Brief: Exodus sees no problems in ignoring the UK laws governing package travel. They refuse their customers the refunds they have a legal right to. They have changed their booking conditions retroactively, pretending they apply to existing contracts. They mistake aspirations for laws and regulations in communication with customers. I would never trust them again, as they ve shown they ll take care of themselves before their customers when things go truly wrong.
I'd like to start this review by saying I've been on one previous trip with Exodus Travels Ltd., which I would rate as positive. Perfect it was not, it wasn t all as described in the trip notes, but I had a great time and met some great people.
The reason I give Exodus such a low rating, is that a successful holiday is not all I expect when travelling with a premium travel agency. I can plan and arrange for a successful holiday myself. Agencies have a duty of care towards their customers and employees, defined by law and their own Terms and Conditions. When things go wrong, they should be there to get you out of trouble and protect you from harm.
The COVID-19 crisis is heavily affecting the travel industry. Many travel agencies ask for assistance by asking their customers to rebook holidays if they can afford not to cancel. They do however, as required by law, continue to offer immediate refunds.
Exodus however, has decided to categorically refuse refunds, and have changed their booking conditions accordingly, pretending it applies to contracts retroactively. They are stonewalling customers who continue to request refunds, only responding through blanket e-mails (in which they openly lie about following ABTA recommendations, mistaking aspirations for law and regulations), further denying their customers their legal rights.
I personally cannot rebook, as I intend to relocate to a different country as soon as possible. I don t know where I ll be in a few months from now. My booking experience on this cancelled trip had also been less than satisfactory (multiple errors while booking flights, generally unprofessional conduct). I would ve considered supporting Exodus by accepting a delayed refund, but that ship has sailed.
I can t trust a company, that ignores the law and their own values, to get me out of trouble when things go wrong. For an individual, worse things than cancellation can happen whilst already on a holiday, thousands of miles from home in a country where you don t speak the language. What if then, Exodus again decides their own needs come before those of their customers?
