Dr. Robert Canales Pediatric Clinic Review

Best pediatrician and his eye is spot on when comes to diagnosing, so because I saw him as a child and he did well with me and my sisters I take my child to him now.

It takes awhile for the doctor to see the patient, but it's worth the wait. Haven't had problems with diagnostics, just the wait.

Most ppl complain about the wait, I say he is worth it. I went to 2 urgent cares and the er with my son because of pale skin and being lethargic because they " had low wait times" but they all misdiagnosed my son with the stomach flu, took him in to canales. He took one look at him and said go to the hospital, he has pneumonia and is very very sick. Never taking the short route again.

Dr. Canales is amazing and extremely knowledgeable. Dr. Cathy is also really good!! Yes, the wait is long but I don't mind since I know I can trust them with my kids health. Most of the staff is rude but maybe they're just tired since theyre always busy.. One thing they do need to work on is the phone answering system.. Maybe have more people answering calls instead of being placed on hold and not getting through...

Dr. Canales is an amazing knowledgeable upmost caring passionate Pediatric Doctor that I've known for years and if your child and their health means the world to you then hes the man for the loving care and recooperation of your child!

Best doctor EVER!!! 25 years having the pleasure of knowing this amazing doctor and human being, we will be here for as long as we can!

It is a lot of kind of hard wait in an average of four hours for you to see the dr and apart the dr or chance to tell you what is empty you do not spend time to explain your discomfort or discomfort does not last a minute checking is no longer the Even though people used to know it seems that they already care more about charging than the attention of children. What a sadness really. I am very disappointed .

Going on 4 hr wait in 7 minutes.. Am sure he's a good Dr. But he certainly isn't here, just people walking back and forth.

Change your pediatrician. It is NOT worth waiting 4 hours or 1 hour WHEN ANOTHER PEDIATRA DOES THE SAME AND IN 30 MINITES OF WAITING .....

Dr Canales is a really good doctor but the clinic is a no appointment system. You can call make a appointment (IF THEY ANSWER) but when your their is first come first serve. Waiting time 3 to 6 hrs. Last time took my kids sick waited 7 hrs and the Dr prescribed meds but the staff never send it to the pharmacy. Had to call 3 times and never got the medication. Had to take them to another Dr office to get medications

I cannot begin to describe how terrible their service is. First of all, they lost my drivers license, one of the nurses never gave it back when she was checking my son's medical insurance. I called several times asking for it but they haven't been able to located it. The last time I called I spoke to one of the receptionist, she said her name was Ida she left me on hold for 40 min, I had to hang up and call again. And don't even bother asking for a supervisor because they'll just leave you on hold again until you give up. The service is the only reason why I am not going back.

Long wait at times but the care provided makes it worth your while.

Doctor Canales himself is great and very knowledgeable; however his office staff at both offices is a whole other story. The wait time is beyond ridiculous 3-4 hours even with appointment! The receptionists are very rude and roll their eyes every time you ask a question.

Make an appointment to not wait so long and do not respect the appointment, go to all the walk ins first before appointments!
So that to make appointment IT IS LIKE THEY ARE ARRIVING !!! THAT LITTLE. REMOVE A LOT OF TIME !!!

Dr. Canales is an outstanding Doctor! He was able to detect my sons cancer before it was too late but, some of his staff members are unprofessional and incompetent.

My son was token in to see Dr. Roberto Canales yesterday (09/17/2018) because he has had a bad cough. He has a history of asthma and was on albuterol on the days prior to being seen. When he develops a cough, given that he has bad asthma you can only imagine it doesn't help. When he was seen yesterday he was prescribed more albuterol , steroids and was told his blood pressure was too high for a 7 year old. I'm no Dr but common sense people, being on albuteral ( especially days prior to his visit) his blood pressure is bound to be high. They gave me orders for his school nurse, that stated he had to be excused from class 3 times a day for a week to check blood pressure. AGAIN this is something that is bound to take place (the high blood pressure) given the medicine he is on. GOOGLE it, it is not rocket science. So I called and left a message for the assistant to call me back regarding my concern. When she did she told me that was untrue the medicine had zero effect on his blood pressure (B.S) and that he was diagnosed with croups cough. I WAS LIVID no one not once mentioned while in the room when the Dr that he was diagnosed with croups. As a parent, COME ON communicate with us and let us know that. But no i wasn't. This assistant of his was rude and tried to make it seem like not telling me he was diagnosed with that wasn't a big deal. If someone's diagnosed with AIDS are you not going to inform them of that, and allow them to just casually walk out with a couple of prescriptions like no thing? IF someone gets diagnosed with the flu are you going to allow them to walk out the office with meds and have them assume it's "no biggie" while they walk around spreading germs?? To top it off i called the office and whoever i spoke to at the curie location continuously interrupted me, chuckled when i politely asked her to stop and when she put me on hold cause i requested for a supervisor i was hung up on. I have heard many great things about this DR it's unfortunate that his staff left a bad taste in my mouth. I am currently waiting for a call-back from the Doctor himself. My advise to you all, do your research and regardless of how good of a doctor they might seem make sure THE STAFF IS A GOOD FIT TOO.

The absolute worst office staff. They have no respect for patients time. They are unorganized and do not ensure the well-being of their patients. They almost administered my 2 month old and incorrect vaccine. We had an appointment and ended up spending 4 hours there.

I just simply LOVE Dr. Canales! He saved my Son from almost dying 2 years ago (2yrs old). I will never ever be able to pay him back for everything he has done for my Son since he was a baby. Very busy 24/7. & the wait times are crazy but worth it AS LONG AS you see Dr. Canales. I live in Horizon & have to drive all the way to Curie but as long as my Son s have the best care possible. That man never rests! May God bless him & his family always!

Most amazing Dr ever !(when you're able to see him ) . I seriously don't want to change Drs but I think I have too . They use to be great getting you in and out ! Now staff is ruder than ever . I've been calling since July 31,2017 to make a damn appt for my daughters 5 year check up called everyday mom-Friday . Rings twice lady comes on says please hold . I stay on hold for over 45 min each call . I end up hanging up CAll again NO ANSWER !! This is an everyday thing it's august 14th now and again I called .please hold and over 35 min on hold time again ridiculous . You're an amazing Dr Canales , but I will be Having to gr services somewhere else your staff if very unorganized and disrespectful !!

This Dr is a blessing from God. Cured my asthma, helped my older with Epilepsy, and doing very well with or youngest with her Black Daimond Pan Anemia. I have highest respect for him. He is a specialist in his field with Hematolgy and Oncology. If you dont like to wait then don't. No line with terrible doctors, also if your child has a slight cold or fever then do you really have to go to doctor. He helps all children with cancer. The man never stops, never eats, sleeps, just a pure doctor!

Dr. Canales is a local legend! He is an angel. He saved my son's life. He's caring and amazing at what he does. I love Canales.

Not even a patient. I was actually trying to have my son be a patient there. Called since 9AM. No one answers. Been on hold for over 45 minutes. I drive to trawood office. Front desk is rude. I express my concerns and frustration of the phones not being answered. She doesn t make eye contact and completely disregards what I said. NOT GOING BACK. You all should train your staff for customer service and answer calls!

Best doctors. The wait is long but I know my kids r in great hands. Make sure u do appointments!!!!

The first time I came they took like one hour to attend us. When the doctor checked my son he only checked him for 5 mins max and left. He didn't even checked him for what we came for. The second time we came in they took around 40 mins to get us in a room. My son came in for a flu, the female doctor gave him a cough syrup but didn't helped him at all. Just made him drowsy. They take like an hour to answer the phone. Now the third time the wait in the lobby was for an hour. Then another hour in the room. For them to take that long with other people hopefully they take the time like that to check my son. Not the 5 mins of check up for 2 hours of wait.

My daughter is not a patient of him but I never tire of thanking God for putting him on my way in the Providence hospital. I am very grateful to him and his team.
Simply the best doctor

Long wait and the she staff always have attitude the phone service people are very rude canales is a great doctor butt not worth it for my kids to have to wait 5 hours when they don't feel good and get hungry and cranky ,there's a lot off other Dr.that are just as good and less than half the time to attend to you and your kids needs .

My children have been patients of Dr.Canales for many years almost 20!
I give the five stars just for their good doctors.
It is true that the wait is extremely ridiculous and when there are only 6 patients and they still wait for 5 hours.
And if it is ridiculous to make appointments, because they still make you wait for time.

The best pediatrician/oncologist in town, he can practicly look at your child and see what's wrong. Sort of like x-ray vision!!

Dr. Canals is an excellent doctor, unfortunately I can not say the same about who runs his office, the problem is not his staff, the problem is his manager. If you complain that you have been waiting a lot, it will happen to everyone, even if it is not true. If you tell them that you are going to leave they put you right away so that you do not leave, I have seen this hundreds of times that I go there and every day is worst. They lack staff I have gone to smaller offices and have more staff than Dr Canales, I have had the same person who registers me is the one that takes the vital signs to my child and it is the same that goes with the doctor to help him , and sometimes the same one that makes me discharge. I had to bring my own pen because they never have pens to fill out the forms, all the equipment and the instacutions look old. I can not believe that the best pediatrician in Paso and Texas has the worst office and neglected.

The staff working there should have more training, I went to my baby's 9-month checkup and after filling out the paperwork and enduring the long waits they denied me the service because my insurance (Molina de Nvo Mexico) did not cover that check, I They said that if I wanted I could pay cash an amount of more than $ 100 !! Call my insurance and tell them what happened and they answered that for them the health of the babies is very important and that I should not have any problem in which my baby is taken care of and be covered by them.
I have no doubt that Dr. Canales is an excellent pediatrician but the reception staff is a real disgust.

Worst wait time ever, Kids are allowed to run around like idiots and nobody cares. He may be a good doctor but the wait isn't worth it.

In my opinion he is the best pediatrician in El Paso,Texas. He is truly a excellent Doctor in everything. Right away he knows what is going on with my baby. His diagnosis is always on the dot. His personality and character is of a true proffessional. He answers all my questions and always explains anything I need explained. I am glad he has been all of my children's pediatrician.

Service has just become worst every time , especialy the Apodaca man who i have no idea what he does here but is extremely rude, and we ve been coming here since early 90s. Just keeps getting worst evertime

Both locations are garbage. Don't bother making an appointment. You will wait at least an hour past your appointed time and there will be no one to let you know how long it is going to be. I am sitting in the curie office right now. It is 4:30 and my appointment was at 3.... change your dr ASAP

If I could give this place 0 stars I would! I been here since 9:30 and in 15 min it will turn into 3 hours of just waiting. The rooms are empty right now so I don t know what takes so long. Their wait time is ridiculous for just talking to the doctor for 3 min. I ll be making changes in my daughters pediatrician.

They are a good help but the wait is awful. They need to improve the wait time. I was there 3 hours people went after me got seen before I did.

Dr Canales i great but his office staff specially the front receptionist is rude. Doesn t even great you when you get there. The answering of their phone is ridiculous to have to wait so long for someone to answer. Whoever the office manager is needs to talk to their staff about being nice. It s a reflection of what type of management they have.

Dr canales is an amazing Dr.!! however his staff; for people working with children they should try being more considerate! Not only are they rude, they're unprofessional and very disorganized! I've been taking my daughter here for years only because of the Dr, unfortunately I will not ever take her back, dr canales needs new staff, asap, the only reason people put up with this office is because they accept Medicaid, how unfortunate for others! Too top it off, the wait, geez, why have a appointment when your there 5 hours anyway! Be ready to camp out!

Dr. Canales is an amazing amazing doctor, he is always there in the hospital when something goes wrong and goes out of his way to take care of his patients. Butttttttttt the staff on the other hand, the front desk and just the office staff in that matter are very vey rude! They are also very disrespectful and talk to you with no respect!!! For that I m rating this two stars. The office staff need to be replaced with more professional and respectful people. Also the wait time to be seen even when you have an appointment is ridiculous, you literally wait 1 hour to be called not seen and it s just too long of a wait, I love dr. Canales but I had to switch my kids to another pediatrician because of these red flags!!

Dr. Canales is an AWESOME Dr. Yes the waits can be long BUT you are waiting for the best. You can switch Drs BUT you will NOT get a Dr. with so much compassion for what he does.

I just change to another pediatrician, I didnt belive when somebody told me the doctors who work for him dont even have medical degree or license to practice medicine and these people is who send me meds over the phone for my kid !!! in whom I was trusting !??? Im so glad I always recorded that phone calls !!!

The Doctor is great but the wait times are excessive. They really need to hire more ppl to book appointments, sometimes there is no answer, and when there is, they often put you on hold for a long period of time, as much as 15 minutes. It's ridiculous

Absolutely Love Dr. Canales!! He is the kindest, most hardworking Doctor I have ever met. His life is truly dedicated to children of ALL ages. We are blessed to have him be part of our lives. He has saved our children and family many times, he is always well informed on anything new in medicine. Best Doctor!!

Great doctors real experienced, the only thibg is that they take forever to get to you, you'll definitely be there for a good of more than 2 hours.

Dr. Canales is excellent!!! Receptionist is always rude and makes faces when you arrive like ughhh, looks like she doesnt enjoy her job, I understand everyone has a bad day but this is everytime I go in its the same lady being rude. Also when I need to make appts or call to ask a question on meds for my kids im always put on hold for long period or get hung up on.

Before I went to the doctor I called for an appointment and told us come before 10 so my wife and I took our kids to the clinic and it was already closed. We kept knoking on the door and the staff would not open the door. Finally a another parent opened the door we got in and they told us it was already closed and all that happened before 10. Finally they took us in just to wait 5 more hours to be attended. Waist of time there.

Terrible service they give to see the doctor's channels and when one arrives they tell you that he is not there !! 3 hours waiting or not yet attend us. they are very inconsiderate with the air very high, they do not take into account that they are just born and although one brings them covered, it is too high! Total disappointment

The wait is too long. You get there at your set appointment and still wait 2 hours to get seen by a doctor that lasts with you around 3 minutes.

Dr. Canales is a great doctor but the service given by all those who work for him is very bad .. Very rude nurses with a bad face all day long. Waiting time is always a lot from 3 to 5 hours sometimes to people or this one alone They always take a long time .. They never answer the calls .. Several times I was congaldo leaving me talking alone ..

3 hour waiting period for a 3 min check up. Carmen never answers phones. We asked for her to print and sign a handicap application. It seemed to her like if she's the one paying for the ink. Told us to mail it in.

Have been seeing dr canales since my oldest son was 3p wouldn't change him. He now sees my grandkids

Today I was in the clinic of Curie and the truth is that there is too much waiting 4 hours to get out of there and that my baby is not sick was only because of the 6 month vaccines and there were almost no people. The truth is Dr. Canales is an excellent doctor so I have endured there for more than 6 years but I am seriously thinking about moving to another clinic because when Dr. Canales is not in the clinic the staff is a disaster.

Amazing doctor. Totally in love. He will literally help nurses and aids in the event they can't do very basic procedures like putting in an IV, changing out medical machinery, etc. Not too many Dr even do that. And yes, expect long wait times since he's one of the best.

Waiting time may be an issue for some, but it is worth the waiting when you have been to several doctors and no one can give you a clear answer. Dr. Canales listened to what I had to say about my daughter's symptoms and was able to translate it in medical terms.
We walked out of his office with a diagnostic and orders for several tests, which gave us some piece of mind to know that someone is finally listening.
I highly recommend Dr. Canales.

I have known Doctor Canales for more than 20 years and he is an excellent doctor and an extraordinary human being, a character dedicated in his own life to caring for and curing children, he is dedicated in body and soul to his profession and the attention received by him towards my children were in very difficult situations in diseases without diagnosis or cure by another doctor in difficult moments that is why I can give my opinion and without leaving aside how altruistic and with a big heart He is, treating all his patients equally without making ANY kind of distinction with absolutely no one.

Yes wait time is awful..but when it comes to my child..it s very well worth it.. He's an amazing doctor..I truly recommend him..especially if you're unfortunate to have a really ill child..he knows his stuff..he's made by son all better many times..he doesn't give up like other doctors..hell order tests after tests to he see what the problem is..but even then..in my case hes right on his first guess..I will continue to go to him as long as I can..

I love Dr candles known him for years but his answering service is horribly rude. I called to make an appointment for my children's and Candy pretty much have the option and I quote, "Do you want the appointment or Not!".. so I made the appointment for the Trawood office even through I always go to the curie office because I didn't want to have my daughter miss school and she said, " I can't help you with an appointment unless you come inn at 12:30, I don't have anything after that".. so I look up for the Trawood office number and I am automatically placed on hold. When this other lady finally get on the phone she never introduces herself and said. "What can I help you With? " I ask if this is the Trawood location and she said. "We answer the phone for both locations, So what can I help you With!... I don't understand how these supposedly ladies can talk to other parents like this. Like do they not have children are they fit for their position or am I just calling these females at the wrong time.

I been going to this clinic ever since I was little now I'm taking my kids I just love how they take care my kids and they give great service

Great doctor, specialized in pediatrics, oncology, intensive care. Yes, the wait can be long ( 2-3 hours). Is it not worth for your child? It is like that great restaurant that always has a waiting time, some people wait-other settle for less and go to a different venue. For my kids, it's worth the wait! Dr. Canales, your the best!!

He is a great doctor, with a lot of experience and the best thing that despite seeing so many children he always remembers his little patients. When the girls get sick, I take them to another pediatrician here in El Paso and I end up going back to Dr. Canales and relieving them.
I better not waste money or time going to another doctor.

Amazing Doctor, he took the time to examine my daughter and told me exactly what was going on, she is now home recovering with medication.

Dr. Canales is great; unfortunately his staff is horrible, wait time is ridiculous (3-4 hrs), even hold time on the phone to make an appointment is 30 to 45 minutes. Plus, Dr. Canales is not always there; my oldest is 18 and I can t remember the last time the doctor was there for his appointment.

He saved my life when I was 5 years old, I am now 31. I don't care if it takes long I wouldn't change for anything. I now take my children with him and they love him. Not only to mention that he cares for his patients and much more for his very sick patients whom he won't sleep for. Best doctor in El Paso, I've spoken to other doctors who say the same thing about him.

I tried calling to schedule appointment and was on hold for at least 15 min trying to speak to someone and no answer. Called back several times without holding so long and no answer. My daughter has Ear infection so obviously l I just decided to just take care since they do take walk ins.(Trawood Location) showed up at noon and told lady Mireya I was a walk in and that i had tried calling bit no one answer and she just ignored my comment. Waiting area was almost clear when we got there. (Ive been there before there s has been way more people wirh the most an hour wait.) I left at 1:50 with my child unattended because it was just ridiculous!(Good thing one can tell as a parent how our child is feeling, plus theres more doctors!) time is the most valuable thing we got In Life! Before leaving I asked if Dr Canales was in(of course not) and left them a note of service provided. Great Doctor once he was but man like mentioned time is essential and man if you cant handle that many patients and cant train staff with good customer service then idk what else to tell you other than I know im not the Only disappointed with it.
