I've been taking Spanish for non-speakers since July. Its now February and honestly FLVS is awful. The only reason I'm taking this course is because its required for graduation at my high school. Its the worst education system ever, my teacher sometimes never answers my calls and when she finally calls me back its at the worst possible time not to mention she never answers my emails. The textbook is just terrible and it doesn't even make sense and is very confusing. The whole working at your own pace is not true because you have to complete 4 assignments per week and if you don't they call your parents, and the assignments can be really confusing and others can be really easy to understand. The bottom line is, if you don't have to take a class on FLVS just don't do it, you will not enjoy the experience.

Teachers, if you can call them that, are alright. It's really luck of the draw but they all seem to give too much work imo. Overall as a student I feel no motivation and have been extremely stressed. The "teachers," shouldn't be considered teachers since they act like tutors. They give you the lesson plan and assignments and leave you be to figure it out for yourself. They do give you a number where you can reach them if you need help, but again that seems more like a role of a tutor than teacher. A teacher should walk you through or at least explain the bare minimum. It's like giving a child text books and telling them to read it. While yes it has everything you need you will always have instances where you don't understand. On top of that it doesn't seem to motivate you. If you pass then you pass, if you fail you're left wondering what you've done wrong but of course there is no one there to explain it or to even push you to do better. Overall it's stressful, demotivating, and tiring. Once i finish with my classes never again will i even consider this "alternative"

I m in 11th grade and the courses are very educational and interesting to learn about, all of my teachers are very nice and understanding. However I seriously hate how you must do every assignment instead of just recieving a zero. I learned that the hard way.

This is a great option if you're self motivated. This isn't a bad online school by any means, it's actually quite easy to navigate and has a good system to work on. If you're not though, even in the slightest bit, don't even think about it. Traditional school may not be as bad as you think.
I left traditional high school after my sophomore year due to depression and my misophonia to go to FLVS.
I've written and rewritten this review a lot, because it's so personality specific whether or not you'll do well in this. Personally, I didn't.
If you aren't a great communicator, have social or general anxiety, or suffer from depression, this probably isn't for you. Not to say you can't do it, but it makes it extremely hard. The teachers in my experience have been great for the most part, with the exception of one or two who didn't seem to care for the success of me at all. Most of them reach out to me, try and help, and are very precise with their DBA scheduling.
BUT, if you have trouble communicating with people and have anxiety induced by that, simply calling your teacher and asking for an extension or doing a DBA is really, really difficult and you'll end up getting behind. I got in a bad cycle of feeling under preped for DBAs (I usually wasn't, it was just anxiety), not wanting to schedule the DBA, and getting super behind. I did all my schooling online, so this was a big issue. It caused me to get dropped from many classes, but again, it was mostly my fault.

There are some teachers though, that are ridiculous with their requests. I had one teacher tell me I needed to finish 27 algebra assignments in 2 weeks. Two. Weeks. I got all the way up to the 27th assignment and it was a DBA, so I scheduled it on the last day she gave me to do all the assignments (a friday). She then told me she couldn't do it until the following Monday, so I scheduled it for then. When I logged into the class early Monday morning to study before my DBA, there was a withdraw request. I was so devastated because I was about 80% done with the class, and then all the progress poofed away.
If you're someone who gets into periods of time where you're depressed and unmotivated, FLVS can definitely worsen it. Again, this isn't FLVS's fault necessarily. I would have days where just the thought of logging on and seeing all I had to do would bring me to tears. This was my own mental state and I tried to explain to teachers, but in the end I was withdrawn from a total of 4 classes.
I withdrew from high school today before my senior year and I'm going to start GED classes next week.
The moral of the story is this: if you lack any intrinsic motivation, aren't good at setting goals and deadlines for yourself, have issues speaking on the phone and explaining your thought process to adults, or get easily overwhelmed, these classes probably aren't the best choice. It's nothing against the website, everyone just learns differently and sadly this isn't the option for everyone.

Honestly, I absolutely hate this school. The live lessons waste too much of my time and by the time it's 2, I was finally able to complete my actual work. Most of my teachers put too much expectations and assign too much for one day. They don't even explain the assignment that well. I ask for help because I don't understand and they give the bare minimum explanation for it. It caused me so much stress and anxiety. Now, I'm in public school and I'm doing so much better. I suggest that you please care more about the students more than their progress.

I am the mother of a 4th grader. We did the FLVS last year, and we both liked it. This year I find myself frustrated and confused with half of the assignments. The teachers are great and technical support has been fine, which is why I gave 3 stars, but the way the content is delivered makes me want to tear my hair out it is so confusing. For example, my son has to write 2 papers. The assignment outline clearly states that it wants to know how two random characters from the previous lesson behaved. The characters that the paper named were nowhere in the current lesson or the previous lesson. After reviewing the two lessons for over an hour, we finally determined which two stories we were supposed to compare (the two characters mentioned in the assignment outline where nowhere in the stories). That was time that could have been spent writing and learning. But this keeps happening and is why I will probably disenroll my son next year. He is getting good grades, but the level of stress and confusion is just not worth it. There are a lot of things I like about FLVS, and last year the flexibility was great. This year, however, they are just asking for too much and are not delivering quality learning material. Big disappointment. I will be sure to complete their surveys as well as this review. I just hope they are taking these complaints seriously.

Florida Virtual School is one of the most carcinogenic presences on the earth, however it is also quite useful for scholarly students wishing to pace themselves with rather simple yet informative work.

Flex is a great idea, i have had my 2 kids in it for 4 years now, This year they have a Lazy teacher who puts absolutely no effort into helping my child, and she loves to threaten you with withdrawing my child because she doesn't understand what is going on because the teacher is to lazy to explain it! Horrible teacher!

Honestly most of these google reviews are just you...

Honestly most of these google reviews are just young students not used to the responsibility of having to manage their own classes and then fail , which causes them to blame the school. Now I am going to list actual reasons on why this miserable school is the worse virtual school in the entire country.

1. First off these "teachers" shouldn't even be called teachers. They are more akin to automatic response robots. the teachers are absolutely unnecessary and have no reason to work here other than just to harass and breathe down the necks of students.

2. dbas are very unnecessary and is only in place for brief human contact for the student and the "teachers". It only adds stress to the students because the teachers can be so pushy and rude.

3. The school should not advertise for having a flexible school schedule because that is the polar opposite to the experiences I've had here. The teachers only job is too create an automatic email that is sent to students that are an assignment behind pace and pushes you to prioritize that class over others. Which fumbles the students and only increases the time spent behind.

4. This school has changed a lot since I first started a few years prior, and is sad that this might be the only virtual school for some students. its become very difficult to be an active and social person when you participate with this monstrosity of a school. I cant even count how many all nighters I've had to spend doing work.

5. Its honestly just a trap to suck in the students with anxiety and social issues to worsen those issues with the horrible teachers, bad lessons and assignments, and just a disaster of a website that prides itself on being one of the few virtual schools in the nation. And don't get me started on how laughably easy it is to cheat on all of the assignments, because of this the "teachers" wont even trust their own students. This horrid school has caused me and my family a lot of grief and stress, and I will never recommend this school to anyone unless they are my worst enemies.

This software is horribly designed, especially for use with 1st graders. If you have the choice not to use this, don't. The window are too small to read comfortable and the auto read feature is not smart enough to not read the Florida virtual copy write on every page. The courses are not well organized. it would be nice if we could easily print required materials before we sit down but instead you stumble into them and have to stop your workflow to print something. Very disruptive.I could go on but have to fight my way through my sons classwork.

I've done this stupid schooling system for the fourth year starting this year. It's miserable and I feel horrible because of overbearing teachers and rude staff. I've called my teacher Mrs. Barney(Algebra 2), several times and left multiple voicemails only to receive no calls in return. I'm only taking two classes because I was so stressed out with 7 teachers yet I'm behind in both still. Teachers are useless and the "work at your own pace" is a lie. Don't pay attention to those 5 star single sentence, "This place is great!" "My daughter loved this!". They are either fake, or a rare few.

Update: Just got removed from my Algebra 2 course. I submitted an assignment last night and was a bit caught up with other work for my English class. I didn't receive any text, email, or call as a warning that I would be removed and am now going to be berated by my parents about this. Thank you FLVS for hiring scummy teachers and for being the worst possible schooling option!

Complete and utter garbage of a (if you even call it a) "school system". The lessons are all made with little knowledge on the subject and tell you to go onto another site that actually tells you a little more. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT WOKR AT YOUR OWN PACE! If you don't complete any assignments because your on vacation they will KICK you out of the course. With no help and the teachers have no care and just complain that you can't keep up when they know it's bad to, but they won't say that cause they get paid. Last but not least, the program looks like it hasn't been updated sense the 1970's, no wonder nobody young can understand this like who wants to look at a mullet.

Teachers have trouble staying in contact and calling the website for help is almost impossible. This is because it takes about 30 minutes to reach someone, and then you get transferred like 5 times. Also, the classes had me stressed 24/7 They assume that you sit around with nothing to do for hours, but in reality i have only 2 hours to get done 5 hours of work. There are way too many lessons, and both times that I have taken these classes, I was racing to be on pace, which it was impossible to be. Plus, there are barely any classes for options and the ones that there are are so boring and useless. Defiantly DO NOT sign up to take a class on here unless you are forced to, or you sit around all day bored with hours to spare.

I really love FLVS. I have taken Driver's Ed and HOPE so far, both courses with amazing teachers. At the moment, I am taking Algebra 2 and I'm surprise by how much it covers and how much it explains how to do problems. The teachers are kind and easy-going, also incredibly supportive when they try/get you back on track if you slack off for a period. Most of the assignments I've encountered are easy, it's just the notes that take awhile to read over and understand. The small tests are quick and easy but they do count the pretests for a small grade which is my only complaint: why grade us on something we're not suppose to know?

The teachers act nice but I get the feeling that they really don't care. My teacher failed to give me proper insructions causing me to fall behind and make me hate the class entirely. Why is this mandatory Rick Scott? This obviously isn't the way to teach.

I'm speaking on my personal opinion of this school for this review.

In all honesty it could have been much better. But with the horrible communication with teachers and stress-fullness coming from this, I only give it 1 star. I took the online PE/Health class my freshman year and almost failed it because of the miss communication between the teacher and I. Which is ridiculous. I had to email, call, text, and have my administrators call to actually talk to my teacher sometimes. I don't even remember anything I had learned from that class. I then took Spanish 2 my Sophomore year. Again I yahoo answered and used SpanishDict. for everything I needed help on. This use for schooling is not efficient, what so ever. I don't remember anything nor had any motivation for doing these classes. The teachers are rude when you ask for help. But when you try and find help elsewhere they get mad at you. Some may say that "Oh, your just complaining to complain." But I just don't want students to get the wrong idea when they are about to start taking a class on this website. Its not the easy way out, WHATSOEVER. I would recommend that this website look through these reviews and see what the students are upset about. There are way to many assessments in one module.
Much more stressful then a normal setting classroom. Florida virtual school is not what I had expected it to be, like more students I thought I had found the easy way out of doing my school work.

I wouldn't recommend this source of schooling to any student or teacher.

I honestly hate it. Half of the stuff they "teach" you can be looked up on googleand they dont give two shits where you get there answers. They are always on some sort of vacation and are almost never available. This is my first and last year in FLVS.

I've been an FLVS student for about two years now. I'm assigned to 5 classes, which for me is 16 assignments for me a week. Honestly, I'm not complaining. I actually love FLVS! I would only recommend taking FLVS if you are extremely motivated to do your work. Yes, it can get a bit overwhelming sometimes, but aren't all schools overwhelming? I love being able to do my school work any time of the day Monday-Sunday! It saves a lot of stress for me personally. I'm able to catch up on sleep, have a social life and be happy all at same time. Most of all my teachers I have had, have been incredibly kind to me. If you don't like your teacher, you can just call their principal and switch! If your teacher calls you all the time, to remind you to do your work, that's just their job, chill! Anyway, FLVS is NOT as bad as people make it out to be! It takes time to get used to! Just stay organized, motivated and always remain positive. :)

FLVS is good if you have a little more than basic knowledge on the topic you re learning about. The learning resources never really helped me, but the teachers and live sessions are great. I believe FLVS is a great program if you do it with a tutor. I have now completed algebra 1, and 2 through this website and I m only in 8th grade. The biggest positive aspect of the website is the flexibility. I finished a course that usually take one year in 3 months. FLVS is great but only works for certain people. You have to already be good at online schools. 4 stars is a fair rating in my opinion.

Do NOT enroll your child in FLVS. It is the worse thing you can do. Ten times worse then regular school. The teachers are below average. They don't help you nor do they even care. Just don't do it. Especially if you would like to become a full-time FLVS student. There are better alternatives. Just research.

I would love to give it less then one star but I can't. I have taken a number of courses on FLVS and all of them have been proven worthless to me. I am an excellent student in school, but I've learned nothing from the classes I took. No one explains the content so your left assuming the proper way to understand it. It's too easy to put zero effort in and get a good grade, there are no social aspects involved, the is no motivation to complete it, and most of my friends agree it's pointless. I work in bursts, they say work at your own pace but its a lie, I completed half a segment in 3 days so I would have time for actual school, I was ahead of their pace but the teacher still complained I wasn't doing anything and I needed to continue working by the week.

FLVS is a great tool for getting elective courses ...

FLVS is a great tool for getting elective courses out of the way. However DO NOT use FLVS for core courses. While it is not impossible, the "lessons" are confusing and do a poor job at teaching you the material. Some of the teachers are helpful like my teacher Mr. Amon who made the experience bearable. In hindsight adding another class to my already difficult workload was a bad idea. But that doesn't excuse the plethora of technical issues I've had with this website, which resulted in a lot of work loss. It isn't worth the risk. As I previously stated, the confusing lessons coupled with the often meaningless assignments make the entire experience kind of stressful. If all you're working on is FLVS then you won't have a problem, but if you have other responsibilities, like most human beings, this won't be a fun time. The "work at your own pace" stuff isn't really true because they require you to complete a certain amount of assignments every week. Which (again) would be fine if you were working on this full time. But most people (again) are not. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DROP THE COLLABORATION ASSIGNMENTS!!! PLEASE! It's a pointless extra effort that students have to take whose only purpose is to annoy students and teachers a like. I give FLVS a little leniency because the online education platform is fairly new and kind of experimental and I understand the difficulties that come with establishing such a new platform. But as it stands now FLVS is disorganized, the lessons are void, and the website is prone to all sorts of EXTREMELY annoying technical issues. Also they used have a confusing website layout that didn't work optimally. But now the layout is even worse and makes it difficult for a student to get to their courses. They need to SERIOUSLY reconsider the web design. The only reason that keeps me from giving this service 1 star is its experimental nature. Don't use this service for important or required courses, it's a massive pain and waste of time.

Edit: The Discussion-Based Assessments are annoying and don't serve much of a purpose. They aren't that bad, they're simple enough but I can see how these assignments would be problematic for students with anxiety or other mental conditions that hinder social interactions.

Virtual School would not be my choice for schooling. I learn nothing from the lessons and learn everything form me mum. It's also super hard to do at school because no one really wants to stare at a computer and "learn math". I have learned nothing form virtual school so far and I only do well because I learned it somewhere else. If I had a choice, I would quit right now but I have to get grades and this is the only way.

This gets one star only because I can't give none. My son is supposed to take a math class over the summer to prepare for the rigors of a magnet middle school program next year. So far, the coursework is literally nothing more than Khan Academy, which is good for extra help and review but is NOT meant to be an entire education! The instructor refuses to answer her phone or email and only calls me on my cell phone when I'm at work and not with my son. I found out the other day when I submitted a transfer of instructor that she had him withdrawn from the class. I can't enroll him in another because FLVS says his guidance instructor has to approve and cannot do so because it's the summer, however she has ALREADY APPROVED the class! This is absolutely ridiculous! I'm taking the steps to enroll him in K-12 because here it is July and we have a few weeks before school starts up and there is really no time to screw around with all their red tape BS. I'd highly recommend going any other possible homeschool route.

I would like to give Mr. Black, our son's first FLVS teacher (Outdoor Ed) a shout out!
It was a pleasure to have him as our first instructor with FLVS. I know he has requirements to meet, but he was very easy to communicate with , contacted us as he lay out he would, expressed concerns to us when he thought our son may need our guidance and was always encouraging him through the course.
We even asked if Mr. Black taught any other course so we could sign our son up with him again.
Thank you for this wonderful experience!

This disorganized system causes stress to students and their families. Not only are teachers , if you would even call them that, ignorant, but they are also inconsistent about assignments and tests. The DBAs, discussion-based-assignments, are very unorganized and unneeded. FLVS was a mistake and what s worse is the mistake the school districts made when they decided that they wanted a corrupt system to be mandatory to already stressed out students. -99/10 would never think about again.

We ve been using FLVS for several years now, both full time and flex. The teachers are certified and extremely helpful. The site is very user friendly and lots of extra resources are given. We ve never had any problems with FLVS.

FLVS is disgusting. i know they're gonna hit me with the "sorry about your experience" blurb, but i have to say it. i was stuck in my course and my teacher (shoutout to mrs jeanette bedenbaugh) didn't answer my calls or texts for a week. i have a deadline and every day counts. i asked her to unlock a test for me and she said it was in my assessments. it wasn't. it was in the gradebook. i had to contact her supervisor for one lousy sentence. then the week after was her vacation. like?? you already had it when you decided to be absent from your job. if almost every assignment is pre-graded, why do they need a vacation? i don't get one lmao.

also, dba's need to stop. it's such an archaic way of seeing progress. if the student is turning in their assignments on time, leave it at that. the dba's are harmful for people with mental illnesses. if dba's could be done like the blackboard sessions are, like without talking would be great.
i mean, i have a friend whose brother pretends to be him on phone calls and does all his flvs work. if that's what they're worried about, they shouldn't be.

the assignments are just great too. if i'm pressed on time, i will not find eleven people's heights and wingspans, add it to a graphing software (i'm lucky i have one) and fill out a document and make an equation. lmao they like to go the extra mile.
flvs can do better honestly.

EDIT: i was kicked out of a collaboration session for having the incorrect password even though it was correct, so there's that :). that is not acceptable when i have to complete an eight week course in a couple months.

its not bad but its hard when you get taken out of school in the middle of the year and have to restart all your course online and only have half the time to finish as in normal school like a bunch of teachers slack on picking up on updating stuff and picking up phone and a major thing is flvs kills your social skills like crazy theirs pros and cons but mostly cons

Ok, so let me get these few things settled. The lessons do barely anything for the children. You expect us to read a tiny series of info and then magically get it? Second, work over summer?! That is NOT fair, and is against our free will, even for kids who do barely anything. They also do work over weekends. Not gonna lie here, but flvs is probably the worst school I have ever attended. The teachers hardly communicate with the students, and their always busy. I Do not recommend this school.

Teachers are very lazy and choose their own hours of work. The teachers don't respond when you need them to and ends up leaving me confused about what to do. I contact my teacher regularly and generally he does not respond. I did not take my exam for my class becasue he did not tell me that i had to contact by 1pm in the afternoon on a friday because he decides that he gets to leave early that day.

update - this was the orange county virtual school that i was pawned off to by flvs because they didn't offer drivers ed for me

I hate this site. I've done Algebra 1 over the summer where I literally had no time for anything else, and since my teacher was the principal, she was never available on Mondays because she was always in a meeting so I ended up doing the last 2 or 3 modules with the assistant and she was way nicer. Now I'm doing Spanish 2 and though my teacher is nice, most of the days I hope to schedule for DBAs are taken because there are literally over 50 kids in my class and she takes over 48 hours to respond and I'm locked out of an assignment for cheating (which I only did because she didn't teach us most of the lesson) and I have been for over a month now and I already asked her to unlock it because I already redid it without cheating but she says she's waiting or whatever. I doubt it takes a month to be able to unlock an assignment. She most likely was too distracted with other kids and forgot about my assignment (which I have a 0 on but I should at least have an 80% since I redid it pretty well). Like honestly I hate this site.

Wow I don't even know where to start. it sucks. The stupid study guides are worthless! I once took 3 hours filling out 2 study guides, and everything that I did on them wasn't even on the tests!!!! And sometimes the tests have nothing to do with the material you learned!!! And some teachers never call back or answer. and it is very annoying how it just goes straight to voice mail! The system is messed up, it steals assignments and then you have to do the work again! it is just not good. I wouldn't recommend starting unless you want to have extra complications added to your life.

Some of the teachers are really over the top and annoying. I'm in regular public school and flvs teachers have tried to call me during school hours. Even though I have warned them MULTIPLE times that I'm in school. I also do an assignment everyday (sometimes even more) and the teachers still text me saying that I need to complete more. It's really aggravating and annoying. So if you're one to get annoyed easily, I wouldn't do this program

I honestly hated this program. The teachers honestly don't care when you turn in an assignment and that makes me fall behind my schedule. I think teachers should be more concerned about their students and actually TEACH them. So far, my DBAs are basically being put in a "room" without a teacher and doing problems on the lesson recently taught. When i'm done, the teacher then comes in the "room" and checks if its correct then leaves. What kind of discussion is that? This program has seriously stressed me out by how complex it is and how teachers only care when a complaint is written to them.

But there is some good points. The teachers are nice and talk with a sweet tone, but that's it. :/

Don't do this unless you absolutely have to. The work at your own pace thing is a lie. This will add so much un-needed stress in your life, especially if you're doing it along with regular high school. the work at your own pace thing is an absolute lie. Again, don't do this unless you absolutely have to.

As a student at FLVS this is the worst school system I have ever experienced, the teachers are extremely vague and dull. The "Pace Chart" is absolutely pointless. If you are a parent looking to put your kid into FLVS, never do it, find another school. I am currently enrolled this year 2020 and the teachers assign 3-4 assignments per class and having 6 classes that could mean 18-24 assignments a week. Within those assignments are exams, tests, labs, you name it and they are all do at the end of the week. Its super stressful and the worst school experience I've ever had in my life. As a result of this I will no longer ever be apart of FLVS after this year its very stressful and causes a lot of anxiety and you end up in the hole very quickly with all the assignments they give out.

I have taken FLVS almost all throughout high schoo...

I have taken FLVS almost all throughout high school. I took it Freshman year with algebra 1, and I'm taking it my junior year in a course called Digital Informational Technology, now, and I'll probably take it senior year, next year, for guitar.

If you are thinking about joining, just know, that you have to stay on the ball with these courses. Its very easy to get lazy with them as some parts of it are easy, and then you'll get an assignment that puts everything you've learned so far together (and then some), and if you got lazy (like I) you will have forgotten a lot of it by the time you get to that assignment.

There is in my opinion, a lot of room for improvement, and I would like to get into it, however I doubt the school will take it into account, again, not saying there a bad school, they just have... well, the whole state of Florida to deal with.

My step daughters teacher Mrs Lafevers let s just say has a very unique approach to teaching. Patience is key for these young minds. We started a year earlier than we should of and experienced some developmental concerns. We haven t had the best experience so far but hoping 2021 brings out some positives! Keeping my fingers crossed for extra patience with our children. I plan to contact the school to discuss more in detail

FLVS was the best education alternative I have had...

FLVS was the best education alternative I have had for my son. The enrollment staff is very friendly and they know how to go very well in creating your account. I encourage people to enroll in FB homeschool groups, parents provide many tips for their experience. It took me a year to decide the best education for my son between public school, charter and private. FLVS was and is the best option. My son works at his own pace, all his teachers have a high level of knowledge of the subjects and give individualized support 12 hours a day, he only asks for his cooperation, FLVS offers thousands of tools to learn besides the core classes, you have electives like guitar, other languages, technology, etc. I am happy to be a Floridian since I have an individualized home education with excellent quality and at no cost. I have much more to speak but also much more to thanks.

Some teachers have an attitude, and this is really hard. But some assignments are okay and not that hard. But FLVS is decent, not the best. I prefer regular public school rather than this.

Me teachar tooooooook forever to grade my dose question response. She always enjected her oin into herself while I was doing a DbA. She was said she was going to feed me dog but when I got home, my cat exploded from the no food she gave me dog. At least my dog was healthy. The cat exploded in my 1 bathroom connected to my backyard. Someone old lady took a picture of it with their Iphone Xr. her lambo and drove into the ocean.

I am the parent of -----------, a student of Mrs. Eisen's FLVS class. I would like to tell you how professional, patient and prompt she is. Mrs. Eisen speaks to him with a cheerful and accepting voice. I also value how quick she is to reply to my text. I feel blessed she is my son's civics teacher. She is definitely an asset to your team.

All the teachers are great and respectful and want you to learn but in some cases flvs gets odd like how you cant submit your papers off of google docs I had so much trouble with that last year. But if you want a good alternative to public school then try flvs. Also Im seeing so many one star reviews but most of them are made up stories to take there anger out at flvs for miscommunication. It is true that flvs is FLEXIBLE but its still a school and real employees that are only HUMAN. Lastly my time at flvs was great even when I went to public school other kids distracted me and I couldnt get my work done but now I can focus just me and me only!

As a student, it's pretty okay despite the other reviews. I've never had a teacher I hated, and though there ARE some glitches (and the virtual fitness class is pretty stupid) the core classes (math, language arts, etc.) are nice.

FLVS is a great school. The teachers are so amazing, with 3 different ways to contact them. They are always ready to help you with your work. FLVS's courses are interesting and fun to do. I have done FLVS for 3 years and I have had no complaints. It is a work-at-your-own pace school. You can even set up your own pace schedule. I recommend FLVS to everyone. :)

The teachers are so bad. They take forever to respond when all I want is an exam password. Honestly the teachers don't do anything and when all I need is something like a text back about an assignment it takes them days. Also they are only available 2 hrs a day for dbas so what are they really doing? where can I apply to be an flvs teacher

We have worked with both FLVS FLEX and Full Time FLVS. It's a journey for both parent and student; a learning curve is to be expected (2 weeks or so), lessons are organized and thorough and the overall organization of both teacher and school (online) staff is superb.
Even with the influx of students registering this year, I have not felt alone at all! That's meaningful! FLVS staff has responded to my chats and emails in a timely manner and made things very easy to journey. Absolutely love this program.

Well i don't like it very much at all the teachers don't all ways get back with me and they are WAY WAY WAY to quick to kick me out of my classes and it is really stressful i'm a new mom and i'm new to this and 3-4 lessons in each class in class in 4 classes a week i can not do, i'm tired of getting kicked out i'm on the verge of quitting

Honestly FLVS is just a complete waste of your time, and its unfortunate because this is the only online website where i can complete work for the county in Florida. One of the reason why i first pursued FLVS was so that i could work "on my own pace" but just to get activated into classes with teachers who aren't empathizing to know that I have other classes and other thins going on in my life. For example as of now I was taking Parenting Skills, but to get withdrawn form the class because i wasn't submitting any assignments. But I was over the pace and over 50% completed in the class. My teacher no give out any reflection on assignments, or hardly send any emails which I said was the requested way of communication. and the website always glitches at times. Just get your credit for graduation and don't waste your time taking any classes online.

I decided to take FLVS for drivers Ed because I'm turning 15 soon. I have to admit I finished the course in 3 weeks , I went at my own pace also there was times when assignment was challenging, but it's like that in life. Anyways FLVS gave me the platform to prepare me for my drivers test and my teacher Ms. Seay was very nice and answered all my questions in a timely manner.

It is not a work at your own pace. The lessons are very long and boring, and the assignments are all projects that you have to do. The teachers always take till the end of the day to respond, and switch without warning. Terrible experience, the good reviews are probably workers.

I wont even rate this because at your own pace isn't at your own pace its at the pace your teacher wants and if you put a pace thats slow he/she will adjust it for you and its just insane and they pull fast ones on you they say you have one segment then it pops up there 2 3 or 4 and your screwed 3/5 worst thing ever but i rate it higher because if helped me do my driving.

Its the worst online school ive ever seen.the stress and anxiety that comes with this site is horrible. The teachers are never there and you get blamed and kicked out of a class for not "communicating" with them.If you have bad anxiety DONT TAKE FLVS i cant count how many anxiety attacks i had trying to do the work not getting it and when i try to contact the "teacher" they never answer. But i "have" to submit it even though I do not get it otherwise I will be kicked out if I don't. and end up failling it and then start finnaly geting phone calls only for them to tell my parents im failing and if i dont do something right away ill be kicked out.Not recommended

I am shocked that this online school has received a 2.4 star rating. This was my very first year in FLVS and i am loving it so far. But, i could understand everyone else, not everyone has the same teacher and some can be rude and treat the student like crap. I have had great experiences with my teacher and they were fully understanding when my work was late or if i needed an extension. I love Mrs. Shuana Liverotti for U.S History, she is amazing and super nice! I love all my teachers and they truly want the students to succeed. My homeroom teacher does a monthly call and he inst dull or starlight to the point. He tells me my progress and he gives me advice to improve or work on and he takes his time while talking to me, very nice! FLVS is very flexible and i love it. I enrolled in online school because my other school that i went to was very unorganized in administration, drugs, and fights. My mom has a much better conscious knowing that I'm safe from all that. The point is, don't let reviews stop you from trying out FLVS, this is coming from a student who is doing it for their first time. I am not paid or forced to say this, I'm just like everyone else leaving an honest review.

I took my 2nd semester of 8th grade on flvs and did not have a positive experience. I'm having to take my 1st semester of 9th grade on flvs as well, because I have no other choice, and I'm dreading it. Last year, it took 3 months before they put me into a classroom, and now it's going on the 2nd month waiting for them to put me in a classroom this year. & me and my teachers plate phone tag all year last year when I was ready from my dba. I hate flvs!!

I studied at this school for over 5 years. Now that I've moved on from it I can give it a proper review.

First of all, if you're a parent reading this review thinking about putting your child into FLVS, make sure you or the other parent can stay at home. You'll know why later.

It was fantastic. Every single year with every single course I was given proper opportunities to succeed in the assignments. If you studied the material, read the rubrics, and listened to the teacher, you would, with extremely few exceptions, get A's. The only times I personally did not get A's were when I was not putting in effort.

That would be enough to get 3 or 4 stars alone, but there's something else that sends this into 5 star territory, and that is the time management capabilities this school gives you. In a standard public school, you have to wake up an hour or so before school starts to get ready, eat, take off, etc. Then when you get to the school, you have to spend around 7 or 8 hours for each of your 6 or 7 periods + lunch break and maybe recess. When you get home after spending half your waking hours on school, you then have at least half an hour of homework to do... if you're lucky. That is soul-crushing in how much time is used up, and means a bad teacher will be an absolute nightmare. Meanwhile, in FLVS, you don't have to go anywhere if you have an internet connection. With few exceptions, you can wake up when you want, work when you want, and contact the teacher when you want. FLVS literally saved me **THOUSANDS** of hours due to this. I would've had a few hours of free time per day to spend having friends, exercising, and entertaining myself in a public school. In FLVS, I averaged 12 or more hours of free time out of the average 16 hours I was awake. Every. Single. Day. Even then, I still successfully learned the material, got A's, and got high scores on the state testing.

There was only one drawback not shared with literally every public school in the U.S. That is procrastination. I would end up cramming most of the work into the last month or 2 months of the semester, almost every time. If you're a parent looking to put your child in FLVS, this is why someone needs to stay back at home. If someone isn't making sure the kid is doing work, the kid will almost never do the work. This is also part of the cause of many negative reviews, lazy kids, or parents who aren't paying enough attention getting angry that the kid got bad grades because they procrastinated, didn't read the instruction, didn't ask for help, and didn't put in the time and effort necessary to get good grades. Do not put your child in this school if you cannot checkup with and/or help them several times per week. If you are a stay-at-home parent or the other parent is, then go for it, the kid will thank you later. The first semester or two will likely be shaky as the kid tries to learn the system, but if they get the hang of it, you'll have created many opportunities and saved so much time for them.

FLVS is so far from at your own pace! They started off telling me a recommended pace but now I am now being withdrawn and my teacher never told me! I have had four different teachers in one semester! I hate this program and can't stand that its a requirement!

FLVS is the worst thing to ever be invented, pleas...

FLVS is the worst thing to ever be invented, please just go to regular school. I've been using FLVS from 6th grade to 9th grade full time, and 10th and 12th grade partially. The assignments are complicated, and are honestly just a huge waste of time, you don't even accomplish anything from them. The lessons are confusingly written and just feel like an encyclopedia, despite the videos and games used to attempt to make the lessons fun or easy to learn, it is very difficult unless you can analyze the page like a computer and digest it all. The teachers are slow to respond and do not keep up with their appointments. The teachers also skim over any questions you have and will just tell you the assignment instructions or question without analyzing the question you're actually asking. On a social note, using FLVS will make your life extremely lonely unless you're already surrounded by friends who you see often. The years I used FLVS were extremely lonely and I literally had no interaction with anyone my age. Going to regular school was the greatest decision I ever made because it helped me learn easier from teachers that actually care about their students, and it also gave me human interaction. To conclude everything, FLVS is horrible and you should not use it.

I love FLVS, and am so confused as all of the low ratings. I'm in 10th grade and have been using the site full time for awhile now. It does take hard work and dedication, but it's an excellent opportunity to be independent and gain an education that is tailored to your specific needs. Teachers are busy, but they do their best to help with whatever you may need so long as you ask. If you are not prepared to take on the task, you will suffer, and that's no one else's fault but your own. I have succeeded on this sight more than I have anywhere else in my entire life. Flvs has changed my life and the way I look at learning, I love it now! It has opened the door to so many different opportunities I never thought possible. Because of this site I have straight A's and SO much less anxiety when it comes to school. My advice to people struggling with DBA's is PRACTICE. It is nerve racking answering questions over the phone with your teacher, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Flvs has prepared me for the real world in so many ways. From phone etiquette and being confident in my own skills, to functioning on my own and helping myself without the help of others. Flvs does take a mature, driven mindset, but I see a lot of reviews that seem more like the student is upset due to the fact that they weren't succeeding verses flvs doing something wrong. Bottom line, online learning is tough at times, there's no sugar coating it. But school is not supposed to be easy all the time. If your someone who doesn't enjoy working independently or lacks motivation/ drive to complete assignments etc. this may not be for you, but it's amazing for someone who is willing to take on the challenge. Things will not just be handed to you, and they shouldn't be. It's SCHOOL, you will be required to actually put forth the effort that it takes to succeed, but that's with anything in life. And if you do, your results will grow to be worthwhile.

I hate flvs. I turn in assignments and i get a bad grade. so what it happens. then i have MULTIPLE SPANISH SPEAKERS help me and they say it is fine then i turn it in and i still get 30s on assignments. Plus i turned in an exam with a PASSING GRADE then about 2 days later i looked at the grade book and the teacher MADE MY PASSING GRADE DROP FOR NO REASON. then i complained. DON'T USE THIS SITE IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE LANGUAGE. WORST CLASS EVER. Also it took the teacher 1 month to grade an assignment. That should be 2-3 days. unecceptable

The course variety is okay, but many teachers are ...

The course variety is okay, but many teachers are not invested in their work. They don't care about being able to help the students, and there are many ineffective assignments that don't help comprehension. For part time FLVS students, the pacing is fast, and hypocritical. "With FLVS, you can go at your own pace," as long as your own pace is 3-4 assignments for the week, and no exceptions, or you get kicked out of the course and the F goes on your transcript. If you had a easy week at physical school, and you submitted 10 assignments, you still need the same quota for next week. Working ahead, or having to catch up is nonexistent. The pacing needs a lot of work, and that is my biggest issue.
