I had a five star experience here with my family and two babies. The owner and staff here are extremely kind, caring and thoughtful. Everything about this hotel is perfect I couldn t fault it in anyway. The price is great. The staff will help you in anyway possible. Great scenery and services provided by hotel. Food is tasty and presented very well and fresh. The view from the hotel is amazing. I hope to go back here next month. I will recommend to all my colleagues. Thank you X

Great for families. Stayed with family and my in-laws. Kids enjoyed every moment. Got a warm welcome in the reception by Sue. Stunning views from our room. Breakfast in the morning was also nice. Kids enjoyed the swimming pool. Enjoyed every moment. We will come again. Sue is an absolute gem!!!
The staff were very friendly and caring they could not do enough for us, the food was excellent and the bedrooms were soooooo comfortable. We had a great time cannot wait to go back again
No breakfast menu...no masks/visors worn by staff. Rooms not cleaned during your stay you had to request clean towels, etc. Fab location but not a hotel I would recommend dye to service and management.
A screenshot from my childhood that has come alive due to one man with money and good tradesmen who brought it back to glory again. Please visit when you visit Kerry Susan and Cindy Browne
This review is for the bar/restaurant only I did not stay in the hotel, this is only for the bar/restaurant. The food was okay, but somewhat overpriced. We only went here because we arrived late to the neighbouring campsite and were starving and were looking for a place that served simple cheap pub food. This place fitted the bill perfectly, if thats what you're looking. Be warned however that the service was quite poor. We ordered our food and were left waiting unacceptably long for it. Then when we ordered dessert we were waiting 30 mins for two slices of apple pie (at a time when bar was rather quiet) and we had to remind the waiter about our teas and coffees. The apple pie servings were tiny and had been taken out of a freezer and were very poor quality. Even after being reminded they still never came and we eventually told the manager who hastily sorted out the order. At the end of it all we had to pay nearly 90 quid for what was an abysmal experience.
Went to see the hotel yesterday as I heard it had reopened , first impression wasn t great nobody inside reception , kind of had a hostel feel to it , to be fare the staff are friendly , the food was only ok , in general it s a place that has potential, what the place needs is Mary o Connor back behind the reception giving that touch of class that s seems to have been removed
Not handling the covid19 very well. Staff polite but hotel in not great shape. The terrace was closed, could not understand why. We left without ordering. Party of 8.
A lovely lovely place to spend time at on the ring of Kerry Ireland. The views are magnificent and panoramic while you sit in comfort being looked after by the friendly and helpful staff. Has to be seen and experienced to be appreciated.
Excellent. Situated alongside the Atlantic Ocean this hotel offers unparalleled views of Kenmare Bay. Dolphins, whales and seabirds are regularly Sen passing by.
200 euro per night for furniture from the 70s, mold smelling reception, cigarette smelling pool area. I'm speechless. We checked in, saw the room, ran away. We lost 200 euro, but honestly it was a bad hostel. Would've not have minded if we knew what to expect and for a different price. But boy, this was a scam. Avoid if you are looking for a hotel and spa.
The place is a dump. Not very covid ready. No masks or face coverings were worn in the evening while serving dinner. Social distancing was non existent. The hotel is randown even mouldy in parts over priced at 198 euros a night .
Had dinner tonight, arrived very close to last orders but it was no prob, very nice man working in bar looked after us and we had a fab meal, food very nice and no rush... thank you.
Amazing to see the place after 25 years. Delighted to see the new owners have revamped the hotel. Everything is new. Very modern looking. Good local spot, amazing views, lovely fresh new team. Pool still ice cold, live music, and a nice new menu. Sadly thought it was closed and had made plans. Will book a room and come back for sure.
First the positives. The hotel is located in a beautiful place, the view from the room is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. But unfortunately a lot of things let this hotel down which is a pity. The room we had was dusty, very old and tired, the bathroom especially is horrible, a cracked hand basin, peeling ceiling paint ancient tiles, old off white towels. Covid19 precautions are minimal, some perspex around the bar and breakfast buffet is about it. The staff don't wear masks or visors and are constantly coming within 2 metres of you at mealtimes, including the manager goes from table to table to chat to guests, very nice in normal times, but seriously they need to realise we are in the middle of a pandemic. There is a bar area situated in the area beside the door that leads to the rooms, every evening this area is crowded with people drinking and you have to walk through them to get to your room. My advice is not to stay at this hotel if you are over 70 or belong to an at risk group. The meal as stated by previous reviewer was awful, the fish cakes were 2 deep fried hard disks with no evidence of fish and for nearly 20 euro an absolute rip off. Breakfast is chaotic and disorganized. The buffet consists of a a bowl of whole fruit, boxes of cereal, yogurts, cheap fruit juice and bread rolls and a few pastries the hot food which is ok is served at the table, again rock hard, deep fried hash browns. No marmalade one morning and the staff member I asked said they had probably run out and had no interest in looking for me. I have had much better breakfasts in Premier Inns for a quater of the price of this hotel. We paid nearly 600 euro for 3 nights which for what they offer is a complete rip off and way over priced. You get the sense there is minimal input to make maximum profit. We will never return and recommend you look for a B&B if you want to stay in this beautiful part of the country.
Disgusting! Poorly kept! Jude rudest man alive! Speaks no English terrible food - had food poisoning .. he charges 300 for a student size room ... toilet not functioning
The staff are lovely, views and location are amazing, but needs some improvement. The rooms could be cleaner and modernized but not a deal breaker. What really lost it stars was the dinner. It was very poor to the point that the kids wouldn't eat it and we didn't finish ours. Didn't seem fresh or quality ingredients.
This review is based only on the bar / restaurant area. The view over the bay while eating is really great. But that's just fine with the highlights. The menu does not match price and performance. The food is not fresh, as you would expect from the many small restaurants and bars in the area (except the pizzas). The boarding pass is very clear and contains only the dominant foreign brands in Lager beers. Recommendation: in the immediate vicinity there are some, very well valued alternatives, which one should prefer this restaurant.
Dirty restaurant, terrible food (calamari tasted like rubber bands and fish cakes were microwaved) half the staff not wearing masks and our table wasn t even cleaned prior to us sitting down. avoid like the PLAGUE!!
Loved this hotel. The staff are so friendly and professional. The lounge, bar and breakfast areas are airy, original and have amazing views of the sea. The location is good, about 5k from the Derrynane Beach and two minutes from other beaches, lovely for joggers and sea enthusiasts. Highly recommend.
We stayed in Derrynane hotel on the 8. June 2019, as far as I understand it was 3 weeks after reopening after renovation. Its location is unique and unbelievable, where the glass restaurant on the cliff of the ocean is surrounded by spectacular mountains with spectacular walks in the Dark Sky Reserve But also everything else was done perfectly to my taste. Open pool looks so cosy with that reed fencing. Sauna and steam room, hydroshowers, tennis court on the cliff of the ocean were all included in the room price. All the marine style accessories, so that its an art exhibition as well as simply a hotel. I liked that Stephen King book in the hall, the fish tank with the crab and one weird fish in it and the pieces of art from all around the world. Rooms with everything fresh and new, and there was not just a shampoo in the bathroom, but also conditioner, which is unbelievably convenient. There was a shawl like blanket on the bed, so you can wear it to the sea walk in the evening. I loved the type of blinds day-night stripes. The view is not just the plain open ocean, it s actually a rocky bay, you see the Lambs head and the mountains on the other side as well as open ocean. At the same time, I liked the spirit of 60-ies is still there somehow (the hotel was built in 1960-ies). Lovely lighting outside in the evening. Feels remote, pretty quiet, but I think it depends on the season, as there is always such a buzz nearby in Caherdaniel pubs. Feels like resort in another country, as there was very still and stable weather, especially in the evening, at the same time when was very unsettled in Limerick. On breakfast I liked there was homemade yoghurt in the bowl, not just commercial yoghurt packs. Seeds and nuts in jars to choose, also those big colourful raisins in the jar. Hot porridge. Small eggs from young hens. I cant wait to go there again for a longer stay and its so much better than Spain, because here in Ireland on top of lovely place you have a bonus: convivial people.
We rang ahead to ask if the pool was open to the public and were told it was. When we arrived we were told it was closed to the public, then we were told they were running a chemical disinfectant through it and then we were told it was closed to everyone! The manager/ owner greeted us with the worst customer service I have ever encountered. He told us it was his hotel and he could do what he pleased. His ignorance and rudeness were beyond belief. We then decided to get coffees and was charged 2.50 for an extra shot of expresso in my flat white. To top it off we were then charged 3 for a bag of crisps. So avoid at all costs...
Our first impressions were very good. We were warmly greeted by Simon who was very helpful and charming. He couldn't have been more helpful.
The hotel itself was nice. It was nicely decorated and clean. Our room had a fantastic view and again was simple and clean. Nothing amazing but at the same time nothing to complain about. Our favourite part was the sauna, steam room and outdoor pool. All the facilities were well kept and offered a nice alternative instead of going to the many beaches in the surrounding area.
The location was also great. It had many spectacular views and had access to some of the nicest beaches kerry has to offer.
Only downside was the restaurant. They offer a very small menu with a large price tag. Thankfully the hotel is only 20 mins from sneem which offer many great restaurants at more reasonable prices.
We stayed here recently with my parents. There seemed to be nothing but issues throughout the stay. We tried to take it all with a pinch of salt and try to enjoy the break. After all, the views are stunning and Location is amazing so we toughed it out and made exceptions, trying to laugh at it and see the funny side. This became harder and harder to do as the week went on.
We heard a range of funny excuses to be fair from the owner who seemed very frazzled as the poor staff who did not seem to have any management or direction went directly to him with requests and complaints. Some of my favourites; We asked for extra side of coleslaw, waitress said no problem, returned and told us this was not possible as the chef makes the coleslaw himself and won't give any extra as a side order.
At desert: 'we don't have custard to go with your Apple crumble dessert as advertised because we are too far away from town to get any since Monday and we ran out two days ago...... We have ice cream though instead'. *we wait 25 minutes* 'we don't have any ice cream' when we ask why we were told there was then, we were given this great line 'well we have ice cream, but it's too frozen so we can't scoop it out'
On a separate day, my mother requested Poached eggs and toast for breakfast as my father was unable to have fried food due to medication he is on. The waitress went to the owner in the breakfast room, asks him if they do Poached eggs. He looks over to my mam as the waitress points her out to him and loudly says 'oh, it's you, custard lady, why am I not surprised' in front of all the diners. This I did not find one bit funny. In fact I found it rather upsetting, rude and to sum up this hotel owners values and attitude which is disgusting.
We will never stay again. We unfortunately got charged to our card twice and when asking for this to be refunded were told it 'bounced' by the lady on the phone. Still awaiting this to be resolved.
Great potential here, but basic rooms with one plug, lights switches behind pillows on the bed and very much in need of renovation. Staff team need a manager and not to go directly to the owner with a poor attitude to hospitality.
Visited here recently to meet up with family who were staying here. Lovely location on the ring of Kerry with great views of the Atlantic ocean. Bar and food are both very good. Pleasant staff and plenty seating inside . I haven't stayed here yet, but it seems quite comfortable. There is an outdoor swimming pool and picnic style tables .
We only ate and drank here and while it may just be 3 star hotel today, it is on the way up thanks to its new owners. The restaurant was full, always a good sign and the food was fabulous. Staff were very friendly and the bar was excellent with amazing views. Watch the Derrynane Hotel go from strength to strength after this very challenging year for the hospitality industry. They deserve to be successful.
This Hotel is just stunning! The food is divine!! Myself and my family were very impressed. The sea view is well worth it. The views are to die for & the staff & the owners are very friendly. Breakfast is included too! There is a tennis court & lots of sports equipment available which is great & even a complementary bottle of wine in the room to top it all off!! Lots of lovely little gestures including a gift bag upon check out to thank guests for their stay. There is lots to do in the area, with the beaches, Skellig Ring & Kerry way walks to name a few. A great destination for a get away! :)
Had a lovely few days here, the views are spectacular, the rooms are basic but really spacious and spotlessly clean. Food is lovely, bar is gorgeous, lovely walks, beautiful beach down the road, pool and sauna, sure what more could you ask for. Also staff very friendly and accommodating, I will be back!
Great to see Derrynane Hotel open again. Beautiful simple hotel on a lovely location. We stayed here many years ago with friends and enjoyed the outdoor pool in the winter months. This hotel reminds us of Michel en Grave, in Brittany.
We ate dinner there three nights last week. Lovely food and drink at a reasonable price, and enjoyed some lovely music in the hotel.
We are in a camper park this time up the road. We came to Derrynane for a drink on a fourth night.
We wish the new management and its team every success in the future. We hope to come back in September and enjoy the same quality.
Didn't stay here but spent an evening with friends. The staff are very inexperienced and were more interested in chatting with each ither than with the customer. They were also engaged in a lot of mobile phone activity. Atmosphere was very poor. Could do with improvement.
Just stayed for the one night . Wished it could have been more. Very impressed with the hotel. From the welcome to the going away pack and all the inbetweeners ie the bottle of wine in the room . . Staff very friendly and good at their job. Room was spotless and modern. Bed is huge you could ly anyway. All in all a great experience had.
Hi had a lovely stay here 'weather was poor but the staff were excellent the lady on reception was a credit to the running of the derrynane hotel i think here name was Suzanne ' she booked us in yesterday evening Saturday the 22 nd June and booked us out this morning ' Ron and his breakfast staff were top class thanks again for a lovely stay ' mick o shea .
What a view! The Hotel is set in a spectacular location with views for miles. Normally we would camp in the campsote but this year i am prgenant so we opted to stay in the hotel. I received a gift of a One4All voucher and so we decided to ise this. On arrival (& to my embarrassment & annoyance) we were told they DO NOT take One4All vouchers... even though they are clearly printed in the book... Anyway, our room was clean, our view spectacular, the food was great too. One thing about our meal though we ordered pizza and fish n' chips. My fish n' chips came and there was no sign of my fiance's pizza for another 10 minutes. I really didn't like this.. Breakfast was good but finishes at 10am SHARP. The female staff at breakfast couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Our room had a complimentary bottle of wine but I'm pregnant so that was of no use to me. I wish them the best of luck with the rest of the season. It is a lovely location with friendly staff.
We stayed here July 7-9 2018 and we were pleased with the hotel overall. There were a few minor issues such as the water is cut off from 11:00pm to 7:00am every night in the main building and there is also no air conditioning in the main building. Although typically this is not a problem as the breeze from the ocean is sufficient. However we visited during a heat wave which made it slightly uncomfortable. The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful with everything you could possibly ask for. The food was delicious and the bar was lively and entertaining. If you are looking for beautiful views and a comfortable place to lay your head along the Ring of Kerry I highly suggest this hotel.
