My wife and I were spending a few days in the Seat...
My wife and I were spending a few days in the Seattle area. We booked two nights at this motel, with a potential third night if the accommodations were satisfactory. We arrived rather late the first night and were booked into a room on the second floor (even though we had specifically requested one on the first floor). The room was fine. Except I noticed an ant or two in the bathroom. But it was late and we were tired and it didn't seem that big a deal.
We awoke the next morning to find the entire bathroom swarming with ants. And they had made it out of the bathroom and into our toiletries. Management's response was to move us to another room. (They didn't offer a discount on the second night, which would have been welcome given an insect infestation that resulted in the loss of our toiletries, but we were simply happy to have another room that was clean and insect-free.)
The next morning we woke up close to 11 am (which was check out time), I went to the office and asked for a late check out and explained that we were the couple who'd had the problem with ants. The woman at the counter told me we could absolutely check out late and take our time. At 12 pm exactly there was a staff member pounding on our door to clean the room. I told her it'd be a few minutes as were finishing packing. 2 minutes later, the desk clerk (the same one I'd spoken to) called the room and told us we were now being charged for a third night because we had failed to check out by noon. She never mentioned that we had to be out by noon. So I said that if she were charging a third night we'd simply stay put (as I said, we had another day in Seattle so we might as well not uproot ourselves) and was told that "No. We had to leave because the entire hotel is booked."
So they charged us for occupying a third day but then didn't actually have room to accommodate us. Infuriating. And this after we had to switch rooms and throw away our toiletries because of ants infesting their hotel.
