Cool pub, great live music, but the service was slow to start (bar side). It improved throughout our stay but began with a need to request menus and drinks before any table service was offered - a request that was met with confusion. I've no issue ordering from the bar but it seemed unclear to the bartender why I was approaching when we were sat at a table. He requested service for us and all was well from there on out.

Walked pass this place a number of times and never went in. Finally got the chance and was worth the wait. First of all this place is way bigger than it looks from the outside with plenty of dining space and 4 bars. I haf the muscles, crab hush puppies and the O'Connell burger and every last dish was great. Will definitely be back here.

The pheasant salad is unique and is excellent. Other food is ok, but not amazing. Drinks are made with care, and the overall atmosphere is pleasant. The staff is attentive and friendly. Good happy hour spot...not a great dinner place (unless you order the pheasant)

Daniel O'Connell's in old Town Alexandria was very enjoyable. It offered the rare treat of live Irish music on a Sunday afternoon, more than a dozen interesting craft beers on tap (scads more bottled) and a range of food choices, from snacks to full dinners. We had excellent beer-battered onion rings, an inventive "Reuben eggroll," a good but slightly routine roasted veggies sandwich, and a corned beef and cabbage dinner. The dinner had generous servings of tender, thick-cut corned beef and homey mashed potatoes. The cabbage was roughly chopped and steamed , along with carrot rounds cut elegantly thin. There was a "parsley sauce" -- basically white sauce with parsley added. It was intriguing, but didn't turn out to add anything to the basics. Don't mean to sound cranky; we thoroughly enjoyed singer Brian Gaffney. The beers were lovely; the wait staff was attentive but never intrusive; and my only quibble was a sauce that wouldn't be my choice the next time I go to Daniel O'Connell's. And I certainly hope to go again!

Can be loud and night but very good food and a nice vibe. It is larger than it appears from the street and might be a bit too loud in back at night. The front area of the bar is separate and is a bit quieter

Let's be honest: When you hear the phrase Irish food, you don't necessarily think good food. But if you want good food, you shoud definitely think about the Irish bar O'Connells. This Old Town pub style restaurant is deceivingly bigger than what you would think. It's cozy and fun and the food is really tasty. It has a nice selection of beers and the menu from what we experienced was really good. Loved and I mean loved the bangers and mash. Just delicious. The fish-and-chips were really good and and huge portion. Reasonably priced for Old Town, this is definitely worth your stop.

Daniel O'Connell's is an authentic-feeling Irish pub with great food and a strong emphasis on local ingredients/beers. The staff are great, and given the size of the restaurant, it feels comfortable even when busy. I went with a group on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, and we were immediately seated and given service. If you are looking for a solid pub experience in Old Town, I would definitely recommend O'Connell's.

Irish pub and restaurant that does not disappoint. The building is nearly 200 years old. There are 2 bars on the first floor and one on the second. The main floor has small booths that make the restaurant feel cozy and private, even if the bar is packed! The corned beef and cabbage in a parsley cream sauce is unforgettable.

Great selection of crafts, both can and tap! Mike, our server, recommended a local wheat and that was a champion! I had the buffalo chicken salad and husband had lamb stew. Great choices! Fast service, cool vicinity. Worth a visit. Worth my coming back.

I can only review based on brunch, as I've never been for any other occasion.
The atmosphere was charming (it's in Old Town, though, so I'm not sure I would expect otherwise). The establishment sits in what used to be two historic row houses that got combined to from the restaurant space. This has lead to some unique architecture, but it adds up to be a pretty cool vibe all together.
The brunch drink specials are great. From 11 -3 there are $3 Bloody Marys, mimosas and bellinis . The brunch food is pretty good too. It's not mind-blowing, but it's pretty good for what it is. Service was good too - prompt and friendly.
Will probably be returning

I like this place. Every time we are there, it's crazy packed though (weekends). I don't live close enough for it to be my hang out, regularly but it seems like the kind of place that I would go for an afternoon beer. It's a large place but there's lots of tight spaces so when it gets busy, it's hard to move around but for the type of architecture in the place it's really a beautiful place. The staff are not exceptionally nice but adequately server-like. Over all its a good place to go. We were there for the Saturday night before St. Paddy's day, it was craziness.

An amazing place, in my opinion. Food is great and the staff are good people. A great place to hang out especially to watch sports or just listen to the live music they have. Last time some friends and I had a waiter who explained a lot about the locale to us since we didn't know the area very well.

The bar is great but the Bartender Filip J is a HORRIBLE Bartender! Not only did he not know how to make a raspberry bomb, he cheated me on the pour! He charged me for 5 shots when he poured 2 shots worth of alcohol. So I of course didn't tip him. While I was there I approached the Manager and explained that the Bartender had cheated me on the shots. I let him know that I am also a Bartender and know how to pour a correct shot. I explained that the Bartender thought he could shake 2 shots and make it seem like it was 5. (I know that Bartenders get that drunk A hole that complains "there isn't any alcohol in here" and I personally despise "those people". This however is not one of those cases... A. I wasn't personally drinking because I had an early flight and didn't want to be hungover and B. I'm a bartender and know how to pour appropriately. I don't want more than I deserve but I sure as hell want what I paid for.) Anyway the Manager apologized and bought us a few beers. I thought that was the end of it... But I held onto my receipt and CC receipt because I know a shady bartender when I see one. Sure enough I get home and see that Filip J went ahead and TIPPED HIMSELF! Yeah I know he was pissed he didn't get tipped... But getting tipped isn't a right! No you earn that tip by giving good service and not cheating your customers. You sure as hell don't add a tip and break the law by stealing! He is a piece of crap and deserves to be fired.
**Edit** The manager called me back and apologized. She was very pleasant and explained that's not how they do things. She took care of the bill and assured me the bartender would be spoken with. I can appreciate that because that's how I personally would've handled it had it happened at my bar.

Everything you'd expect from an Irish Pub but nothing more. Good Irish Beers on tap. We were seated by the cordial host within 35 seconds, but sat for 10 minutes before we got our drink order taken, despite being passed by staff 6-9 times. The waitress didn't seem to care or even want to be there. Luckily the bar tender did and took care of us. The team work could definitely improved there. The food was good (corned beef and cabbage) but the service and friendly atmosphere definitely lacked. 3 star rating for their business.

Nicely done lean corned beef with cabbage and steamed carrots standing on their own were right darn good. The mashers were dry and chalky however. Couldn't really prove by me whether they came out of a box or out of a skin! Just hoping maybe they had run out of the good stuff late on New Year's night? The Irish stew was rich and decent. I'd grab a salad or something w/ that if I was you.
Beautiful portals, nooks, lecterns, and paneling throughout provide lots of privacy options if you like and are obviously recovered from what had been a fine old church somewhere. If you're Irish or Catholic you should feel right at home. Especially in the confessional booth?
Knowledgeable and forthright staff and all in all we had a right fine time. Thanks!

This is my favorite restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. We take everyone who visits here for dinner. It has a great atmosphere with live music. You can choose to sit at the bar or in a booth with a group. If the music us too loud for conversation, they have rooms upstairs for dining and bar seating as well. I highly recommend the Irish Eggrolls as a starter then work your way through the menu.
