For amateurs and on the spot I would say it was very good. Price is very reasonable for a good laugh
Wonderful comedy - the actors have great rapport and the games are actually pretty great. Service is decent, and drink prices are a bit high, but tickets are reasonably priced. Overall, definitely a fun night out.
Went with my husband and 2 daughters, ages 5 and 9. The 5 year old was a bit young to keep up with the fast paced jokes, but still had fun. The 9 year old LOVED it, wants to go back! Everyone was so kind, inclusive, and funny! Wonderful show, well worth the money, great family night out. Highly recommend!
Terrible! If I had the same sense of humor as a 6 yr old girl who sat in front row maybe I would have enjoyed it too. Seemed like inside jokes and language only the "comedians" got. So stupid. If these comedians were being picked to make teams these were the last draft pics! Between there exaggerated faces and laughing at their own jokes and stomping around it was obnoxious and worse than dental work! Atleast you get laughing gas at the dentist!
Low cost, high value entertainment. This is not your button-up couple of chuckles kind of place. This is a make you feel like a kid, goofy, laugh til it hurts kind of place.
Great family fun. Safe to bring children. They will enjoy it along with the adults. Lots of interaction with the audience. Every show is different so go to multiple shows in one night. You had to shlep there anyway, right? Bar and refreshments available. Stairs up to the theatre. I did not see an elevator.
Hilarious! Hard to describe improv since it's always different, but I'm never disappointed in ComedySportz. Bring your student id for half price tickets, go on Wednesday for the 2$ bill and get on stage to try it out for yourself! This place is so much fun.
Our family spent NYE here! Comedy Sportz is the best family friendly entertainment option for tweens and above. I know with my son we can hardly agree on things these days but CS never disappoints. We all enjoy the show! They have a bar too and snacks...all at reasonable prices. It's easy to make a night of it on Belmont with lots of dinner options and Comedy Sportz...and you won't break the bank!
Friend and I went over the weekend and had a great time! Show was great & the comedians did a great job! Good for all ages!
Great improv to be seen here! Would recommend you stop in and see a show, not too far from the Brown/Red/Purple lines either.
Went with a large group. I didn't find it funny, but some in my group thought it was hilarious.
Great place to bring friends for a night of Improv...Def bring friends crowd can be hit or miss
This place is AMAZING! They are so kind and easy to work with I had a problem with my card getting over charged and they handled it graciously. Our bartender was really quick and fun as well as knowledgeable. Come out to #comedyspotzchi and have a gut laughing time.
This place is beond amazing I laughed so hard I almost died and the drinks are amazing.
took improv 101 and really enjoyed it. i'm not that funny but loved the games and not taking myself so seriously
This was my first night out in Chi. and went to see the improv and the hot karl show last night. had a blast.. improv was a blast and the hot karl was that a dirty show... the content was appropriate for the rowd and was awesome how the crowd set the mood. drink were great and ctually decent pricing.. benny is AMAZING and a great guy to take care of you on a first timer.. cant wait for more trips up to the city and every time will propably take a trip over to see the show of the night.. its good to know it will never be the same show again and again!!!!
Family friendly fun and a great little bar? What else could you want. The ensemble here is electric.
OK show but there is no idea about customer service. We were a big group(half the audience) and waiters stuffed us into a small little corner where we sat practically on top of each other. No good reason was given for the terrible space and the staff could not have cared a bit. Go to Second City for better customer service and laughs.
Don't listen to the negative reviews. I brought by 10- and 15-year-old boys and they had a blast! The humor is clean but there's underlying humor for adults. Loved it!
Very engaging entertainment. A great way to kick off or supplement an evening.
So funny! These guys were impressive doing everything off the top of their heads. The price wasn't too expensive so it was something that we would definitely do again if we were just searching for something to do on a night. And they have different comedians and shows going on so it would never be the same thing twice.
My first time trying the stand up comedy show in teams. They were 2 teams competing to be the funnier one. Audience threw in some verbs and nouns, they improvise on the spot and make them a show. The interactivity impressed me.
I've been to improv shows that are totally boring and haven't laughed once... this place is not like that. I've been twice and both times I was laughing the entire time. The players are inventive and know how to keep things rolling. It's a really fun atmosphere. Plus, they have a bar right outside the theater so you can get drinks in between laughing.
This is a great comedy theatre and depending on which show you go to it's really family friendly as well. I usually like to go on Wednesdays when they have their $2 shows but I've been to their Friday night shows too and they're always hilarious. The Wednesday shows are so cheap because they are mostly students performing for the first time but I always have liked them. One thing they could improve on is getting more waitresses and selling food. You can't bring outside food in so if you're starving you're stuck buying $3 pretzels :(
After a show at this theater, a drunken employee shoved me aside and slammed the door of a back entrance as performers were moving in and out from back stage. He slammed this door as college improvisers, unfamiliar with this theater and welcomed here for a national tournament, made their way to gather their belongings and leave.
When my friend and I confronted the manager about this horrendous behavior, he listened to our concerns, did nothing to reassure us this was anything but normal or reassure that this employee would be talked to ---and promptly dismissed my friend and I from the theater. As an improviser, lover and patron of the arts, I am embarrassed that anyone would be treated this way inside of a theater ever. I hope for their sake, the employee who was drunk on the job has been fired. I will continue to give my poor review of this establishment to anyone who will listen.
Awesome place for a night out. Everyone is on point with their improv and they love getting the crowd involved!
Fun stuff. Been twice, good with kids, teenagers, and adults
This place needs better advertising. No, strike that, I don't want everyone knowing about it. It's a great little show, super reasonable price, family friendly, wonderful fun way to spend a night. Short walk from the Red Line at Belmont, great places to eat nearby.
Clean and hilarious!!!!! Attended 3 or 4 times, whenever I go to Chicago!
Great comedy that is family friendly. Full bar and table service during the show.
Very fun and family friendly, great place to enjoy a few laughs and bring anyone you want, the sports theme helps bring out everyone's competitive side as well
I was only at The ComedySportz Theatre once, but had a really great time laughing my ass off. Improv comedy can be funny, awkward, or not funny at all, but the ComedySportz teams kept the audience going all night. The games they play keep the the show moving and the audience participation parts added to the fun.
The shows are good light-hearted humor. Nothing raunchy. The show I was at had kids in the audience, and one of them actually volunteered to get on stage with them, so family friendly? Either way...good times!
There's a commercial on TV right now that says, "when banks compete, you win." This is the same concept, except replace "banks" with "comedians." Either way, you win. This is comedy meets capitalism. By that I mean 2 groups of comedians will compete for the audience's approval in order to win. No comedy place I've been to gets more audience-centric than this. Not only does the audience choose the winner, but they are also summoned to the stage (whether they want to or not) to be a part of the act. I've been twice and I'd love to go back.
These guys know how to have fun. They re fully alive and in the space of a couple hours create a community that brings out the best of everyone. Well worth every penny.
Nice room and great staff. Caught the late show (discount!) Good energy, funny bits. Worth a late night visit.
A google search for "family friendly comedy" resulted in a family outing to ComedySportz one weekend. The show went beyond our expectations. The show was entertaining, fast-paced, clever. I believe the competitive aspect of this improv makes it unique and brings out more laughs. We recently brought along a party of 31 and we found the show consistently delivers solid laughs. It's worth the trip!
We went to an 8pm show on. Friday with our 6 and 9 year old and they both loved it. We re in town for a short family vacation and this was a last minute find which turned out to be one of their favorite experiences. The improve teams are very talented and the crowd participation is excellent. My daughter was on stage and they had several other children participate in the show. There is a small bar with alcohol and non-alcohol drinks. The snack selection is limited with bags of chips, crackers and candy, but it is reasonably priced. The theater is clean and right across from the Belmont station which is easily accessible. We re definitely going to come back again and will look for other Comedy Sporz theaters when we travel.
Whether it is the main CSZ show or the Dual Duel on Sundays or any other show they might be having, ComedySportz is my absolute favorite place for improv. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and relaxed. They deliver quality hilarity and most shows are family friendly, so why not? Smart comedy out of the blue? Yes please. Drink prices are very reasonable and it is so close to the Belmont Red line. Go!
Every show here is solid.
Both the regular and 'blue' shows are always fall out of your seat funny.
The teams are always lively and you can bring your beverages into the theatre.
Thanks for entertaining our family! Clean funny humor. 9, 13, 14 year old boys had a great time.
This place was a lot of fun. Went with some family and we had a blast. We got there right before it started and still got great seats. Drinks were good too. We bought our tickets on Goldstar and they ended up being a bit cheaper. The comedy is family friendly, meaning no vulgarity. There were quite a few kids at the theater. I would highly recommend this place.
I have repeatedly been blown away at the intelligent comedy coming from the stage. These performers are so incredibly talented with really tough games! There is a ton of audience participation (but not too much!) to keep things lively and engaging. A MUST SEE!
This is an amazing place! Super fun and energetic comedians who make the audience feel included. Highly recommend a visit!
It is a little cheesy, and the actors tend to try too hard. But it is fun for the under 18 crowd.
Comedy Sportz is a riot!! Nine comics, 7 on-stage having a comedy competition with the audience involved. I was wondering how they could fill 90 minutes but I greatly underestimated their improvisational abilities. Wow! I was traveling with a high school group and they did an excellent job of keeping it appropriate and riotous. One hundred and ten thumbs up!
would no recommend this show if your kids are under 15. They sat all teenagers in the front while sitting all kids in back. My kids were so sad they couldn't see anything. I have tried to explain that to the man who sat us. I felt I flushed $100 in the toilet. Will not come back.
Hilarious show you can bring anyone to. They've been in this space for 10 years, but they've been doing improv comedy in the city for 30. Very funny. Great to bring someone to who's never seen improv before.
Great time.late shows if you are a busy workaholic! Small stage but maintains quality performance. Engaged audience. You really appreciate the Art of Improv.
The players have a lot of fun and it rubs off on the customers -I mean "Loyal Fans!" :)
Me and my wife love this place during the week they have clean comedy without profanity so it's great for the family and kids and you can always find good prices on Groupon or some other deal website The Improv is great they really know what they're doing top-notch experts
I only saw the House Party show here so this only based solely off that. If you like game driven improv with lots of audience input this is the place for you. But beware with this format style a lot of the burden of a good show is placed on the audience and how the players interact with the audience. It can be painful. Sometimes it really works, sometimes not so much. But with a price of $5 why not take the gamble.
8PM show was a great atmosphere for the whole family. But if you are going there with your friends that you went to college with, go to the late night show because the 8pm show can get kinda cheesy,
This place is an amazing experience, The show was highly entertaining and they kept things appropriate for all ages.
Always a great time! They even accommodate kids but cleaning up their language.
Really good show that I would honestly recommend for anyone. The actors/comedians (IDK what to call them) are very interactive with the crowd, and the whole concept is very cool. They all have very good improvisational skills, and definitely will make you laugh. The games are all creative, and they have reasonably priced food and drink during the break.
This was a very fun time had by our group. We went to the early 6pm show, there was a full house andafun group. This is a family comedy show, kids are welcome and participate. I highly recommend this comedy show for all ages of people.
Awesome space very open and fun. The players are really cool and funny as hell.
Very unique comedy show where two team of comedians "spar" against each other with ad-libbed, free form comedy for shows that last about 90 minutes. Limited beverage and snack selections.
This is one of my favorite spots to go see some comedy shows. They are always working on bettering the experience for the viewer, and after going there for a year, they have put together a solid experience. Reasonably priced, so its great when you're looking for something fun to do. Make sure you're a good spectator and give them ideas when they ask for them.
I LOVE improv and ComedySportz is probably the only improv theater in the city that does family-friendly shows that adults will absolutely love, too. I was rolling on the floor in stitches laughing after some of the skits. The cast is incredibly talented and down to earth. I even took three sets of improv lessons there and had a total blast. This is hands down my favorite improv theater in all of Chicago.
Enjoyed this show a lot more than I thought I would! The small, intimate venue and drinks poured lower inhibitions. They do a great job of incorporating the audience into the show, either by suggesting ideas/themes or by bringing audience members onstage to be a part of the show. I was thoroughly impressed and entertained by this. Highly recommend it for birthdays or fun nights out on the town!
We were looking for a family activity while in town and ended up getting tickets for the House Party show on April 14th. It was so fun for everybody, and Nikko (sp) was especially welcoming. The kids had a blast sitting right up front. Thanks to all of the comedians who work so hard and are willing to take risks for a laugh. We WILL be back!!!
