One of Cairo's historic hotels, the Cairo Marriott Hotel is a large five-star hotel located in the Zamalek area of the island on the Nile River in Cairo, Egypt. This hotel was originally known as the Gezira Palace built by Khedive Ismail to receive guests of the opening ceremonies of the Suez Canal [1].

DateEdit

Historical picture of the island's Hotel Palace in 1906

The palace was built by Khedive Ismail in 1869 to be the official residence for guests of the opening ceremony of the Suez Canal, especially the guest of honor, Empress Eugenie, wife of Emperor Napoleon III. [2] The palace was designed by German architect Julius Franz and the decoration was done by architect Karl von Dieich it from decorations and accessories from Paris and Berlin at the time. This has cost three quarters of a million pounds.

In 1879, the palace was sold to the Egyptian Hotels Company for repayment of part of Khedive Ismail's debts and was transferred to the Gezira Palace Hotel. [2] After the collapse of the tourist movement in Egypt during World War I, the royal company decided to sell the palace in 1919 to one of the Lebanese princes, Prince Habib Lotfallah which turned it into a private residence [3] in 1962, the palace was nationalized and converted back to the hotel as the Vndqamr tents and then at the beginning of the seventies Marriott international took over the management of the hotel.

Renewal and expansion

At the beginning of the seventies, the palace witnessed a fundamental transformation in its history by taking over the management of Marriott International. The palace and gardens were renovated with two towers on both sides built to accommodate 1,250 luxurious rooms and suites while retaining the original palace as a reception, restaurants, meeting rooms and celebration halls. The hotel opened in 1982. The hotel consists of three buildings, the first building is the palace building, which consists of 5 floors with hotel halls, restaurants, shopping shops, main hall and reception, the second building with men Rijal Zamalek, and the third tower island between these buildings there is a swimming pool, restaurants and club. S Vtqa on six acres rise buildings and an area of the hotel towers 20 floors.

The hotel is old, but it has a special imprint that loves you in it, such as the lobby and restaurants in the garden, and I liked it more in the gym, the largest gym I saw in a hotel without the amounts available in most of the devices.

Good hotel, right at the nile. The access is a bit tricky, probably because of its location and security.

Staff was good and jolly, as with all the Marriotts & even gave us complementary upgrade to premium floor and family suit.

The location is very noisy when one steps on to the overlooking balcony but, the double glazed window and doors does the magic.

I have given its 4 stars just because of access and pickup and drop off queues.

PS: Its a late review, I was there in November 2019
