The viewer will immediately notice the spikes on the huge dome, which appear like spikes. The locals quickly had a nickname, "The Durian", after the stinky fruit with which they associate the pointed metallic shades. This does not have to be derogatory, since you are definitely proud of the cultural and multi-purpose center. The location on the water with a view of the Singapore Flyer (Ferris wheel) and towards Marina Bay Sands offer a romantic atmosphere on the green promenade.
The building, which was opened in 2002, corresponds to the latest technology and interior. The amazing thing is the acoustics in the concert hall, which can be adapted to different needs. Theaters, restaurants and shopping opportunities cover a variety of wishes.
But cultural events are also popular outside, three huge sails mark this part. All outdoor events are also free of charge, so that tourists and locals with a limited budget are not completely excluded from cultural events.
In Singapore you are spoiled with modern architecture, but this place blends in perfectly.

Beautiful venue! We saw Les Miserables on a holiday night. Dress is fairly mixed, with most women wearing dresses and men wearing dark slacks and a button up shirt. There are restaurants on site, and the view of the bay is fantastic.

Excellent variety of programmes throughout the year. A few of which I would religiously attend, especially the free ones. Music is always good (depending on your taste) as there is a wide-ranging spectrum of musicians/ musicals invited to play here. More affordable food choices could be introduced here, on top of the only local style outdoor Kamasutra hawker stalls.

The first time I been to esplanade was when I was like 17 years old. It gave me deep impression of the building. There are weekly music or singing activities at the outdoor. it's free. Sometimes the band is very good. There is also a child playarea at the top floor. Small but enough for like 25 kids. Anyway it's a good place to hang around during weekend.

This is a place where you can go watch good theatre shows that comes from different countries. The environment is comfortable and the sits in the theatre is comfy. You are able to watch the performances at any height, no need to fear of someone blocking you as the sits are designed to let you see the stage at different heights. Before going in the theatre, there are different shops that you can go to eat or shop just before going in. The toilet is I'm good condition and the place is air-con filled so you don't need to worry about the heat. I suggest that if you go there you should bring a jacket as sometimes it may be cold.

Feel Singapore's arts scene over here. It's bustling with many free and paid high quality arts events. Check their website out. After the events, have a walk along the waterfront or snap a picture with the merlion. I watched the teng ensemble at the esplanade concert hall. The sounds were crystal clear and I enjoyed it.

Great place to slack and chill with friends. Dabao food there of the nearby places cant accomodate seating for ur large group of friends. There are also performances by local/overseas acts in the night. A nice date place if you are looking to enjoy and vibe into the night. The place is also near to the mrt, so make sure to catch the last train back home!

The Durians, as they are affectionately called, are right on the water at Marina Bay and house several large theatres...all very clean and attractive....as is everything in Singapore....and guides are so polite and helpful...another thing I love about Singapore. One evening we participated in the outdoor amphitheatre at a Java dance show and also it was a free show to learn some dancing moves on another outdoor scene.
