A very enjoyable and educational experience. We went on Monday and the attendance was quite low so we were able drive at our own pace and view many animals not native to the USA. Observing the Rinos and Cheetahs was especially wonderful.
It was the best! !! It's quite large and scattered with animals, so I felt that it depends on luck whether you can see it nearby. I visited for the first time, but fortunately the giraffe approached me so I was able to feed it directly.
Get 1 cup of food at the entrance (included in the ticket fee) and enter by car. There is an observatory and a cafe at the back of the course, so the course is set to go there and return. I visited with a ticket from 10:30 to 11:30 on Saturday morning. I passed the entrance at 11:30 and arrived at the observatory at the turning point at 14:00. After spending about 30 minutes there, I left the exit at 15:00. I gave all the food to go, so the return was relatively early. I was able to feed deer, zebras, and giraffes on the way back and forth. On the way back, I only saw other things, but I was able to meet cheetahs and sai. It took an unexpected amount of time, so I thought it would have been better to have a ticket a little earlier. There is a lot of waiting time because there are animals and they line up where they feed.
The prairie, the blue sky and the giraffe were also very powerful and very satisfied. I would love to visit again.
For reference, I will post a list of animals that were on the pamphlet. Finally, the animals on the page with the wolves in the pamphlet do not seem to be seen nearby unless you sign up for a guided tour. (Sai was on his way home)
Not worth the money spent for a family of 4. + Would be better to feed vegetables than animal feed pallets, which not natural at all + Employees trying to up sell with wrong/hiding/manipulated information
I used to go this park years ago and was very well maintained and fun. However, now there aren't any animals and too pricey. It is very lonely and terrible overall.
Wasnt sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. However, those people feeling like they needed to speed past others in line to get near the animals or taking way too long blocking everyone was ridiculous. It was nice having snow cones at the top of the hill half way through. We will be back.
This was a fun and exciting experience for everyone. Lots of interaction with animals early in the morning. Highly recommend to buy the animal treats. They will come up close to the window. Even stick their heads inside. Great pics with the kids and friends. Had lunch at halfway point. I've included photos in photo section.
plan on a full day at this park, the animals will or may place their faces in your car...do not freak out! The kids loved it here and please take your time. Do no rush through this experience and pull over out of the way of the cars if you feel your are holding people up.
I been in mostly all safaris here in tx and yesterday I visit this one and for me it wasn't a great ride even for my family,I was excited cause they have giraffes, cheetahs and rhinos,so they just let you buy one little bag for feeding animals so I told the employee why only one bag in the another's safaris I have been you can buy so many bags ,she told me you can only feed the giraffes.well so we went inside drive in safari and this safari they got another package that it's like 40 dollars per person that they ride you in there special or safari ride well in every place they got animals they got a special road were only staff or they can go threw and us like in your own vehicle you go around them.so this guys feed there animals there so the animals stay there and the people that ride with them will see them near them , so the only people that can enjoy that are the people that ride the ride with them ,for me and my family,we just saw grass and trees and dears no animals just like 20 and a long and long road it really suck it's better in jonhson city exotic zoo and frankling safari
Once you go in, the cars are bumper to bumper, and be prepared to wait 30 minutes to an hour to see an animal. Even the other "positive" reviews note the long lines and wait times. The roads are narrow and often blocked by a single car in the middle, which means that you are stuck in 100 degree heat and cannot even skip to see the next site. The website claims to require pre-purchased tickets online during covid-19, but everyone can just walk in and buy a ticket.
If this is how the company treats its paying customers, how well do we think they treat their non-paying animals? There are plenty of other venues with more robust crowd management and better customer service.
A really cool place to carry the family. We enjoyed the visit immensely. If you go, make sure and spring for the food to feed the animals. Also, make sure and save a little for the giraffe. It was really awesome having it lean all the way down and take food right from your hand. Thank you for a great time !
You can feed animals when you drive in the park. It's funny but the ticket price is a little high. Adult is $24.99, children are $19.99. Animal food is $7 .My son enjoyed in it.
Phenomenal. We had the private tour. Enjoyed every minute of the day. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraged us to ask questions and take pictures. The animals would walk up near the vehicle yo be fed which allowed us to take great pictures.
This was an excellent choice for a family outing. The animals look very well taken care of, and very healthy. They are out in their natural habitat and free to roam. It felt like a safari while driving in with on our own vehicle. The children loved it, especially when the animals would come up to the vehicle and to be fed! I would recommend you bring a picnic basket and go up to the mountain close to the Cafe, and see the view from up their while eating, it's Excellent!!!
Was fun except they put food in the giraffe feeders far away from the road so my kids only saw the giraffes from a distance and did not get to experience feeding the giraffes.
This is one of my favorite places. There are a lot of animals to see, and everyone is really knowledgeable about the wildlife. We have done various tours in the Intensive Management Area, dinners, and spent time feeding and photographing the site. If you arw travelling from far away consoder staying on site at the Lodge or Foothills Safari Camp (breakfast is included!) . i love feeding the animals, esp hand feeding the sweet giraffes! Theres also a kids petting zoo where they can pet goats and see some cool animals up close. We're never disappointed and I always look forward to our next visit!
.... "It took my breath away!'" ....after I saw the price list! "Reasonably priced" -- if you're Warren Buffet or Bill Gates maybe. I could feed the family for a month on what it would cost to go through this thing and feed these animals. After seeing this on "the daytripper" I was looking forward to taking my 5 yr. old granddaughter, but after looking at the price list I can say that is definitely not going to happen. A further example of the rift between economic classes these days.
So fun and so pretty. The scenic drive is worth it alone. We got to feed tons of deer, emus, and ostriches. The giraffes seemed to be completely uninterested in eating the pellets, which was a bummer since they are the only ones you re supposed to feed by hand. But we still got to see them pretty close and watching them eat leaves from the trees was neat. Went on a Monday morning and there was no crowd. At some points it felt like we had the place to ourselves, it was great!
The worst facility I've been too they do not manage traffic I sat in the middle of the park for 30 mins at a dead stop and you can not get a hold of anyone in the office DO NOT COME HERE go to natural bridge or bueno Vista.
Focused on conservation while providing an opportunity to educate the public. We took the behind the scenes tour and it was fantastic, well worth the time and money to get extra information and see areas of park not available to general self-guided tour. Jerry, our guide, was very informative providing insight on history of park, the endangered animals the organization is helping and their approach to conservation. Definitely happy to support this worthwhile organization!
This place is Amazing! Not only is it entertainment for you and your family but it is actively working to save wild animals. You can take a guided safari ride or drive your own vehicle through the park. The best part is being able to take pictures of and feed the animals. Definitely a must see!
AMAZING. Our tour guide was so sweet and precious! We were so surprised when we found out she d only been working there for 5 months! She knows her stuff and is so polite and well-mannered. Shoutout to my home-girl (i cant remember her name)
Very disappointed!! Been here a few times before and each time was more disappointed from the last. For starters, the park rangers were clearly in the way of letting us feed them. Every stop we got near, where the animals wanted to feed the staff would rudely move them away. Didn't feed any ostriches, giraffe, and no zebra at all , they weren't even in sight ANYWHERE! . The cheetahs were where they always are and really out of view. This time was the worse!!! 4 hours for a handful of deer and a couple rams. Oh, and two rhinos! Smh....
If you want go there expecting to see animals, then don't go.lf you want to go to sit in line for a couple of hours with nothing much to see, then this the place go.
I truly enjoyed driving through this center. The animals were absolutely gorgeous . I have so many pictures any videos, feeding the Giraffe was awesome! I've seen so many animals that you would have to just see for yourself!
Very fun, especially with kids. The giraffes are very in demand and might not visit every car, but most of the rest of the animals have a high chance of coming close to you. Cheetahs are behind a fence, and rhinos were not on display when we visited, due to weather.
So much fun and kid friendly. Be patient because it does get busy and can take a while to get through the 7 mile drive. It was fine to have my 2 year old on my lap instead of the car seat. This might sound crazy, but twice I was able to get the giraffes to come towards the car by making clicking horse like calls, and one stuck it head into the sun roof. I would also, as other people say, go early. Pro tip, AAA discount saves you a few bucks. If your not in a rush, take a picnic and stop at the halfway point, or grab lunch at the cafe. I had the Philly and it was pretty good.
Great place! Our son liked feeding the animals and the views were beautiful! We were hoping to see more animals that are listed in the brochure. Only less than half were out..missed seeing the cheetahs and wolves. Other than that, it's a great little getaway!
I enjoyed it here because it appears that the animals are well taken care of. If visiting in the summer, it would be wise to arrive early in the day or later in the afternoon when it is not quite so hot. Otherwise, you'll find most of the animals in the shade of the trees.
I realize, according to the signs on the door, that it is for the good of the animals but it would be nice if we could have purchased another bag of food. We did not ration well so, we ran out a little more than halfway through the park. Those animals that greeted us near the start were "fat and happy"... those nearer the end, not so much so. Some seemed "irritated" that they left the shade to come to our car, only to find that there was no food for them.
Another issue was that a great number of animals were stationed along the roads which said "No entry. Staff only". If this is "normal", should we return, I would need a larger telephoto lens (at least, a 280mm) to capture those off the paved roads. Same for those still under the trees, though it was late in the afternoon.
We've been to Natural Bridge in San Antonio and expected similar. Expectations were way off. After spending $70+ we drove for hours to see deer and goats. Oh yeah and cheetahs and giraffes far away in a cage. No Zebras or anything. We looked in trees and everywhere. Not sure if construction affected it but we will never be coming back. Save you money and drive around country roads, you're likely to see more animals.
By far the most exciting zoo experience you will ever have. The animals are not afraid and walk right up to the car, some even put their head in! Crazy fun! 10 out of 10 would recommend
It is with sincere regret that I feel I must write a bad review regarding the unprofessional and discourteous treatment I and other tourist are receiving from certain staff members at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. It is unfortunate my family and I were unable to visit because the gates closes BEFORE 3:30 pm. We arrive at 3:29pm according to iPhone. I took the liberty to speak to a staff member in regards the gate being closed before hours of operation. She immediately replied, "you were late, sorry".
We had the MOST wonderful time! I only wish I lived closer. Waking up to the sound of wolves howling was breath taking. Wonderfully taken care of wild animals.
It is a nice place to visit with kids. You can get close and personal with black buck, deer, antelope, emu, etc. And is fun to feed them as well (don't forget to buy animal treats). They will come close to the car window and feed from ur hands. The kids will thoroughly enjoy it. I wish they had more other wild animals as they have quite a lot of space.
Fossil Rim is simply amazing! It's a great outing for families, especially with young kids who are interested in animals. The restaurant and souvenir shop are certainly a highlight but the best part is getting to feed the animals on the safari, especially the giraffes and ostriches!
It was great the customer service was awesome you can bring your own food and have a picnic there is a shaved ice Van that kids can make their own ICE the animals look beautiful healthy the view is great
A trip here is always a fun one. The kids always have different reactions to the wild animals every visit. Couple with the fact that the staff is always kind and courteous, this is one of those places that just might become a yearly tradition for our family.
I agree with previous reviews. It is way overpriced for what you get ($100+ for a family of four). They don't limit the number of vehicles that can go in so we were stuck in some places for HOURS. There isn't a wide variety of animals, and when we finally got near some to feed them the RUDE STAFF kept purposely moving them away from the cars. I was excited for the giraffes but apparently only certain people can feed them then they put them back in their cage.
They should seriously think about going green. Avoid entry of cars and instead deploy buses that takes group of people. Instead humans do what they are best at., create massive traffic woes wherever they go.
