a magical holy place. grows your soul balls. not for the faint of heart, but it will make you grow if you are.
Strange plave full of hippies, vagabonds, and rough looking characters. We drove by and were so turned off by the place we just went on by. Isnt worth it.
I stop by East Jesus at every opportunity. Tons of people at Salvation Mountain, yet the real prize is here. Always upon entering, the folks staying here greet everyone. They are genuinely friendly with a sense of humor. This was my daughters first visit (my 5th or 6th) and she went crazy with her camera!
Surreal earth location with lovely human occupants.
After driving around slab city for a little while, we finally came to east jesus. This for my reckoning is on of the best art installations and collection of things I have ever experienced. The sounds of the wind chimes float across the air. You are welcomed by friendly locals who talk to you about what the place is about and encourage you to engage with the art. Go and the experience will live with you forever.
Beautiful visit to this open air museum. Not far from Salvation Mountain but not clearly indicated so the visit is simple to miss. It is definitely worth a visit.
Big love for East Jesus artists and new friends! I highly recommend enjoying this museum filled with creative and thought-provoking kinetic and reclaimed art. I m grateful good people supporting self-expression exist in America.
Art - not from this world! Amazing, fantastic and yes, creepy as well. This was my second trip to slab City and it's always worth to visit the east Jesus!
I travel the world for more than 20 years now and never saw something like this! East Jesus is unique!
Awesome outdoor museum. Definitely come for a wander and a lot of surprises!
Same as Salvation Mtn. - find Jesus - color is LOVE .
Don't visit. This place is demonic... I came to visit Salvation Mountain and its amazing. I drove down to East Jesus and it looks like it was taken over by west Satan. Look at your GPS.
I recommend to everyone!!! This is real art made from rubbish!
Hella unique place where people go to just be them.
Beautiful place to visit, in a rural area which makes the experience so much better because you value the art more.
Many artist expressions. It's art outside in the beautiful sunny California.
2 words. FREAK SHOW !! Must do once in your life time. .. weird and thought provoking art (or junk) love this place... will return again!
Loved loved loved this place. For years I have wanted to come down this way for Salvation Mountain. Finally made my way to the area and saw the sign for East Jesus. We made the quick mile long journey from Salvation Mountain and it was so worth it.
Come here with an open mind, and open eye for art and the artists. O have to admit I sorta liked the treehouse.
Great Artists, but m9stly, The Wizard and his conversation...
Population 6. Welcome to weird and wacky. Long drive, but you've got Salvation Mountain, the ruins at Bombay Beach, and, of course, the International Banana Museum on CA 111. Fun road to drive. Put the pedal to the metal. Watch out for the roller coaster section of road.
An open air art exhibit that's more sane that Salvation Mountain.
Cool art. I'd have seen it all but a storm expididted our exit.
This is what happens when you leave mentally unbalanced creatives unsupervised.
A hidden gem. Friendly residents. Lots of creative artwork. Donations are appreciated :)
Unreal amazing place

Only go in the day.
Arrived at night after a long drive and got chased out by growling dogs and some guy swearing like the devil
An awesome outdoor art installation in Slab City. Have been many times and always seems to have something new going on. Hopefully you'll get lucky and get to meet the wizard.
This outdoors museum of very intricate handmade arts was a interesting place. Everywhere as far as the eye could see, there was something new to gaze upon. This is a great place to go if you're looking to see something very curious to experience.
Cool Place. People there were really friendly and even gave us a tour of the exhibits and the living area. Would definitely recommend as a stop going through that area.
East of jesus is always a magnificent place to visit. The art is always changing and evolving. Support the local artist by donating via paypal.
Very kind people here. The art is really amazing and intricate! The individuals that watch over the place are helpful and gave us a lot of background on the creation of East Jesus.
It is a cool place to visit you need to come see it for yourself my words won't do it justice
A great place to see unique Art and Sculptures. Also some great people to meet.
First of all, don't go over the summer haha! It can be really hot, and you won't enjoy as much as you should. The whole place is totally cool, I love this kind of art, and I'm a photographer, so that was paradise! Worth the visit!
The east jesus art museum was by the most interesting spectacle of art I have seen in along time. Definitely recommend
My favorite part about East Jesus is that it's located right next to West Satan and that makes me think that the world is a wonderful place.
Awesome! If you're into found object art, post-apocalyptic settings or maybe you're a Burner, this place is amazing.
Very quirky. Definitely worth a visit once in your lifetime.
Nothing like this place. It's where you go when you want to drop out of society. Next door to Slab City.
My spirit feels at home when I am here. If my life was different I would of been a peace loving artsy gypsy.
Amazing art installation just off of salvation mountain. Highly worth the extra couple minutes, plenty of spots worth taking photos of, and plenty of interesting art installations.
Pretty amazing paintings they did on the land. Its totally free so worth to stop by an admire for a bit
They recently closed down the coolest interactive piece at the garden: The Unsafe Observation Tower (that's the name I was told but am unsure if it's actually the name). The pieces are intriguing, and it's dog friendly (dogs must be leashed when at East Jesus, other parts of Slabs have different rules). Flip Cassidy's TV wall is by far the most iconic and grows every year.
However, the signage as you approach the parking lot isn't very clear, so tourists often get stuck in sugar sand from meandering near the outside of the parking lot. The parking lot, or Sidewinder Rd itself, is not accommodating to huge RVs. East Jesus exists in a neighborhood, and the nearby property is often destroyed by visitors trying to force their vehicles in.
As a place to stay, they have power, wifi, food, bathrooms, showers, etc. The bathrooms are not public access unless you absolutely need them due to a disability or something.
Some of the volunteers may hit on female visitors without consequence. One of the tenets of the place is "get more laid," so if you're an artist staying there who feels uncomfortable with someone propositioning you, they are not likely to do anything about it, even if you bring it up to leadership. It's a male-dominated space.
The artists who stay in exchange for work create new pieces for the garden, so it does change over time despite not having exhibits. There is also a gallery there where you can buy their work. They are willing to negotiate ways to use their platform to help artists promote their work.
Do not be surprised if volunteers are drunk or if you experience a lot of drugs and drama during your stay. It's just part of the culture of the community. They don't live or operate on city time or in city ways.
The culture with the museum and the surrounding community is tense. The people who live nearby frankly hate the place for the most part. This is often because East Jesus tries to serve every community but the one it's in, so Slab City residents are often perceived as not artists but needy people. This is not true across the board and something the leadership seems to be working on. As an outsider, this is the only museum I have seen that seems to wish it was elsewhere instead of celebrating where it is and the community to which it belongs.
I can't believe that people live like this in this country
What a great place as everything is repurposed into a collection of art
This place is nuts. Very creative works made by some of the full-time and part-time residents of slab city. If driving by check it out, just keep driving past salvation mountain and stay left.
Great time. Cruise by after you visit Salvation Mountain.
This was unexpectedly a rAd place to go. You can explore around a bit (and you'll want to). I donated $5 and was able to grab a necklace as a memento. I want sure what to expect but after exploring it, it's one of those places you are glad exists on the planet. Respect it and go.
Cool place the art is amazing. I like the way the artists upcycle things.
This is definitely a one of a kind place. If you're anywhere near the area, it's worth the trek just to see something so out there.
The guide was informative and welcoming. It's nice to see art formed in the open. My favorite piece was the TVs. It's an aesthetic but also a representation of today's world.
Probably my favorite art museum of all time. Everything is made out of trash. Don't miss this if you're near Slab City. It was a great day trip from San Diego
Friendly inhabitants in a unique place on this Earth
Very fun and interesting place! The people there are awesome!
