Courtyard Marriott Downtown at USC Review

Spent 2 weeks there. Lots of complaints. And I'm a non conflict person. This place just messed up so many times, I could not resist. First-tiny garage. Do not even try to park there is you have something bigger than Toyota Corolla.Go on top floor to outdoors parking right away. Also garage leaks and will drop huge chunks of paint/putty on your car making a mess. Secondly, main lobby smells like burned electronics/wire insulation most of the time. Third- room sound insulation is close to non existent. You will hear drunk kids outside, jerks doing burnouts and all sirens that are common in that area. Expect to be woken up frequently. Fourth- although burgers and fries are great there, chicken will be something out of cheapest can from Walmart that had expired 2 years ago. Fifth- bathrooms vents are tiny, 2x4 holes, with no fans. It does not extract vapor/steam at all, so you can't see a thing after taking a shower, risking to misstep on slippery floor and killing yourself. Expect fire alarms to be tripped often in the middle of the night because of that vapor and expect to be slapped with a $250 fine "for smoking", if your room tripped smoke detector after taking shower, even if you don't smoke. If it will be allowed later on, I will add pictures and maybe a video evidence, from PC(typing this from cell phone).

Overall a good stay. There was construction outside my room at 6am. Room was nice and clean. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Easy walking access to a bunch of restaurants and the whole campus. They do have a convoluted policy about using restaurant credits within a certain time period or they expire. Apparently it's that way at every Courtyard now.

Always like to stay here. It's very close to the downtown restaurants and the rooms are always clean and accommodating

We had a great stay at Courtyard Columbia downtown. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The room was perfect. Food was great.

The hotel staff at the front desk were very nice and very helpful. The hotel is in a great location in Columbia. They have Starbucks coffee for sale downstairs which is a plus. The room was okay, but the bathroom was very small and hard to get ready in. It was all very clean which is important to me.

The hotel is nice and the rooms are clean.... but.... it is about a quarter mile from a very active train track. So if you can't sleep due to outside sirens, cars passing by and a train horn about every hour to hour and a half... find somewhere else.

Courtyard Columbia Downtown at USC is a great hotel in the middle of Columbia and close to the campus of the University of South Carolina. This is one of my favorite hotels in Columbia as it is convenient to everything and great for doing business and having meetings. The hotel is always clean and well maintained and smells good which is important for a hotel. The staff is super helpful and friendly and does everything that they can to make sure that everyone has the best stay possible. I have had a very positive experience and the breakfast, snacks and drinks are outstanding. This is an awesome hotel.

Hotel is amazing. So many good qualities, good beds, good people, and a great dance floor.

Nice except for the waking up at 4 o clock for MEPS

It was a great stay. The room was well taken care of and very clean. The staff was kind and did all they could to assist me. The food there also didn't fail to amaze me. I enjoyed it overall.

If you stay with a room facing Assembly Street... good luck trying to actually sleep. The noise from the road was too loud to sleep comfortably... of course no mention from the hotel of this problem. They just stick you with the room and the bill. We also left our luggage on a cart because our room was not ready but we had to be somewhere... when we got back, our stuff was not to be found on a cart but dumped in a filthy storage closet. We had to retrieve it ourselves. Also the parking deck has a 6ft clearance... any SUV with a rack will scrape the clearance bar. Of course they don't tell you that. Good thing we didn't have our roof carrier on.

Food was expensive but without merit. Nice staff but not a good place to eat.

Nice hotel with good staff and recently renovated rooms. Some questionable food safety practices by banquet staff.

Hotel is nice though it is a very noisy area. They do provide earplugs. I used a white noise app on my phone and slept great.

I want to give a specific shout to Holly at this hotel. There was a mix-up with reservations and charges and she was very calm and helpful. She went above and beyond for me. Aside from that, I love this hotel. The rooms are nice, and it's in a great location for my needs.

Literally the best service. The staff is unbelievable in their kind service. 5 stars all around.

If you're in Columbia South Carolina this is really one of the best places to stay Columbia is a cool little town with all the shops and restaurants very walkable to the campus it's just a cool little town

I'm going to meps and the hotel accommodations are amazing.

No elevator in garage. Require you to return to car and put card on dash at 10 o'clock.

Nice rooms, really courteous staff, well stocked bar. Overall just a nice place to stay.

The hotel is amazing. Very comfortable and clean (which says a lot). I could say that it has good luxury. Very modern as well. It has a cool place outside in the pool that is looks like it's recently new. Rooms are amazing as well. Nothing bad to say about it, in fact it was amazing!

Good hotel right in the heart of downtown ColaSC. Staff was awesome and kept there composure when it seems the courtesy van drive left us out in the cold for it seems a long time.

The refrigerator and AC in our room was way to loud and kept waking me up this visit. Like others the parking garage will test your driving abilities!

I would still suggest a stay at the property when a visit to town.

UPDATE

New year and totally new review of the existing property. We came to the property to find out that the courtesy van didnt start its run till 3ish. But the manager Ben took total control of the situation and decided to take us to our event himself. I was very impressed with his automatic assessment of what he could do to make our stay better. The pickup from our event was handled expertly this year for sure.

Unfortunately we had book on a busy weekend for the property so they put us into a dual queen room, which for my wife and I was a pretty big disappointment. Just because I try to keep my points for the best experiences. Ben worked with us to make me feel like he understood my issues, while making all the guests feel comfortable.

Highly recommend the property when staying in Columbia

I really enjoyed my stay. The beds were very soft and everyone was so helpful. I especially liked the tea tree shampoo and conditioner in the shower. I also enjoyed having a 24hr Starbucks downstairs in the main lobby.

A nice hotel but the train blows the horn all night keeping you up. There are ear plugs available for use

Great hotel. Desk clerk, Ashley, went out of her way to ensure guest received excellent service, and is one of the best employees I've encountered at any hotel.

It is clean, the staff are nice, and the beds are comfy. But it does lack some of the things that cheaper hotels provide.

I was only at the Marriott for half a day at a seminar, but all the associates I encountered were very nice and helpful. Also the bar downstairs was great when I needed some caffeine.

Beautiful hotel, recently renovated and very up to date. The climate control worked great on the room, quiet, and plenty of hot water! Bed was very comfortable. Staff was very polite and pleasant.

They denied me a ride on the transportation bus due to a policy of only 3 miles and my house was 3.4 literally and I was on a Harley and had to check in my dig at home but still denied and I got soaked and rode thru a storm....... Will not be staying there again

The space was great for the event and the lunch was delicious.

Very friendly people. I was in the gym and it was freezing . Without asking, a staff member called a maintenance person to turn it on. They went above and beyond.

This is one of the nicest hotels i have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The staff was cordial and extremely helpful. i look forward to actually staying there.

Went there for a college visit at usc was very happy with the hotel. Food is not worth buying though

I stayed here with two other friends for a concert at the Colonial Life Arena. The walk to the Arena from the hotel if about 4 blocks and not a bad walk at all. Staff was courteous and prompt.

I stayed here during MEPS they treated us like kings. I would gladly stay here again. The staff were on point...heck everything was the food, the rooms everything was great. I can't wait to come back before I ship out. Thanks for an awesome experience y'all!

The hotel and facilities were top notch. The bar food was sub par, and the hotel staff were rude toward those there for MEPS.

Stayed here for MEPS in 2018, they treated us very well and made sure I was comfortable before I left for Air Force basic training.

Nice pool comfortable beds and great food, would rate 5 stars if not for the fact that they had a fire alarm go off for no reason at 2 am

Customer service is on point! Ms. Ashley at check in made it so easy. The Beds are so comfortable, and rooms are nice.

I checked in with Jasmine last night and she greeted me with a smile. I wasn t happy with my room and she immediately accommodated me with housekeeping. I also was assisted by Holly & Mickey for breakfast and again awesome service.

We called after checking into the Downtown Sheraton and it being so loud we couldn't even nap. Paper thin walls. I called Todd at the Front Desk and he took magnificent care of us, even putting us in a suite for our anniversary weekend. Newly remodeled rooms were clean, well-styled, and QUIET.

Beautiful Marriott hotel!! Our client stayed at this hotel and got ready in one of the down stairs conference rooms. There was a ton of space and great lighting for pre-ceremony pictures.
