Very crowded and it seems that much of the beach has washed away. My kids enjoyed themselves so it wasn't a complete waste.

We took our girls here as part of the Explore Hampton girl scout badge, it was interesting learning the history.
Great place to visit. Just make sure you have your big spray.
Great information about history good freindly people very clean have very good fews of the water and the actual place we're people were .
Born and raised in the area. One of my favorite places to walk, jog, relax and observe history and natural beauty.
Beautiful beach with a great brew house in the area.
This is a most see!! The beaches are beautiful and quiet. The swimming is great. The history and exploration of this place is amazing too. Don't miss out!
Great family oriented recreation place for biking, jogging, running, RVing, cookouts and of course fishing and swimming, nice campground there and adult club.
I was actually at the Firehouse Cafe & passed the monument. This real firehouse converted into a charming cafe offers fresh coffees/amazing cooked from scratch deserts. The scones & muffins were truly out of this world. They also offer a nice menu of homemade sandwiches & wraps. But another factor that will keep me coming back time and again is they are pet friendly, offer handmade dog treats, little water station out front where there are seats to longe in. Also another important part of this awesome place is the service is so friendly, kind & helpful. Wonderful place!
I liked how I could walk through most of it and stand in the cell that Jefferson Davis was held in after the Civil War.
Hill Station in southern Punjab. 82 KM from D. G Khan District. People across the country rushed there to spent time and comes back with pleasant memories.
I really enjoyed myself!!! The atmosphere was great!!! The people were great!!!! Everything was organized very well!!!
Beautiful place to checkout if you're into history! There's a pretty cool museum, historic homes that are currently occupied by locals. You cross the moat to get onto the fort. Don't miss the "pet cemetary" that runs along the top of the fort walls. Great view! beach is nice, too! Looking for a day trip to get you outside? this is it!
A quiet place to explore military history and enjoy the seashore.
Its had a pool and beach which was awesome! Also bar too.
Great detail!! Would have enjoyed a coffee outside but Fort Monroe is one of favorite places to visit. The moat surrounding it is awesome and it is just beautifully upkept!
Awesome place to stop and take in the beauty of the harbor and Chesapeake Bay. Beautiful lighthouse nearby and plenty of history to learn about. Driving into the fort was pretty cool! Great escape from the hustle and bustle of the cities.
Excellent place to visit and go fishing at the same time
Beautiful. Great place for birding. Waterfowl galore!!!!
i frequent this place every year. a little sad there's some graffiti on the old cannons, but when the museum eventually opens up it's going to be great. it's awesome to walk the battlements and take in all the memorable statue placards as well.
Very nice place to visit, fishing pier was fun to fish
Went here before for a canoeing trip and the waters are calm(good for first-time riders)
Always a pleasure! Love the beach! It's where I had my first date with the love of my life! Better than Buckroe, less crowded and more enjoyable experience
Hidden fun right before you enter I64 hrbt (Hampton roads bridge tunnel) towards norfolk. Fishing, brewery, bar, historic sites and more. The 4 exits on hrbt to this area can have very heavy traffic at peak times. Don't get stuck in traffic.
I love exploring here and the hidden museum was cool too
A fun and educational place fir the family to visit.
What a breathtaking site. My love and I spent the weekend bopping around different historical sites, with this one being one of the ones to cap off our trip. We made a great decision by coming here!
The entire (peninsula? island?) is absolutely gorgeous - we didn't get a chance to explore every area but just by driving around we could see walkways and beaches being enjoyed by people. This area is truly gorgeous and I'm a little sad we didn't spend more time here! Our visit mainly focused on the fort itself, however.
We arrived first thing in the morning and walked around a little bit outside before the museum opened. It opened a little early and we were welcomed inside by the security guard. This was a really great experience as well! The exhibits and information stretch back from the earliest contacts on the beach and up through the final military postings from the last few years. There's a lot of love that goes into the presentation of the information and conservation efforts; my favorite is when places like this discuss the conservation work they're doing by highlighting some of the technology or exhibit arrangement decisions they make in the building.
We had to get going to beat a bit of traffic, but this place is more than worth multiple visits. I'd highly recommend this place if you're at all interested in military history, colonial history, or beautiful scenery.
Ok.... Most of the lights are diet and shaky ..... But the boardwalk send safe with all the police being close by...I wish they would fix all they plant life growing out of the sand though.... But them actually having people to direct parking traffic was a good look.... Will be back
This historic site is beautiful, and so rich in history! Ft. Monroe's Case Mate museum is a great glimpse into the history that this place still holds. Access to parks and beach make it a great place to visit, and with security and police forces on the base makes it a fairly safe place as well.
Awesome view too many people no social distancing I left
I was very very impressed with the quality of this place! The museum is better than any other historical fort I've been to, and with Outlook Beach right there it was a great family day!
Full of history, a place to stimulate your mind and enjoy the view.
Lots of history. Worth a visit to spend an hour or two.
I enjoy coming here, I take my kids here on occasion.very nice. Allot of history here
Love to come in the evenings
Great place
Ft. Monroe is a jewel in the city of Hampton. This subdivision has food, beer, events, historical sites, fishing, camping, boating/kayaking, parks, and a museum!
Great place for history, the free casemate museum, the fort and a beach/fishing access. Well worth spending the day here! Other possibilies, watching a huge barge pass through to port and dolphins sightings.
Fireworks were awesome! We stayed on the beach and watched. Traffic leaving was terrible! We didn t move for 45 minutes! We only live 20 minutes away but it took us 2 hours to get home
I love this place me and my family go here all the time in the summer also mostly year-round as well as they have a free museum very secluded beach and a great place call to Chamberlain hotel that has a great breakfast and brunch for something like Valentine's or anniversary.
I just LOVE Fort Monroe. In addition to being beautiful, it is always peaceful and a nice serene place to walk the beach, ride a bike, play in the sand or just get in the water. Also a good place to read a book or even write one. Quiet and relaxing!
Beautiful and very quiet although I've been told it's not safest area but as far me. I've had only good experiences here.
Very Nice Historical Fort - well taken care of & houses still in use. Worth the side trip to explore this area on our way south. Would have loved to spend more time here. Will come back to explore the fort further.
Great place to get a sense of the Slave Trade and the Confederacy.
Great place for pictures and a lot of fun to visit.
TONS of history to be learned. One can spend hours here and still not see everything. Wanna go back!
Otherwise romantic twilight walk ruined by swarms of gnats
This is one of my favorite places in the whole world. Theres so much to discover here. Truly a beautiful and unique place. A lot of cops though since theres a police station on there so don't be suprised when you see a bunch. Otherwise I 100% recommend going for the beach or to explore!
A very peaceful national monument, despite being a fort. Plenty of space to wander, and they do an excellent July 4th fireworks show, with food vendors and live music!
Beautiful, serene and very tranquil got to see the US NAVY headed to sea!!
The beaches are perfect, especially for little kids. I do wish they had a bath house but even without we always choose this beach for a get away.
A beach off the beaten path. Family oriented and not overly populated.
Beautiful place ... took my maternity pictures here and love to take my daughter to ride her bike here
Great history great historical place to go to for info
This is a really interesting old fort, and one of the only forts in the country with an actual water-filled moat. You have to take a one-way road in or out of the fort. They do regular tours during business hours.
Don't miss the museum while you're here!
Beautiful place...extremely clean and relaxing..the view of the water is amazing
Easy to get to, lots of free parking, very pretty and on the water, lots of local history. There's even a lighthouse, and it's pretty cute although small. Good place to take a weekend afternoon trip to go and explore and walk around at!
This is where I had engagement photos done. Lots of old historical buildings. The place is super cool. Then there's the beach right next to it. Great place to go and just hang out. It cost nothing to just hang out. I didn't do the guided tour but I'm sure to do it next time I go.
Very interesting. Good place to visit, if you enjoy history.
Check out the virtual tour online or visit in person for some historic insights right from your very own Hampton Roads history books!
5 stars for the fort and the casement museum coverage of the beginning of the end of slavery, but just 1 star for coverage of the beginning of slavery with the arrival of the first Africans in Virginia in 1619. Hopefully the new visitor center will address this glaring shortcoming.
The fort became a national monument in 2011 for these two reasons and yet today, 8 years later, coverage of 1619 is nearly absent from the Monument. Why?
