About Creative land trust
Creative Land Trust has been established to secure long term, affordable space for creatives, ensuring a vibrant future for this critical industry.
Creative Land Trust: Securing Affordable Space for Creatives
Creative Land Trust is a non-profit organization that has been established to secure long-term, affordable space for creatives. The organization recognizes the importance of the creative industry and aims to ensure its vibrant future by providing a sustainable solution to the problem of rising rents and property prices.
The creative industry is an essential part of our society, contributing significantly to our economy and culture. However, many creatives struggle with high rents and lack of affordable space, which can lead to displacement and loss of livelihoods. Creative Land Trust seeks to address this issue by acquiring properties that will be leased at below-market rates exclusively for use by creatives.
The trust's mission is not only about securing affordable space but also about creating a supportive community where artists can thrive. By bringing together like-minded individuals in shared spaces, Creative Land Trust fosters collaboration and innovation while providing access to resources such as workshops, equipment, and mentorship programs.
One significant advantage of Creative Land Trust's approach is that it provides stability for both tenants and landlords. Property owners who lease their buildings or land through the trust benefit from knowing that their assets are being used for a good cause while receiving steady income from long-term leases. Meanwhile, tenants have peace of mind knowing they won't be priced out or forced out due to gentrification or other market forces.
Creative Land Trust has already made significant strides in securing affordable space for creatives in London. In 2019 alone, it acquired three properties totaling over 23k square feet leased at below-market rates exclusively for use by artists.
The trust's success has been recognized with several awards such as the New London Architecture Award in 2020 under the category "Housing - Completed Projects." This recognition highlights how Creative Land Trust's innovative approach can provide solutions not just for housing but also other sectors facing similar challenges.
In conclusion, Creative Land Trust offers an innovative solution to the problem of rising rents and lack of affordable space for creatives. By securing long-term leases at below-market rates, the trust provides stability for both tenants and landlords while fostering a supportive community where artists can thrive. With its proven track record, Creative Land Trust is poised to make a significant impact on the creative industry's future in London and beyond.
