I cannot praise them enough!!! Ordered my son s 6th birthday cake from their bakery dept. A difficult and detailed cartoon was hand drawn by Donna the cake decorator and came out IMPECCABLE!!! It tasted just as good! So many compliments and questions of where the cake was from by numerous guests. I ve ordered birthday cakes from the best cake shops in RI and none have been this affordable, tasty and perfectly decorated as this one. Thank you Donna! We will be back! (With an easier theme I promise, lol)

Their Gluten-Free selection sucks!!! For instance, they only carry GF Stuffing mix at Thanksgiving and Christmas... What's up with this?? They have Stove Top stuffing ALL year long! Are they trying to tell us Celiac patients that we can only have GF Stuffing at Christmas and Thanksgiving? Or are they just being prejudice against us?!

Used to be an independent market, with a great staff and a selection better than the chains. Since it has been purchased by stop and shop, all the products have been converted to stop and shop selections and the staff doesn't appear to care very much any longer. The better bet is to go a street over to whole foods which carries a better quality selection of products. I miss the old Eastside marketplace, however that ship has set sail.

Eastside Market is where I would take my son to do his shopping when he first got to Brown. This market has been the only store in the entire area I was able to find hand towels that had a Providence design. I love them and they go great in my 'ocean themed' bathroom.
That's not all thats great about this market, It's always clean and has a fantastic display of fruits and veggies when you walk in. It might not be the biggest but they have a great variety of all sorts of things.

Just as I expected, just like Stop n Shop!! This is not a compliment!! A man named Hector who claimed to work in seafood said he was covering both meat and seafood. When I asked him to cut a piece of meat he gave me a hard time. He also told an older woman that he couldn't cut any of the fish. I have a feeling he was more concerned with what looked like his closing process. I may typically pay more money at Whole Foods for my groceries but the service from their employees makes it much worth it. Horrible experience!! Won't be shopping here again!!

Bring your checkbooks this is a very expensive place it's owned by Stop & Shop what the prices at Stop & Shop or different than at the Eastside Marketplace however they have top quality products and that's why I go there so it's not so much the price it is the quality of their food

East Side has become my 'go to' place. It carries many of the brands I normally buy at Whole Foods, local produce when available, great bread selection, organics plus the basics that are too expensive to buy from Whole Foods such as toilet paper, sodas, etc. The meat and fish selection is decent but not great. Prepared foods tend to be heavy and old fashioned.

I only go here when I have to. Everything is so overpriced, even the generic "Best Yet" brand that you can get anywhere. It is a good place to get some cheeses and speciality foods, but you can get most of that at the Whole Foods one block over.

Extremely overpriced. Horrible produce freshness. Prepared foods section is not even edible other than the Pizza. Unfriendly staff. Cashier managers reprimand employees in front of customers. If it weren't so close to me, I would never go back.

Eastside Marketplace, if you don't already know, was bought by Stop and Shop. At first I was upset because EastSide Marketplace was the last large independently owned market in the area. I've known this market for 30 years and the various owners, as well. However, Stop and Shop expanded the organic area giving Whole Foods some local competition. Much needed. Their prepared food section has improved and expanded, as well. They buy their fish from Tony's in Seekonk, which is a good local fish market. There is plenty of parking and being open until 10 makes running out for late evening ice cream very convenient. There are discounts on certain days which I take advantage of. There is student, teacher, senior citizen designated discounts which adds up when I do a large shopping.

Searched all over the State for spiced apples even asked a local TV chef, no one heard of them. Called Eastside and sure enough they had them; even told me which shelf to find them over the phone. Went there for the first time. Found them and enjoyed browsing through the store. Very friendly staff. I will be back.

Bags break all the time. Literally tear into shreds either carrying them out of car or even just out of cart. This has happened a dozen times and I've only been shopping there for 6 months. They over pack very flimsy paper bags to save a penny. Today I put one thing in a bag and it ripped in the parking lot.
I have to ask them to double bag everything every single time.

I'm very sure that Stop & Shop has not kept the promises they made to the sellers of Eastside Marketplace, the market is gone so downhill. Very sad again Stop & Shop did not keep the promises at the time of the sale. That's my speculation

Great store. All sorts of good food. Great deli, cheese selections, just enough organic foods to live off of and really good meat counter. Good line of Everything. My favorite grocery. Better prices than Whole foods.

This place is the best! The hot lunch is delicious (my son especially loves the wings!) and the staff there couldn't be nicer. All the food there is fresh and they carry quite a selection of different brands to chose from. The bakery is always yummy, and the staff there will listen intently to you and your suggestions. My favorite market! Definitely a three star, I would give it four starts if I could!

Very sadly, the place has declined noticeably since being picked up by Stop and Shop. Gradually, the selection has changed as items are replaced with house brands from stop and shop (although only the logo is displayed, not the actual name.) Many of the same items as are found in a Normal Stop and Shop are here, but at higher prices. I have been happy to continue paying a premium over the last year for a good experience, but it seems now that they are trying to reduce costs on staffing. It had always been a pleasure to meet well-chosen, bright and engaged kids working there. This has really taken a dramatic turn very recently. Sadly, I may as well just use the Stop and Shop on Manton Ave, since it is now actually a better experience and with lower prices. Or perhaps Whole Foods when possible. This was once a great place with a real community vibe. I am sad to see it change like this.

change in service
Seems no longer can one pay a utility bill at customer service without paying a fee. While I understand that staff, which is paid, needs to assist with this service, it's disappointing that there's a fee. Otherwise, the store is fine.

Immaculate neighborhood food store. Great selection of prepared foods; kosher and kosher style. Bakery carries their baked breads and that of local bakeries.
Cakes are presented elegantly and staff wonderful.
Owned by Stop and Shop, you can also buy their products.

The staff at Eastside Market have always been really helpful, and they stay open an hour longer than whole foods - a definite plus - especially as a business owner who can't always get there earlier, when I would prefer to !! I don't agree that their produce is overpriced: no more so than Whole Foods, and I have often found that they will carry an item the other store doesn't! They don't shoo you out if you get there at the last minute: infact the manager and another colleague went out of their way to help me find my misplaced car keys one night right at closing time!! All the best for 2015 to all who work there!!

I have decided not to shop any longer at Eastside ...

I have decided not to shop any longer at Eastside Marketplace. The final nail in the coffin was an experience I had a couple of weeks ago, the third such experience in less than a month. I was overcharged at the deli counter. The advertised price (posted right in front of the product that I wanted) was three times less than what I was charged. When I brought this to the attention of the deli worker, another Deli worker popped in and just blasted me about how this wasn't her problem and that she would charge me whatever have been programmed into the computer. When I protested and said that I had to be charged whatever was advertised, she went on and on and said I'm going to get the manager. I have to be honest I was absolutely dumbfounded that an employee would speak to a customer that way. I wasn't rude. I wasn't yelling. I turned to another worker and said "What did she say?" I heard her. It was just that I couldn't believe what I was experiencing and hearing coming out of this young woman's mouth. She wasn't even the person who waited on me. The department manager came over and I spoke to her explaining the situation. She told the deli workers that yes, I needed to be charged whatever was advertised and if there was a mistake they would correct it in the computer so it wouldn't happen again.

As I said this was the third time in less than a month that this overcharging happened. I wrote an email to the store manager, Mr. Johnson, and I have yet to hear back from him. It's been several weeks, so that tells me really all I need to know about Eastside Marketplace these days.

I've been shopping more and more at local stores. Yes they are pricier because they're smaller and really can't afford to buy in the bulk quantities that big chain stores do. I'd rather spend a little bit more and have a decent and pleasant shopping experience than put up with loudmouth, ill-trained staff.
So, I am done with Eastside Marketplace. Dave's, Whole Foods, Urban Greens Co-op on Cranston Street, even PriceRite all have better trained personnel. And that's where my money is going.
