As a Hilton Honors member I seek out Hilton branded hotels wherever I travel. On the surface this hotel looks like it's a very top-of-the-line and luxurious hotel. After staying there, I was less than impressed. Old buildings can be very charming and beautiful, when well maintained. This hotel is clearly resting on its laurels and the upkeep was severely lacking for what I paid for. I stayed in the Presidential Suite - the big one - and was shocked by how ragged the room and amenities were. The floor tiles in the elevator were cracked and loose. The curtain rods broke off when I tried to open the huge drapes. The refrigerator was broken and the local beer I bought got skunked. When I called the front desk about it, they did send an engineer up right away to fix it and get it running again, but there was no apologies coming from the front desk or an offer to replace my beer (6-pack). The windows were dirty, and the bath water was hard. Bring bottled water because the stuff coming out of the taps is gross. There is no guidance printed on the phone or available in the booklet to help you use the phone, you need to figure it out - '0' gets you the front desk. I didn't get the usual "thank you for being an Honors member" either. If you have a car you are in for a huge inconvenience - plan to UBER/LYFT if you can. Otherwise you will have to park the car yourself in a garage in the next block, for $35/day. Your other option is to use the valet service for $47/day plus tip of course. The service and the attitude from the staff wasn't mean or hostile, but it wasn't nice or charming either. I felt that the restaurant being in the basement and being decorated the way it was, gave it a very uninviting atmosphere.

The bottom line here is that all these 'little things' added up to an unpleasant and inconvenient stay for me. I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately I was left disappointed and will find another Hilton to stay at the next time I have to go to Portland.

Read my review about the Phoenix/Chandler Hilton in Arizona if you want to get a sense of what a top notch hotel stay should feel like...At least from my point of view anyways.

I went to Portland for a girls night out and we had booked this hotel. We got a city view suit with two queen beds. They did not inform us at check in that the water main broke. When we checked in the water worked. Then we went out didn't get back to the hotel till late that night. All the front desk told us the pool was out of order. We went to the room the water was not working. The front desk would not answer there phones after calling four times. Went down they apologize said the water main was broke would not come back on till 6 am. It was 12 at night right then. First they said they would give us half off the room. Then we couldn't use the toilet at all. And there was no places around the hotel that were open. Then I went back to the front desk I asked why they didn't tell us a upon check in that water would be out? They could not give me answer. All they could due was move us down to the either Hilton but it would be another $200 to $300 for a room there we said no. By then we were tired and pissed off. They gave the room for free. Then also the 24 hour gym was close when they said it was open. Also in the morning there was a weird smell coming from the air conditioning and also the hall way smelled funny. And the pillows were flat as paper and the beds were very hard. The only thing good thing about this hotel was breakfast. I will never stay at the embyess Hilton in Portland again.

Top notch hotel in a top notch location. Near many restaurants and businesses nearby. Not far from public transport too. Lovely rooms. Appears to be recently updated. Delicious breakfast and comfortable evening snacks. Look forward to starting here again

The Embassy Suite were a wonderful place to have a bachelorette party. We got a 2 Room 2 bath Suite on the top floor and had an amazing time. There wasn't evening reception that was free and breakfast was also free. Will definitely stay again.

My family and I have visited your hotel a couple of times, and it is by far our favorite hotel we have stayed at. It's very comfortable and welcoming, not to mention close to everything which is helpful for someone visiting Portland. Voodoo Donuts, a must-go for newcomers, is right down the road, as is the light rail and numerous restaurants. But we ALWAYS have breakfast in your hotel; the fresh made omelets alone are enough to make my brother and I come back. The rooms had a separate bedroom as well as a pullout futon, so my brother and I didn't have to bunk together (always a serious plus). Everyone was always courteous and nice to talk to as well! Now all we have to do is think of a good excuse to come back for a visit!

Service is second to none. Atmosphere, cleanliness, attention to details also impeccable, both in room and other hotel areas. Did not get a chance to visit all areas. Free breakfast actually meant free breakfast and all inclusive, no awkward moment of having a check brought to your table and them having to explain that only the cereals and muffins are free. Kudos Embassy Suites. Other Hilton entities should use this place as their targeted achievement goals.

I visited for an art show. The hotel lobby is grand and large with tall ceilings and ornate detailing. The people at the door were friendly. The mezzanine room where the show took place was a pretty standard hotel conference room.

Generally I really enjoying staying at embassy suites. For example the one by the airport is fantastic and I stay there regularly. I had business downtown and stayed here. There was a disagreement about my room charges and the front desk staff was rude. After some discussion I pointed out that the airport hotel charged differently, she told me to 'go stay there then'. It was late and I was tired. I accepted the over-charges and stayed. The room was very nice and well appointed. Mother's restaurant is fantastic, and it's great they moved to this location - gives them more room.

Clean room, great service from the front desk/staff, great complimentary breakfast!
Hot tub jets weren't working or were disabled, but whatever. Had one towel that had to be sent back because it had a stain on it. Good outweighed the bad completely though.

Great hotel in the heart of Southwest Portland. Within walking distance to great shopping, restaurants, the riverfront, and many of the iconic tourist areas in Portland. Our suite was spacious and comfortable as was the bed. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location to do an event

I held a 3 day event at Embassy Suites. After scouting numerous hotels in the area, I was most impressed with the atmosphere of the ballroom and Olivia Olson who is the Catering Manager at the hotel. Olivia was very friendly and helpful in showing us the premises and upon signing with them she kept me consistently in the loop as her communication was awesome. Upon set-up she was there to help assist us and answer any questions and upon the event happening, all we had to do was text the front desk for anything we needed. Pete Burghart was awesome in helping us with our AV equipment and their setup guy, I think his name is John but he went by "J" was equally as awesome. The front desk and even the Valet guys were friendly and super cool to work with. We've done many shows in the past and this hotel provided the best service by far.

The absolute BEST hotel in downtown Portland. My mother stayed here for almost an entire week on her visit and she loved everything about this place. The bellboy brought up her luggage and hoisted it to where it could easily be opened. The rooms themselves are very large with a section for couches and TV and a second room which has another TV and beds. Every day there is a happy hour downstairs by the fountain and they also give you food to snack on. The pool, spa, and workout rooms were the best and hardly anyone used them so you have the place all to yourself. Rates were affordable too considering that you are staying in the very heart of Portland and everything you could possibly want to see is walking distance. If I ever have visitors staying from out of town, I'd immediately recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Great location, friendly staff, good rooms, and good breakfast. Insanely expensive parking at $50 per day but the price you pay for convenient location. Restaurant choices around are very nice

Nice hotel in the busy area of town. Lobby and rooms are very nice and renovated well. Windows so let in a bit of noise if street facing. Breakfast buffet is usually pretty crowded but well stocked. Front desk staff are very helpful and kind. Nice pool and jacuzzi indoors

Very nice, location. Although some staff members have some attitude issues, especial towards the mid 20 to 30 yr olds. Free breakfast is amazing, an extensive line up to choose from. It is also in a wonderful location for shopping and the path along the water, although if you are not familiar with the area be careful, as a big community of homeless people sleep on the next 3 blocks over. Some can tend to be not so pleasant.

Fantastic experience starting with the phone call to book the room. Also, because we were checking out before the continental breakfast they sent us off with goody bags containing muffins, yogurt and water. Excellent experience.

I passed through the lobby after having breakfast at mother's bistro, I haven't stayed at this hotel. However It has a beautiful lobby and the staff we passed all looked happy and greeted us respectfully. I'm sure that's only a good sign.

Thought we would stay somewhere nice the night before my wife's week long cancer treatment began but our experience was not good, the room was nice and service was good but housekeeping sucks, as my wife was taking a shower a huge wad of hair fell off somewhere and landed on her, upon closer inspection we found more hair stuck to the walls in the shower, to make it right they said they knocked our bill in half, we will see. I don't recommend parking your vehicle in the parking garage or near this area if you care about it at all, as we go to leave for the hospital at six am we find all our windows broken out of our truck plus several other cars near ours with windows on the ground, nothing to steal and they still broke out our windows and they want you to pay 30 bucks to park overnight, won't be staying here again
