Efs: The French Blood Establishment

Etablissement français du sang (Efs) is the only civil operator for blood transfusion in France. It is a non-profit organization that collects, processes, and distributes blood products to hospitals and clinics across the country. Efs was created in 2000 by merging three different organizations: the National Blood Transfusion Center, the French Institute of Blood Transfusion, and the National Laboratory of Blood Products.

The mission of Efs is to ensure a safe and sufficient supply of blood products for patients in need. Every year, Efs collects more than 3 million donations from volunteer donors who give their blood out of altruism. These donations are then processed into various components such as red cells, platelets, plasma or cryoprecipitate that can be used to treat different medical conditions.
