Came w colleagues today for lunch and loved it!!! Nice atmosphere and excellent quality food!!!!
Food was delicious, great prices and service, masala tea was amazing!
Opening the Uber Eats delivered package it looked small in portion, but I thought the food maybe good so quantity can be less. Half cooked thick rubbery paratha with overcooked beef and chicken curry (previously frozen?) was not something expected from a vancouver restaurant. Maybe they good for their Dosa, but why would you sell something if you are not good at, or why would you serve food that is not cooked fresh.
One of Davie Street s best! We ordered the cauliflower Dosa and Paneer butter Dosa. Both looked and smelled so amazing upon arrival at our table, that I totally forgot to snap a photo! We just began eating and enjoying the amazing food here.
We also came here during the COVID-19 pandemic and the service and sanitation was excellent. Support this great local business during difficult times, if you are able!
Ordered dosa idli vada n biryani yesterday from Uber eats. Worst dosa I ever had.. so thin and the potato curry was cooked overnight including all the chutneys which smell stale after few hours. And the biryani had no flavour. I can cook much better at home not upto mark for the heavy price being paid. There are other restaurants too which serve better dosas at a reasonable price. The horrible part is the stale smell that arises after some time. Improve your quality of food or people develop food poisoning.
Rubbish food was not good staff behavior was not good
Amazing Indian. Dosas were incredible. Service was extremely slow, although very friendly.
Totally different cuisines to typical Indian - flavour of the dosa is a game changer - delicious! Definitely worth a try. Order was a bit slow for take out.
This review started off as a five star review, but unfortunately today's visit showed me something about the bad habits this restaurant is already beginning to develop. I will post my most recent review here at the top, and will leave my previous review below. A shame, I was starting to like this place but won't be going back again soon based on today's visit.
As described below, I love their papadum. I ordered it with my original meal the first time I went there, and also got some for take out about 3 days later. Both the same at 3 pieces for $2.00. I was walking by today on the way to the grocery store and decided to get 5 orders for the week. So, that would make it 15 pieces for $10 plus tax.
Picked it up about 10 minutes later and left the restaurant. Got halfway home and thought maybe I should check this.
Of course, 1/3 of it is missing, and 4 of the papadum are about 1/2-2/3 the size of the others. All the papadum they serve I think are pre-made, and it looks like they've discovered a second smaller (probably cheaper) type. They taste absolutely horrible by comparison to the larger original ones.
So, I walk back into the place and ask the waitress how many pieces of papadum in an order? One she tells me, so $2.00 per lentil cracker. Not bad, from 3 pieces per order to 1 in 5 days.
She goes in the back and asks the manager who packages up five more papadum for me and brings it out. He asks me if it's ok now. I pointed out to him that there's no consistency in the sizes of some of the papadum and he said he put extra ones in there for me. So let's see, I paid for 15, got 10, was given 5 more, and he gave me extras?
I dunno...simple math says that 5+10=15, not more than 15.
And as far as the size goes I'm pretty sure that if he served a dosa that was 1/2 the size of someone else's dosa, someone would be complaining about it.
His reaction to my experience was just smile and get me out of the place before the other diners hear what's going on.
So, I learned today that if you eat there, you'll probably get a good meal. Order takeout, and there's a good chance you'll be ripped off, and the management won't care too much.
Shameful. I'm pretty sure the dosa size issue is a way for them to start cutting costs.
A couple of weeks back I noticed that one of my favorite pasta places in the West End had closed down. The Luxy Bistro. This was really surprising to me, as the place always seemed to be doing good business, and I never had a bad meal there. Regardless, one day there is signage saying that A new dosa place was about to open up. Walking by there today just after lunch, I thought I would give it a try.
I like dosas, and while I have eaten them at maybe four or five restaurants in my life, my favorite place for dosas is the House of Dosas on Kingsway and Knight.
On Mondays they have $5.99 dosa day, and every dosa on the menu is that price. You end up getting something the size of a cricket bat for less than six dollars. And the food is good.
So, whenever I go someplace else for a dosa, this place is always the benchmark I use for comparisons.
The Davie dosa company is located on Davie Street, just a couple of stores west of Bute Street. They've got a decent menu with lots of Appiies, good alcoholic drinks, a wide range of dosas, and all of the other typical Indian fare found in a restaurant of this kind.
Mango Lassie and papadum fantastic.
The beef dosa was typical. Very similar to what they serve on Kingsway..
The dosa came with A scoop of tomato flavored chutney, and one of coconut flavored chutney. Both were wonderful.
The dosa itself was good, but the filling was a little lacking. And the price was also about 40% more than their regular priced beef dosa, or almost 3 times the cost of their Monday special.
Unfortunately the Davie doea company chose to open up their business in the West End, so of course rent is higher there and I can't expect them to be as cheap as a place in East Vancouver.
But, in the West End, this is a pretty decent meal for a pretty good price.
Friendly staff too.
Delicious!! The pics show an order of plain dosa and Uttapam. I think the salt in sambhar was a bit too much, but other than that, it is a must to try out this dosa place. The music is not south Indian for some reason, but I am not the owner so who cares. The owner or manager was kind enough to give us complimentary halwa. The halwa is a sweet dish and it was utterly, butterfly delicious. Loved it and I suggest you guys to order as well if you have space in your tummy. Overall, a nice dosa place for your friends and family.
The good was delicious and the customer service was amazing. Delicious Dosa . Thank you.
Davie dosa is one my favourite South Indian restaurant in Vancouver. They have great Ambience and the food is yummy specially their dosas are my favourite and finally their staff is warm and welcoming.
Good Food. Authentic taste. Definitely a place to visit if you are in that Area
My partner and I just had dinner here and it was great! The former Luxy Bistro was busier than we've seen in years and for good reason. The food and service was great. We shared a few appetizers to get a sense of the food. The Cilantro chicken wings are fab, and carry a spicy kick. Best order a yummy mango lassi! We then shared a butter chicken Dosa which was terrific! It's the best butter chicken in the Davie Village by a long shot, and the light, crispy dosa was the perfect accompaniment, especially with a dab of the coconut chutney that was served with it (one of three!). I have great confidence this place is going to do well and we look forward to returning here many more times.
Great place for authentic South Indian food. My husband and I, loved their dosas and rasmalai, would love to visit again.
Tasty and fresh, dosa's are huge... made with love.
These people know what they're doing, hands down!
I walk in quite often now, Kinda became a regular since my arrival in vancouver a couple weeks back. Everytime I am welcomed with smiles, good conversion and delicacies from my home, forcing me to write my first ever review....But I know these people have earned those 5stars!
Am from south India and so are these people ....i just moved to vancouver and this was my first stop in vancouver and i know that in my stomach that it was the best decision so far! It's not too pricey for a fine dining ambience in downtown vancouver per se. It's an open kitchen so you can pretty much see what's going on in there and it looks clean and classy. They welcome you like family and I've had long chats with the owner of the restaurant who's also the Bartender (gentleman fixes the perfect drinks )
The food, I've had almost all the dosa's they serve, because everyday they have a special dosa on a discounted price and it's different everyday! Every dosa is served fresh, cooked to a perfect crispy crust which breaks in your mouth like crackers and the meat is tender and flavourful. Am not a fan of spicy food, so i had to ask to bring down the heat before i ordered the first time and i was served exactly what i wanted, every time after that, never had to ask twice. Excellent service. The appetizers were crisp and were made how it should be made. I recommend the house desserts because they're delicious. I've had talks with the chef('s) and i can vouch for the authenticity of the taste because they simply know how it is made the original way!
Authentic South Indian taste and texture. Was pleasantly surprised with the quality too. Staff was extremely friendly and polite.
*MY OPINION*
First of all the server was super rude. Rudest i have ever seen. I ordered cauliflower Manchurian and my friend asked is it for 1 serving or there is one more plate that server said in a gesture what you want us to give you all in a big plates? In a super rude way. I want to say hey dude if you are having bad day just go home why should your boss suffer losses because of your poor and extremely rude customer service. Secondly the food took forever to come and it looked like server asked the chef to make it grossy as we had argument
I recommend not to go this place
The outside food you are talking about was chocolate and then you should post a sign which states SILENT ZONE or rename it to library
I saw the vancouver Sun blog which looks completely fake to me and looks like you guys paid to whatever that personality is.
You say we don t have respect for other diners first of all you don t have respect for the people who give you business and we are none of your competitors we are just students who were passing by from beach and saw this. If you continue to be like this to your customers even God can t save you from the shutdown state. I wish good luck for your business and hope you should focus on your customer service skills.
You call us immature that s your call but what we are studying at universities in a business program you are even far away from the immature level because of the way you treat the customers. It looks like you are giving favour to the diners by serving food to them. You don t have to ban us lol who wants to go to this place the way you treat the customers
P.S- this is completely genuine review. Prove this is a fake review by one of your competitors or something and get $1000 or vice versa
Delicious food. Homey ambience, with soft jazz and excellent service. I travel far to eat here and I m never disappointed.
not bad.
It s just that we shouldn t order so many starters, the appetizers are so bloated...
Indian-style pizza feels average to me.
Dosa tastes good.
Fantastic authentic cuisine! Wonderful staff and great vibes :D
One of the authentic south Indian restaurant with affordable price.
Very good taste. Its same as the food which we get in south India
Great experience delicious food as well friendly staff.
Cocktails were awesome. I m a regular customer.
Amazing food, service and ambience. The dosas are very fresh and crispy. Definitely recommend (y)
Wonderful Dosa and curry. My go to is the wonderful Lamb Biryani. Food quality is excellent and prices are amazing. It's been a great addition to the neighbourhood.
If you are indian then this place is not for you. No spices and pale food, Dosa were crispy but rst was worst. Watery sambar, sweet coconut chutney and salt less masala inside. Spicy powder is a not spicy at all. It's more like sandwich masala. Worst pizza we ever had in life. Its review of all 6 people that visited. I don't know how this place got so many stars. Wait time was horrible as well. In the whole restaurant there was only one waiter.
I ordered 2 idlies and 2 meda vadas on the previous nite . Found to be horrible the above food items !
The idlies were like 2 rocks and the vadas another 2 rocks !!!!!
Are the reviews genuine or done by kith n kins n friends !!!! I just threw them away after started eating the rocks ! Please don t give false reviews !
I'm a big fan of Dosas and was thrilled when these guys opened up downtown. Their curries are really nicely balanced and have very rich flavours even in their simpler presentations. I really liked the fish curry dosa. Their samosas are also pretty amazing. In a city that is filled with places to get a samosa it's pretty hard to stand out, but they are exceptionally flaky, light, and not greasy while still being super yummy. Definitely worth checking out.
Authentic Hyderbadi biryani. All the dishes ordered were too good. Staff and service are very good. Would love to visit the restaurant again.
One of the best place for South Indian food. I was very impressed by the customer service, especially Anusha (server) she suggested us couple of dishes which were amazing. Thanks to the manager, without even asking he came with his laptop to give me an additional information as I am not local. Kudos to Anusha and the gentleman. Thank you Anusha.
Except masala Chai, all vegetarian recipes were good
Fresh and crispy dosas. Served hot in under 10 minutes
Wonderful experience. Really enjoyed the food and the service. Best South Indian food I ever had.
Very nice food and friendly management. Enjoyed our dinner today
I've been there twice and I had the spinach and the fish dosa. The service was great too.
Nice sunny day, beautiful table by the street. Great ghee roast dosa and chutney. Great service.
Great service and amazing food. The ghee roast masala dosa is to die for!!!!!
An Awesome Dosa place. Spinach-Paneer Dosa is my favorite!
The setting and service was excellent. My family and I found the dosas too thick. The sambar was not tasty. The coconut chutney was excellent too.
Service and atmosphere was excellent. I'm glad there's finally a Dosa place in downtown. Prices are very reasonable considering the location.
We discovered this little gem by accident. I am not a fan of Indian cuisine and I have no idea what to order. I requested the server for assistance and she spent a bit of time educating me about the menu. She really knows her menu and she was super friendly and nice.
My nephew ordered the lamb and I ordered the chicken. They both came with curry sauce and they were both good. We definitely recommend this place and we will be back for sure.
This place is the best place to have a dosa .
I went there with my friend for lunch and we ordered masala and mix veggie dosa as well as chickpea curry . All the food we got was super amazing. Servers were also super attentive and friendly .
Thanks for such a wonderful experience .
We will be back soon and recommend this place to everyone.
Super yummy dosas and great service. Nice seating and you can sit half way outside and get some great people watching in. I got the butter chicken dosa and it was so creamy and delicious. Will come back
Great service from all staff members, great food.. Thank you Mr Perisamy for taking care of us ..
I loved their Dosa. Bread is my favorite. and nice and proper recommendation from staff there. :)
I love this place. Great food and great service. I have recommended it to people and they love it too. I don t understand why someone would give this place a bad review.
Amazing staff, child friendly and delicious food. I highly recommend this restaurant.
This is THE BEST Dosa restaurant in Western Canada! The martini's are to die for too!!
I would give it 3.5 maybe and sole reason is food. I went with good expectations and was a bit disappointed with the taste of my dosa and especially sambhar.not at par with loads of south Indian places. Sitting is ok.
If you want to see the video of the food and prices, you can find it on youtube: vancity food crew davie dosa company
.
My friend and I saw this delicious looking pistachio kulfi on instagram, however they didn't have it. We ended up getting the Butter Chicken and Chicken Curry meals that come with rice and dosa. Tender chicken but nothing too special. Had to order extra bread because of the abundance of sauce. Coconut Kulfi was ordered instead and that was okay. Would return to try a dosa meal and the pistachio kulfi.
Biryani was extremely hot . Shrimp dosa is also not good.
Wonderful staff and excellent food. Definitely recommend going there for authentic South Indian food. The ghee roast was a true delight. The owner was lovely and definitely made me feel like I was back home.
What a lovely place, And what a lovely experience, Never felt like i was in canada! I felt like home. The food quality was on point and the taste took me back to india! The flavours were mesmerizing! The service was 1st class!
I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! There is no other place like this so far!
I ll keep coming. I m sure!
Ps: The owner is the one on the left! Such a humble person!
Tasty and fresh, dosa's are huge... made with love.
Anusha, the waitress was very friendly and she is an asset to Davis dosa!!!!
Loved the food. Heard about it from other people. Came at 130pm Saturday Oct 24/2020 and the lady who serviced us was very sweet. Would definately come back again and try other things!
Ordered dosa idli vada n biryani yesterday from Uber eats. Worst dosa I ever had.. so thin and the potato curry was cooked overnight including all the chutneys which smell stale after few hours. A nice cozy Indian restaurant on Davie street. Serves delicious South Indian food.
The Food here is very authentic and tasty. Exceptional service and well trained Staff.
Great People, Great Service Pascal is the best, Excellent food.
Good food and great ambience. It's in downtown so it's slightly expensive, but fancy so you can take someone out to this place. If you're looking for a good dosa place that is budget friendly check out House of Dosas, but it's not fancy with the ambience so not recommended for a dinner date.
Amazing if you're gluten free or celiac. They have a dedicated fryer so you can have nearly everything on the menu! If you're gf this is the place. It's definitely my new favorite spot!
Great food Hari is good chef lamb curry was so delicious
Had the house spice masala dosa. I don t have the experience to differentiate the nuanced flavours between it and the regular masala dosa, but it was wholesome and fulfilling. A bit pricy considering you can get dosas in Vancouver for 7 bucks, but the staff was a pleasant pair. Solid 4 from me
Great food and hospitality at Davie Dosa Company! You can really tell that the owner cares about each and every customer. The dosas are fabulous as are the many chutneys and sauces that accompany your meal. We also tried the butter chicken here and were very happy with everything. Come hungry leave happy at Davie Dosa Company!!
Enjoyed the food. It's good and tasty. Humble and friendly manager and employees. The prices are very reasonable
Taste it and then you will come to know about it... Its soo Special.. The staff were so respectful and Friendly... The chef Prepares Food very well ( Chef: Leveil ) And Makes you special dishes on your interest. Best South Indian Food in Vancouver I have ever tasted...!!
The best place to eat south Indian food in Vancouver! I had ordered rasam , spicy masala dosa and chicken biryani. The rasam was to die for , I would suggest everyone to start their meal with this south Indian soup especially during fall and winter. It really helps kickstart our appetite as well.
The dosa was served with two chutneys and sambar and they have managed to create the perfect south Indian dosa here with all it's authenticity.
The biryani was the best of the lot for me and was sumptuous. The key thing to note about the biryani is it is served with raitha and gravy. It says how much the owner cares for the customers as many people would not serve these with the biryani and would much rather make a little more money by making us order it as a side.
The staff are friendly and I really liked the ambience as well.
I suggest everyone to give this restaurant a visit as it caters to all needs and you can customize your spice level as well!
Excellent Indian fare with delicious dosas. Very personable staff. The chef visited our table. I think this restaurant has the best Indian food I have ever eaten.
Reminder : you are going to a street hawker don't expect customer service as they are super rude
Did not enjoy the butter chicken here. Sauce was very runny and the chicken wasn't great. Got way less meat than I would expect for the price.
Excellent food and owner is very friendly he make very good drinks. Highly recommend
Great food and hospitality at Davie Dosa Company! You can really tell that the owner cares about each and every customer. The dosas are fabulous as are the many chutneys and sauces that accompany your meal. We also tried the butter chicken here and were very happy with everything. One of my favourite spot for get together with my friends. Really good food with excellent customer service. 1235 pizza is highly recommended for this place.
The paper dosa is perfect here! Highly recommended it! In fact I have never had a dosa here that I didn't like. Check out their cocktail specials too (before 6pm). The sambar's flavour is great but if I was being very picky I'd say it's a tinge on the watery side.
What a wonderful place for Authentic South Indian food. Good ambiance and real good taste in friendly environment. Wish a big success to owner Sharv Ramachandran for his efforts.
I request him to start one in Washington state cos we need one here.
I give him 6 stars
Dr Gulshan Sawhney
Great service and amazing food. The ghee roast masala dosa is to die for!!!!!
Had the best dosas in a long long time. Good portion, delicious chutneys and sambar. The ghee roast masala dosa is to die for. Great service and very friendly staff, proper hygiene maintained and following all protocols specially during covid.
The owner cares about the quality of his food and service. Enjoyed the food for lunch. Ordered chicken 65 and masala Dosa. Was hoping the masala was a little more flavorful and spicy, but I would still come back. Lots of gluten-free options!
The staff was very friendly, but the food was strikingly subpar and almost entirely flavorless. Our server tried her hardest to make up for it and did what she could to help, and was very apologetic.
