awesome place for a haircut, and the line is short too.
Got an excellent haircut from Jeff. The best I've ever had. Just a normal men's haircut, he knew exactly what I needed. Very satisfied. $16. Took his time and is very friendly.
Went in and saw Russ (older looking barber). Asked if he could help me think of a new hairstyle and he had no suggestions whatsoever!! Showed him a picture of a hairstyle that had unique, slightly messy on the top styling due to products & asked him how I could achieve a similar look. He merely suggested "use gel" rather than telling me the best way to style my hair by comb, blow dry, etc. Doesn't know how to taper properly.
My grandfather used to take me here to get my hair cut when I was 6 years old. The owner then was named John, and it was awesome to see his son Jeff taking over the mantle and running with the business. I went in a week or so ago and worked with Peter. He took good care of me. It was fun to talk to the guys about all the changes over the last 25 years. I can say that the service and the quality of the haircut has not declined in at least that long. While I was waiting, I watched everyone interacting with their customers and the costumers chat, I could tell there was a community built around this business.
I love this place. Unfortunately, they are closed right now due to the mandate. I heard they are building outside areas to meet current requirements.
Friendly environment and a wide range of barbers. Great haircuts every time
Worst haircut experience ever. I asked the barber with afro hair if he does scissor cut. He said he does. Not only he screwed the hair cut, he is blaming my hair being curly for the worst hair cut I've ever seen. I finally told him to cut the whole hair completely. And for that he got 16$ dollars. It looks like any stupid can apply for the baber job.
I would never ever do it again. I rather cut it by my own than going there again
Been going to this barbershop since I was a little kid, had nothing but great experiences here. Will let my hair get a bit unruly in college just so I can get my haircut here. Despite the negative reviews for Russ I have never had anything but a positive experience with him, really a great guy once you get to know him. Moving out of state and I will miss this barbershop a bunch!
I dare you to do the following: tell the barber what you think a regular haircut is. I went in, described how I like my hair to be cut, and the barber argued with me, stating that what I described was a "regular haircut." Personally, I don't think there is a "regular" haircut, as everyone's hair is quite different. To cut to the chase, the barber was rude, ignorant, and quite argumentative. Definitely not the best costumer service.
Great people, happily accepted me even after their closing time (6pm)
Hours says they open at 11 on Sundays. Waited around until 11:15, nobody showed. Will not be returning.
Perhaps I happened to get a very unprofessional barber but the other barber did not say any single word to me since I entered the barbershop and as I asked some general questions about the price and the haircutting process. (I did not see a price chart.) So I could only take the senior barber (Russ) who was available at the moment (because I had an emergency). No welcome. Warm goodbye. I actually had read all the negative reviews before I went to this barbershop, but I did not want to believe them. I was also curious about the constant defense of the barbershop owner. So I went to this barbershop anyway and proved these negative reviews given by other customers with my own experience at the cost of $21, without a formal receipt. Only cash and checks are accepted. The barber's method, in short, is to cookie cut every layer of hairs with the same scissor. I told him that I hoped my outer layer of hairs could be a bit longer than the inner layer so that my hairs would be tamed, he said he knew that but it turned out to be the opposite. The barber thought he did a good job, though. :)
Go see D @ Davis Barber Shop and get a great hair cut ....everytime, this shop is VERY kid/family friendly as well.
I am a stingy, hair-obsessed, drama queen. And they made even ME happy.
Do not want a bad attitude, don't go. It s too garbage.
I love this place. Barber Jeff is an expert at cutting little boy's hair. He has the patience and skill to make the ruffians look like little gentlemen. This place is friendly and welcoming to undergrads and old men alike. Its an old fashioned, home town barber shop.
I'm pretty picky about barbers, but I've been going here for over four years. I like the old-timey feel of the place, and the barbers are professional and know what they're doing. Generally I try to get Russ (not sure of the negative comments--I've always had pleasant interactions with him) or Jeff, but everyone else in the place does a good job, also. My kids love the shop because of the toys and "drop bucket" of lollipops (and the dog, of course!) Having to pay in cash is a minor annoyance, and if you forget they let you run to an ATM. Recommended!
Max saved me after getting a terrible haircut from a barber down the street. Thanks again!
I came with my five year old son. I should have walked right out after no one said hello or any kind of greeting to begin with. Than a older man came in and asked if anyone needed a haircut, i prompted my son to say he wanted one, but became shy and the barber became irritated for the delay. After the hair cut i asked him to mist my sons hair with water just to lightly style it and gave me the rudest look, body language and overall jerkness for such a simple request. Never go there with your child
Appointment only, no walkins despite the last update on Gmaps.
Been going here over a year and always have had a good haircut. I'm pretty easy (hair wise, just a buzz cut) but I've tried all three barbers there and no issues. Sometimes the wait can be long during the morning because only one guy is there. The price is maybe a little above the average ($16), but overall friendly and clean place.
My ENTIRE haircut was done using a machine... The top part of my hair is pretty long so I was surprised that he used the clippers to cut the top of my hair. Most barbers use scissors on the top part and blend the sides, this guy did NOT do this, also my side burns were soooo uneven. Don t even get me started that he took a phone call in the middle of my haircut, super unprofessional. Also what s going on with the chairs at this place, I kept spinning the entire time i was sitting in his chair. Straight up waste of my money coming here, if i had known i was going to get such a bad haircut I would have had a 7 year old do it, and even then it would come out better!
Rude people who want to get you out of their seat as quick as possible.
Going here for a very long time. D and Jeff will treat you right.
I've been here about 5 times and this is easily my favorite barber shop in Davis, let alone place to get hair cut. I have great conversations with the barbers and it's one of the few old-school social experiences around and I support it 100%. They are very interesting people, they're quick, and they give great haircuts.
Definitely recommend!! Been here for the majority of my college time and always satisfied.
Good place to stop by for quick cuts. Affordable pricing with discounts for returning customers.
I had a great haircut here last week so we brought our 2.5 year old for his very first barbershop hair cut. Jeff was absolutely amazing. He talked and played with our kiddo and put him at ease. Not a single tear was shed and he looks absolutely amazing! Thanks Barber Jeff!!!
quality cuts at great prices. kids have plenty of tots available while they wait.
Worst haircut experience ever. I rather cut it by my own than going here again!
Okay guys I've been into multiple barbershop around California and this is the worst place I've been ever to. The barbers first of all are unskilled and if you ask them for something you want and they can't do it. They go to an alternative haircut instead, not even notifying you of it. So in the end your left with a mess and having to pay $16 for a haircut that you dislike. First time I disliked my haircut I asked him if he even knows how to do the style of haircut. He argued that he did but for the second time he failed again. Arrogant and poor behavior in his part
It was like a 20-30 minute wait on a Monday afternoon but I'm happy with my haircut.
They do women's and children's hair too!!! I always come here to get my hair cut and I am always pleased with the result. They are very friendly and work with you to make sure you get your perfect haircut. I highly recommend this barber shop to everyone.
Best haircuts in Davis! Jeff is great with the kids and we keep coming back. Our family has been coming here for over 12 years.
Demetrius is the man, great haircut everytime and its very affordable
I get my hair buzzed regularly (I m a woman with a short buzzed sidecut) and recently my old stylist botched it. After looking at the reviews that said these barbers were skilled with fades and tapered cuts and that they were attentive + listened to their clients I decided to call and ask if I could come in to talk to someone about my hair and see if they would be able to help with fixing/growing it out. I got brushed off and told I should go to a salon about that and was recommended a salon and given the name of a stylist who doesn t even work there. I m sure there was some good intention in there but this was really disappointing.
Did not get the haircut I wanted. The barber named Thomas did what he wanted with my hair after multiple times of me guiding him of what I wanted. Do not go here.
Great place, nice staff. Quick and quality service!
D gives the best haircuts make sure to go there and get your haircut!
This Russ is a tool. I walk in and see a gentlemen getting a massage. I thought he was a customer so I sit down. The guy giving the massage leaves and then the customer ( who I find out was Russ from the other guy who works there ) gets up and leaves too. He rides off on his bike. Doesn t say a word to me. Why do you employ this idiot. I just left.
Amazing. I never seen anything like it and I live in NY.
Loved it. Very attentive, down to earth and kind. Kept asking if I wanted it shorter/different anywhere instead of just assuming. As a woman with a really short cut, I sometimes get a surprised or confused look when I head to barber shops, but they didn't bat an eye. They seemed to really love working there; I really enjoyed being there- and the cut I left with! Will be back for sure.
Lacking customer service. Russ isn't the friendliest guy.
Jeff is great with little ones and he did a nice job with my son's haircut.
