything on the menu. They charged me TWELVE dollars per roll ... for veggies?!?! I didn't realize this until my husband went to pick up the order. Not to mention, they told me 20 minutes and 45 minutes later ... order still not ready. Done! Not giving this place my business again!

Like the review before mine, sat at the bar with water, never saw another person again. Two more people sat at the bar and they were both helped and ordered food. We got up and left. Friday night, not many tables and a completely open bar. Pass it up. We live Across the street and will not be back.
