By far my favourite vinyl store in Richmond. Some stores may have a bigger selection, or a larger new selection, but the intimacy of Deep Groves is what sets it apart. The shop owner is amazing and will gladly discuss any music you're thinking about, while sharing the many, many stories of the shows he's seen. Prices are extremely fair, and he's willing to work out deals for trade ins, etc. The store interior itself is small, so if there are a lot of people there it can get full fast, but other than that, best vinyl shop.
Definitely hidden gym in Richmond. I found the assortment of good quality used LPS the Best in the city. Prices are reasonable and selections usually pretty darn good for such a small location. Some of the other retailers that carry vinyl in this area charge almost as much as new. I always walk into deep Groove records and walk out with a couple of good gems.
Kind people, great records, super gracious and easygoing. It s really a great shop run by good hearted people that want to help.
Tiny little shop with a big selection. Great store.
Best selection in town. Great service and staff! Jay and Chad are excellent!
Great selection, also I always find something cool in the used bin.
Great selection of rock, indie, and alternative music. Tight spot packed with old gems and new releases. If they don't have a record you're looking for, staff is happy to order it for you. They'll give you a call when it's in and hold it till you grab it. Really helpful little joint with well knowledged employees. One of my go-to record shops.
Super cool guy who just loves records! This little shop comes highly recommended. Stop in to browse the groovy selection or if you have good records to sell, bring them to him! I had an excellent trading experience here.
Great selection. Started my record collection in this store. Incredibly knowledgeable. And some really rare pieces in great to mint condition, sometimes. Well...always. but sometimes exactly what I'm looking for.
I was so excited to finally come here. Got a ton of Beatles records in great condition.
Small record shop with a great selection. The owner was super friendly and knows his stuff.
Best vinyl store I've visited. Excellent music selection and a very knowledgeable staff!
Without a doubt the best record store you will ever set foot in. Unbelievable staff always willing to chat and advise and a comfortable environment to browse. Love this place.
I'm so happy I found this place. Got some really great finds, and the owner is one of the nicest people and went out of his way to help me find a record iv been looking for. I have alot of record shops that I love going to when visiting Richmond, but this one is my new favorite.
This place is awesome. I always leave with 2-3 new records.
One of the City's best kept secrets ... a chest of treasures.
Definitely the best place to get vinyl in Richmond. Staff are always helpful and the newest and most eclectic vinyl is available!
My son brought some old records in that he wasn't interested in to sell. They went through them and bought most of them. They gave him a fair price. The remaining albums they offered to put into a charity. The guys were great and Fred the Bassett hound that popped in was a wonderful touch! Had fun too!
Good store. Nice selection of new with some used also. Got a great deal on a RSD release. Only comment is about the strong smell of what I think was incense. I hope this is viewed as a constructive comment. I didn t want to be rude but thought you might want the feedback. The guy in there couldn t have been more friendly.
Almost always have what I'm looking for new or are happy to order it if not. Some used gems as well. Very knowledgeable staff. Ignore the 1 star review.
Really nice selection, not overwhelming and good prices. A true vibe.
Very nice store compared to competitors. The man behind the register was very helpful and we even had a joke or two. I don't have any pictures of the store but it gives you a "hole in the wall" type of feel. I personally love stores like this. They had a great selection of records but unfortunately I'm into newer music so they didn't have much of my type. Great store overall
Great selection, more then fair on their prices. Super helpful, was looking for a crate to be part of a gift and he went to the back and found me one, just service above and beyond. I will be going back here often.
Another great record shop in town, the owner has some interesting music memorabilia
This was the first and only shop I went to in search of records, so I can't speak for others in the area, but this place is so awesome! Please do not let the size fool you ... there is such a wide selection here, and such a great atmosphere. I was smiling the entire time, and have never felt more warm in my life. And Jay is such a cool guy ... he greeted my friend and I, and offered his help to us as soon as we came in. He asked us our names, which seems so small, but as a first-time customer, it makes you feel good, ya know? He gave me advice on starting my own record collection, and told us a cool story about Led Zeppelin and his granddaughter. I do appreciate good stories, and Jay just seems like the kind of guy who's full of good stories. Who doesn't like a guy like that? Oh ... and you get a free magnet and sticker with your purchase. In short, I like this record store. Go there.
Don't hesitate to buy from Deep Groove. Great selection and good prices. Jay knows his stuff!
I thought it was kinda small but when I started looking around the selection was awesome. So many records I wish I owned. A man named Jay helped me find everything I was looking for and was very knowledgeable of their selection and more. Definitely going back.
Needed a place that would buy my vinyl LP collection from the 60 s, 70, 80 s. I called a few places in the region and decided to take them to Deep Groove Records for an estimate. The estimate turned into a VERY fair, reasonable offer and transaction. I didn t need to get a second opinion from other shops as Jay (the owner) was extremely knowledgeable of the records, had an impressive, methodical, detailed and expeditious process to value the collection and present an offer. If you are looking to sell your LP collection from yesterday-year, don t hesitate to contact Jay at Deep Groove Records. This guy knows what he is doing and I don t believe one can get a more fair deal than what Jay will provide. Thank you Deep Groove Records and Jay! A great experience!!
Deep groove is definitely in my top 5 record stores. Jay and Chris make it a point to make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. There selection has just about everything from rock to jazz. If you can't find something in store just ask and they will order it for you. when it comes to price you can spend any were from $1 to $35 on an album depending on the quality and the demand, witch I feel is a fair price. I will continue to shop at Deep Groove so long as they keep doing what they're doing.
A must for record lovers! Bargain used, new and collectors stuff.
Legendary local record spot- you've probably seen their bumper stickers adorning the battered bumpers of many a VCU student if you're in the Fan often. Knowledgeable staff with incredible taste- there's always something different and amazing playing when you walk in. Stock is the same way- you might not find exactly what you're looking for but you're guaranteed to find something interesting. The owner is also very selective with used records so you don't have to wade through a ton of junk like you do at most places with cheap used bins.
Great selection, very approachable owner, the prices are just as good if not sometimes better than anywhere else. You can always tell that those who work there take great interest in the customer.
This store will make you feel whole. Pure record store with a great selection!!
I travel a lot and visit record shops in cities all over the US. Deep Groove is the kind of place you HOPE to find when vinyl shopping. The quality of vinyl overall was very good and the prices were also good. This is the experience vinyl enthusiasts are supposed to have when shopping. The gentleman behind the counter was knowledgeable and helpful. The store had a great vibe. I will be back in the area in 2 weeks and can t wait to stop in again.
Great place to browse if you are a music lover or vinyl addict or just want to chill, small store can get packed though.
Absolutely fantastic, pure record store. ( vinyl-only ). Knowledgeable and helpful employees and owner, and fair pricing. Surprisingly good selection in a small space. Lots of rare stuff and constant turnover. Check it out if you're in the city and own a record player.
Awesome place! Truly one of the last of its kind The owner is upfront honest and loves his store. No hipster vibe just a true passion for vinyl
Absolute fave store n RVA. Staff is superb & great selection.
A small shop, but with a great selection, good prices and a friendly, conversational owner. One of my favorite spots in Richmond
Nice local record shop with a focus on mostly rock records. Lots of new stock, and a decent selection of used. Some jazz gems too.
Very cool local record store. Lots of personality and a very welcoming staff.
My favorite store between North Carolina and Virginia. Chris is awesome! Walk out with a stack of records every time I visit. Still waiting for that Floyd!!
One of Richmond's best record stores. New vinyl releases as well as a great finds in used records. It's a small store with limited selection, but definitely worth stopping in!
Terrible. Astronomical prices. Everything you don't want. The owner, or whoever he was, didn't seem interested enough to talk to me. So, I took my business elsewhere. lol.
Small fan-area shop with great selection and reasonably priced records. Representative was knowledgeable and pleasant - Highly recommend visiting.
Had some old records that I wanted to sell and they gave me a great deal on them
New and used vinyl. Have some $1 records to sift through for list treasures. Large New collection of rock. Jazz is second largest, and international. Also have a large used section. Some other genres may need to be found at a different store, but I love searching the used records here.
Wide range of both popular and relatively obscure titles. Although I am a big fan of metal music (Vinyl Conflict is a great place for that) the selection here was nothing to scoff at. If I'm not looking for a punk or metal vinyl, I'll certainly be coming here first.
Pick up some Blue Magic and Ohio Players vinyls for my father. He was amazed at how they were all in great shape especially the Ohio Players "Fire" album. Great store.
We both had a very precise list of what we were looking for, and not much time. Deep Groove did not disappoint: fair prices, good selection, interesting conversation, and store effects. Will make a point to stop in when I visit Richnind again!
Loved shopping here. Found a bunch of great albums. Very chill place. Good prices.
Very cozy atmosphere and the man who runs this place is a cool fella
Awesome little shop. Nice people working there and some really good used records. Even more modern albums is included in their used stuff - found an old favorite that I would have never thought to seek out but seeing it and picking up has taken me back in time a few years. (Mr. Twin Sister, the album In Heaven.)
My favorite Richmond record store, possibly the best $1 and $2 bins I ve ever seen! Excellent selection of both new and used records and the owner is exceptionally cool.
Great place for the vinyl! Killer classic rock selections and informative staff! Trade-ins welcomed!
Best record shop in RVA. Smaller selection, but very concentrated.
I still have not been back in many years after not being able to return a bad pressing of the Antler's Hospice.
Great spot. Fair prices. Records are always in great condition too, lots of sealed ones available as well.
great selection and great service. these guys are GRRREAT!!
Great selection of albums. Highly enjoyable music being played in the store. Cool Posters. Friendly service. Would highly recommend!!
Best record store in RVA, especially if you like jazz. They are super friendly and passionate about vinyl to the extreme.
Awesome and Knowledgeable Staff. We love our weekly record store day visit. Highlight of our week
All vinyl, sick stacks, it is very hard not to drop serious cash here.
great selection and customer service, always has a good vibe about it.
I walked in for the first time and the older man running the store said I must be new because he didn't recognize me, then asked for my name. I felt so welcome there. Bought 4 records and he even showed me some old tickets from the bands I was buying! The man that runs this store obviously has a passion for it, and he made me feel very welcome. Will be visiting again soon!
Of the many $7 and under records i bought today, all are at least VG with plenty of near mint. Very nice to bring home several $2-3 records that cleaned up to NM. Lots of brand new records as well, but the used bins have a lot of great quality vinyl.
Great spot to browse used records. High quality vinyl and good selection
This was a great shop. Great selection and prices. The owner was very friendly.
I absolutely Love Deep Groove records. One of the Best record stores I have been to and I have been coming here for years.Jay and Tracy are awesome.
I love this record store. Constantly changing stock, reasonable prices, best staff, and a good selection without being overwhelming. Easy street parking, consistent hours and they are willing to make orders for you. The store t-shirt is a great Richmond memento. No bathroom.
Super friendly. Great New and used selection. Never had a problem, even with the $1.00 bargain albums I picked. They've all played great. Love this gem!
Let me say something about this place, the gentleman that works there is extremely knowledgeable and very sweet. He sold me a Dual 606, my first turntable. I just got into record playing and I'm VERY glad I didn't order any of the new turn tables on Amazon because what he sold me works flawlessly and I assume it will for many years to come.
Deep Groove is one of those hidden Richmond gems. It is small and the website needs work but the shoppe has a very cool vibe and very helpful owner and staff. I simply do not know where the reviewer who said "white trash attitude" is coming from . I can only imagine he works for the competition. The other "1star" reviewer should be ignored as well [the one hiding behind the picture of smoking Obama} Jay, the owner, has a wealth of knowledge and offers it freely to help you choose when buying something new as he did the last time I was there and bought my now favorite Nina Simone Baltimore album.. On my next trip his suggestion of one of his must haves, Miles Davis " Kind of Blue" fills my house with deliciousness ... Something sensuous about vinyl and its warm sound.....something about albumn covers that help you connect to the artist....something about that crackle when you put the needle down. Thanks for being there Jay. ' So happy my sons' and daughter's generation is also having their experience with vinyl and Deep Groove has a good selection of new music on vinyl. Cynthia from Carytown Optical
Best record store in richmond easily. The owner clearly works very hard to maintain an atomosphere and selection that will appeal to nearly everyone. Its a friendly store that welcomes newcomers and collectors alike. If youre interested in jumping into the world of vinly, start here.
I came here straight after going to plan 9, and even though plan 9 has more overall records, the selection here is much better. I found an original of 2112 and I almost cried. I will be coming here instead of plan 9, it's just more personal.
Awesome store. Had exactly what I was looking for and more. Owner was very friendly and knowledgeable on selection. Will be coming back whenever I want to buy some new records.
