As an alum, I had a truly wonderful time studying at this school. I feel as though I got a true, real-life education. Most of the professors also worked in the industries they taught, and could give honest feedback about what it was like. A creative, open learning platform with talented students, helpful staff, and beautiful facilities, I would recommend this school to anyone looking to go into the arts, communications/PR, film, and writing, specifically. The grad program for speech disorders is also superb.

The professors are very nice, the education and connections you get there, will help you to achieve you're goals. Great Political communications program. Great MA program, good school overall.

I temped at this college for a month and I absolutely love it. The office where I temped was located on 99 summer street. Honestly, I wished I work here full time. Emerson college is in the heart of Downtown crossing which is close to everything. Great campus, great staff and I truly enjoyed my experience.

Great Visual Media Arts Program! The professors here are amazing and the class sizes are small so you can really develop a connection with eachother. Lots of opportunities on campus to get involved.

The food program makes students sick. They re placing students in on-campus hosting that is half an hour away by train. There isn t a lot of scholarship money, even to students working while enrolled. The student body diversity is a joke. And worst of all, they will pretend to listen to your complaints but won t do anything about them, listening to you cry on the phone about how bad your circumstances are without empathy.

Emerson College (Boston) was founded in 1880, and in the early days was a small school that taught public debates. For a long time, Emerson College (Boston) has gained a reputation for its professional leadership. In 1980, Emerson College became the first school in the nation to offer writing and publishing research courses. In 1991, Emerson College first offered courses in schoolchildren's drama and became one of the first schools to award drama, art, speech debate, mass communication and journalism. At the same time, it is also the first school in New England to set up an FM education station and a close-circut television broadcasting studio. Emerson College is the only comprehensive college in the United States dedicated to the background of information exchange and humanities. The school offers a degree program in art and information media accredited by the New England Association of Colleges and Schools. Over the years, the school has grown into an internationally recognized diversity school with a bachelor's and master's degree in communications, marketing, communications science, journalism, performing arts, visual arts and media, and written literature and publishing.

I attended when the school was located in Back Bay. We (students and faculty) all made do with the limitations set by the Boston Historical Society in terms of what could be done to our physical plant. That's history. The new 'campus' on Boston Common is amazing. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my experience at Emerson changed my life personally and professionally in the most positive way possible. If you are a person who is self-directed, open-minded with a strong interest in communication sciences Emerson will likely be an excellent fit.

I am a International grad student at Emerson. The IMC program here is very practical. You learn something that can actual use at work. Students from different culture backgrounds give me different angles of perspective. Faculty members are friendly and helpful.

If you want a quality education in journalism, don't waste your time at Emerson College. I was in the Masters degree program and graduated, then attempted to take the last course to get the actual degree and I had to withdraw because several of my ideas were not approved (we had a very short window to pitch ideas. I tried to keep up with a new idea, yet my professor was nothing but discouraging). A few of my peers who had their ideas approved and passed the class barely had a project: the bar was set so low for a Masters degree. I compare it to passing a college freshman's Journalism 101 course.

Besides that, the professors in the journalism department just want their students to agree with everything they say, especially with their political opinions. During the second semester, I tried to bring up other viewpoints and unheard sides of many stories but I was usually either ignored, my professors would quickly change the subject, or they would have the nerve to tell me that I had to "accept what other people believe" while they could express how much they disliked people of certain political parties.

That, along with even more negative experiences I had with professors, and the fact that Emerson higher ups cannot even keep their politics to themselves on graduation day, I'd much rather not have a degree from this school: I won't be proud of it because it was overall easy to earn and I have had enough of these professors and their behavior. Emerson was ABSOLUTELY my top second choice after Hampshire College in Amherst (I only chose Hampshire over Emerson because I could completely self-design my education there and I wanted a suburban rather than an urban campus environment at that time coming from NYC) definitely BECAUSE of the fact that I was studying Theater & Film both side by side.

Hampshire was just a bit more academically interdisciplinary than Emerson was, and I could cross-study both fields, whereas at Emerson I would have had to choose either Theater OR Film (a major/minor situation). I auditioned for Emerson down in my hometown of NYC, got into the Theater Program, and then came up to Boston for a weekend to have a campus tour and visit, stayed in a Piano Row dorm room, attended some Friday late afternoon and early Monday morning classes, and have an Admissions office interview. I was impressed by the extensive facilities for Theater & Film, and by the resources afforded by the college. To me, Emerson seemed more like a small university or conservatory than a college. All the students I met were super friendly and creative and engaged.

I COMPLETELY fell in love with Emerson, It absolutely reminded me of a "smaller friendlier version of NYU." And NO ONE from my high school was attending (they were all at NYU) Emerson. I love Boston, and I had always imagined going to college there, just because of its reputation and the fact that it has some of the best colleges and universities in the entire country. I loved that at Emerson; I could go study Film in LA for a semester and then study abroad at Kasteel Well in the Netherlands, or in London doing a Theatre program, and it all would have fit together well academically, though Emerson is more "traditional" in the major/minor GPA, credits, letter grading sense than Hampshire is.

Hampshire ONLY won out over Emerson because of the fact that I got a slightly better financial aid award there (and it was a MUCH smaller school than Emerson with a "real" rather than an "urban" campus), with smaller Theater & Film programs and the more individualized self-designed programs of study that I wanted at the time I was applying to colleges. My one regret actually not choosing Emerson over Hampshire is ONLY because Emerson overall had better resources (member of the Pro Arts Consortium and all of it's on-campus facilities and Emerson LA and it's study abroad programs). I loved Hampshire (and it is part of the Five College Consortium), but I loved Emerson EQUALLY as much. Both schools appealed to me more than anywhere else I'd applied to college.

In fact, I'd already received my acceptance letter from Emerson, and was all set to accept, send in my deposits and enroll and become an Emersonian, when I finally got my Hampshire acceptance letter. That was that. A Hampster I became. And just barely a hairsbreadth away from being an Emersonian. Ironically, many Hampshire students from the Boston area that I met while attending school there, had also applied to Emerson, so the schools DO have some overlap, especially amongst creative students. For me, it was a total toss-up. I would have been equally happy and felt at home on either campus. It was the TOUGHEST decision of my undergraduate career. I also re-applied to Emerson again for graduate school, but I was kind of dead-set on returning to NYC for graduate school instead.

Great staff & faculty, always friendly and welcoming. Very nice modern facilities. Great school overall
