#. A TOTAL STAND ALONE, reputed NGO, without any Government support.
Assessment - 1 = as a Crocodile Park
#. Crocodile Bank = To be given 5 Star!
#. A HUGE Group of Crocodiles, well fed & maintained
Assessment - 2 = as a Reptile Bank
#. OK, as a venom extracting centre, it may be good
#. But, much as a Reptile Park, it may be very great, at this point of time.
Assessment - 3 = as a Family Park
#. May be for City people, for a break, it may be fine.
Overall, the environment is clean and worth visiting once.
Very Special Sight:
#. Hundreds of Crocodiles in one yard.. Great..

A good place to kill some time for people who're curious about reptiles. It's not much interesting to roam around after evening 6 though as all the animals will be asleep. The guide who shows around is really good, he'll brief us on the origin and nature of each and every species in an interesting way. Sundays have feeding sessions for the crocodiles during afternoon and morning. It takes maximum of two hours to complete the whole park and it is worth it!

it's a good place to spend few hours of your weekend. The venom extraction centre is a special attraction. They have hundreds of snakes in clay pots, and they show an extraction on demand. There are 4 varieties of poisonous snake with them.
The number of crocodiles is too much, I think even more than the carrying capacity of the place. but overall nice place, and the place is not that big also that you get tired after walking. volunteers and staff are cordial and well trained. They conduct walks and give information on all varieties.

There was an article from Vikatan recently about this place & we visited it today. It was worth a visit & particularly we really liked live venom extraction show. Their entry fee for Adult is 60 and for kids between 3 to 10, it s 30, which is really high considering the amount of time we can get to spend inside, however in order to feed and maintain that many number of reptiles inside, we can pay that!

If you want to know anything about reptiles (from all over the world) this is the place to go to. They have well maintained enclosures that clearly explain the facts about each crocodile/alligator/snake/turtle/lizard etc... The staff are helpful. It takes about an hour to see the whole park. If you have a little more time see the venom extraction (seperate ticket required). There is no charge for camera. Try to be there around noon when the python gets fed 15 mice!

This is a nice place for the nature and wildlife lovers. The night safari starts at 7 pm sharp and it is for an hour, ends at 8 pm. There will be a guide to show you around the place. You have to walk around the place. A torch will be given to you by the guide. Various types of reptiles are there. And in the darkness you will get the flavour of a jungle. And you will see the eyes of the crocodiles shining in the torch light. Overall a good experience. Good for a one time visit.

About Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust

Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust: A Conservation Organization with a Difference

Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust is a non-profit organization that has been working towards the conservation of reptiles and their habitats for over four decades. Founded in 1976 by Romulus Whitaker, an eminent herpetologist, the organization has grown to become one of the most respected and successful conservation organizations in India.

The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology is located on the East Coast Road near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The center was established with the aim of conserving crocodiles and other reptiles that are native to India. Over time, it has expanded its scope to include research, education, and outreach programs.

Conservation Efforts

The primary focus of Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust is on conserving crocodiles and other reptiles that are threatened or endangered. The organization works closely with local communities to create awareness about these animals and their importance in maintaining ecological balance.

One of the key initiatives undertaken by Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust is captive breeding programs for endangered species such as gharials (Gavialis gangeticus) and saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus). These programs have been highly successful in increasing population numbers of these species.

In addition to captive breeding programs, Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust also conducts research on various aspects related to reptile biology such as behavior, ecology, genetics etc. This research helps in understanding these animals better which can then be used for developing effective conservation strategies.

Education Programs

Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust believes that education plays a crucial role in creating awareness about conservation issues among people. To this end, it conducts various educational programs aimed at school children as well as adults.

For school children, there are interactive sessions where they can learn about different types of reptiles found in India along with their habitat requirements etc. There are also field trips organized where students can observe these animals up close in their natural habitats.

For adults interested in volunteering or gaining hands-on experience in herpetology or wildlife conservation more broadly speaking there are opportunities available at Madras Crocodile bank trust centre itself! Volunteers get trained under experts who teach them how to handle different types of snakes safely while also providing them with knowledge regarding snake identification techniques etc., which will help them contribute towards wildlife protection efforts later on!

Outreach Programs

Apart from education programs targeted at schools and colleges within Tamil Nadu state itself; Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust also conducts outreach activities aimed at creating awareness among general public about issues related to wildlife conservation more broadly speaking!

These activities include talks given by experts on topics such as snakebite management techniques; exhibitions showcasing different types of snakes found across India along with information regarding their habitat requirements etc.; film screenings highlighting success stories related to wildlife protection efforts taken up by organizations like Madras croc bank trust itself!

Conclusion:

In conclusion we can say that Dakshin Foundation/Madras Crocodile Bank Trust is an organization dedicated towards protecting our natural heritage through its various initiatives focused around research & development; education & outreach activities aimed at creating awareness among general public regarding issues related specifically towards wildlife protection efforts taken up by organizations like themselves! If you're interested volunteering or learning more about herpetology/wildlife conservation then this could be just what you've been looking for!
