Some work going on and air-conditioning not working everywhere. Toilets are dirty and shops are way to expensive for the Portuguese average. Food can also be improved given the high Portuguese food standard.
Still busy with renovations. Smooth handling on the return trip. It is getting more beautiful.

Quiet because if quarantine rules, July and Aug 2020. This is old Albufeira on its busiest Saturday of the year. The Airport is excellent as always.
After check in, I tried explaining the situation to one of the myway agents regarding assistance, but was rudely dismissed, despite showing them my son's important flyer badge, when we proceeded to security, I asked one of the officers if he could open the fast track lane, and showed him the important flyer badge, but was again refused, thankfully another officer opened the fast track lane for us, having seen our distress.
If that wasn't bad enough, our flight was delayed by an hour, and we received no information from anybody regarding the flight.
This airport has put me and my family off from ever visiting the Algarve ever again.
Poor AC, most security and passport lines closed despite tourist season.
Despite the fact that Faro is not so big, it s airport is really good. Big, spacious, clean and beautiful. X-ray lines are fast, boarding gates have a room for waiting with water machines and bathrooms. WiFi works and is really fast!
After the renovations it had, it was much better, although it can still get better, since it is an international airport and located in the capital of the Algarve region, which is a reference point in tourism, it receives many tourists mainly in the summer, due to its climate, beaches and their cuisine, and the people of the Algarve who are welcoming people.
Faro Airport, awful attitude towards those with Autism
What an awful experience my poor son has had, I do not recommend Faro airport for autistic/Sensory difficulty flyers at all. We asked for some support at the help desk explaining to the woman working about my son's difficulties, she shrugged at me and said "and?" as if his needs were insignificant. The airports staff are extremely slow which means lots of queues for every part of the checking in/departing process of the airport. Again, asking for assistance is met with an ignorant attitude. Once we got to the departure gates and explained once again about our sons needs. The check in worker said that's fine and we can put him on first, she told us to sit and wait and she'd call us. Did this happen? Nope. A message went out telling all passengers to be considerate of those with needs and young children boarding the plane.Meaning everyone just steam boats it through the boarding gates, trying to get on first and no specialist boarding was given.
Our departure gate had to be accessed by walking through an extremely busy shopping area. So loads of different smells, really bright lights, crowds of people going in all directions. Which is a recipe for a sensory overload; my son really struggled with waking through there. I've was left wanting to cry for him as he was left in tears multiple times.

This is a small airport and I travelled at 11am. I had to wait only 5 minutes or so for check in, and the same for security. Everything was way faster then expected.
There are 2 gates a and b with numbers in each. Once you go through passport control by a or b the area to sit is in some ways smaller.
If you're buying water do it in the machine just after security for it costs 1 euro and in the other machines later on it is 2 or more.

The Airport is currently under major redevelopment a far cry from.when we first arrived 16+ years ago, although that to was really nice. The food court and Duty free area is competitive and certainly not as expensive as some people make out .As for other facilities such as smoking areas cant understand what the problem is it's a pretty standard thing that public facilities such as bars clubs and airports shops etc do not allow people to smoke in public areas and have designated areas for smokers. The staff are as courteous to you as you are to them I've always found them very helpful and look forward to returning very soon

Bad signposting, no information when check in starts because the flight was delayed. Incredibly unfriendly woman at check in. She opened the third counter, but picked up the passengers only from the middle queue in front of counter 2. Passengers came constantly, she unfriendly rejected. On the simple objection that no one understands, she reacted with unbelievable arrogance. Incidentally, we were the first to be served by her, so there is no personal frustration behind it. Too bad that there are no zero points.
Slowest bag drop ever (BA), followed by drawn out security check (but can't really complain about security), not all of the scanners were working though.
Through the second passport check and a 50 minute wait to be served a (warm) bottle of water and a milkshake type thing from Costa for the kids, basically 2 1/2 hours in a queue to get on a (delayed) plane. Literally the 1980 s.
It s not a big airport but enough for international flights. My check-in was easy and i could find boarding gates easily. There are a lot of shops and restaurants in the Faro Airport. I had a breakfast in Soho, it was nice. I highly recommended mushroom egg burger over there.
Got better at last. There is now enough space and a generous shopping area. The waiting areas are upgraded. Rental cars can be found directly opposite in the parking lot. Petrol station at the roundabout in front of the driveway. Everything is well signposted. Of course, there is not much going on at the moment due to COVID-19.
all that should have a provincial airport when arriving on a vacation with an obligatory resort under a coconut palm outside, when you are waiting for the plane :)
Slow ineffective queuing system at security, rude power hungry staff forcing people at random to rejoin the queue for absolutely no reason.

Once at the gate A has no access to the duty free gate B for UK which looks much better provided.
In addition, my companion's belt was lost during check-in ...
Anyway, go there as late as possible and enjoy Faro.
There is many restaurant where you can't get acces only if you are travelling to UK or Ireland. There is no information about it. I asked outside if there is the one I was looking for. They said after security check. It is true. But if you are travelling other palaces you have limited option to eat. Not happy. If I know I would eat before I came in.
Nice, well-kept airport, but with fairly few shops, and the terminal itself is quite small. Has recently been refurbished so it looks modern.
Grown larger over the years but still pretty quick to get straight off your plane and out to your car. Check-in online and only take hand luggage if you're a regular visitor and you can be through and boarding your plane before you know it.

Construction site for over 2 years, very bad and warm air in the building, very confusing (can be due to the construction sites). The usual food offer (Subway, Burger King, ...) unfortunately very overpriced. Sanitary facilities often dirty and dirty!
Ok airport despite too much building work going on. However the bad thing is the "prison style" metal toilets. Never seen metal toilets prior to this except in "prison break".

Unfortunately a person wanting to go to the shops, for example a victoria secret but can not, has no right of access because the duty free part of the "reserved" only for the flights that are to the countries outside the European union. So we have access to a duty free with almost nothing to say nothing. Too unfair
The best view airport when you are landing, the staff is always very helpful nd in a good mood but when you are going to the boarding gate there are not much place to sit so wait to go there when it's open or prepare to sit in the floor.

Very easy to navigate, but one massive downside. There are little to no food options for European destinations once past security. All options for food are only available to UK & Ireland. What is available for other European destinations is overpriced and low quality even by airport standards.
So easy to get through, especially at the moment with Covid but also safe with distance been kept.

They don't have respect to the passengers at all.We have to wait one hour in a narrow corridor.There was 30 Celsius degrees and no chairs.Additionally the wall was new painted and there smelled the paint.

Very efficient airport staff excellent British airports could learn a lot from here.
Avoid if possible it's the worst. I arrived 1 hour before my flight and the security check were so slow and disorganized that I had to run like a crazy person to reach my gate before the gate closed. Never again!
Terrible experience - renovations going on so the airport is a shambles. Eat before going through to departures as it's an absolute mess.

The second airport that I visit most since I went to Switzerland. All kinds of services available even though it is not excessively large.
No a/c, no order, everything is a big sticky hot mess.
Watch out for the thieves in baggage handling. Like to help themselves from your suitcase!!! Cheers again guys for a terrific end to our holidays - hope you enjoy
With all the necessary airport, little one, clean bathrooms, a few small shops inside, enough to stop for a couple of hours, no more, otherwise you will go to sleep

When departing to Poland, it is worth coming sooner, because the road to the gate is quite long.
Small beautiful airport. Clean and clear. Man finds everything right away, even if you can not speak Portuguese.

Very poor airport in terms of customer service and catering facilities charging extortionate prices for poor quality food. Prosegur security staff are frustrated individuals that find themselves with a little power and decide to play God - incredibly rude security staff.
Only passengers flying to non-Schengen destinations have access to the full food court with well known catering outlets like Burger King, Subway etc. Otherwise you are stuck with a small outlet selling pizza slices and sandwiches for exorbitant prices.
If at all possible avoid Faro Airport.

Conveniently located near Faro Beach, Faro International Airport is modern and clean. A very good welcome!
Sh*thouse airport too warm but still charges 3.70 for a bottle of water. Ruined a good holiday.
Quite the dreadful place - very small with few and extremely pricy places to eat, and awful airport service. The information point was empty, and the tourist office did not have much of a clue.
