Been wanting to visit because of Band of Brothers and this is where the 506 trained. It's more nostalgic and memorialized for the greatest generation while the buildings are being renovated and restored. The gift area is small but there are some interesting pics and museum pieces to read to understand the historical context, but not enough to keep to engaged on site for a long time. Looking forward to seeing this place fully restored!
Great place to visit. I was fortunate to go there twice with the 2-506.
Love this place. The staff is tremendous and I love seeing important pieces of history preserved that honor heroes.
When I went there is loved my cabinmates and my cabin manager!
Tough run in the footsteps of the 5-0 Sinks!
Curahee!
Camp Toccoa is an amazing camp for kids who want to learn things about nature and to experience the beauty of teamwork and friendship.
Only a self absorbed idiot would post about Taccoa being a nice retreat for kids. What a moron. This is where men of the greatest generation in American history were trained to defeat the factious germans. Then to have some clown post about how their group helped complete the site. Go to a boy/girl scout retreat you idiot and stop disgracing this camp!
Very cool bit of local history. We found a fun geocache, too!
It is a special place if you are appreciative of the Band of Brothers series and that time in our history.
Mytic training site for the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment
Before the D day and the parachuting in Normandy on the night of June 5, 1944 ...
Beautiful Emotion
Very authentic, nice people, great history lesson, would recommend to everyone
Was at the camp today helping build one of the barracks and took a couple from Denmark on a tour of Camp Toccoa.
A beautiful place in Georgia that was once forgotten. A great place to hike and catch a small piece of history. Tied in with a visit to the Toccoa museum, you will find the Airborne from Camp Toccoa were heroes and earned many metals. Highly suggested and a great place to take in fresh air and take in the beauty of North Georgia.
I would like to visit, however can t find any information about opening times and days. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The small remnant of the camp itself was closed, but I had come to run up Currahee itself ("three miles up, three miles down"). That was a soul touching experience in its own. A beautiful road through a beautiful forest. The only downside was the graffiti near the top, and that the purpose of the hill now is as a placement for cell towers, but there are views at the top that will momentarily allow you to ignore the modern world and see there Georgian countryside possible as the men of Easy Company saw it. Currahee!
If you are history nerd like me, and a fan of the incredible series Band of Brothers. Then this place is for you. A small winding road to the top but an incredible view. Hopefully the museum will be built in the future. Currahee! High Ho Silver!
If you were a fan of Band of Brothers or are a mitary history buff, this is the place for you. They have plenty of authentic items used by the 101st during WWII. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend taking a hike or (attempt) run up Currahee as well.
There's not much to do there right now, but the sheer history of the place makes it worth the trip.
I remember it from my childhood, glad to see they are rebuilding.
Who else watched band of brothers and looked for the hill that's 3 miles up 3 miles down
Love the monuments around this place. We were not able to get into the camp historic site as it was closed, but you can still take in the historic significance of the camp by visiting the monuments and signs out side the fence.
My children love this. It's cost effective. It's safe. The staff is flawless! The campground is pristine.
Camp Toccoa has so much to offer adults & kids! Whether you want to do a retreat with coworkers, boy/girl scouts, or rehabilitate your precious child. Camp Toccoa hits all areas! The cabins are spacious enough & are grouped close enough for access to electricity, bathroom facilities & a camp fire. Activities include lots of hiking, team building, horseback riding, ropes course, swimming, and beautiful views of natural scenes.
Since my group helped complete Community Service Projects, we got a chance to make a difference in the lives of all the summer travelers who want to have fun. The experience was great & allowed us to see what it takes to keep the facility running successfully. The staff of Camp Toccoa are very friendly & patient with everyone, and they try to accommodate the requests from their guests.
I highly recommend any group utilize this facility for a few days, or volunteer to help them!
A must stop for any WWII or Band of Brothers fan. Very knowledgeable volunteer staff that really take pride in the museum. Also make sure to hike up Currahee Mountain just like Easy Company did many many years ago while in training.
Awesome Museum, Keith Hornick & the staff are awesome, great history of Band of Brothers...
It wasn't open, but the sense of history is palpable.
Great views and hiking. Lots of history and fun can be had here.
Historical significance! There is a small store with some coffee mugs, tshirts, CDs full of the history of this place .... The Band of Brothers.
They are accepting any and all donations to help in the renovations of Camp Toccoa.
Great place to visit and learn some great history from the people there
Memorial is somewhat sparse, but at least it's here. Hopefully it will expand in the future.
Very cool, a must visit for any student of US WW2 history.
Great history to be seen and more to come as bunk houses are being reconstructed.
A great historical landmark from WWII and the beginning of the 101st Airborne.
A lovingly maintained and skillfully managed tribute to the men who trained in Taccoa and left their to fight the war in Europe.
The muesum is surprising large spanning many buildings and contains some common and some unique artifacts.
The staff and volunteers here are true gems! Wonderful, kind knowledgeable and Keen to interact they made it a day to remember.
