Came here for lunch on a Sunday and did not enjoy our food at all.

We had the calamari, crab soup and clam chowder for appetizers. The calamari was dry and tasteless, felt like we were eating rubber rings. The crab soup was too salty, could not taste the crabmeat in it, what a waste! The clam chowder is something you could get from Costco, nothing special.

Then we had the sizzling plate with clam and shrimp. At least the shrimp was fresh. The biggest thing that bugged us was how tasteless their clams were! They must have been kept frozen for a long time....so were their squids for the calamari. Absolutely horrible and is for certain a tourist trap.

We had clam chowder which was ok ( not one of the best)
The crab was horrible. It was oily, over cooked and hard to eat it was so greasy. Waiter brought our food and we never saw him for half an hour. That is how long I waited to get melted butter. $45 crab that sucked. Big mistake. We are there around 2:30 pm. Maybe the regular chef wasn t there yet but I wouldn t take the chance.

Let's set the scene:

Thursday afternoon and I've got a hunger for soft shell crab, but whatever can I do to feed the need for delights of the sea...

In walks the Franciscan to save the day, but my Fiance is not a fan of the sea dwelling delicacy, so thank god the drink menu saved me from a life of crab-less days.

Order soft-shell crab to split with a friend and I plus some small plates for the table to be shared , add in a few too many Kettle one tonics, and I was on the path to a wonderful afternoon.

Go, eat and be merry.

Whole crab for 46 dollars, highly recommended. great experience with beautiful view of the bay. Airy decor and high ceilings, had a great relaxed lunch. Have had better oysters elsewhere. Chowder was delicious. Service is reasonably fast.

Nice location, but views of Alcatraz and the Bay obscured by aging, dirty windows. The food was good, but not exceptional. Slightly overpriced, in my opinion. Salmon in Cioppino sauce was good, while the house salad was boring and the Dungeness cocktail was undersized. Service was questionable and confused (multiple servers attempting to take orders, etc.), but always courteous.

Really nice restaurant with a 50's feel. Good views of the bay including Alcatraz. Service is very professional. I had the Prix Fixe menu, clam chowder (in a bowl), crab legs in garlic and small batch vanilla ice cream - all good. It is smack bang in tourist central, but I think this is a safe bet in the Fisherman's Wharf area

We have our lunch in Franciscan restaurant, it s very close to the pier. You can see The Rock and the battleship through its windows. Crab is fresh and meaty. We order 3.5 lb crabs for 2 to share. It s volume is more than our expectation. Sauce is a secret receipt of the restaurant, and it tastes good! Service is great, the staffs provide everything we need for eating the crabs, order the crabs, they will take care of the rest. LOL.

This place has some of the best seafood in the area but you will pay for it. Bit more costly compared to the street venders and other seafood places in the area(Pier 39) but still the best option in my opinion. If you want great seafood with a great view, this is the place to go on fisherman's Wharf, you can walk down to Pier 39 after as it's close and loose some of the calories you gobbled down while here.

Great.

This place is located right on fisherman's wharf overlooking the San Francisco Bay. They provided binoculars at the bay side window tables for viewing the area. We had the delicious bread and the prosciutto as an appetizer, then I had a seafood linguine and my lady had crab cakes as our main course. Also enjoyed a drink(minty lemon whiskey thing) and I had my standard tangi and tonic. Great service, good atmosphere. Would go there again

My wife and I went for dinner here last night. Our server Jay was brilliant and the food was delicious, I had crab enchiladas and my wife had a large clam chowder both were good sized portions. The only thing that let it down for me was there was quite a lot of mess on the floor. I appreciate that during service it gets busy and food and crumbs get dropped on the floor but it just looked as if the hole place needed a run round with a vacuum cleaner.

i try to visit san francisco at least once a year just as a get away.
on my very first visit years ago, a friend and i happened into the Franciscan for a drink and a small meal. it's now a tradition What an awesome place!
the view cant be beat, the food and service is great and the prices are lower than you would expect. last year i took my younger brother on his first trip to experience san francisco. first stop? cocktails and clam chowder on the balcony of the Franciscan! has to be done! no trip to San Francisco is complete without a visit to the Franciscan!

Food was decent. Portions are small. $50 for a crab is unreasonably expensive. Google evaluates this restaurant at two $. It is far more expensive than that. Expect to pay over $50 per person.

There's a crowd here, be prepared and book or be prepared to wait... at the bar. You get a sort of pager when checking in, which goes when your table is ready... but that's in a while.

After a few drinks and supporting a star making a discreet exit, your dongle pager blinks like mad and you make your way to your table, which in our case, faced San Francisco bay with night falling over Alcatraz. Kinda special.

The fried crab provides fun and unhealthy sustenance, but tastes good, and there's a wine list.

We enjoyed the location, the food and the service.

It's a decent seafood place with great views....for the price point I was expecting something a little something more refined. They have a 30 pg menu so if you are indecisive this might not be for you. I would come back for the views ....food wise it was not bad.

It is a place specialized in crab, the variety of dishes and flavors make it a pleasant place to enjoy sea food. The view highlights the landscape of San Francisco and its decoration recalls the restaurants of the sea of the 50s. Its only weak point is the price vs. the benefit, the portions are small but if you have the resources they are still delicious. Another strong point was the service and the recommendation in the wine

I simply like seafood, and these especially because they prepare them fresh like on the beaches of my country El Salvador.

I am Salvadoran and in my country one of the favorite dishes served in hotels or ranches on the shores of the beaches is seafood, that is why I love seafood.

Excellent food and service. Seasoning is on point! Extremely busy resturant but the chefs keep the quality of the food excellent. Seating staff also keep the ocean of people coming in controlled well.

It's hard to rate seafood restaurants but this place made it easy the moment i walked in. Walking up the stairs you almost forgot the timeline you in. Beautifully decorated inside with incredible view and when you order you get one top 3 seafood experiences I personally had in the past few years. I highly recommend this place if you in San Francisco
