Its a shame how many people come here for assistance on the daily. Mecklenburg county and NC need to do better, however its a great resource, yes some things need tweaked. Glad to see they added (or looks like it) more chairs and a vending area. They need speakers in the bathroom so you can hear if your called. I only gave it 4 stars because, well it sucks having to go here and how limited they are in assisting. Its great for 30days and they can help guide you with resources but what happens in 30 days? You're stuck again. Not enough programs or help in self-sufficiency in this area. Kind of more like a band-aid on a stage 4 wound.

The work that they do is outstanding. The staff really work hard to serve the public. They really need volunteers. Please help. They except individuals, groups and children as young as 5 as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

This place is stressful..you come to them in a crisis and sit there for hours just to be told they can't help you and come back another day. I know its not they fault but feel they should come up with a better way...why have someone sit and wait 2 to 4 hours and can't help..its really hurtful and stressful especially if this is your first and last hope

No one wants to find themselves down or on hard times, but Crisis Assistance, made my moment not just a moment, but a true blessing getting to visit with each associate, volunteer, and every other person there in the same position as I found myself in. Thank you, Crisis Assistance, from the bottom of my heart and my family.

If you are seeking rental assistance, I highly recommend choosing another avenue if at all possible. My rental application was started 12/28 and I finally got a call back on 1/14 for what I thought would FINALLY be an interview, but it was more along the lines of an accusation trial and lecture. Moral of the story, all that matters is what is written on paper, not your other bills, not your financial situation, paystubs only. In the mind of this business rent is the only financial obligation people have and any other bills or necessities such as food mean nothing.

How can I not give a place like this 5-Stars? This is a place that helps the needy with things like your rent, power bill, household needs, clothes etc. When you are in need of a helping hand or you're having a problem making ends meet, go here. Be prepared for a wait but whether you go for yourself or to bring a friend the time spent will be worthwhile!!!! You never know when you may need a Helping Hand!

Unlike other times I have visited, the checkout ladies were trash talking about the patrons and the one who checked me out told me that I had too many children's books, a bonus item, without a limit published anywhere. I asked her how many to put back, she didn't answer. I put several back and she said, "I'll get that."

They help alot of people. But I don't understand why they want you to be in a status that cost them more money to help you. It would seem to make more since to help you before you get to the point of added fees. Save the organization money to help other people with.

I went there for my first time to see if I could ...

I went there for my first time to see if I could get assistance to pay my light bill it was on a Friday and my disconnection date was set for Friday to pay a minimum amount of $277.77.I arrived at the place about 7:30 am and there was already a line so from the time of opening (8am) until 9:30 I was finished all to be told to come back Monday morning, now I asked them if everything was good because disconnection date is scheduled for today I was advised that they ve contacted Duke energy they have a direct line and that I have until Monday. I was a little apprehensive but the clerk was like look at my name (showing me her name tag)and was like I wouldn t tell you anything wrong I was like ok Monday came around I went back up there arrived around the same time 7:30 am and left this time 10:50 am, all to be told I was way over the income limit and didn t qualify I seen the first clerk and she verified income, bills and other debts she calculated everything and told me that I was over the income limit but I will get called again by another clerk and that they use a different calculator so chances were 50/50, but the second clerk told me the same thing.I felt like the first clerk should of had the same calculation/calculator as the next clerk, that s time wasted for nothing considering I had to pick my kid up from high school at 10:30.This is just one of my complaints. When I came home to pay my bill I noticed that the minimum amount was not there it was requesting $402.31 so I called and advised rep I was trying to pay my bill but the minimum amount was not showing anymore, they told me that that amount was due by Friday. I said I went to Crisis Ministry on Friday to see if I could get assistance with my bill they told me to come back on Monday and that they ve called in and my disconnection date wasn t until 2-10-2020 .She told me they didn t put in a commitment for it so that was why the system requested a different amount, now mind you I was already trying to get assistance to pay my past due amount then I m told that amount is no longer acceptable I was livid ,fortunately Duke energy was able to work out something because Crisis Ministry put me in bind even more. I just feel like Communication needs to VERY TRANSPARENT I was able to get something worked out they accepted the minimum amount and allowed me more time to pay the difference. In my experience and situation it was Duke energy that helped me in my Crisis not Crisis Ministry. My advice if you find yourself needing to resort to them just make sure you ask plenty of questions and make sure they re as transparent with you as a crystal ball!

If I could go any lower than one star I would. Just to think that a person works and try not to come there unless I am in desperate need of some help... in which I am/was. When being there since 730 am and finally getting seen at 330pm I wasn't even given a chance when I was in the interview room. The lady poked and poked around on her computer insisting on finding a reason not to give me an assistance. Mind you I have most of the money, just not all. She gave me a slip of paper and told me to provide her with proof of the residence in my home and said "That's it." The people here act as if the money is coming from their own bank account. I understand there are people who come as often as they can and try any means necessary to abuse the system, but NOT EVERYONE does that!!! I ABSOLUTELY HATE going to this place! They make you feel lower than what you already feel in the situation that you are facing. She disregarded that there are 4 kids in my home she just focused on things that I felt had no relevance to the reason I was there in the first place.

They need to change they standards of how they assist people that trying to get help when helping themselves, meaning if you see a person work and still need help , have to go thru so many lies and wrong way of getting assistance, and the Mexicans can get more help than a United States of America Citizen and that is a shame

I was passed over for assistance because the "case worker" misread my form and didn't believe me when I politely told her so. I'm glad they're here to help but it's pretty sad I was passed over simply because someone couldn't admit that they had made a mistake.

Thank you for helping but wasting a lot of time waiting. This means that you need at least 4 or 5 hours and maybe you will not find anything worth all this time because the person who entered before you has taken everything and can not find anything and has already closed the day I attended Without a thing, the subject needs a different way and a different management for the success of this work. Thank you. Another problem is that every time you need to fill out the form or application about the details of your information this takes extra time and effort why the identity of the visitors is not printed and used when entering The registration of the name and the end of the subject. This is very complicated

Crisis Ministries: Providing Assistance and Advocacy for People in Financial Crisis

Crisis Ministries, also known as Crisis Assistance Ministry, is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community since 1975. The mission of the organization is to provide assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency.

The organization was founded by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for emergency financial assistance in their community. Over the years, Crisis Ministries has grown to become one of the largest providers of emergency financial assistance in Mecklenburg County.

Crisis Ministries provides a range of services to help individuals and families facing financial crisis. These services include emergency rent and utility assistance, clothing vouchers, furniture vouchers, and referrals to other community resources. In addition to these services, Crisis Ministries also offers financial education classes and job readiness training programs.

The organization works closely with local government officials and other community organizations to address systemic issues that contribute to poverty in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Through its advocacy efforts, Crisis Ministries aims to create lasting change that will benefit all members of the community.

In order to fund its programs and services, Crisis Ministries relies on donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and faith-based organizations. The organization also operates two thrift stores – one in Charlotte and one in Monroe – which generate revenue through sales of donated goods.

If you are interested in supporting Crisis Ministries’ mission or learning more about its programs and services, there are several ways you can get involved. You can make a donation online or by mail; volunteer your time at one of their locations; or shop at one of their thrift stores.
