I went there nearly 4pm and was a cloudy day. Popular with the Torii that attracted many tourists to visit and take photos. I though I m late but by the time I reached it is still a lot of people!
I m not so into it, the path is packed and didn t manage finish the mountain walk because I was so scared when sunset.
The best thing I enjoyed in Fushimi is I saw shiba inu, omg!!!!! Tooooooo cute!!
Viral place with huge amounts of crowd. Beat them crowds at 6.a.m or 5 p.m. since most of the shrine open for 24/7 in Kyoto
Go early in the morning (literally sunrise) and this place is incredible and you avoid the crowds. Or wait, and accept the fact that you ll be around crowds and be patient. You can make this place a quick visit or it can be a long, hilly stroll. Torii gates are seemingly never ending. There is a good view over Kyoto if you hike all the way to the top.
Good and better get their in the very early morning otherwise you will sink in the human flood.
Great experience even at night, thanks to well lit pathways and lack of crowds.
It's not a Instagram hotspot for no reason. When it's not crowded, it's a magical place.
Beautiful shrine at the base of Mt. Inari and a great hike to the summit; there's definitely more than 1000 of these gates! There are also wild boar, monkeys and cats that roam the mountainside and may approach you during the trek up.
Very nice hike up. It's a nice adventure for young and old. Some of the gates look in bad repare, but they felt sturdy. Good areas for pictures.
Super crowded with tourists and it s almost hard to take a sec and appreciate this historical spot. If I ever come back here I would come during weekdays.
Love the tori gates. Experience the feel with kimonos. You can rent one on the spot. The cheapest about 2800 yen. But recomended get the more expensive one. You'll feel like the real local
Nice walk up to the summit with some good views. The summit itself is just a similar collection of small shrines which are similar to what you see in your way up
A bit of a hike, but very worth it. The views of the city, particularly at sunset are great, and the gates themselves are impressive in their scale and scope.
Really beautiful shrine, so peaceful. We went there quite late but thankfully it was open unlike a few other temples but still full of people. Would recommend the shrine
Red gate hike ...
Famous temple with thousand red gate as offerings...
Impressive sight and interesting little hike...
Be prepared to walk 21 thousand steps to the top! If i can do it you can too! Enjoy the views throughout because they are much better than the view at the top.
Beautiful shrine! As you get farther up the mountain it gets less busy and better to take photos under the Torii Gates. There s also a nice view of Kyoto city.
Must-go. I've heard reaching the summit is absolutely worth it. Unfortunately, my wife has asthma and we needed to turn back to avoid stressing her lungs out. It was still worth it! I highly encourage taking it slowly even though it's a relatively easy hike and stepping off the path when you see an opportunity. There's so much more of the surrounding and views to take in!
Be prepared to do step ups!! Lots and lots of stairs! Walking all the way up is as tireing as it is rewarding. The view from the top (and even 3/4 ways up) is super amazing (especially at night), and well worth the trip. The amount of Shrine Gates is unbelievable and truly a sight to behold! The way down is easier if you do the circle instead of coming back the same way, so don't worry about it also at the start of going down you do have to take the same stairs and it can get slippery if it's wet so be careful.
1 hour walk round trip, nice shrine. Nothing particularly interesting to see at the summit so mainly a bit of a crowded walk
Nice but no need to walk the entire trail...budget half an hr here
Simply beautiful. Is a most if you travel to Kioto.
You have to enjoy the crab skewer outside the shrine. So tasty! There are many souvenir shops and free sample snacks along the street.
A very beautiful place to visit. I think everyone should try and visit this place once in a month
Iconic spot in Japan. Very crowded at the base of the hill where the gates start. If you dont want people constantly passing by when you try to take good photo, go there early.
Path to the very top is amazing and definitely worth the effort, totally crowded but exceptional
This place just amazing, there is so many gate from the smallest to the largest,. You can come here by train and get off at Inari Station,.
Must go, best place I've been in Japan so far, just keep in mind there are a lot of mosquitos.
Go early to avoid the crowd. Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs.
Nice scenes but lots of crowd. Wandered off path onto the bamboo groove path, creepy with no one but great views
Sanctuary inside a busy town. Walking trails in the woods are nice.
Great place to spend a couple hours.
Don't be a lazy Western here. Climb all the steps, make all the bows, respect slower individuals, etc
Went during golden week.. heavily crowded..no point seeing with crowd...need to feel it in isolation
A must stop for visitors to Kyoto. The hike to the top is beautiful (do the full loop and see some natural beauty, a graveyard, and a bamboo forest), and the lookout view of Kyoto is the cherry on top!
If you go to Kyoto you have to visit this temple where you learn about the japanese culture...
Too many people at 8 pm on a saturday, otherwise beautifull.
Such a beautiful temple! Be ready for walking and climbing up steps
Went at night. Was way less busy and still had a great environment. Very interesting place to visit
It is as beautiful as seen on the photos. Lots of tourists on weekends so I visited during a week day and it was very quiet and nice.
There were these orangy red structures that lined the whole path up to the peak of the hill where the temple was. The scene up at the observation point was nice.
Impressive. Consider that you'll need some time if you do the whole tour.
If you are going to the top, take photos of the Tori up there, you won't have to wait long for empty space as the crowds thin out significantly.
Must see place. Go there as early as possible (6-7am)
finally i can visit fushimi inari... when i was child i always dreaming strollin` between tori which lined up in inari...
and 2017 is the year i got opportunity to travelin` in KYOTO of course I dont forget to visiting this place as i dreamed before...
FUSHIMI INARI is the beautiful place and the most memorable place i`ve ever seen... especially when I can climb thousands of stairs... i`ts worthed...
many good tourists here and a lot of friendly locals...
i wish i can visit this place again...
Spectacular with many red poles. Very peaceful walking along. I love this place.
Very nice site for taking picture. Be sure you re ready for the long and trail walk .It s very easy to find the shrine , it s just outside the Inari Station on the Nara Line of the West Japan Railway Company (JR), a five-minute ride from Kyoto Station. It is a short walk from Fushimi-Inari Station on the Main Line of the Keihan Electric Railway.
The shrine is open 24 hours with both the approach to the shrine and the Honden itself illuminated all night. There is no entrance fee on this shrine also there re some mini shop to stop buy souvenirs. On the left side of the shrine ( from the entrance ) you can find food stall and vending machine to buy drinks.
Exhausting hike all the way to the top but so worth it! Plus, really beautiful photo shoot location ;)
Fantastic. You can truly experience Japan culture and heritage in here. The view is beautiful, there are plenty of beautiful scenery and it is a great place for photograph. If you have time, you should definitely climb all the way up.
And don t forget to taste matcha parfait on the exit gate. It s delicious, and with a wonderful scenery too.
Fun time with my girlfriend. There are also other shops in the vicinity, and the area had the right amount of places to buy little miscellaneous items and restaurants or food vendors if you're hungry
Very cool shrine. Great walk through the orange arches. Soooooooo many people. We went at 4 and it was packed. Go early!! Train station is steps away.
Magnificent vermillion torii gates! The place can be a little crowded though ,so be sure to come here early to avoid the crowd!
Its a must do in kyoto, but you def. Need a guide though. It does get crowded but i did have several spot to take a pic by myself. If there, make sure to visit the bamboo forest along the trail
For temple sight seeing lovers. come early if u want to see all of it. bring mosquito lotion. and travel light...its a very huge place. food snacks and drinks are sold nearby.
A beautiful and popular shrine. With rows and rows of red gates. Will be a crowded place. Hi early to avoid the crowds. And shops outside close around 5pm
Such an awesome spot, but go early (ie. Before 8am) - it gets busy quickly.
Be known well place by movie Memoirs of a geisha.
But too crowed due to many student and China tourist.
Visiting is better in morning time.
Not too bad of a crowd mid-week. Wear comfortable shoes, have bug spray for mosquitos, and bring water. There are stations along the way for restrooms and beverages. No need to stop at the first souvenir shop at the end if it's terribly crowded - there are plenty of other shops.
A large complex with thousands of tori gates leading up to the hill top. You can spend a whole day here if you want. There r lots of cats n they re very friendly to human. Spend some time to read abt the place first n make yr wish when u come here.
Amazing vibes as you enter the inner areas, a different look at ancient Buddhist beliefs
Easy to locate from the nearby station. It can be very touristy at certain hours. Many food and souvenir choices around the shrine.
one of the most popular shrine in Kyoto for foreign and domestic tourist perhaps.
It was very magnificent and majestic. The fox statues all around the temple is a sight to behold. The shrine and its ground are already huge, and crowded of course (even in low season), but the larger part, the part that everyone awaits for lies behind the shrine. Yes, the thousands torii gates.
On the foot of the mountain, is where most of the gates are located and it makes for a very picturesque and thematic location. This is where most of the crowds would be, so it will be hard to take a photo of yourself without interruption as everyone also seeks the moment.
After that, where the fun part comes in, to hike, or not to hike? Be prepared, wear a comfortable walking/hiking shoes if you decides to hike, since it is quite the trip and the steps is as steep as they come.
My suggestion is to hike only up to the conjunction where you could get a clear sky view of Kyoto, unless you're an explorer, since there is no more panoramic view on the summit.
The weather was great for walking through the Tori gates.
Very busy, even in the supposed quiet time but absolutely essential to any trip in Kyoto
Beautiful spectacular place to visit! If you visit within a hot season, please drink lots of water and bring extra water.
Graphic place with many temples. Good place to take a walk up the hill and enjoy the nature and the transitional scene. Be prepared for a long uphill walk and keep your camera empty so you can take a lot of photos.
This was probably my favorite shrine that I went to in Japan. I would recommend this for anyone in Kyoto even if they are burnt out on seeing temples and shrines.
Absolutely wonderful, but a tough climb, More like a workout. Need to be fit and prepared for crowds
Recommendation Go up to the maintain it's totally worth. Great place.
Make sure to bring lots of waters if you want to climb to the summit
Very colorful and lively shrine that is definately worth a visit and easy to get to.
We got to see a flavor of this since most were closed due to damage from typhoon jebi.. it was still worth it. We had JR rail pass and it was convenient by train to inari station.
It is really special! I visit here after 4:30pm, less crowd and more comfortable.
Very interesting site, but too crowded and too commercial.
Beautiful shrine with a lot to see and soak in. It's also an amazing hike!
An interesting place to visit but very crowded. Probably best to visit early as it is open all day so beat the rush.
Is a wonderful place but a lot of peoples so can t see much
Definitely one of my favorite sites in Kyoto because of the thousands of Shinto gates. These are donated by businesses. The hike is about 3 4 hours but we didn't end up going to the top for the sake of time. I myself, love walking meditation so this is definitely a feeling for me. Take a note of all of the foxes which are messengers to The gods.
Amazing but quite busy, go to the top of the mountain, it's worth it !
A beautiful temple compound with the iconic 10000 gates lining up the hill. This area is large, sprawling with temples and shrines. I didn't get to visit all of it due to the crowds during Golden Week. Will visit again on a normal day.
Beautiful but try to go as early as possible to avoid the crowds. Alternately there's a side path up the mountain if you keep your eyes open!
Love it. Red every where, great view, i will be back soon
Very nice place but it is crowded up very much with tourists (like me). The higher you get the less people you meet. If you like fox ghost statues than you are at the right place. If you walk the whole track and walk fast without taking Fotos it's about 1..1.5 hour.
Very enjoyable day visiting Osaka Castle then Fushimi Inari in Kyoto as part of our coach tour. The shrine is very colourful and has great significance for Japanese beliefs. Lovely to see many women dressed in traditional kimonos walking around the shrine. Lots of steps and hundreds of red gates to walk through so you need to be fit enough to do it but worth the visit.
