Great menu and delicious skirt steak!! Iconic and a baseball fan's heaven!
Will start with the negative first: none exist.
Positive stuff. Everything. My best friends from out of town stopped in for my birthday and chose this restaurant because it sounded tasty . Boy were they right! Everything from the first bite of my salad down to the last bite of my Parmesan crusted steak was cooked by angels. The ambiance was really neat as well. Dining surrounded by sports memorabilia is something that isn t alien to me, but D&C blows everyone out of the water. Not sure how someone can collect so much stuff, but damn is it impressive.
Our waitress Maureen was over the top best service I've ever had
So I heard Don and Charlie's is closing. That is too bad as this place is a staple for us during spring training . The sports memorabilia is always a conversation and the burgers, breasted chicken and ribs are my families go to items. I was sad to hear it was closing.
This was some of the most perfect prime rib ever. The hot fudge sundae was beyond exceptional.
We were greeted personally by Don himself before we were seated and after. Great place with lots of history. Hurry and make a visit, I hear they are closing in May of 2019
Spicy Broaster chicken was killer! Great service as well.
An exceptional Scottsdale experience. Hard to get in during spring training.
Hands down, one of the best restaurant experiences that I've ever had. The food is fantastic, the staff was super friendly, we chose to sit in the bar area for a more casual atmosphere. It reminded me of the bar from Cheers, in the sense that we felt right at home.
I work for don and charlis from March 4 to 15 2018 as a busser the worse experience ever. The managers are pregidece even though I know how to speak English the manager Phil was discriminating me talking to me in Spanish their not fair about the work load I really work hard I really try being a father of five boys and a beautiful wife I need to work for them but honestly the condition , that management want me to do 2 peoples jobs at very fast paste is just unfair un humain they really took advantage of me they don t know that I have a bashelors degree in carpenter and mechanical ingineer I have work in the paloverde nuclear plants all over the nation I honestly need a honest job but they really though i was an inorent person I am so glad I quit I desirve better god will provide a business for my family I know
Great service great food. even when packed during spring training you always get treated right
A Baseball fans delight
Amazing service and a perfect ribeye... What more could a guy ask for?!
Im from California and not only am I a connoisseur of meat but I was also a butcher for many years in all aspects of the industry I've easily spent twice as much on a dinner for two and left disappointed and I must say Don and Charlie's made me one of the best steaks I've ever had i will most definitely be a regular
Wonderful..
.food great... service great.
This place is good, if you like bland cafeteria style food (or don't know any better). I have a lot of friends in the culinary world and not one of them likes this place. Don't understand the hype at all.....especially for the price.
Shelly is the best bartender in Scottsdale. She always makes us feel welcomed. Prime rib is exceptional and the baked potatoes are to die for. It's our hometown go to place for a great meal and home town hospitality
Food was okay. Service was so-so, Not as good as they used to be back in the day. Hadn't been there in quite some time. Def not the same.
We showed up on a Saturday without a reservation during the World Series, and were treated like GOLD by Don and his staff! We walked over from the Marriott Suites with our sons, who were in awe of all the baseball memorabilia! The food was top notch, and we will be back next time we're in Scottsdale! The service from the top down was good it's the kind of stuff that we'd use in training videos in my industry! Kudos and many thanks to you and your staff for the amazing experience Don!
One time I ate a delicious steak here then two years later the Chicago Cubs won their first World Series in one hundred and eight years. Coincidence?
My burger was great, few guys at the table were not to happy with their meals. Very crowded with people and sports memorabilia.
Great Place to eat and lots of baseball memorabilia
This place is a must go if you like steak or a fan of sports. The walls are filled with sports memorabilia and a case of hall of fame baseballs signed in the very front. The prices are reasonable and the steaks are terrific. My go to steak place in Arizona. The service is unbelievable. They always clean the tables, make sure your drinks are filled and are always paying attention to you. The ribs are my second favorite meal behind the Chicago skirt steak. Also you must try the creme brulee, it's so tasty and has a nice piece of chocolate at the bottom.
Not a great option if you eat vegetarian, the selection is very limited.
Absolutely a first-rate establishment. Superb food and Cocktails, no tank tops allowed proper attire is recomended.
We are from out of state and were looking for a steakhouse to have dinner at. We researched several spots and decided to try Dan and Charlies because of its rating. We wanted a more low key atmosphere, which we got. Classic look and feel, casual not too casual. We had a great wait staff and were seated promptly. Overall we loved our night. The food was good and piping hot. Great ribeye but the star of the night was the prime rib. One of the best we've had and we're from a cattle friendly state. The only downside was the shrimp cocktail. It was so-so. They were big but tasted a little fishy and the atomic sauce was too much. I wish wed been told it was that hot, I wouldn't have spent the money for it. Overall, we would come again if we're in the area and we had a nice dinner.
A Monday evening not crazy buzy. My steak was overcooked well done, our server Ana graciously took it back...the replacement took a very long time to arrive...my wife finished her filet mignon before mine got back to the table..Im not pleased at this point. When the steak arrived our server could tell this was going sideways as my wife was finished..she had the manager contact us and he comped the steak with apologies. The 2nd steak was fantastic as I have come to expect from Don and Charlie's imo their ribeye is the best in Phoenix...Thank you for the recovery and great service...we will return.
Don and Charlie's is dark, cramped and often very noisy. The food, while solid, is basic "meat and potatoes" American steakhouse fare that won't win any awards. What makes this place worth the trip is the amazing collection of sports and celebrity memorabilia covering seemingly every inch of space (and then some) on the walls. You could spend hours here just looking at everything. Don and Charlie's a piece of Arizona (and sports) history.
This place is AWESOME. Food is killer but the sports memorabilia is so cool. A most visit
Service was good -food was ok. Good family spot. Lots of cool sports memorabilia.
Would actually give it a three and a half stars if they had half stars. The decor is cool to look at - lots of sports memorabilia. But food is just so-so.
Excellent restaurant with great food. Service was terrific and atmosphere VERY comfortable. Went there for our anniversary and I am glad we chose Don & Charlie's.
Excellent ribs and schrimp.
Must have chopped liver apatiser.
Not the same as Chicago, but a close second. Recommend the chopped liver plate for starters. Salad with their anchovy dressing, well that's a matter of taste and I loved it.
Ribs were dry, perhaps since we tried the charred version instead of the regular style.
All in all, it's a different kind of bbq which you either love it or don't.
Not that fall off the bone style, have to use your teeth, again we love it that way.
Rumor has it, that they are closing by next year. Sad to see this long time staple go, hope they reconsider and/or remodel or move to a new facility.
Hoping they stay around for many years to come.
Excellent food and great service. Thank you Teri for a great experience. Our compliments to the rest of the staff also.
Great atmosphere...of course. Good food. Had the charred ribs - tad dry but what do I know...my first time there - still good though. My buddy had the encrusted strip - very good. Met the GM of the restaurant. Good man - he took time on a busy night to share the restaurant s story and history. Kind of like being in Field of Dreams. If you love sports, nostalgia, history and good food - this is the place for you to experience all of the above. Best wishes to all at Don & Charlie s!
Don & Charlies is a classic place to find a great steak. The service is excellent with menu items in a wide enough price rage to fit dinning on a casual budget.
Awesome ribeye. So full of flavor and tender. Creme brulee dessert is delectable! Staff is very attentive. A dining experience....And then there's the sports memorabilia! WOW.
This place has the best BBQ sauce in the valley. Grandpa has been coming here since he moved to the valley back in the day and has made it a family favorite down three generations. We try to make it over at least two times a year to enjoy the ribs and atmosphere. My favorite steak house hands down!
We would've eaten here every day after the ballgame if it eere just my son and i.
This was our first visit to Don & Charlie's. WOW! What a great find! The restaurant was elegant, yet fun! The food was beyond delicious! I ordered filet mignon; no knife needed here! Knowing it was our first visit, the manager personally welcomed us and spent some time getting to know us. On our next visit to Scottsdale, Don & Charlie s will definitely be one of our stops! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Best prime rib ever. The Atomic horseradish will pinch you in the face and you'll love it.
Had a wonderful dinner with out of town guests and Mary our server was delightful. Have had great "honorable mentions" such as Haley, Sam and Chelsea also in the recent past.
We had a nice dinner with some friends last night at Don and Charlie s. The food was good, the service was good and the atmosphere was interesting. The place has no sign but google maps will take you right to it so trust it.
Great service food is excellent menu is not overly giant and everything is good. We go at least once every time we visit Scottsdale. Look on the walls you always find a baseball or football signed by someone you missed the last time
Great meal, great service! Looking for to the next visit.
Don & Charlie's was the absolute best steak in Scottsdale. I would gladly recommend to anyone. Kiara was an awesome server and made sure we were taken care of. I'll definitely be back!
Being from Chicago originally everyone said be sure to go to Don & Charlie's. The food is great and you will love all the sports memorabilia. Go if you can, you won't regret it. Thank you Don & Charlie.
We had a 715 reservation on a Tuesday with a request for a booth a my wife has trouble hearing. When we checked in they were running late with many others reservation to the point the hostess was offering free appetizers as some were 30 minutes past due. Bad sign. We were called at 735 and offered to sit in the bar ..uh...no. I could tell the hostess was trying, but no that's not what we bothered to make a reservation for. We canceled our reservation and went to Maestros.
Great steak. Exceptional service. Love the sports memorabilia.
Always a great atmosphere at this iconic steakhouse. Excellent service, high quality food, atmosphere unlike any other restaurant in AZ.
Wonderful food and service, steakhouse traditional. Consistent and reliable, with more sports memorabilia than you've ever seen. Scheduled to close April 10, 2018.
Best fried chicken (Spicy Broasted) I've had! Had family in from Chicago and they agree. Can't wait to try other items.
My family used to take my brother and me to Don & Charlie's for birthdays. We'd all order racks of baby back ribs and steak fries, put on our bibs and eat to our hearts' content. My dad would sometimes order frog's legs. And then at the end we'd get a sundae covered in magic shell for the four of us to pick at.
We still go to D&C's every now and then - I haven't been in years. IMO they've gone a little bit downhill. The ribs aren't as magically perfect as they used to be (that might be me), the prices are more expensive for less quality. And now that I'm in Texas I can get great BBQ whenever I want and it doesn't feel so special. But there's still magic there, especially in the sports-memorabilia-covered interior decoration. Baseballs signed by legendary players, autographs galore over the lobby, well-off old Scottsdalians enjoying their meals. There's still something patently awesome about Don and Charlie's. I'd be happy to return anytime. Just get the ribs back up to par with my memories.
Love this place.... It will be sad to see this iconic landmark leave!
When I first came to Phoenix in 1989, the restaurant business was on hard times.
I heard about this place called Don and Charlie's decided to go and it was a very quiet evening I think early and I walked into the bar and there's this gentleman sitting at the end of the bar for the stack of comic books in front of them. It was Don himself.
II introduce myself and we began to talk shared with him my background at the University of Florida where I think his daughter had once attended. He and I talked and he was very gracious warm and inviting.
From that point in time and for many years thereafter I always took my family and friends and business associates to the restaurant and had a marvelous time. Don was a gracious host always coming up talking with us asking how everyone was and took a very keen interest into your satisfaction in the dining experience.
Thank you Don for many memories, you have always been a gentleman and a delight to talk and be with for a wonderful evening.

They have a fillet at this restaurant that is amazing! Best beef I've had outside of The Hawkeye State! A must visit for everyone!
I had an amazing evening dinner at Don & Charlie's with my work. The place is decorated with old baseball memorabilia, which if you're into that, is really awesome!
What really caught my attention were their ribs. They were succulent and full of flavor and had the perfect crisp on the outside.
It's a shame this place will be sold in a month or else I'd visit here again. Best of luck to the owners.
What will we do without a place to get charred ribs, the best cole slaw in town and chicken schnitzel? Be sad. Arizona has lost one of the best restaurants it ever had.
Excellent meal! Great service. Worth the 20 minute wait.
Good meals just dont treat the back of house all that great
The food is good, but under no circumstance do i recommend this place for bringing a business partner or client. We reserved a table for 7 and with 6 of us there Don refused to let us be seated until we had a full party. He "graciously" said that we could be seated now with 6, but our 7th would not be allowed to join us. We were informed we had 15 minutes to get our full party or he would have to give our table away. We waited about 10 before our 7th showed up and were finally seated. So instead of us buying drinks and relaxing for that 10 minutes we stood there in the way. The dining room had at least 4 open large tables we could have been seated at...It blew my mind that Don would rather have us waiting than using one of those tables to drink and order starters.
Don sent us a couple appraisers once we had been seated which was appreciated and tasted great., but did not resolve the awkwardness already surrounding the evening.
I would say the food here is great, but being talked to like a parent talking to their kids is a huge issue with me. We were made to feel like we were doing something wrong and just annoying him. If you enjoy awkward feelings and confrontations this is the place for you.
Great filet, but for the $41.00 price tag I would recommend a classier joint for steak.
Don should read some of the reviews on here talking about his attitude toward his customers and reflect a bit.
Got turned down to order a pick up order.. absolutely ridiculous that they turned down a huge order because they were apparently "too busy". Called right at 5pm opening on the dot. Can't believe they would turn away business. Definitely won't even try going back.
Get the Steak sandwich it is the g.o.a.t. and I like the Mac and cheese. Awesome food.
Noisy. Difficult to converse. Food and service was wonderful.
