No, you won't have air conditioning. But man, is it convenient to fly into JRO and be so close to Kili and Arusha to start safari. Be sure to immediately go inside and fill out the form (one per person) for immigration. Then get in the correct line (if you got a Tanzanian visa prior to traveling, you get under the "I Already Have a Visa" sign). A German family in front of us did not understand that and wanted to purchase a visa on site; you can do that, but in a different line. Read the signs and you will not get delayed. They will scan your bags as you leave (not sure why) and your driver will be waiting outside.
Laaaaang queue at health check and visa, but otherwise a nice little airport.
East Africa Safari allows you to discover the best of Tanzania taking in the whole of the Serengeti regions which are home to some of the greatest concentrations of wildlife on Earth with millions of plains game, thousands of predators such as Lion and majestic Elephant. Tanzania Wildcats safaris, we are here to show you what Tanzania has to offer.
My self and my friend went to Kilimanjaro from arusha to catch the flight to Nairobi in the year 2011.we had a nice stay in arusha for 3 days, we visited some villages in and around arusha with our local friend Benjamin for dairy development works . we did small shopping from the airport duty free shops, we had a nice Precision airlines flight to Nairobi, they served us with Kilimanjaro beer , over all very nice experience,
Nice little friendly airport. Only bad bus connections only taxi
The airport situated between Moshi and Arusha, approximately 50 km from Arusha and approximately 40 km from Moshi.
Rather small but nice airport, with WiFi connection and a few shops.
Simple and humble international airport ... easy to move ...
Being the entry point for the majority of tourists in Tanzania, this is the classic example of poor maintenance and organization in East Africa.
No money are invested to accommodate properly the visitors and efficiency is at its lowest.
Don't rely on taxis at the arrivals, they charge a stupid amount of money compared to how it should be.
They made me (I'm 12) stay up all night waiting for a plane.
KIA is too modest for an international airport on a busy day
Simple airport.. clean toilets.. if you are flying domestic..don't expect too much.. simple cafe once through security.. if you want food, I suggest go to the outdoor cafe next to the petrol station near the entry.. cold beer and good food..
Good airport with facilities for measures against covid-19
In reconstruction, water dripping from floor everywhere, cramped, feels like 70's. Very unhelpful staff at baggage check in. WiFi not working. One stand with questionable food after security.
Is the gateway Airport to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, and nearest to hotels in Moshi and Arusha Safari city.
I loved this place be cause
I was Born here.
Thank's.
No place for the guest to rest while they are waiting for their host.
Those who control Tv which shows flight time are not serious
Very annoying situation at the counter. It took more then an hour to get the tickets. Nobody was talking to us, lady was unfriendly, even took other local people before us. Myself, my wife and my 4 kids felt really unfair treated.
Nice little airport. Please make sure you bring your yellow fever card or they will not let you in!!!
Worst airport experience. Arrived early, which never happens in Africa, and they make you wait in the heat while the AC waiting room is empty with ample seating. You have two security checks which depending on who you get the rules will change and they freak out if you have someone with a wheelchair. Terrible airport and terrible service people.
Small airport, u need to walk to board the flight. The view over Kilimanjaro hill, while flying, is simply amazing ....
Great Airport located in the Amazing area very clearly and clean. With Good view of Mount Kilimanjaro.
This airport is a beauty! Its clean with great customer care but the cues @ check in is wanting. We stood for a long time but the atmosphere is nice and the view is great. A nice view of mount Kilimanjaro from the airport but an epic view of the mount on board the air plane
It is about the same size as a rest station in Taiwan, but Africa should not pay attention to so much. Before passing the customs, it is necessary to fill in an unclear entry application form. Note: If luggage inspection is difficult, you may have to pay a little money to clear it. Welcome to Africaww
A small airport serving thousands of tourists visiting beautiful Tanzania at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro! Getting off the plane, you walk straight to the airport lounges! Arriving at the first queue to get in, after checking your passport and yellow vaccination form! The second queue is for the visa, at $ 50! The pace is slow, pole pole, it's the first thing you learn here! You take the suitcases and Tanzania is waiting for you green and huge !!
A small airport with a local feel. There is a security check at the airport. There were no airline counters, no toilets and no cafes, so I was free.
Very small but incredibly relaxed airport. Lovely views of landscaped gardens, more than enough seating areas and fast WiFi. The staff are friendly and laid back. This felt very much like travelling might have been 30-40 years ago -- none of the dehumanisation you experience in big airports.
Food selection is not very good, but there is a nice restaurant that overlooks the garden.
Convinient small town ,international airport. Links Arusha to the rest of Tz and the world !
arrivals was hot and not so pretty, departure surprised us how nice it was, night and day difference
Try to find a customer service number or any number that works... You won't. Lose a bag, flight issues... Your screwed. Check the kili airport website and find two number that won't work and if they do they have only ever hung up on me moments later.
Airport is fine, no wifi though.
Security control does not exist there, people are passing through the security check with liquids inside their bags and electronic devices in their pockets. It is a matter of time until something bad happens there....
If you want to use the toilet you have to go through the security gates with your ticket (there are no toilets outside). Same thing if you have to buy any kind of drinks.
On the positive side it is kept really clean.
Small terminal, kind staff, fast check in, fast security.
Less crowded du to the pandemic, but remained a very comfortable for passengers.
Small international airport I ever see I may say in my travel experience. Great service. Airport staff always do their best to make operation smooth but the big challenge is when the big airlines like KLM, Swiss arrives the venue is very very crowded and looks smallest because majority are tourists. TCAA really needs to consider to expand the airport to make the work easily because Kilimanjaro & Zanzibar are the top tourist destinations in Tanzania.
The airport is clean, and the rest rooms are clean as well. The time through passport control can improve. Waiting time at carousel can improve. Sometimes the airport can became busy. You know where to go to, because the directions is clearly marked. Personnel at the airport were helpful.
The staff leave alot to be desired and are rediculus power hungry people who literally stripped me down to my under garments. The place seemed clean E ough and the rest rooms averagely so. The small food court was OK but the food was waaay over priced even for airport standards. The need to invest in a small bake oven, not all things should be microwaved.
It's cool. The birds, the trees, snakes and other living organisms. Awesome.
General confusion on where and what to do. Still better than Latvia airport. Staff here are friendly
A very tiny airport.
I was only there passing so I didn't go inside.
Very nice atmosphere, but too long waiting time for official services to take off on time.
Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) (IATA: JRO, ICAO: HTKJ) is an international airport in northern Tanzania that serves the cities of Arusha and Moshi. The airport serves regional flights as well as a few long-haul services due to its importance as a leisure destination. Kilimanjaro Airport opened on 2 December 1971 and cost US$13 million to build. The construction was financed by a long term loan from the Italian government. In 1998, it became the first international airport in Africa to be privatised and is operated by the Kilimanjaro Airport Development Company. The airport facilitates the tourism industry for visitors travelling to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti National Park, and elsewhere. The airport bills itself as the "Gateway to Africa's Wildlife Heritage
A very conducive Aviation environment. I love the ambulance and ecstatics. Tanzania Rock!
Small airport with friendly and helpful staff. We were in the gate for national flights. There is a bar in the waiting area where you can order food and drinks. We ordered sausages, half avocado and a burger with fries. The food was not so good but still better than expected.
Wifi was available.
worst in east africa
immigration procedure takes 70min of queing ...
Good and cute Airport to access northern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the famous Serengeti National Park in Tanazania. Immigration is quick. On arrival visa is available for many countries including India. I added here the visa application form which one needs to fill up in the airport before proceeding to the immigration. Actually, I need to mention that, you need to ask the government personnels to give you the visa forms. Please fill up a draft copy for each member and keep it handy, so that, you can quickly grab the actual visa forms on arrival and fill those up with the help of your drafts. This helps in avoiding the long queue. You need to pay visa fees by cash US Dollar. For Indians visa fees on arrival is US$50 per person. They take fingerprints for all ten fingers. Toilets are okey! However while returning back from Kilimanjaro, I had to rush to another floor for toilet, as there was no toilet in the ground floor. Overall good!
Very nice place and beautiful to, good service out there for local and international
The airport is very clean and good spot for foreigners who come for tourism purpose, staff are very friendly and transport is available to different areas.
It was a fairly well-maintained airport.
I was glad that I could buy a lot of souvenirs on my way home
The long immigration examination is a bottleneck, isn't it?
Like many small african airports, there is not a lot going on at Kili Airport. However, the buildings are quite nice from the outside and there are a lot of nice green bushes and exotic birds. The staff are also pretty helpful!
we landed the airport but we were unable to see the real outside environment appearance....However ts the nearest airport for majority guests who are visiting Arusha as the harbour of Tourism in Tanzania Mainland...
Good airport.
Organized (if you have your Visa ahead of time.)
I highly recommend you get a visa before leaving your home country. It took well over an hour for one of my friends to get his visa after we landed. You can get your visa before you leave home or spend over an hour here. It's up to you.
Timely arrival and depature services, no much husling
This airport is among the best airport in Tanzania. The airport is a gateway for most tourism attractions which includes National parks, game reserves and the Kilimanjaro Mountain .
Arrivals are disorganized and chaotic. Kept on being moved to a new line without reason. On departure everything is crowded, disorganized and slow. You also have to go through security from restaurant/lounge area to get to gates which is a headache. Good news is the airport exists which makes getting to Kilimanjaro easier, but not a pleasant place. We also left late because it took so long for everyone to get checked in. They'll tell you to board super early but you really don't need to.
Small local airport with only a handful of flights a day.
On arrival it was very clear what to do and it took us about an hour to get out of the plane, get visas, go through customs, pick up our luggage and leave the building. Faster than JFK or LAX.
Departures have a few grossly overpriced shops and cafes. The restrooms are clean. WiFi is not perfect, but good enough to flick through the news (in fact I am using it now).
The queue at airport is not very long .service rate is adequate .
Small but modern airport. Much better than expected. On departure the toilets are after immigration check but they will allow you to go past, just let them you know you are looking for the toilets. On arrival, queues can be long. A tip, if you're from a visa free country use lanes 5 & 6
Just pretty, clean and very beautiful. A pleasant airport for tourists.
Small airport in Tanzania, officially I have not left because I got off too early because I did not know that I have a stopover. 50 for visa lost because no one has checked by the airline if I am allowed to get out there.
Very clean and currently also well organized but with the growing numbers of tourists and travellers through this part of the country can sometimes be quite busy + long queues.
Great alternative to flying in/out of Dar airport, plus much closer to the major national parks.
Lots of big airlines also pass through KIA.
Very scenic.
