Unsafe, uncaring, & unsympathetic. Unprofessional, illegal goings-on starting with confiscating personal property & personal valuables. The staff caused me VERY VERY much undue stress& upset which ruined & wasted VERY MUCH of my recovery. I was inpatient purely for psychiatric care, & left in tears upon finding my "valuables bag" opened yet again, which contained my smartphone, my insurance & access cards , & my keys.

Very disturbing place. Do not allow incoming phone calls at all. Fortunately patient had an FBI agent in family. Patients do not see psychological councilors. They're not treated for food poisoning. Came out with pneumonia. Very dangerous facility.
Reading these reviews makes me sad. The workers there are overworked, underpaid, and still somehow find the strength to go to work everyday. Seeing these reviews makes me even more aware of that fact.
So many people at this hospital just don't like the fact that they are there. A lot think they have no issues at all, and many only focus on when they get out, rather than why they are there. I attempted suicide and was admitted, and KNEW I needed help, even if I knew it wasn't going to be super pleasant.
Just keep in mind that the reviews here may all be subjective, and humans tend to review a site more when they hate something than when they love it. So I want to speak out and say that I stayed present and took all the help I could get at Fairmount, and thank them for giving me the hope I need to continue living.
Please do not send your family or yourself here if you have a choice. This is not a reliable place to seek mental health treatment or asylum, it is a disturbingly mismanaged and traumatizing place. The doctors, nurses and all staff do not communicate with one another and it led to a very confusing and frustrating and overall traumatizing stay during a mental health crisis. They don t make eye contact when asking any personal questions like how are you doing (if they even ask) and they just take notes and get you out of the room as fast as possible. My social worker Nelson was dismissive, belittling, and claimed to have met with me every day but I saw him once on the last of my 5 day stay. I was injected with a tranquilizer twice against my will for crying too much and causing a disturbance. I was not offered consent forms for medication, treatment, or anything until my discharge date. My family was not able to have any information about my treatment even though I expressly signed forms for them to be given information about my treatment. They do not run the programs they claim to. I was not told the medications I would be taking, and if I refused or questioned my medication it prolonged my stay. Some of the staff are kind and warm, but only about 5%, it s really luck if the draw. People are dirty, hungry, confused, and lonely here. Visitors are not allowed, the rules change every shift depending on what the staff feels like doing for patients. The days went like this: vitals taken at 6:00 am, visual location check every 15 minutes 24 hours a day by staff with no conversation or check in, medication at 8:00, breakfast at 8, maybe a group at 11:00 where we talked about what gratitude means like we were children with no intellect, lunch at 12, quiet time , maybe another group if they felt like it, medication, dinner at 5:30, medication, quiet time, and lights out. It was so lonely and heartless. I met with a therapist once for 15 minutes, who I will say was incredible and kind (her name was Cory) but only once?! It really felt like I was just being held, medicated, and passed along through horribly managed groups that they claimed were therapy. I have been to multiple inpatient programs, and this was by far the worst. Please do not send your family here if you have the choice.
If I could give this place ZERO stars I would! I had a family member who came here for help and didn t receive ANY HELP! The staff are unprofessional and the doctors are even worse. They lose personal belongings and it takes at least 10 phone calls to actually get a hold of someone and when you do get a hold of them there is nothing but attitude. They leave patients dehydrated, gross food and group therapy is a joke. This place is like a prison and has failed MANY people who go there seeking mental help. I don t understand how they are still open. Please if you re thinking of going here or are seeking for a place for a loved one or friend to get help DO NOT GO HERE!
I ve been here when I was 12 and the staff were nice I remember one staff member who was super nice and the kids there are cool too i learned how to play poker and chess and remember the good kids there
This place should have been shut down years ago. My daughter was admitted when she was 11, CHOP recommended it because she needed to be diagnosed. The very first day she was there she was jumped by four girls, it was like a jail for bad kids instead of being a place to help kids with mental issues. When I signed her in I wrote on every page of the 50 page document that I had to sign that they were under no circumstances to give her needles to put her unconscious and they did it several times during her stay. They also put her on extremely high doses of depakote and Seroquel, which were never tested on children. One of the Capria or something advised me to just give up on her and admit her to a residential facility. Absolute nightmare!! Thank God I put her in another place and got her the right meds and help and she's doing great now.
If I could give this place zero stars I will. My son called me and said he s being bullied by not only the staff, but the kids as well. He s been there 5 days and not one call from the doctors and the nurse called me a liar when my son called me saying all the ways he wants to die. I have left about 10 messages today to have SOMEONE call me. Apparently there isn t a single supervisor or patient advocate after 4:30. They won t let me see him on video because it has to go through the social worker. The social worker has yet to call me. They took him off all of his meds, but they are not giving him anything to ease his depression or anxiety. I m 3 hours away and the nurse Shannon doesn t even have enough respect to learn how to pronounce his last name. How is this this place even allowed to operate?!?
Food was ok. Always thirsty was in there March 2021 messed my knee up asked to see a doctor there was no doctor or they thought I was faking I have to have surgery dr Neil Cohn worst physiatrist I ever dealt with sat in my detox room for 2 days with my messed up knee thank god for my father picking me up I signed myself out of that deplorable place. No smoking allowed first thing literally I see when I look out the window of my detox room a patient smoking enforce the rules or just let them smoke
My son stayed on the ABC pods for alcohol withdrawal as a 201 and on N2 a few months ago as a 302.. he called me every day to keep me updated on how his treatment was going. From what he has said the nurses are incompetent and don't know anything about their own units. My son has diabetes and the nurse took HOURS upon HOURS to give him his insulin. This is UNACCEPTABLE! The techs pretty much run the unit but a lot of them are very rude. Ms Beth kept him feeling comfortable with resources to keep him busy and calm throughout the stay. A staff member Joshua worked with him both occasions as 201 and 302 made sure he was safe going above & beyond to ensure he was okay. The advice this staff member gave in group therapy meetings helped him a lot after discharge with my son's outlook on school, work and goals. I would recommend this place to others but you have to be careful of which staff members and nurses will be working. If you don't have a good team what is the point? the patients will not receive good care. I am fortunate my son was around quality workers for the majority of his time at fbhs.
