Exquisitely beautiful gardens nestled in a world apart from the busy surrounding area. Once through the gates, you will find yourself surrounded by a park like environment, but once you park and walk through the pagoda gate, you cross into some of the most beautiful spaces anywhere. Meandering paths lead you down through tiers of natural rock, and plants, the sound of water falling fills the air. Suddenly you find yourself in a spectacular Japanese garden of waterfalls, bonsai, and koi. Farther up another path finds a formal English garden. Next over 1200 varieties of hosta, a peony garden, a huge rose garden. So much to see, even an edible garden. Many, if not most specimens are tagged with name and species. This is one of my favorite places in Dubuque. Peaceful, beautiful, a place apart.

If you enjoy plants, flowers, gardens (several), a lovely walk outdoors; you'll enjoy this area. Very nice little gift shop. I'd say it's a "Must See" if you're in Dubuque. The web site also lists the special events, such as live music on Sunday evenings.

Incredible gardens and a fantastic experience purchasing a bench for our deceased grandmother. Truly incredible, and we were able to place her bench overlooking the bench dedicated to her own late mother. Thank you SO MUCH for the compassion, consideration, and peaceful trip. Our visit today meant everything to our family, and it was truly.... I am without words.

Very nice place to visit. It is well managed by volunteers. The areas were nice but overall rather small compared to other botanical gardens we have been to. But that is not a criticism, as we enjoyed our time there.

About Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is a non-profit organization that was created and is maintained entirely by volunteers. The 56-acre grounds are located in Dubuque, Iowa, and offer visitors a chance to explore over 60 different types of gardens.

The arboretum was founded in 1980 by a group of dedicated volunteers who wanted to create a beautiful space for the community to enjoy. Over the years, the arboretum has grown and expanded thanks to the hard work of its volunteers.

One of the unique features of Dubuque Arboretum is its focus on education. The organization offers a variety of classes and workshops throughout the year on topics such as gardening, landscaping, and horticulture. These classes are open to people of all ages and skill levels.

In addition to educational programs, Dubuque Arboretum also hosts events throughout the year that are designed to bring people together in celebration of nature. Some popular events include plant sales, garden tours, and art exhibits.

Visitors can explore over 60 different types of gardens at Dubuque Arboretum. Some highlights include:

- Rose Garden: This garden features over 500 roses in various colors.
- Japanese Garden: A peaceful oasis featuring traditional Japanese elements such as lanterns, bridges, and water features.
- Hosta Glade: A shady area filled with hundreds of hostas in different shapes and sizes.
- Children's Garden: A fun space designed specifically for kids with interactive exhibits like a butterfly house and vegetable garden.

Dubuque Arboretum is committed to sustainability practices such as composting organic waste from their gardens instead of sending it to landfills. They also use natural pest control methods whenever possible.

Overall, Dubuque Arboretum offers visitors an opportunity to connect with nature while learning about gardening techniques that they can apply at home. With its focus on education and community involvement, it's no wonder why this volunteer-created gem continues to grow in popularity each year!
