I could not give 5 stars due to the fact that the ROOF TOP hot tub was out of service!! The hot tub was supposed to be the "icing on the cake" for my surprise birthday stay. I feel we should have been notified prior to our stay (I had to PAY IN FULL when I booked 2 MONTHS PRIOR). If nothing else, a slight discount on the $254 per night fee might have been offered. And since they were informed that it was a birthday celebration, they could have offered a small gesture, such as a note... or better yet, saying happy birthday upon arrival.
As for the food.....5 stars. Wait staff did very well given the fact that they were servicing more table than they should have. The castle itself was very beautiful. We loved our room.

This is one of my favorite places to stay, in town or out. It is nice for me because it is close to home but also I feel like I am in a whole new place. I loved the tour and all of the historical aspects. Everyone is very knowledgeable about the building and surrounding area. The rooms are beautiful. Our room had a hand painted ceiling with LED lights that changed colors. It was so pretty in the dark. I loved seeing the room with tree branches running through the marble floor. I loved hearing about how the home was built. The tour was very informative. Even though there were others in the castle it seemed quiet and private and so very relaxing. It is a great place to bring your partner for a romantic getaway or a friend to grab a drink and walk around the grounds. The have a spa, a roof top hot tub and a sauna. Everything is relaxing and everyone makes you feel so welcome.
Now onto the dinner. I am a bit of a food snob and I love going to new restaurants and trying new things. The cuisine here is amazing. They outdo themselves every time. I love trying things I don't normally like because if they make it here I know I love it no matter what. The best food I have ever had at a restaurant by far. My next plan is to try the murder mystery dinner. Hope to see you there!!

Would never go back or recommend to anyone. My friends and I were told that we could use the hot tub by the carriage house. We were looking forward to it all night but when we went to get in, we found that it was completely drained of water. Also, the temp in our room had to have been in the mid 80s with no way to control it. A definite disappointment!

A delicious experience you have to try. We enjoyed a great atmosphere and great food. The meal was a gift for my wife's birthday. Next time I think we may book a room. Don't overlook this attraction!

I attended a bridal shower at the Henderson Castle a month ago. The grounds are beautiful, loved the flowers, and the view from the top was very nice. They served high tea (a couple of teabags to choose from) and the food was ok but there certainly wasn't much of it (the hostess was so embarrassed) and service was slow. I would not recommend this place.

Absolutely awesome! Beautiful, amazing, and very haunted!!! We stayed in the Dutch room on the second floor, all evening you could hear things going on, on the third floor even though no one was staying up there! When I would go up to check it out, all would be very quiet and still. Loved it, going back soon and taking my grand kids, they are adventurous and I know they will love it. Side note, after 9:00 pm all staff goes home for the night. So if you happen to be the only guests like us, your all alone in Henderson Castle. BIG FUN!

Call ahead. It's our fault for not doing so, but we got there at noon to do a wine tasting, but they didn't have one till 3pm. Bar was closed and the desk staff hardly looked up from her phone. But it is a beautiful place.

On July 1, 2015 my fiance and I arrived at Henderson Castle for a romantic evening in the Castle's cottage. When we arrived for the prepaid vacation, we couldn't get our IPAD to connect to the internet so we could listen to music and dance. After several attempts, I went to the front desk to inform the clerk who came to the room to assist. She also couldn't get the IPAD to connect and told us that sometimes IPAD won't connect to their internet. She said she'd call the owner, Francois. She came back and told us that Francois suggested that we reboot the system, which we did but still got no connection. Giving up on the internet, we turned on the TV to see if we could find something fun to watch together on TV. Unfortunately, all we got was a "no signal" message. Again, I went to the front desk where the clerk attempted to contact Francois. She left a voice mail to which he didn't respond in a timely manner. About 15 minutes later, I went back to the front desk and the clerk sent several text messages to Francois, neither of which he returned. At that time I asked that we be moved to another room that had functioning amenities and was told that there were no other rooms available. We waited another 15-20 minutes but by this time it was almost 9pm and we decided to leave. Since that evening I have been trying to get a refund if the $111 we prepaid for the room. I spoke with Ruby the next day and she told me that she had talked with the desk clerk about the problem. She also mentioned that they were having internet problems and someone had been out that day (July 2) to correct the problem. Ruby told me that would discuss the issue with the hotel manager and someone would contact me within 24 hours. No one did. After leaving several voice mails over the next 2 weeks (none of which were returned), I finally spoke with Jennifer, the hotel manager on July 16th. She said she had talked with my fiance several times about the issue but that was a flat out lie. Mine was the only number the hotel had and she had never contacted me. She then said she would discuss the matter with Francois. I spoke with Jennifer again today (July 17th) and she told me that Francois is refusing to give a refund. She said that he checked the room after we left and both the internet and TV were working fine. I responded that if everything was working fine, we wouldn't have left as we were excited about staying in the Castle. To this she had no response. Do not waste your hard earned money on this "Castle".

My husband and I spent a night at the castle for our Belated anniversary trip and we really enjoyed it! The castle is gorgeous, the staff is very friendly, and the food was delicious. We purchased the Romance VIP package which included champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, a 7 course dinner, breakfast in bed, a tour of the castle, and a couples' massage. We felt very spoiled!

I'm rating it a little lower than a 5 because I would have liked for the tour to discuss more history about the castle. We also had a leak in our room; this of course is forgivable because it was tended to right away and after all, the castle is over 100 years old.

We are a student organization at wmu, we had our banquet here and it was astounding . The set up for our event was perfect and the servers were so nice. The food was amazing big shout out to Francois for the food it was joyous and I loved how we had a gift table set up. They also were able to provide a projector screen for our video show. All around great time we will be booking for our next banquet in the winter. The cheesecake dessert was out of this world

This is literally the least competent place I've s...

This is literally the least competent place I've stayed. I didn't even have the worst time of the people we went with. This is just my story, but it was so bad all we could do was laugh.
First, it was frigid all night. There was no heat.
The first morning, around 8, a staff member walked into our room (no knock) while we were undressed and informed us we'd be moving right away because our room was booked for another guest that evening. We moved, and this room was ridiculous... Bed didn't fit, lights didn't work, the bathroom was literally a toilet, a sink, AND a shower with a curtain in about 10 sq ft. With one person in the shower, there's no room to use the toilet. The smallest TV you could imagine was affixed to an oversized wall mount, directly above the bed where it could not be seen.
We went downstairs for breakfast, and I asked the waiter what their "omelette du jour" was. He said he'd check, came back and told me that it's the " omelette of the day", and we'd get a side with it in exchange for a good review. So, we went up the road for breakfast at a fraction of the price.
We came back to find out that our second room had also been booked already, this time by another guest walking in on us. The staff offered us, who were from very out of town, a wine tasting. They informed us that we didn't have a reservation for the next night after all!
Then suddenly, we did, and they gave us another room. This one had one Jacuzzi and no shower, so getting ready to go out was an ordeal in itself. That room at least had an electric stove to warm it up.
Lastly, in all cases, the amenities were not functioning.
Netflix didn't work, there was no iron or hair dryer, the bathrobes were dirty, and the place was literally falling apart around us.
Hope the food is good, because the waiter forgot me at dinner, so I couldn't tell you.

I am shocked to see any review for this venue higher than two stars. There are so many issues with Henderson Castle that my first time ever being there was a HUGE let down. My heart broke as I saw my friend go through months and months of having to fight for the wedding she wanted not to mention all that she signed a contract for! She was cycled through multiple coordinators because they either left due to a horrendous work environment or they were fired.

My hope for her big day was that they would go out of their way to make it special but they were ill prepared at every turn. People in the bridal party had to help do things that they truthfully should have gotten paid to do. One example being, members of the bridal party helped to serve the food as the castle was well understaffed.

Even with the new responsibility of a member of the staff, I'm beyond thankful that I was not a guest at this wedding as I would have had to wait for over 30 minutes to get a drink. My family was invited to the wedding and I was floored to see my dad still in line after many many minutes of standing in the SAME spot. I eventually got him a drink myself as he was no where near the front and I knew his untouched food would be gone by the time he got his drinks. It truly felt like the only way to get anything done that day was to have someone in the bridal party do it. A bridesmaid will do whatever they can to make the bride's day go smoothly, but should they really have to do all the things listed above?

As a bride myself, I would not even consider having your wedding at Henderson Castle. The above grievances barely scrape the surface of all the ineptitude of this venue.

The one star is only for the beauty of the place.

The one star is only for the beauty of the place.

We just stayed at your beautiful Henderson Castle. The day before we arrived we received an email with a receipt showing an additional $18 charge to our credit card with no note on what the charge was for. We sent an email back inquiring about the change. We called and left a message. Finally we received a call back. When the person was asked what the charge was for we were told they could charge anything they chose to charge. We were originally quoted $120 plus tax.

We arrived late afternoon. No one seemed to know where the desk clerk was; and when he appeared we had to sign all types of waivers. We were finally given the Tibetan room with the French room key which we discovered later. Minor problem. It was cool in the room so we turned the tiny space heater on and went out to dinner. Still very cold on our return. Finally found someone to help (again no one around) and they couldn t turn the radiator heat on so they moved us to the French room. It heated up fine. We slept off and on most of the night because the room was in full light due to the huge yard lights outside our window not to mention the loud noise of the heater. The mattress felt like it was the original one from 1895.

Bed and Breakfast is not a term I would use for this highly impersonal inn. Customer service was hard to find, and management obviously an unknown entity. There were many unwelcoming cautionary signs everywhere, don t sit, don t touch, don t bring this in. And then on to the breakfast. We were offered a continental style breakfast OR if we wanted to write a review right then on their website, we could upgrade to a $8.99 breakfast of either a waffle, French toast or an omelette. (We ve always found a delicious and unique breakfast is the drawing card at B&Bs.) Here the fruit was dry, hard strawberries and withered grapes. There were two tiny dry pieces of bread (no butter, no jams) with scrambled eggs. The waiter didn t even serve beverages. You had to go to another room for that. We were encouraged via a note to tip $8, $12, or $15!!! At a bed and breakfast? I don t think so.

We have gone to many B&Bs over the years and never have seen anything like this one. B&Bs are always a joy to go to as we sit and talk with our hosts and enjoy the whole ambiance of the place. All in all, we could never recommend this place with a good conscious. And we would never return.

Thanksgiving dinner was a bust. The waiter was sweating with a hangover; the appetizer and salad we're plated yesterday and wilted. Mashed potatoes were cold and hard - appropriately plated with an ice cream scoop. The turkey was cold - the steak was ok. The place has amazing potential but it just doesn't seem to live up to it. Wear a jacket - it's cold.

UPDATE - after posting this review we were promptly contacted by the manager. She was very understanding, made note of the issues, assured us that they would be corrected, and offered to make up for our bad experience. That's true professionalism - I trust that she will implement the changes needed to help the Henderson achieve its potential.

It was missing a lot of the little things. We were in the Italian Room for two nights. There were cobwebs on the bathroom light fixture. The shower was out of order and we were not told in advance. Many light bulbs were out. The marble floor wasn't swept or moped under the furniture which was highly visible. The love seat in the room which was an antique had the fabric so worn and torn you were afraid to sit on it. Several times when we wanted to go to the rooftop hot tub we weren't allowed to go because someone was having a massage and you have to pass through that area to go to the roof top. They definitely need to relocate where the massages are given and take time to make sure everything is dusted, polished, light bulbs working etc. It is a beautiful Bed & Breakfast, but it is the little things that will make or break a visit to it.

We stayed overnight at the castle and attended a mystery dinner. I had purchased the tickets to this event two months prior to the dinner. I emailed the coordinator as well as called and spoke to staff regarding information I would need for the dinner. I recieved no response from the email and the girl who answered the phone told me I would not need any prior information. When we arrived the day of the event the staff was great and the hotel was beautiful. We were very excited to attend the dinner as we have never been to a mystery dinner before. We dressed in our 20s costumes and went to the ballroom only to be told we were not on the list and should have received character information prior to the event. They hastily assigned us characters and we missed the horsdeorves as we were trying to read and understand what our characters were and who to talk to. My boyfriend has a hard time reading without reading glasses and needs light. He had no glasses and there was low lighting so I tried to read it to him... all of this caused frustration and tension. We made the best of it and did enjoy our experience. The dinner was not wonderful and they forgot to put dressing on our salads but it wasnt horrible.
After the event I tried again to email and call the coordinator and recieved no response. I then emailed the mystery providers and they did respond by forwarding my concerns to the bed and breakfast coordinator who did respond that he would look into it and get back to me...which he never did. So essentially no response from the hotel management before or after the event. This was an expensive dinner and an even more expensive overnight stay at a mediocre bed and breakfast with bad managment. I would recommend to spend your money elsewhere.

Paid for the overnight, wine tasting, and dinner for my mom and her husband for a Christmas gift and honeymoon. They had such an amazing time. They loved their Victorian room. They had an amazing dinner and they had fun hearing the history along with the bartender. They are planning to go back in July. Must say it was worth every penny!! Would definitely recommend.

What a charming place. However, we were disappointed in our dinner. It was very slow in coming, even after others received their dinner although they arrived after us. Our meat was supposed to be medium well, but it was clearly red. Our grandson sent his back twice to be reheated and I sent mine back once. Our son-in-law did not send his back, but he should have. The garlic mashed potatoes were quite tasteless. The server was very apologetic. We don't blame her.

Booked months in advanced with several hours of travel. An hour before arrival the staff calls us to confirm our arrival time and states we cant come yet due to a wedding. Also that the amenities that we were previously entitled to were unavailable due to this wedding. Then that our room was unavailable because it was somehow double booked. Oh and no manager available to discuss this matter. Couldn't even stay in the main building.

Henderson Castle was an awesome experience. The castle had so many areas to explore and enjoy. The food was AMAZING. We made friends and enjoyed the hot tub on the roof. We can not to stay here again. Everyone made us feel at home and treated us to the best experience you could have here. Also, the massages were to die for. We bought a living social voucher for a tour with ...

We bought a living social voucher for a tour with wine tasting and charcuterie tray for two people. The "value" was $170.00. I paid $75 (with tax and mandatory gratuity, see below). It was maybe worth $20 a person and that is being generous. If you don't want all the detail below, we did not get the full tour described on the site, the wine mediocre and the "charcuterie" tray was supermarket cheese and sliced meat.

First we arrived and though there were 3 people at the desk they were too busy talking to help us check in. After a line formed someone came over to help us. We knew we would have to pay tax and gratuity, but we did not know it was up front and gratuity was a mandatory amount. After the service, I can see why they would want it up front. Also, we did not understand who receives the gratuity? The guide? The wine server? I would have preferred to tip them personally to ensure they receive it.

The tour was a huge disappointment. We enjoy going on tour such as these and the lack of historical information about the previous owners and the property in general was severely lacking. This is not the fault of our guide, who seemed friendly, but knew very little about anything about the house. There was no history on the Henderson Family. At one point in the tour it was mentioned a college used it as a dormitory, but no idea on dates, or any information. The most information about the home was on Mr. Royse, but even that was fairly limited to the work done on the home.

The tour was also much shorter than described. We missed most of the third floor because there was an event. No one mentioned this when we made the reservation, we could have chosen another day. The tour description was to include the grounds, orchard and winery but we saw none of this. At the end of the tour we asked about it and was told it was not included.

We then went to the wine tasting in the new cave. The server was very nice and very knowledgable about the wines. The wines themselves were drinkable, but really not good for the $25 a bottle they were changing. We did not get the trays until after the tasting. This is apparently how they do it, as the group before us had the same treatment. Except it started raining at the end of the tasting so we had to carry our trays, uncovered in a downpour to the front porch and huddle in the corner because all the other table were taken. It was very strange.

Save your money. We could have had a very nice meal and bottle of wine for what we paid for this and gotten far more enjoyment.

The food wasn't very good and it was very expensive. The chandelier in our room had half of the bulbs in and wasn't bright enough to light he whole room, also there were some train tracks somewhere around the "castle" so it was very loud. The mattress left me sore in the morning and didn't it didn't even fit the bed frame. The shower was odd because there was no lip so the water would stay in the shower. The bathroom was very small and when you took a shower the water got all over the floor including around the sink and toilet. We went out to dinner and when we came back around 9:30 and the door was locked. They gave us some keys that worked but it was very inconvenient. When we got in around 9:30 and there were hardly any lights on. Only one other room booked but the people staying there were out. We were there alone and it was very creepy and eerily quiet. I wouldn't stay here again.

I booked my room online, and used the posted pictures and listed amenities to make my decision. At $250 for my one night stay, I expected a wonderful, upscale experience. Be advised, breakfast at this B&B is at an extra cost, prepaid upon reservation. We did not stay for the breakfast we had already paid for to avoid any further disappointment. I came in and checked into my room, and once the door opened, my initial excitement quickly faded. I had booked the "Miracle Room", and frankly the only thing miraculous about it was that they considered it a room. It was no bigger than a walk in closet, and had no decor. The paint on the ceiling was peeling, and there were cobwebs everywhere. There weren't even curtains or shades on the windows. The bed was placed awkwardly in the center of the tower and the bathroom was to the immediate right, in what I can only assume was previously used as storage. The Jacuzzi tub was placed in the back right of the closet sized space with the ceiling at such an angle overhead, that you would be lucky not to bump your head while trying to sit and relax. Needless to say, there was no shower. I went downstairs after checking available reservations online, and was told the rooms showing available were not actually the rooms available. We were then given the choice to stay in "Cottage Suite B", which resides in the renovated garage. I am not sure which was worse. There was very little mismatched decor, and the place had an odor akin to a seasonal cabin not aired out after a long winter; it was stuffy and musty. The bathroom had broken floor tiles and the toilet shifted when sat upon. Aside from that, the cheap toiletries supplied were half used and there was dirt and cobwebs under the empty shelving units that ran the length of the room. The bed left much to be desired; reminded me of sleeping on a futon. Additionally, the wifi does not work in the cottage "suites". the Inn Keeper did not ask how my stay was, and since there is a prominent disclaimer advising there are no refunds for any reason, at any time, I am guessing he is very aware of how my stay was. The gardens are overgrown, and overall my choice of accommodation was shabby, and misrepresented. I feel swindled. Please avoid the Miracle Room and Cottage Suites if you want to get even close to the experience you think you are paying for. Horrible stay, will never return.

Wow, how disappointing this place is. Lot's of promises, rooftop hot tub, outside hot tub, sauna, and steam room, but none available. Bed is so squeaky and uncomfortable, bar closes at 9pm but no outside alcohol allowed. Carpet has not been vacuumed, just filthy. Staff clueless and unfriendly. Motel 6 would be an upgrade. It is a disgrace to Henderson family. The room was hot, and all the windows are glued shut. The whole place looks like it's going to fall apart. Just s horrible experience. The only reason I gave two stars is because it is a castle after all.

The building is historical and in general could be really great. BLUF- Go to the happy hour at the bar from 4-6 to check it out and say you have been there... Then stay at a real b&b.

Not sure if it's a restaraunt that you can also sleep at or a banquet hall that you can also sleep at but I would not think of this place as a B&B.

The nicest views and locations with a proper fireplace in the main house are part of the restaurant. The common area is only open in the evenings has no fireplace and a pretty beat up sectional.

I spent two days there being told what not to do and constantly had staff trying to upsell me on stuff. Also if you are particular about a place being put together right this place may get under your skin.

We had an amazing time at the Castle this fall season. The food and spa were top notch! I highly recommend getting a room in the Castle itself, however. The ones "across the lawn" are in an old two story house that just feels like an apartment building.

The wine was good but they smooze you into trying other drinks but beware they are not free or "included" with the tasting. Every drink is $10! Don't tip either because 18% is already included in the outrageous price of the wine tasting. Even with Groupon its $30/person. I'd call it a rip off.

Our experienced was mixed. The gardens and grounds...

Our experienced was mixed. The gardens and grounds were beautiful, the breakfast was good and was very fresh. The Castle had some beautiful details, like ornate woodwork and leaded glass windows. Our room was simple but cute and generally clean.
However, when my boyfriend booked the room, the confirmation said we'd be in the Tibetan room at the Castle. When we checked in, we were informed we'd be in a different room at the guesthouse across the street (though the nightly rate was the same). We did not read reviews of the Castle beforehand had we, we would've learned that this seems to happen regularly and without any recourse. Reviews of the Castle seemed pretty mixed and my boyfriend and I wonder if this may be due to the different experiences of guests staying in the main castle building vs. the guesthouse.
The castle is on a big steep hill... the guesthouse is down the hill, across the street in a residential neighborhood. The staff repeatedly reassured us that we would have access to all the same amenities as guests in the main building. It was beautiful outdoors during our stay so the walk wasn't bad and we were able to take a short cut climbing up the hill rather than walking around to the road, but this wasn't what we were expecting and it would've been an unpleasant walk if it had been cold or rainy out and unlike the guests staying in the Castle, we couldn't saunter down to breakfast in our PJs. Parking at the guesthouse is also very limited and parking on the street is prohibited overnight. The guesthouse is a historic house but it seemed a bit run down (especially the kitchen) and was significantly less impressive and less fancy than the castle.
Also - the website says that every room has free wifi, however, it seemed that only rooms in the Castle had free wifi, not the guesthouse. I called the front desk for help accessing the internet from our room - the staff person I spoke to provided the wifi password but when I asked which network guests could use, I was told it should have Henderson or Henderson castle in the name. No such network was available from our room. We looked around the house but couldn't find a router. When we went to breakfast the next morning, we were able to access the wifi from the main house but every room did NOT include free wifi as their website suggests.
If you're interested in booking - I would suggest calling the castle directly and specifically requesting a room in the main Castle building. In general, this place seems overpriced and mismanaged and I couldn t recommend it.

We stayed in the Queen s Tower for our Anniversary...

We stayed in the Queen s Tower for our Anniversary last week. From start to finish it was a romantic, magical, fun and memorable experience. Upon arrival we did the wine tasting. There were 8 others there wine tasting also, and we had such a great time. The Bartender was so much fun and so knowledgeable and surprised all of us with cheese crackers and chocolate covered strawberries. The strawberries, champagne, rose petals and roses in our room along with the robes and slippers offered a beautiful and romantic presentation. Dinner at H Prime was one of the best meals we ve ever eaten. We ended our evening sitting in the roof top hot tub. The next morning a delicious breakfast was delivered to our room, and we enjoyed it on the balcony. Right after checkout we enjoy a fabulous couples massage and were served champagne and strawberries once again. We felt pampered our entire stay. Customer Service was top notch from start to finish. Our experience was important to each Staff member. The attention to detail is so impressive. The Castle is authentic, and that was what we had hoped for. The bed had a great mattress topper and was so comfortable. This was exactly the getaway we had hoped for and the price was so affordable.

My husband and I received a gift card as a wedding...

My husband and I received a gift card as a wedding gift so we decided to plan a night there. Overall we were very pleased with our experience. We will most definitely be back in the future. I do, however, have some suggestions based on some experiences that we did have while we were there so future guests hopefully do not experience this:
1. My car could not get up the driveway in this horrible weather so I was instructed that I could park in the street in front of their vineyard. When we came down to leave the next day we had a parking ticket. Yes it was only $15.00 but I was quite annoyed by this since being told I could park there I didn't expect to get a ticket. (Maybe the Henderson could pay this in future instances considering how much a patron could pay just staying one night)
2. Twice we had food forgotten and yes the first time I didn't say anything since it was getting close to dinner time (that's on me) but the second time when food was forgotten with our breakfast I did and the lady at the front desk was helpful and took it off our bill. (Really not a HUGE deal by any means but the small details might really matter to another patron)
We are pretty chill people so these things were not the end of the world by any means and we most definitely enjoyed our experience. All the staff was amazing and the food was all wonderful. We cannot wait to return for a future anniversary.

We just celebrated our 18th anniversary by staying for the weekend at Henderson Castle (first time). Dakkar was a wonderful host; he was extremely attentive, showed us around after setting us in and was pleasant and helpful all weekend. He is an asset to the castle; hope he is kept on staff as long as possible! Our server Jacquelyn was excellent during the seven-course meal, which was worth the whole experience! Anthony was also a class act; we completely appreciated his efforts to see that our dinner went smoothly.

Reading on the porch and sampling wine at the wine cave were also highlights of the stay. Thanks to the staff - especially the ones mentioned above. I hope they are recognized for their work! It was a wonderful anniversary - we will be back!

I have always been a big fan of castles, so when I found out there was one here in town, I was so excited. What is it like to live in a castle? That must be so cool. I have gone by Henderson castle many times, but don't know if I've ever been inside cause I was hit by a car when I was 10 and my memory sucks. It'd be so cool to win a new tv cause my old one broke when I was trying to connect it to my computer. I have always loved that castle as long as I recall though.

Cute place and beautiful decor, but for the price it would be great to have a few more amenities, particularly coffee. The coffee served at the breakfast was terrible at best. The automatic 20% gratuity seemed excessive and due to the price and uncomfortable mattress we likely will never come here again. For what we paid we should have had a comfortable bed and good coffee.

This is the biggest rip-off ever run by a con man who calls himself a master French chef. The food is horrible, the service is not great, and the manager lied to us that our $127.00 tab would be refunded to us as the food was cold, definitely NOT gourmet by ANY stretch of the imagination, and was extremely poor quality as well as being poorly prepared AND extremely overpriced. My best advice is RUN away from this sick joke of a restaurant and its lying, con game!!!

So let me assure everyone, this place is not haunted despite rumors online. My kids are very open to ghosts and tried really hard to encounter one during our stay. Instead of meeting a ghost, they enjoyed the gourmet breakfast, the rooftop hot tub and the relaxing atmosphere. Our waiter was very
sweet as was the kind hostess who checked us in. (The evening hostess could have been a little nicer but...)

BEWARE!!!! Don't have your wedding here. We had our wedding here last year and nothing went as planned. My husband and I are from Chicago, but had our wedding here because our family is in Michigan. The Henderson Castle is so beautiful, but the staff is incompetent to say the least. I made several trips to meet with the wedding coordinator (Courtney) and nothing went right. Their DJ didn't show up the day of the wedding, we paid in advance for beer/wine/liquor during the reception but the bartender stilled charged our guests and there were no table and chairs at our reception. Absolutely nothing went right. it's a beautiful property but the staff isn't equipped at all to handle a wedding.

This place is giving away a t.v on facebook to people leaving google reviews. Thats a pretty bad buisness practice. People depend on honest reviews to help them make a decision on where to spend their money.

I want to start out by saying the staff was great,...

I want to start out by saying the staff was great, everyone we interacted with was very nice and helpful. However, in rating the hotel I wouldn't pay to stay there again. The rooms are old, creaky, and have problems. We started out in the vineyard room, but when we ran the bath on our second day, it was clear it hadn't been run in sometime and the jets spewed out mold. The hotel staff was very helpful and warmly changed our room to the Dutch room, which appeared to be quite an upgrade. The only problem there was that the sink was constantly running and the cold water didn't work, so if you wanted to wash your hands then you had to be scalded or do so in the bath. As for the breakfast, I would have preferred a serve yourself continental to the one I was served. The fruit was gross (i.e. all squishy grapes) and, though they were served very 'prettily', the eggs were unappretizing. The included options weren't very appealing to begin with, which was a disappointment. Also, there was no water at breakfast and only tiny bottles in the room, so I spent my time at the hotel thirsty (partly my own fault because the tap water never got cold and I didn't like the taste). Further, we were not forewarned of the ongoing construction on the roof and we're awakened to the work in the morning. This also made for an unwelcoming atmosphere and we didn't get to appreciate the grounds. Again, I'm not trying to bash the hotel, the staff were great and it's simply an old building, but I personally wouldn't return, nor would I recommend it.

This is a beautiful place. Francois has a wonderful vision. His cooks were nice and wonderful people, very generous and professional. The event planner/wedding planner that was in there when he first started out made the experience awful. I don't know if this person is still there. We had been so excited to have our wedding at the castle. The planner gave us a great tour, told us all our options, and let us go on our way to contact them at a later time. Well, I did contact them, and when I asked a few questions regarding some changes and decisions we had made, the planners story had completely changed and our options were no longer available. The planner acted very rude and angry for wanting to go with different options than what they suggested. The hourly rate went from $250 an hour to $1100 an hour. I understand they were in the very beginning stages of creating event packages, but this did not seem to be the issue (that they had created packages and I needed to chose one). We were very put off and I was very upset that I had in some way made the planner angry from asking questions regarding our options. We opted out of the location and were very sad to do so. Wish this person had been more professional because it truly is a beautiful location and would have been wonderful for out of town family to be staying in the Castle.

We stayed the night last night for our 3rd wedding anniversary. We stayed in the Miracle room and it was nice. The staff was great and even carried in our dog s kennel from the car while wearing a tux.

We ate at the H Prime Chop House for dinner the food met our expectations even though they had run out of ice cream for our dessert.

We enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. Our waiter, Mekseb was wonderful we actually had him for dinner and again for breakfast this morning. He was very attentive to our needs and explained the different options for breakfast. We decided to upgrade so I had the french toast which was delicious and my husband got the waffles.

All in all, it was a good experience.

It's a wonderful part of Kalamazoo history but is slightly outdated. My mom and I had a mother's day lunch and massage there but it was not the experience I had pictured. The service was very slow but they did end up giving us a cream from the gift shop to compensate which I thought smelled funny and may have been expired. And the massage "hut" was a small little building not attached to Henderson and was just weird all around. Not what I was hoping for but still am hoping for some sort of comeback/re-vamp for the future!

We read the amenities, $20 off dinner coupon, plush, memory foam beds in every room, check in time is 4 P.M.
We arrive at 4:30, there is a dinner mystery scheduled, the only dinner time available is 5 P.M. So, that is a wasted perk.
We are escorted to the carriage house Suite A.
We put out bags on the bed, loud groaning from the bed frame. We set down and the bed frame or mattress foundation the sound with every movement was loud. It was like loose or broken boards squeaking.

We mentioned this to the front desk clerk. He had no other rooms and shrugged his shoulders.

We wish we had made other arrangments. This did not live up to the hype. The room seems to have been thrown together.

Gorgeous old-style mansion and rooms. Had some issues connecting with them to get reservations, and stayed the first two days of a pandemic shutdown, so there wasn't a lot going on there. Also, make sure you are aware of their policies to bring in food from the outside. Pretty unusual.

I was booked for a castle tour and wine tasting on today. I am not able to make my reservation due to a flight cancellation due to the weather. I called and left a message requesting to rebook and received a phone call back stating that the HR Director said they are unable to reschedule or offer a refund because it is a same day cancellation. This lack of common courtesy or customer service for extenuating circumstances is atrocious. Safe to say I will not be visiting them anytime soon or recommending their services.

Our visit was for all intents and purposes, a bit ...

Our visit was for all intents and purposes, a bit of a disaster. We decided to have a family Christmas celebration at the Castle and we reserved 4 guest rooms with a total of 8 guests on the 27th of December. We reserved the rooms ahead of time and there were very few other folks staying there and it is also worth noting that the dining room was very quiet that evening. Our experience was not a result of not knowing we were coming or dealing with too many folks to serve it was just a disaster because of poor planning and terrible work in the kitchen. Let's start with what they didn't have....After offering our granddaughters Shirley Temples to drink, we were informed there wasn't any Grenadine. Ok...small thing...but that was the first of many things they were out of. I ordered the Roasted Romaine Salad...."I'm sorry, we are out of lettuce"....Really???!!! Did you know we were coming???? Ok, "could I have some hot herbal tea" Four requests later, I was brought some green tea without being asked what I wanted... which I do not like. I asked another server if there was any other tea...."Why yes" and then I was given a choice. After I was given a choice, I waited another hour to get the tea. "Do you have any sweetener?" Response...."UH, we are out of it" Again...??????? I went back to my room and raided the coffee set-up and brought down some sweet and low. Let's talk quality. My son-in-law ordered a rare steak and got a well-done one and my daughter ordered a medium rare steak and it was so rare it looked like steak tar-tar. We waited more than 90-minutes for our food which was not well prepared. It was a disaster....Some things were over cooked and some things undercooked. The only thing that saved the evening was visiting with family. The servers kept apologizing but it really did not help. I changed my order from the salad to another dish with a vegetable that they returned to say they were out of. Ok, after this disaster of a dinner which was REALLY pricey, they were going to check on us going up to the hot tub since it had snowed. They never got back to us so we gave up. The next morning the breakfast was also ill-fated. The heat in the breakfast room was not working at the coldest time of the year and instead of moving us to the dining room, we all huddled in our coats for breakfast. Once again, they were out of sausage, so I had to change to bacon. They did not serve it with my eggs....It came much later. They made my son's omelette incorrectly and then when they remade it, which took another 45-minutes. They brought things to everyone one at a time because things were done properly in the kitchen....Disaster again. We had already begun the plans to bring a party of 27 to the Murder Mystery Dinner in February and needless to say, we aborted that plan. If you can't successfully 8, how can you serve 27? I was so disappointed that this visit at the Castle went so poorly. I would like to see every business succeed but there needs to be considerable attention paid to service, efficiency, quality and price if that is going to happen. I would not stay there again, nor would I recommend the Castle to others without significant improvements.

Booked the first Haunted Dinner & Tour event of the season. I was very disappointed. You can scratch tour out completely, because there isn t one. The place is a restaurant and basically bed and breakfast. You can t tour the basement or the rooms. Let alone find anything haunting. You can admire the second story living area, that s about it. I was very excited about the tour and definitely excited to see if we could find some haunted activity or know the history behind it. Unfortunately, none of that was addressed. When I spoke with management they basically dismissed me saying they found it unfortunate it didn t enjoy my time. With that being said, I wouldn t go back. Management was rude and sloppy. Tickets were very expensive and definitely not worth it. The dinner was okay. Should have just gone to Perry s Steakhouse for the amount we spent and got a delicious dinner with some good wine. And the tour was non-existent.

Definitely not worth the money for a stay, hotel is a small, unkept small house that is a few blocks from the actual castle. And there is no connection between the hotel and the actual castle. Awful experience all the way around.
Just go for a castle tour if you must waste money at this venue
