As a Hilton Honors member I seek out Hilton branded hotels wherever I travel. On the surface this hotel looks like it's a very top-of-the-line and luxurious hotel. After staying there, I was less than impressed. Old buildings can be very charming and beautiful, when well maintained. This hotel is clearly resting on its laurels and the upkeep was severely lacking for what I paid for. I stayed in the Presidential Suite - the big one - and was shocked by how ragged the room and amenities were. The floor tiles in the elevator were cracked and loose. The curtain rods broke off when I tried to open the huge drapes. The refrigerator was broken and the local beer I bought got skunked. When I called the front desk about it, they did send an engineer up right away to fix it and get it running again, but there was no apologies coming from the front desk or an offer to replace my beer (6-pack). The windows were dirty, and the bath water was hard. Bring bottled water because the stuff coming out of the taps is gross. There is no guidance printed on the phone or available in the booklet to help you use the phone, you need to figure it out - '0' gets you the front desk. I didn't get the usual "thank you for being an Honors member" either. If you have a car you are in for a huge inconvenience - plan to UBER/LYFT if you can. Otherwise you will have to park the car yourself in a garage in the next block, for $35/day. Your other option is to use the valet service for $47/day plus tip of course. The service and the attitude from the staff wasn't mean or hostile, but it wasn't nice or charming either. I felt that the restaurant being in the basement and being decorated the way it was, gave it a very uninviting atmosphere.
The bottom line here is that all these 'little things' added up to an unpleasant and inconvenient stay for me. I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately I was left disappointed and will find another Hilton to stay at the next time I have to go to Portland.
Read my review about the Phoenix/Chandler Hilton in Arizona if you want to get a sense of what a top notch hotel stay should feel like...At least from my point of view anyways.
