Expensive but most specialists are. After a HORRIBLE experience with Red Bank which my vet recommended, I went here out of desperation, having my dog diagnosed with a severe heart Murmur. I had given up hope and thought I would have to put my dog down, but Cardiologist Dr. Goodwin gave me hope! He took an echo gram, took the time out to explain the condition fully, and not only prescribed medications but explained what all three would do for my dog. He has a great side manner. The vets here all seem to have compassion for their clients, unlike Red Bank, whose snobby receptionist couldn't care less about getting me in to see a cardiologist.

I brought my 15 year old cat to Dr. Skavelli for Radioactive Iodine Therapy and had absolutely AMAZING results.
The staff was exceptional and phoned me every night with an update regarding her condition. The patience, caring and genuine concern for my beloved fur-daughter exceeded my expectations.
We never thought there was any way we d get our cheerful, healthy cat back to normal after serious thyroid issues but thanks to Garden State Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Skavelli, Mimi Claire is back to her old, wonderful self.

My dog recently was put down due to cancer but I want to say how great everything was handled here. From when we first came in for a consultation to when we walked out at the end. Everything from the billing, explanation in what was going on, the procedure, and for understanding how were feeling. I wish this place was closer for all the past times i've needed a vet and for future purposes.

The Md s are very good, clean facility. If you have pet insurance it is important, to get pre approval for procedures w an estimate, to avoid a high amount of out of pocket money.
As expected, there is an er fee without an appt, however, if there is a medical need then this place is a very good resource.

if I could rate below 1 star, I would. my experien...

if I could rate below 1 star, I would. my experience is still very fresh and very painful. I brought my 12 year old kitty here 2 days ago at 3am because I was told they were the best emergency vet. his breathing was very labored and he was making strange sounds. he already suffered from diabetes along with other medical issues so I decided not to risk waiting until my usual vet opened to have this looked at. upon arrival, someone came out and spoke with me and we were put into an exam room within minutes so I thought all would be okay. it was far from. we sat in that room for 30 minutes when someone came in and said that the doctor would be in shortly, that there was another pet in critical condition, my mother started to say how do we know if our boy is critical if no one has looked at him, the door was slammed on us. after over an hour of sitting in this room with no one coming in, my baby started to breathe harder. my mother ran into the hallway and said someone needed to come now, dr finally came in. I explained the issue, she listened to his chest, took his pulse and temperature and says it could be his heart or it could be a tumor. tells me I need xrays and bloodwork done along with oxygen and other items totaling upwards of $1300 that I just did not have. went on and on to tell me well I cant just let you leave and not do anything for him, essentially holding him hostage until I gave in. my baby has been poked and prodded for years due to his illnesses and I was just not willing to put him through anymore. she kept insisting i had to do something, making me feel like i was the worst mom on earth because i did not have the money to do what she insisted on so i very reluctantly allowed her to give him a shot lasix which i knew damn well would do nothing bc I knew it wasn't his heart. at that point I had had enough, I went to pay and the receptionist was probably the most miserable and rude human being I have ever encountered. I paid my $216 for them to essentially nothing for us aside from insinuating that I was a horrible person. I called my vet as soon as they opened and took him in and was told that it had nothing to do with either his heart or a tumor, his diabetes was taking its toll on his tiny little body and he was just shutting down. there was nothing that could be medically done for him. after keeping my baby boy going for years and catching things that his previous vet overlooked, I trusted every word that came out of her mouth. I know my baby and I knew he was giving up so I let him go to see his litter mommy and brothers in heaven in the hands of a real veterinarian who truly cares for animals, not for money. in a time when I needed compassion and honesty, all I received from garden state veterinarians was greed, deception and guilt for not being able to afford something that wouldn't have helped my angel in the long run, it would've only cost he and I both more pain.

Can't say enough great things about this facility and the staff. They know how to gauge a true emergency and act with the urgency needed. They can be busy from time to time so waiting for updates may take longer than one would want but it's to no fault of the staff, theyre clearly working hard to take care of these animals. They're love for animals resonates throughout every conversation and you can tell they have a personal investment in ensuring the best care for every pet. If anything happens to your pet I'd recommend coming here and you can rest assured that they'll recieve top notch care and respect. 6 stars. Thank you!

This place is complete bullshit....oh they'll help you alright but only if you have 10k avail to drop at their feet the second you walk in... oh and you can apply for a loan payment plan that you will not be approved for and that point they play on your emotions and make u feel guilty for not having the money to help a innocent animal that doesnt deserve the pain hes in. They dont give u anytime to come up with the money. However they tell u if sign over your rights and abandon the animal they will fix him for free and give him to an adoption agency for someone else to take care of...and not only do they take your animal but they also tell u you're not allowed to call and check how they are doing...this is thee worse place in the world..these vets have no hearts and I hope one day someone treats them and their loved ones with the same lack of respect & compassion

I called there on Saturday after my dog ate a pound of butter. I was put through to a Dr within 3 minutes and she was able to let me know what to do. They didn't ask if my dog was a patient there, which he isn't, my vet referred me to call them after hrs. They were more worried about my dog then have me come in just to be seen for $$ like Northstar. The Dr said he doesn't have to come in unless it gets worse. When I do need emergency help, I will come here. Northstar won't even talk to me on the phone and I've been there many times.

They took my dog in multiple times when I had emergencies. Treated him like one of their own. Office is super clean and very friendly staff. When his condition worsened they treated him (and me) with much respect. Today he was sent to heaven. I am so glad they saw to my needs in a loving manner. Thank you.

I have had good experiences in the past with the hospital. MY most recent emergency was horrible. My dog had been in out of the hospital for a year with heart failure.( another vet ) I arrived on a Friday frantic as he was breathing very heavy . He was taken back immediately and put in oxygen . Discussed treatment plans and was told he should be okay . I was Called Friday night with bad news as the scans were showing worse progression. I was a mess , I was called on Saturday by the same doctor telling things were turning around and he would be coming home on Sunday and got a call from financial of the adjusted price . Happy Sunday morning, I was Called by a different doctor that told me my dog has gotten worse and he was trying to see whet he can do. I told him I felt I was being selfish at this point as my dog was suffering being in and out of the hospital. He disagreed with that and said he would like to help him get through it . I explained I didn t think it was a good idea to visit and my dog is really attached and will think he is coming home. He said oh everyone says that it s gone in 2 min and he likes you more than me . I waited an hour and half that night to only see my dog in an oxygen tank thinking I was coming to rescue Him. I will never forget looking back and him not understanding why I was not taking Him. I waited for the dr and the new quote he assured me they were trying everything . I left feeling numb that my dog was going to spend his final days sitting in an oxygen box. I spoke to the on call dr at night Dr who was so sincere and understood how much I loved my dog and felt He understood my concern about the different stories.the dog was stable condition. Early the next morning I got the call that there was nothing else they can do. I rushed over to be with my dog only to be greeted by a COLD reception that made it seem like she was placing an order about the cremation. I was also told he couldn t come out of oxygen. I demanded I see him out of it. I was able to see my dog and hold him for the last time. I asked the doctor. His heart seemed fine beating. He said it was his kidneys now, the heart was okay . Looking back I almost didn t get my last moments with my best friend. as I proceeded to the receptionist to pay a 4K bill for them to make the last days of the dogs life hell i felt robbed , cheated , and wished I never took him here. . I will be picking up my dog ashes to bring him home and never set foot in the place again as I mourn the loss of my dog who loved with all my heart

I have only had good experiences at Garden State Vet Hosp. The only thing is the fees are very expensive and it s very hard for people to even own an animal today. It is also very sad when you can t afford to have the family pet cared for. I guess that is why many animals stay in the shelters and some people have to give up the family pet because of money. I have a colony of cats I try to care for plus my own family pets and it is very costly. It s too bad the vet s can t just get together and have a free check up day for animals. Try to give back to the community. Remember you get what you give .. )

I need allergy testing for my cat. Called to ask what the price would be and they could not give me a price over the phone. I would have to make an appointment for $200 to get the price! I have called several vets and EVERY SINGLE ONE gave me a price over the phone. Clearly this vet cares more about money than helping animals.

Dr. Scavelli and his entire team from the front office to all the doctors are truly the BEST. The knowledge compassion and professionalism is felt from the moment you enter the building. Our boy has had two total knee replacements that were done to perfection and then years later went through 20 rounds of chemo with GSVS oncology department. We know if it weren't for their amazing talent and dedication to their work our boy would never have survived. We are and FOREVER will be grateful. THANK YOU.

My pit mix Tugg has been here for two knee surgeries and a spleen removal surgery due to a cancer diagnosis. He had his chemo treatments here as well. I want to highly recommend Dr. Scavelli who successfully preformed all his surgeries. I also highly recommend Dr. Glasser who has been working with us for his cancer treatments. They both have been very knowledgeable and helpful. This recent weekend we ran into a rough patch due to his cancer and went in as an emergency and saw Dr. Dziedzic she was an absolute angel to us. So very helpful and caring. She kept in touch with us all weekend after we brought him home and was available for all questions whenever we had them. He is doing well again and we are so grateful for the time and effort she put into him. As I m sure anyone with a sick fur baby knows the kindness and compassion mixed with knowledge and experience is so greatly needed and so very much appreciated. Keep up the great work!

We were referred to GSVS for double TTA surgery for our 5.5 year old double doodle, Bailey. We went directly to Dr. Scavelli for the surgery and we could not be happier. Dr. Scavelli discussed all options for us at all different costs, so we were able to make the best decision for our family. The cost of the surgery was high, but in line with other specialists in the area for the same thing. We did the surgery in 2 steps - the worse leg first in Feb 2014 and the second 10 weeks later in May 2014. Bailey is a trooper and did so well healing up. He is active and happy again! Dr. Scavelli and GSVS gave us our "pup" back! Thank you!

In regards to diagnosing your pet when your regula...

In regards to diagnosing your pet when your regular vet can't, this is the place to go. In regards to getting sympathy, or getting the same vet on the phone, good luck. Our vet sent our dog there when he had a nose bleed and a seizure. A young girl, who I guess was a vet, took us into a room and coldly explained to us that it was possible he had a tumor & that it had already probably spread. She suggested we do a CT scan & put a scope up his nose. She was such a cold person and even more cold when I asked if it was necessary to to do both. She gave us an estimate for $4,000. As we left our dog there for the tests, we were told that 75% was due that day. "That will be $3,000 please." As if we just have that in our back pocket. So we agreed to make monthly payments. A Dr Dimarco told us she was going to do a biopsy because whatever was up there had spread (as shown in the CT). Another young guy told us the outcome didn't look good as we picked up our dog (and were told the bill ended up only coming to $3,000). Did I mention he had a mohawk? Not very comforting to know these young coldhearted people are 'caring' for your baby. We got a call from Dr. Dimarco telling us the biopsy came back as negative, but they still felt it was cancer & wanted to get another one. So, we took him back for another. They told us they weren't going to charge us right away because they needed to confirm with the 'owner' (whoever that is) what they should charge, since they missed it the first time. We came back to get him after the 2nd biopsy and guess what, it came to exactly antoher $1,000 to total the $4,000. Unfortunately, this time he was correctly diagnosed with nasal cancer. I was told we could do a radiation plan (for yet another $4,000) however it wouldn't prolong his life. Why would I want to put him through that?? A few days later he was having trouble breathing. They tell you to call any time if you have any questions or an emergency. I never got Dimarco on the phone that day-in fact I've never heard from her again. I spoke with 3 different doctors that day, telling me 3 different things. We were luckily able to get him into our local vet later that day.

So, basically, if your local vet cannot diagnose your pet, this is the place to take him or her. Just keep in mind there don't seem to be any set prices, they give estimates & don't get it right the first time. Once your pet is diagnosed, if you don't want to go with their expensive treatment plan, you will never hear from your doctor again.

Worst place ever. It's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. I took my dog to this place , a guy that works there asked me few questions about my dog, then he checked my dog's eyes and teeth told me my dog was seriously dehydrated. He asked permission to give IV fluid and I said yes. He took my dog away. They told us to stay in a room, a lady(vet) came in the room and said my dog looks bad, his liver looks bad(they didn't do any test on him), I have to keep my dog at the place for 12 to 24 hours, then they going to do blood work on him, then get an another vet to check his internal organs, then ultrasound, biopsy. I asked her how much is it all together. She said $3000.00. Then she said it's not guranteed he is going to survive. I told her i want to take my dog home. she said put my dog to sleep right then and there. My dog was still walking , and active. I told her no. She brought my dog back and said THEY DID NOT GIVE HIM IV FLUIED. THEY LIED. THEY CHARGED ME ALMOST $570 'S. They knew they weren't going to make $3000's out of me, so told me to put my dog to sleep so they can make money. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. THEY ARE LIARS, IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY. YOU WILL COME BACK WITH A BROKEN HEART. THEY DON'T CARE. SCAMMERS!!.

My poor pupper Chunkie was walking with. Severe limp on his rear right leg.
I was devastated and scared what could be wrong. We took chunkie to Dr Scavelli at the Garden State veterinary specialist.
After exam and xrays and wonderful care from his staff, we got his diagnosis and I feared the worst. Dr Scavelli, told us before anything drastic let's try meds. A week later and chunkie is walking like his old self with the meds given .
I understand Vets can be pricey, but you will never come close to affordable, as you will here with their excellent care. Nicely decorated and clean waiting room, very nice front desk staff.
Thank you Dr. Scavelli, and all the wonderful compassionate staff.
Sincerely Chunkie Roman's Mom

Our wonderful cat Harvey was a patient at GSVS for the past 3 years (until his recent passing from cancer), and he received remarkable care from everyone on their team. We worked with Dr. Pintar in internal medicine and Dr. Cohen in oncology - both are amazing specialists in their respective fields and helped us through a very challenging journey. We can't thank them enough for their patience, kindness, and knowledge. We've also worked with various members of the emergency and surgical teams, who have likewise been wonderful. We are forever grateful to GSVS.

Must read could save your DOG or Pets Life . My do...

Must read could save your DOG or Pets Life . My dog had a growth and he was licking it which made it bleed and kept licking it and wouldn t stop bleeding it was a Sunday so I decided to take him to the clinic.

When we arrived we were checked in Vador is a pitbull so they entered him very quickly into a room. when the doctor arrives . I explained to the vet what was going on. She did a complete examination of the dog and gave us an estimate for surgery. She told us it might be cancer and it was a good thing to have taken out.

The estimate was for $3500. I thought they were crazy because it was a small skin growth on the skin. They even recommended if it was cancer that it would additional. She explains there s not much that she can do tonight besides take them in the back clean the cut up put a collar so he can t get to it and then we would have to decide if we want to book the surgery.
At that time we were asked to wait in the waiting room and they had taken the dog to the back to clean him up and to put the cone collar on him as I was told. When they came back out she had stated that she had given him a shot for nausea I explained that I didn t ask for any shot for nausea and the shot for nausea was over $150. When we omitted I stated that the dog threw up one time in 72 hours from licking the blood all the time this dog was not nauseous. I also explained if you take a dog and tell the owner of the dog that you re going to clean him up and fit him for a cone collar that s all that should have been done. How dare them take the dog tell you that they are going to clean up the cut and put a cone on him and then give him a shot for nausea which the dog wasn t even nauseous.

I have come to find out it s the way they pad the bill, I looked up the shot and you could buy a 50 mL bottle of this which they only administered up to 3 mL.. The 50 mL bottle cost $50 they charge me $150 for 3 mL out of the 50ml bottle.
How dare them !! Take and administer drugs without the owners authorization.

Now here the kicker of the whole ordeal. I went to Barnegat Animal clinic that Monday. The vet looked at it said it was a very easy surgery and gave me an estimate for $585.00 to $ 625.00 a low to high scenario. What that is a fraction of the cost of Garden state animal specialists.

I had the surgery that Wednesday it was $600.00 total with the biopsy. Garden State animal hospital wanted to charge me $ 500 just for the biopsy. The biopsy came back as cancerous they cut enough of the tissue back when they cut out the growth that they went back to healthy tissue and they cut out all the cancer he goes back for a blood test but the ordeal is over and it was a fraction of the cost.

So please don t take the words of Garden state animal specialists HIGH PRICED make sure you go to your regular vet and go see a couple of vets before you make any decisions on your animal. Don t let these people force you to put this animal down with there prices. Prices are very very HIGH there are alternatives !!!! Bottom line Garden State Animal Hospital $3500.00, Barnegat Animal clinic 600.00.

How is that even possible !!! Beware Beware !!!! I have both estimates I will post !!

Called and booked an appointment for my cat to see the cardiologist for a recheck exam on his heart. I was told the appointment would cost $118. Well $625 we have just left and will be looking for a new cardiologist. A $500 increase is absurd. The explanation I was given is because they did an Echo cardiogram but that was why I was coming in - to get his heart checked - so you would think they would have factored in the cost of that as well. Don t bother. This place is a dishonest ripoff

I was and continue to be extremely disappointed wi...

I was and continue to be extremely disappointed with the care from the veterinarians when we came in to have acl surgery for my dog. As we walked in at 8:45am for our 9:00am appointment on a Friday, we were not seen until 9:51am. I will say the Vet Techs were extremely welcoming and warm as to why I am giving two stars.

When we were finally called into the room, the veternarian stated she would go over the "care" list. She continued to refer our male dog as a "she". When the vet tech brought Ziggy past our room, the veterinarian looked puzzle as it did not seem she knew that was our dog that she was suppose to be reporting about. They brought in our dog he was crying so much. Completely typical for a dog in pain and out of his norm, but there was blood inside of his cone; a lot. Instead of the veterinarian explaining each thing, I had to ask every questions which made me extremely upset. "Why is there blood all over his cone? Why is there blood on his face? Why are there two deep cuts on the center of his head? Why are both of his eyes deep red? Did he pop blood vessels?".. etc.

When I asked about the cuts on his face she said he scratched himself and where the one was, it was physically impossible for him to scratch there. Then the doctor said he bumped his nose and it started bleeding. Our dog then made a noise that I have never heard him make and he could hardly walk especially with the cone. As tears flew down my face, I told them that he was not wearing the cone and a tech gave us a pillow (which I don't know why they didn't in the first place) but with all the blood I was so upset they gave him to us that way. The veterinarian was zero help, not friendly, zero information, etc. So I sat with him in the back and literally cried the entire way back . I would never go back and if this were to happen in a typical hospital, your family would be extremely concerned and upset.

They did the best they could for my pet. I was in a desperate mode when I came in. They were very empathetic and patient with me. When it was time to do the right desicion they were there to give both pros and cons to each solution. I ended up putting my beloved pet to sleep and they were there supporting me through the whole process. Honestly, after so many vet visits and recommendations of medication for my pet and alot of money leaving my pocket. I believe they were the only one to truly explain every step of the visit. They were there to explain the pricing and they were there when i was undescisive scared that I'll make the wrong desicion. After coming here for the first time, and going through the experience that I've had with other vets. I totally recommend this place. Honestly it will appear to be a bit pricey but they are there to help you make a right decision that will benefit you financially.

It is a General Practice office. I brought a cat with a fractured shoulder. I should have left right away when i found out that the office doesnt have an x-ray machine. The Doctor accepted us pretty fast because i mentioned at reception desk that the cat got hit by a car, so they considered our case to be an emergency. The Doctor cut cats nails, blamed me that i didnt fix the cat, checked the temperature, blamed me that i didnt do vaccination, prescribed antibiotics from fever and never got to the main point until i reminded him that my cat is limping terribly! Everything was so fast, scarry looking, i didnt notice gentle care. I feel rip off even though i paid 84 dollars for an exam w/antibiotics because the problem was not solved at all. The Hospital sold me the services the cat didnt need. If you dont have an x-ray machine and cant provide orthopedic help, say so, say honestly i cant help. And if you cant provide a service, dont charge at least. Sales people!.. they dont hear client's needs.

Took my golden in to see Dr. Keegan (cardiologist) recommended by my vet for testing for a possible murmur. the facility and staff are amazing. Dr. Keegan and his staff were so professional and caring. I was expecting to pay $ 1500.00 for an echocardiogram but, instead of gouging me for an unnecessary test, Dr.Keegan , after his thorough exam decided the echocardiogram was not necessary based on his findings and, I was charged a reasonable fee for specialty services. It is obvious that they care more about your furry friend then the money. I recommend these veteranarians to anyone looking for caring, compassionate, professional and honest care.

This place just killed my family dog. We went for help and was sent home with a large bill and kidney failure with a solution of a medication adjustment. They did not pay attention to anything that was being said by our family about our dog and tried to judge our little chubby puppy based on what he looks like. These people didn t even know that he could walk without an issue. These people are an embarrassment to any medical profession. No job was done by any standard, our dog withered in pain for days after our initial visit for help, and after multiple phone calls and misjudgment from these terrible doctors and employees our dogs next trip to this hospital was the last place he would ever see. Thanks for nothing

They would turn you away even if you're beloved pet is dying unless you prove you have money and I mean that literally. They are emergency vets so they have you at the get go. The receptionists are rude and abrupt. You have to call them ten times to speak to the doctor. Over the years I have been FORCED to go to them because of the 24 hr emergency and nothing has changed. They should be ashamed of themselves and I don't know how they can sleep at night. I hope you have another alternative for your pets.

My dog had a GI tract blockage and my regular vet referred me to Garden State for treatment. When we got there they took him right away and were communicative throughout the whole process. Dr. Linda was fantastic and successfully treated my dog while also keeping the cost as low as possible. She followed up again once I had my dog back home to make sure that he was still doing ok. Highly recommend.

Dr Kent & ALL THE STAFF, WE THANK YOU for going above and beyond for our Skipper. He was the light of our life and with your compassion and empathy, you and the staff knew it. We never expected that he was as sick as he was. He was playing only 2 weeks prior. The Doctor was willing to keep him to do an ultrasound and X-ray, no questions! But we had no money when we took our little kitty but they gave us the time and dignity of any rich man. This place is special. We thank you for Skipper's paw print keepsake which was so beautiful. Skipper meant everything to us and the paw print gives us peace of mind. We are so very am grateful."

Dr. Scavelli and all the staff members were amazing! They took such great care of my Chuckie. He has laryngeal paralysis and they did a tie back surgery. He came out seeming like himself and breathing so much better. This is an amazing day for us! Thank you! #ChuckietheChocolateLab

If I could give this place ZERO STARS I would! So my dog was sick vomiting, at request of our Primary vet we sent her here for observation, fluids, and further testing. FIRST*** they charge ALOT just for that alone which is a lot but if you love your pet and are desperate you do what it takes and I ASSUMED ITS QUALITY CARE. SECOND*** I call at 6am to check on her and the VET*** tells me HES FINE!! I own a female dog. Then I get a call about testing results and am told by Dr.Abed my dog has a severe issue that is serious and needs surgery, that it's a hereditary issue and further testing is needed. FINALLY*** when it is time to get my dog she claims she doesn't know if my dog definitely has this condition and when I asked what was found in the ultrasound ***SHE LAUGHED AND SAID IT WAS BORING!!!!!***I DID NOT SPEND 2000 FOR YOU TO TAKE MY DOGS CARE AS A JOKE AND SAY ONE THING ON THE PHONE NOW SOMETHING ELSE! My discharge paperwork is messed up,my primary vet doesn't agree with the findings, and the records were faxed to the wrong doctor. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET GO TO REDBANK OR ANIMERGE ANYWHERE BUT HERE STAY AWAY!!

WORST ANIMAL CLINIC EVER. Do not waste your money ...

WORST ANIMAL CLINIC EVER. Do not waste your money here. I had such a traumatic experience at this place. I took my dog here a few days ago because she needed an emergency ultrasound.I had previously gone to my dogs primary vet that morning and after doing bloodwork they referred us to this place in order to diagnose what the issue was. Let me start by saying I was here from 1:30PM-8:00PM. After admitting her to this hospital, we had to wait in the parking lot due to Covid which was understandable. While we were awaiting a response from the specialist, we had to watch dogs get euthanized in the middle of the parking lot. No privacy, no curtain, just out in the open. Needless to say, we were already so vulnerable to our situation with our dog that it was so dreadful and heartbreaking to see. This place shows no sympathy for their clients and their pets, they are just looking to make money. We ended up getting charged $1,000 for services and an extra $155 emergency fee for a 6 hour wait. They kept us in the dark for over 3 hours before they got back to us with results and they only did so because we gave them a call. If you love your pets, please do not take them here.

The care and the detailed explanation from the Doc...

The care and the detailed explanation from the Doctor and Veternarian techs were exceptional! My Dog is a very high strung dog when it comes to Vets and I was very comfortable leaving him with them. We are not certain what is wrong with him and instead of doing something invasive We are first going to take the gentler less expensive approach. This was recommended by the Doctor. Not what I expected and very satisfied with this at this time. This is a very unlikely response from a very well known Veternarian Hospital close by that has Specialist. I choose not to name. So overall I am extremely happy with this Hospital.

Our approximately 10-year-old dachshund was in excruciating pain. Cookie is a rescue and is a double dapple and is blind and deaf. She screamed every time she moved. We were originally going to try and avoid surgery and keep her confined to a crate with medication. (We previously brought her to another emergency veterinary hospital but they were very cold and uncaring and could not do any emergency tests or surgery.) Things were getting worse and she was in so much pain. I was sleeping by her crate and called our vet for an increase in pain meds. When she didn't show any improvement in an hour, we called Garden State Veterinary Specialists. Priscilla answered the phone and told me to bring her in immediately. She could hear her screaming in pain over the phone. Unlike the other emergency hospital, GSVS was prepared to do an emergency MRI AND surgery (if indicated) on a Sunday morning. We brought Cookie to GSVS at about 6am on Sunday. Everyone was so helpful and kind. We were so confused on upset. I really couldn't even think straight while giving Priscilla information but she was patient and understanding. The techs and the interns were there and waiting for us. We left her at GSVS feeling more confident than we had in days about her prognosis. In a couple of hours, Dr. Gibson (neurosurgeon) called and gave us the results of the MRI. Cookie had a bulging disc that was pinching a nerve in her neck. That was the reason for the pain and the loss of use of her front left paw. She explained the problem and gave us the option of surgery or trying to handle her recovery with crate rest and medication. After trying the latter unsuccessfully, we opted for the surgery. Dr. Gibson answered our questions in detail and did not rush us off of the phone or assume that we knew anything without explanation. Cookie was immediately brought to surgery and Dr. Gibson called about 2 hours later after it was over. She explained what she found, what she did and what we could expect. Dr. Miele called us twice a day to update us on Cookie s progress. She spent a considerable amount of time answering our questions and explaining her progress to us. Cookie s recovery was remarkable and she was ready to go home in 3 days. I guess that it helped a lot that the staff absolutely loved Cookie and as we hear it, took turns holding her (which I'm sure she loved - especially being blind and deaf - it's her only way of knowing that someone is with her). We asked if they could keep her an extra day because we both had work and didn't want to leave her alone so soon post-surgery. They were more than happy to accommodate our request for a 'medical board' and we picked her up the next day. Cookie took pictures with the staff and everyone took turns saying goodbye. We left with medications and precise instructions for delivery. They called us the next day to see how she was doing. We had to call once to ask a question about meds and they helped us immediately. We cannot express our gratitude at the level of care we received for Cookie. The staff and doctors (especially Dr. Miele and Dr. Gibson!) at GSVS were kind, caring, patient and responsive. We go back in two weeks for a follow-up appointment.

I took multiple pets to Garden State over many yea...

I took multiple pets to Garden State over many years, and was one of their best clients so I was told (based on $ spent there I'm sure). I stopped going there due to the multiple pets that were misdiagnosed and killed there. I had one dog with metal bars in her back who was put in the MRI machine and killed. They blamed me but it is not the client's responsibility to know about their machinery - they SHOULD have processes in place to protect the animals (like reading the chart first, or asking the client to fill out a questionnaire. Lucky for them I am not a litigious person and didn't sue. Oncology was responsible for the death of my cat with lymphoma. She had two bleeds from the chemotherapy and just got done with a blood transfusion when the oncologist gave her another chemo round which killed her in hours from another massive bleed. In knowing more now, it would have been procedure to stop chemo. They do not have a radiologist which I didn't know. Even though they tout themselves as "specialists" - one of the most important specialties to have is a board certified radiologist. Unfortunately I didn't know that their young recently graduated vet was reading the radiographs. Despite my cat having history of stones she told me it was kidney failure and by the time I took him to University of Penn it was too late. They said he was misdiagnosed and had multiple stones and blockage and he could have had surgery and been saved. (Penn actually sent the stones to a specialist in midwest for analysis). UPenn also told me that Garden State also misdiagnosed two other cats. Garden State had wanted to do surgery on one's bial duct but UPenn said , no, she did not need that surgery that instead the cat had triaditis and was put on meds and she'd now doing great for last two years. Luckily I got another opinion from UPenn Vet (Matthew J. Ryan) and both cats are properly treated and healthy. After the last three issues with Garden State I stopped going there and use my vet and use Red Bank in an emergency (though their overnight team are inexperienced just like Garden States overnight team) and sometimes UPenn in an emergency though 1.5 hours from me. And, go to UPenn in Philadelphia for any specialty needs. I currently have a cat going to neurology and one to dermatology and surgery. Red Bank also has an excellent opthamologist that I have always gone to over Garden State eye doctor. Dr. Ringo is great. I've learned to trust my judgement and to get second opinions. Everyone makes mistakes, but when you have a consistent number of failings - you need to start looking elsewhere. To everyone reading - if your pet is not doing well at Garden State - take them to UPenn Veterinary (Matthew J Ryan)
and tell them to ignore anything done or said at Garden State and to start from scratch. People should contact the Veterinary Medical Board though when they feel they have a legitimate claim against any vet and they have all their paperwork. As anyone reading from Garden State will know who I am, I am signing my name. D. Suzette Grimm

When I was referred to GSVS, I didn't know whether...

When I was referred to GSVS, I didn't know whether I was going to a Vet, or buying a new car. As soon as you walk in the door, they size you like a car salesman to get as much money as they can out of you. My cat was sent to GSVS because he was having a little trouble breathing, and had a tooth root abscess. The vet that examined him wanted to do a CT Scan before pulling the tooth. Cost:$3000. I refused and just wanted the tooth pulled. They told me they couldn't do it that day, and I should leave him overnight and they'd do it the following day. When I told them I'd take him home and bring him back, they found the time to do it that day. I was quoted a price of $800-$1,000. When it came time to sign the consent forms, the price jumped to $1,000-$1,200. What am I supposed to do now? I left the cat and was supposed to pick him up a couple hours later. About an hour later, I get a call from the Vet stating she thinks my cat has a cancerous tumor in his nose. I pick the cat up and they tell me to call in a few days to get the biopsy results. A couple days later, I call them for the results. The tell me they have them, and a Vet will call me back. I wait hours, and nobody calls. I call again, and again I'm told a Vet will call me back. Like before nobody calls me back. Finally around 8PM, I call and refuse to hang up until a Vet gets on the phones and reads my the results. A Vet gets on the phone and without emotion tells me my cat had high grade lymphoma, the prognosis is poor, and to call back tomorrow to make an appointment to speak with an Oncologist for treatment. After getting over the shock and sadness of the diagnosis, I had GSVS send over my cat's medical records to my local animal hospital for a 2nd opinion. My Vet and I both agreed that due to the high grade of the cancer, not to treat it with radiation and chemo since it would not cure him anyway, and I do not want my cat to suffer. I'm currently treating him at home with prednisolone, hoping to keep him alive as long as I can while maintaining quality of life. When I didn't call back GSVS to make an appointment to see their Oncologist, they called me trying to talk me into sending him for tests $3k+, and treating him with chemo and radiation. Another several thousand dollars. When I asked if it would cure him, at last they were honest and told me "no". Just extend his life. I hope to never need another "specialist" and have to go to GSVS. My experience wasn't as bad as others, but they do try to get every dollar they can out of you.

This place 3 days before Christmas lied and used my feelings for our cat to steal money from me. My 6 month old kitten ate pine needles off a fake Christmas tree and became ill. It was Sunday morning and this vet was the only place open. When we arrived they said her temp was 105.1 and that its high and she should stay overnight for monitoring and testing. The vet said the cost would be between 1200-2500, i told them i cant afford ANYTHING over 1500 so please call me before doing ANY tests. The next morning i was told her temp has improved but they wanted to do more tests, they said the bill was sitting at 1000 but they recommended i do the ultrasound and various other tests . i said please just do which would bring the cost to 1500 OR LOWER. The vet agreed and picked the most important test to do and said the bill will be under 1500, she called me after the exam and said the bill is now $2000 and they recommended MORE TESTS AND ANOTHER NIGHT OF MONITORING BECAUSE THE CAT IS STILL NOT RIGHT! I said absolutely not i will not pay more than 1500 and im picking up my cat now. I was working so my girlfriend went and they wouldn't give us our cat until she sign an agreement that she will pay the extra 400 dollars. My scared girlfriend who was just worried about our cat signed it. She brought the cat home and THE CAT WAS FINE, 100% FINE. Now we are fighting collection because i REFUSE to pay for this. The cat was fine, they want $2000 for an ultrasound, pain killers and fluids. PLEASE NEVER TAKE YOUR PET THERE THEY ARE ALL YOUNG JUST OUT OF SCHOOL VETS PLAYING SPECIALISTS ON YOUR LOVED ONE They said that the vets dont know how much the tests costs only billing people do and then the vet lied saying she never told me she said the bill was at $1000, when that was literally during the first phone call she made the morning after we dropped the cat off. These people are evil!

When my puppy fractured her femur they helped me, but the doctors weren't consistent. When we came back for her final cast to be removed, she was handed back to us and that was pretty much it, we just paid and left which felt weird, I felt there should have been more info given or something. Other than that visit the staff was very kind and helped throughout our crazy journey
