Incredible institution that made an incredible impact on my life while there and continues to make impacts through networks, campus involvement and great alumni relations. A small college that is too intimate to leave anyone behind but with such a global mindset and exposure to service learning has the feel of something so much bigger.
I'm from florida, but like most Floridians had never heard of Eckerd College... until I started searching for schools. There isn't another school in the world I would rather attend. Keep Eckerd Weird!!
If you are looking for a small liberal arts college that is focused on the whole student, this is the place. With a goal of having 100% of the freshman class taking a semester abroad and a faculty mentor assigned before the start of the regular fall semester are some of what make this college more unique and a great choice.
This is a 4:1:4 program where students have an opportunity to do research starting their freshman year. The atmosphere is relaxed and geared for learning and reflection. Lots of beautiful green spaces and beach area along the waterfront to congregate and study. All faculty and staff focus on hands-on and individual approach to student learning and development. With less than 1900 students, there is a sense of deeper relationships and community.
As a mom of a prospective student, I was impressed by the high touch approach and the emphasis on developing the whole students into thriving adults.
I also love that all classes are taught by professors not TAs or grad students. It helps knowing that facility is engaged and has an open door policy. I inquired with current students on this as well. They mentioned it was one of the things they love most. I have gone to both public and private school tours and it's clear to me the relationships of students with faculty are not the same when faculty "phone it in.." with their classes. FWIW
P.S. Also impressive: Admissions staff and Financial Aid. They were generous with their time and their information.
Beautiful campus! It has a small school feel, but a world class reputation. Great environmental partner
The most wonderful college experience -- incredible professors, a close-knit community, gorgeous campus, and an all-around life changing, formative, amazing four years. Between the study abroad opportunities, close relationship with professors and mentors, small class sizes, and fun student life, this was a dream college experience!
This school will try to get as much money from their students as possible. It is definitely not worth the massive tuition they require. The education is good depending on your major. But i don't think it's worth the price by any means.
A great place to not get judged for walking around with a beer at 11am. Very wet campus, gorgeous overall.
This is a magical place of learning. The Eckerd community is caring, intelligent and open minded. The students and staff all share a passion for life and a thirst for knowledge. This small but great liberal arts college is truly making positive impacts on all areas of society and the planet.
Great choice if you're seriously interested in science or any kind of environmental studies. Very beautiful campus with huge trees, a private beach and marina, and pretty much perfect weather.
I attended Eckerd College, and it truly changed my life and made me into the leader I am today. The faculty and staff were incredibly caring and invested in the growth of the students, and I had tremendous opportunities to take on meaningful responsibilities (e.g. creating and managing a budget of <$350,000) as a student leader. I also got to travel the world (visiting 5 continents) through Eckerd's renowned study abroad programs, and of course, the weather and beautiful location are unbeatable!
I graduated in 2008 and only in recent years have begun to value the education I received. Eckerd did not teach me how to manage business, Eckerd taught me how to think. Learning how to think critically enriched my life and gave me tools to be dropped into jobs and teach myself.
This whole making college a safe and fancy place is ridiculous. Eckerd looks like a ritzy boutique place for rich kids to get an education. I hope Eckerd can focus on education and have liberal arts be accessible.
I would highly encourage you to go to Eckerd. Just have realistic expectations and understand the purpose of Liberal Arts.
Graduated and met my wife at Eckerd, class of 06'. Great liberal arts education in paradise. Anyone who complains about that doesn't get it. Would you prefer a technical institute in Buffalo? Side note- nothing against Buffalo or technical institutes, it's clearly a privilege to 1. Study liberal arts. 2. Go to a school that has its own private beach. USA
I graduated from Eckerd in 2010, and ever since have remained close to the school and the city of St. Petersburg. They say college should be the best 4 years of your life, and Eckerd delivered. The professors are more like family and only want to see you succeed, the campus is gorgeous, friendly, and lively. The liberal arts education allows you to explore any avenue of education you want. My marine science degree has allowed me to continue working and thriving in my field - thanks to a strong foundational education. No wonder Eckerd College was named a 'College That Changes Lives.'
Loved the school but Admin staff was hard to work with.
Visted this sunny college for my daughter's college search a few years ago. Lovely beachside location plus friendly and laid-back staff/student body.
So relieved to hear it got very little damage from Irma.
Very thoughtful professors and advisors. I love this school!!
