The DON at the Ottawa location is extremely rude and unprofessional. She talks down to you when she speaks, and she is ALWAYS eating or chewing with her mouth full while speaking with her. I do not know if she is in the middle of her lunch when I call, or what the deal is. I would think a little more professionalism would be required.
My mother used to reside here a short time ago. I do have to say, while some people that work at the facility are amazing, some are not. COVID-19 has caused a lot of stress on families. My family and I watched our mother decline very fast because of being quarantined. As my mother was declining, I was in close contact with the facility. I have to voice my disgust at the Director of Nursing in Ottawa. She is rude, non-empathetic, condescending, and should not be sitting in the position she is currently sitting. I had lots of concerns for my mother that went in one ear and out the other. I cannot understand hers or others thought process because my mother is now thriving at home since we moved her out. The whole situation is very sad for all the families. I would hope that Gardant reads their reviews about families concerns wherever there loved one is at, and take the proper measures to improve their quality of care and staff. Other than my complaint above, the other facility staff were absolutely amazing in my mother s care.
My grandmother was in one of their facilities it was horrible there they didn't want to give her the care she needed so I moved her out and they've still been taking the rent out of her account for the last 3 months even though she's been living somewhere else
Gardant manages Heritage Woods in Freeport, Illinois. VERY, VERY hard to get in touch with! No one calls or e-mails back. So if a problem or question arises, you are referred back to the local home. That is where the trouble is..so that is no help. They are a poor management company!!! Just an investment for them..!!

I am a retired nurse, and I witnessed the Administrator in Ottawa deliver my mother s white medication box, and put it in her locked medication box in her room. How does she have a key? I thought only the nurses and CNA s had keys? It is my understanding she is not a nurse so why is she passing out medications? Interesting!

The Heritage Woods of Manteno is severely understaffed. Many times there are only 1 or 2 cna's on a shift. In order to fill in an empty spot, an employee is taken from dietary or housekeeping to "fill" the empty spot. Administration feels that as long as there is a "body" in the empty spot it's ok. THIS IS NOT OK!!!! The residents deserve better than this!!!!!!
