Really cool piece of history. A must see destination.
Really cool piece of history. A must see destination.
I like this beach because it's quiet and close. I arrived at high tide and there was very little beach in the spot I went to but this improved when the tide changed. I'm not sure how other areas of this beach were affected by tide. I went for a walk during low tide and it was beautiful.
For Monroe National Monument is a must see if your in the area. A lot to see & walk around. Very nice atmosphere and environment.
Nice place for jogging and walking along the beach plus you have a fishing pier the fishing pier is free but you need a saltwater license two fish
Really nice and quiet place to take in some US history and Virginia scenery.
An amazing step back in time in our military's history. Astounding to see what was able to be built centuries ago!
Great part of history. So beautiful to just walk around on a nice day.
Not much to see here yet. Hopefully the city will make the fort a destination location
I always loved fort monroe even as i child our family would go there to shop at the old PX. Great Times!
Great place! Great service. Has food and ice cream also
Casemate museum is really well done, but the rest of the fort leaves a lot to be desired. I understand the fort is old and is essentially an abandoned Army base, but driving around the fort they are a lot of older buildings in poor condition with no signage as to what they once were. And on top of this, apparently people actually still live in some of the old houses inside the fort, which was kind of confusing. Overall, I was a little underwhelmed.
This is my favorite place that is still kind of a hidden gem. I hope it stays this way.
Loved it. Wished the museum was open a tad later. We just missed it closing at 4:30pm on Saturday. It was clean
Great place to get married its a monument so its going nowhere, its beautiful and a hard place to forget. If you love history and want to make history you'll get married here
Nice spot to look around at. If you walk around the perimeter there is a pet cemetery.
Wonderful place to get a history lesson and learn about the area. My kids love running around the ramparts and having a picnic lunch on the parade grounds.
It's a great piece of history and is nice to see the old buildings and just take a walk around there.
Even in Winter Fort Monroe is a wonderful place for tide watching and beach combing. During low tide hundreds of sunrise tellin shells are deposited on the beach. A great place be.
O this place is beautiful. A real piece of history.
Fort Monroe in entirety is larger and full of history. From the. Beautiful coastal scenery to the brickstyle homes and artillery bunkers scattered throughout the fort. Inside the fortress itself you'll find some historical sites and recidences. Tours are offered throughout the area. The only way to get in is through 2 scenic bridges or by boat to it's port, which is mainly recidences' boats docked there.
Cheap place for a family... views perfect for photos... A brewery plus two waterfront eateries and history museum.... cannons for kids to play on
Had a lot of fun here. The space and grill was more than accomadating.
Great place to walk, enjoy the scenery, and perhaps watch a ship come by.
interesting fort you can drive through or walk. the beach is also right next door.
The 400th Anniversary Commemorating the First Africans Landing in America (Hampton Virginia), in 1619 was, in a word outstanding. It will not soon be forgotten.
Went to the beach club. Had to sit out while, the clraned the pool 2 times. Found feces in the water. Yuck
This is very relaxing place for both runners, history buffs, kite flyers and vacationers. This is a park that has beer place near by and a beach, how can you not win.
Great place to walk and visit. Beach is a great alternative to going to VA Beach.
I recommend the place for a driving or walking tour, quite attractive and interesting
Great place to ride your cruiser bicycle. Lots of history at the fort. Nice beaches. There's even a brewery!
Wonderful place to visit. Lots of great history around the fort.
Came here in 2010 when it was still active. Now it's a beautiful place to visit and relax.
The part I liked the best is what I wouldn't have expected--the beach to the north of the fort. Top notch locale for relaxation.
I usually come here to study or just have some peace and quiet. It's a great spot to hang out and chat or just listen to music.
Very interesting place, lots of history happened here
Great place to visit for some all American history.
Love Ft. Monroe. Great place to walk our American Bulldog while he's in training for becoming my service dog.
A small but significant historical museum, free and everyone should go. It's humid and has low ceiling. So if you are afraid of enclosed areas, this might not be for you.
Have to love history. Great to just walk around and take in the sites!
A great place to walk or jog on the "boardwalk" along the beach and enjoy nature and the many scenic vistas. Or you can enjoy the historical aspects of the fort as well. Plenty of places to park free of charge. Overall, a great place to visit.
Beautiful park like setting is a great place to live and play. The setting is great to take the dogs out there for a walk or just go for a run on your own. Lots of history and natural scenery combines to make one of the best places to visit or live in the area.
Awesome Family Beach. No tourist crowds. Great beach club with a pool if you prefer. Always Police Patrol presence. They are also very helpful.
Great views of the bay. A great area to literally stroll through history. The site is the location of the earliest African presence in Virginia. Lots of military and AmericanI military significance here.
A quiet quaint little place, I fell in love this this secret beach without the boardwalk I will definitely be back
I've been here twice and will definitely be returning. I plan to visit the Casemate museum at some point and I think it's been preserved very well and with the best of intentions. The beach is clean and not too crowded, which is always nice and the path they have looks great because it is wide enough to accommodate walkers and bikers and dogs, which in my experience can be rare.
Absolutely Stunning place to workout or just hang on the beach!
It's always nice to walk and see the ships pass by. Also great to get photos of the sunset
The history behind this place is amazing! It's been well kept and a neat place to go to.
Such cool and obscure Civil War history. Every major player from Lee to Lincoln as well as E.G. Poe stayed at the fort incl. the imprisoned Jefferson Davis. Beautiful post as well on the Chesapeake Bay.
Lot of history here. The fort the Civil War. The first slaves in Virginia (1619). There are a lot of dimensions to the land. Even beached to sunbath and swim on.
