Too many people in Corona time. We stood in line without for a relatively long time and at a good distance, but inside it went completely wrong. There was alcohol in many places, but there are really no rules for how many there may be per. room. We stood like herring in a barrel in the small cells and it was a really unpleasant experience. It would have been nice if it had been determined - from the museum's side, how many guests there should be in the individual rooms. I understand well the place should make as much money as possible, but this was simply indefensible. A real rehearsal experience ....

When do you get the opportunity to see the inside ...

When do you get the opportunity to see the inside of a normal state prison if you are not a prisoner, guard or family member of a prisoner - just to visit? Here in Horsens State Prison, called "Slottet" (the castle), you get a deep impression of the punishment system and culture of punishment in Denmark's history. Great museum - hurry to visit as it was not planned as a museum. From hotel renovation to demolition, everything is possible at any time. So let's go, as long as you can!

Exciting place. Now I was there for a huge flea market with my mother. It was good that she was known. There was no one to assign parking spaces, so it was a bit of a case that we found a large field you had to park at behind the prison. There were many people. And that was not thought of in the dining table. We queued for 15 min just to order and afterwards queued 30 mins before being handed over what we had ordered !!! There were two to serve everyone !! Otherwise it was exciting and I also saw a part of the prison museum. But it needs a whole day for it only.

A fine experience that I would like to recommend. At the start, you are encouraged to take a "prisoner or staff ID card", which you can scan and thus follow the ID around the prison and open up for various experiences. My description of the maps will make good sense when you start your trip. I would recommend that you take a lot of different cards - preferably one of each ID. I wish we had done that, because several times we were standing at an info place that we could not start because we did not have more cards than we had been asked to. We felt it was a disappointment that exciting info passed our nose - just because we did not have the ID card in question.
Plus: Interesting experience that gives a good sense of ancient times in prison.
Minus:
-When the museum thinks it's fun with ID cards, the audience at the entrance should be made aware that if you want it all, you have to take a whole bunch of ID cards.
- Lack of info for parking spaces.
-You have to be fresh to walk up a really long staircase from the parking lot to the museum.

Worth a visit. Getting a lot of history from the beginning to the closed. History of the prisoners the German and the West Indian islands and the others very interesting. Seeing the place where the breakaway king dug himself into freedom he got 6 days out. When you get in there you start in the lock which you choose a card with a prison name on. The name you meet around the prison so scans this and there comes the story about the prisoner what the prisoner made here etc. #interessant

Super exciting museum, a lot is still the same as when it was really a prison. The 18-meter-long passage that a prisoner dug with a spoon to escape is still preserved. There is a star deduction because the labels are not translated very consistently in English.

Uncomfortable but exciting atmosphere. Here I met in 78 to 80 many criminals of different categories ranging from chicken thieves to murderers. The exhibition is very exciting and definitely worth a visit. I even figure on one of the suspended pictures with the employees of the time.

Be here in connection with their Christmas market, which can be highly recommended - and wear warm clothes, as most things happen outside.
The museum itself and a guided tour can also be recommended, it gives a good, and sometimes appalling, insight into how everyday life has been in a prison, where those who have violent crimes and other serious crime on their conscience have been sitting. Also the place where Denmark's last official execution has taken place.

The prison is in one way scary because of the past, which can be seen in the prison museum.
Many large events are held at the prison. For the same reason, there are plenty of parking spaces if you just want to walk 5 minutes from the back.
Next to the old workshops outside the wall there is a magnificent view of Horsens and the surrounding area.

Very exciting tour, by a skilled guide. One could then afterwards go for a walk on your own, and add details to the stories with short one could scan and then a few stories of the inmates and staff.

Usually you drive past prisons, or you see / hear something about it in the media - here you have the opportunity to experience a prison up close. Human fates visually and acoustically very well staged. Impressive and depressing at the same time. Most of the information on the walls is in Danish, but there is almost as well as in every room brochure holder on the wall, where you can read the stories in DE or EN.

A well cured and medially restored exhibition lets you experience the lives of the inmates. Special attention is paid to some special prisoners or employees.

In addition many pictures and texts with explanations. Most of these are written in Danish, but English translations are available in every showroom as a folding book. Some introductory texts are also in German.

If you take your time you can spend up to 3h in the museum. At the end of the tour there is a small shop and a coffee. Parking is free.

A definitely worthwhile visit!

Exciting to get an insight into prison life. With the help of signs and info screens, you can follow various past inmates and employees around in their daily life in prison. Gives good introduction to the long history of the prison.
