Great old skool record store that also carries vintage games, tapes, DVD s and more
Excellent customer service
Freshes finds. They have a great collection of modern vinyl, rock, blues & psychedelic rock.
Great place. Great people. Great records. If you are a music fan, you will not be disappointed at this shop. Highly recommended!
Old and dingy. People were more interested in the dogs that were there. Bunch of used overpriced stuff. Not a place to find heavy metal stuff
Went to purchase a copy of To Pimp a Butterfly here, staff was friendly at the time, helpful and observant. Organization is a little iffy but it's not the worst I've ever seen. Got sold a record with an manufacturing
error (warped 180g) and emailed the business. They seemed very understanding about it and ensured me that their records have a 30 day money back guarantee. We went to return the record and the attendant was making a fuss about our return like we were essentially robbing him of money, and complained that it was open.
Sealed records have their record stored in the paper sleeve facing upright so they do not fall out or cut the shrink wrap sealing he record. The record I got was warped and I couldn't have known otherwise without looking. He than complained that he can't make his money back because it was opened, which if he is selling a defective product he should be obligated to take it back, and just made the whole ordeal harder than it had to be. Eventually, his attitude was unbearable and we just pressed for a refund. His final retort towards my father was "I'm the one who's getting pimped around here"
We won't be coming back. UHF (Royal Oak), Found Sound (Ferndale), Hello Records (Detroit) and Dearborn Music (Dearborn) have better prices and selection. Avoid at all costs.
Great store. Great selection. Friendly staff. Loses star because they don't sort their 45's. Would definitely recomend this store to a friend.
Great selection of everything from vinyls to CDs to video game stuff to old collectables
I've been going to this place ever since I started buying vinyl and I'll tell you what I wouldn't go any place else they make it up for being nice and helpful even though they are a bit expensive I will definitely be going here again and definitely give this place five stars
The staff was helpful but didn't seem approachable. The selection was great considering there are not many record stores. Their pricing is all over the place and e as well but you can find some pretty good cheap stuff. Other than that, the atmosphere in here was great. I can see how people spend hours in here.
Lots of selection, and they were very patient with me, I'm new to turntables. Will be back for more vinyl soon.
Really cool store. If you're looking for records this is the place. Also have old board games, toys and action figures etc. Record players and other stereos and electronics. Worth a trip to look around.
Absolutely love coming here and flipping through their collection and adding to my own. It is such a warm and inviting place, the staff is extremely helpful and patient with anyone who has questions. It's never crowded but there is always someone inside. You can get collectables, vinyls, turn tables, and flipside merchandise. Would absolutely recommend that anyone comes here and bring a friend.
I have been going to Flipside since the early 90s. Fantastic place for unusual as well as the Staples plus collectables. Great and knowledgeable staff. Love it.
Huge selection of entertainment, for every console new and old. Great prices on used gaming systems. Super nice staff. Could use some more interesting interior decorating.
Great selection of vinyl and they also have retro video games.
Nice selections, a lot of super cheap vinyls (like scratched up $1 records by obscure artists). There was a great dog here last time i went, not sure if hes always there or just sometimes.
I had a terrible experience at this store. I will never shop here again.
The best I have got almost half of my record collection here very nice stuff!!!
Amazing place for people still into vinyl records ! They have a very large collection of reccords, cd's and cassettes !!
Lots of good stuff. The used stuff gets picked through pretty quick, so get there often.
I'm a vinyl album collector I listen to a lot of classic rock. They seem to have what I need and it's in pretty good condition and the prices are reasonable. I recently picked up two of princes albums I couldn't believe they were still there and not purchased already. Also I collect Rock memorabilia and picked up a rare find book of ACDC
Been shopping at Flipside for decades and I can still find something I want when I go there.
Great for the last 40 or so years. Miss the old man.
A generally great record shop. Like all great record shops, they offer a very diverse selection of additional pop culture ephemera beyond literal records. Plenty of nostalgia to dig through. Sort of like a weekend record or toy show except in a regular store setting. Some items can be priced a little higher than average but it's typically only new cds that are like that. The resale items seem fairly priced. They also offer a good selection of local music which is extra important in a region like Detroit's.
Great selection of LPs and CDs. However, super rude/arrogant staff, like straight out of High Fidelity ... maybe that vibe gives this place its sense of authenticity.
Owner is rude. He thinks he's awesome and likes to talk down to people. Store is not great, let down every time I have shopped here. Will not be going back.
Good selection, most priced reasonably, friendly staff.
Store is really well-organized and has great inventory. Love the puppies
Nothing has changed here in years. Stuff is still over priced and the people behind the counter are still pretentious, but now they are hipsters. Their layout is messed up also. Not laid out very well to try and find things
Flipside is a classic, funky used CD, record, and DVD shop with an eclectic mix of other music and pop culture paraphernalia. It's a good place to browse, because you never know what you'll find. The only downside is the smell of incense gives me a headache.
The best selection & condition vinyl at the best prices
Used to be a faithful customer, my boyfriend spent $600 dollars on used vinyls and got a gift recept for them for christmas, i went to return a few of them that i never opened and got nothing but attitude A D problems. We go here and drop decent money every other month, was speechless to why i was being treated like a criminal. GO TO FYE OR 2ND CHARLES THEIR PRICES ARE ALL CHEAPER.
Excellent selection and quality service. Will definitely go back many times
Absolutely fantastic, and you can get some great deals!
Great place found everything I wanted and more spent about 2 hours in there and will be going back
I found an item there I wanted to buy so I asked if the price marked was the best price? Salesman proceeded to look the item up on Ebay and said "Oh, this is worth a lot more than we are asking" and then raised the price by $30.
Totally heartbreaking. Never stepping foot in that place again.
Flipside is the first record store I fell for in Detroit although it's in Clawson. Ask for Nick, he is helpful, professional and a class act who will help you find what you're looking for. They also help support the local Detroit music scene
Very unhelpful every time I go in and they act like you're an inconvenience. I just don't get it.
I've enjoyed coming here for years. They have so much in this store from when I was a kid and beyond. I take my kids in here to show them what I had when I was young; VHS player where you had to have a separate machine to rewind the tape and game cartidges as big as their faces. I go in here sometimes by myself just to stand amongst the entertainment of yesteryear and enjoy the nostalgia. It feels like a classic record store mixed with a flea market vendor. TONS of vinyls and just about everything else you can think of that preoccupied your mind "back in the day". If you're looking for an old record, video game or just want to take a step back and remember what things were like I would suggest you stop in here.
Flipside is the most authentic, colorful record shop I've ever been to! I'll go in for a single record but can't help spending hours upon hours there! And even then, I still won't want to leave! They've got everything you need, great service, aand a truly genuine, awesome owner... It's a one of a kind gem.
Came in to sell some stuff and the old guy working was super rude. I walk in and he just stared at me waiting for me to say something to him rather than greeting me. Had an attitude like I was bothering him or something and was just rude from the second I walked in. I get it we all have our days but come on man. Safe to say i ll never go back there. Most expensive prices around anyways.
Chill spot. Has a ton of retro stuff. Great staff too.
Legendary old-school record store. Good selection of new and used vinyl, CDs, movies, toys and other cool stuff.
Unique & rare items. Fair prices. Friendly service & a super cool dog
Great record store. Shop here and keep the old school record store alive. Great selection and a fun place to shop.
If I could give this store zero stars I would. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I walked around the store for ten minutes and found a Nintendo I wanted to look at. The register is located in the back of the store, so I made my way back there and waited a few minutes for customers to clear out. When it was my turn I asked to see the Nintendo. The cashier from the store on 7/25/2016 around 5pm replies, I THINK YOU GUYS SHOULD LEAVE. For ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. I have never been so insulted in my life. My friend and I are minorities, and I am not sure if this is why we were kicked out. All I can say is that we were asked to leave for no reason, and I have never felt so degraded in my life. THANKS FLIPSIDE RECORDS for making customers feel welcome.
Very friendly. They have a nice selection of new and used vinyl.
Man, was disappointed by this place. Wasnt a bad place, but just didnt have the selection or price points as advertised in the other reviews.
Huge selection of movies, and music, knowledgeable, and friendly staff, you are treated like a visiting friend. It's a great place to shop and hang out.
If Ur looking for a good deal on anything, this is the place to shop!!
Nice selection of records and other merchandise. Friendly staff
Good selection for the prices and if they don't have it they're always willing to order it at least in my experience. As for rerelesed titles like sublime the prices are almost offensive even after record day. On a better note you can walk out of this place with some great records for almost a steal bands like Santana,ETC...the video game section will definitely satisfy your retro needs in a pinch. After your vinyl throwback shopping spree you can head right next door to noble fish and have some of the best sushi you've ever eaten. Overall I'd say it's worth your time to drop in.
Such a nice owner and the place is like stepping into the record stores of my youth.
Flipside has a great selection of vinyl and CDs. When walking in you get a nice warm welcome and numerous staff members willing to help. The owner is friendly and always willing to play a record for you. I have also noticed they have very competitive pricing. This shop is definitely worth checking out for anyone interested in music or even vintage games.
They downsized quite a bit from when I use to go there when I was younger (2000s). Good metal vinyl selection with some other cool oddities... however, things are a tad overpriced. :(
Great little record store with a good selection. They don't have a lot of used records because they are picky about what they carry, which is kind of nice so you don't buy scratched up useless record. People that are very helpful.
Not only is the selection great, but I was recently in and their Dog greeted me :) One of the staff engaged me in conversation about the dogs origins. I have been suffering with clinical drepression for about 5 years and rarely get out other then work, so it was extremely nice for him to go out of his way to talk to me it made my day. thank you
Love the owner very kind, clean, most machines work, just very hot, but it is a laundry mat after all
As an oldster, I've spent years happily wandering the aisles of record stores. Sadly, there are fewer and fewer record stores in which to wander, and the aisles at Amazon just don't offer the same experience. The owner and folks who work at Flipside don't just love listening to music, they love the whole experience - the environment, the interaction, the discovery, the shared knowledge... Flipside is what shopping for music was... and what it should be. This is a true family owned business passed from father to son, and a place we owe it to ourselves to support. And by the way, if they don't have it they'll make every effort to find it for you.
First time shopper to the Store & we'll be sure to return. Clerk answered all our questions, explained their pricing & showed us where the group's we wanted were located. Thanks again!
Great place place to buy vinyl, CDs, DVDS, Blu-rays and more. both new and used.
Quite possibly one of the worst experiences I've ever had dealing with a store!! The owner, Todd, is extremely arrogant and has one of the worse attitudes of any business owner I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. While the staff is a little better you can definitely see how Todd rubs off on those he employs. A lot of garbage at this store but you may be lucky to find a hidden gem if you try. DO NOT waste your time dealing with Todd with any sale. He gets bent out of shape easily and will actually start fighting with you! The store was handed down to him and I remember dealing with the father years ago....definitely different experience than today. Go to Warp 9 across the street for memorabilia stuff and buy your vinyl online but I definitely recommended avoiding Todd and his failing business!!
They ve got it all! Including dogs!!! Always support your local record shop!
This is a great record store and I've been to many. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. They have been there for over 30 years which means they must be doing something right. If they do not have what you're looking for they do their best to order it. Definitely worth a visit :)
Nice selection, been visiting this business since the 80's. Although the clerk at the counter was not very talkative or friendly my visit was pleasant.
Awesome place good selection..prices can get pretty high on some records but they have decent sales.
Half-baked, unclean mess of an operation that's somehow still in business after all these years.
