I had to leave a star to leave a review, given the opportunity I would have left 1/4 star. Upon arrival I waited, and waited for the girl in the tank top to finish her phone conversation; about 5 /10 minutes before we were even acknowledged. She then took us to our $300 a night suite but oddly enough she didn t go any further than the doorway. One might expect a tiny tour of the room to point out the amenities; I get it now.
We quickly realized we wouldn t be bathing in our room as the tub was filthy, one could easily visibly see the dirt and hair in the tub; more on that in a bit, it gets better. One might expect a bar of soap in a $300 room, nope, not here. Thankfully, we were smart enough to bring our own toiletries because they supply nothing except a 1/2 used role of toilet paper perched on top of the toilet. However, the toilet flushed, most of the time.
We took a tour of the grounds on our own and couldn t help but come to the realization this beautiful property was clearly being run by the clueless. Plastic hangers still affixed to underwater dying plants adorn the porch. Cigarette butts litter the outdoor ashtrays for a nice whiff before you enter the castle; nice touch. Cases of empty bottles for ones visual enjoyment on the patio, a gazebo in need of brick repair, a metal fence that is a lawsuit waiting to happen when someone cuts their arm on the jagged metal posts once more validate, there is no management going on here.
On to our 5 star $132 dinner fiasco. First, let s give credit where credit is due; our waitress, bless her heart, maintained a sense of professionalism throughout this disastrous ordeal. One hour to get a shrimp cocktail appetizer and a baked Brie that was nothing spectacular. Another hour to get our entrees, and again, nothing spectacular and having been in the restaurant business, way overpriced. We were told to let the waitress know we were guest and we would receive $20 off the check; we did, and you guessed it, we didn t. The following day I brought this to the attention of the front desk clerk, (I use that term loosely), and she took my information and assured me I would be credited. It is now going on 3 weeks and of course, no credit as of yet. I tried calling today 8/27/20 got their voicemail, I m less than hopeful I receive a call back.
We signed up for a guided tour because we were genuinely intrigued by what we heard about this place and wished to know more. What better way than to spend $35 for an inspiring tour guided by the professional. Well, the tour guided didn t show and after waiting over a half an hour, the front desk girl was charged with giving us this special 45 minute tour. In the first 120 seconds it was clear my partner knew more about this establishment than she did. Reading a xerox copy of castle facts that sounded like something off Wikipedia was a nice touch; NOT. So for the hint of sarcasm but it was a grueling weekend.
We reserved a 90 minute spa package for I believe just over $200. I would like to say they were on time but, you guessed it, they were not. We were left waiting in the lobby for over 30 minutes for the masseuse to meet us and take us up the stairs to the spa. The wait wasn t without at least a little excitement. My partner missed getting struck in the head by only inches when the restaurant ceiling came in pieces do to water leaks. We were just that close to owning this place DANG! Seriously though, another indication of poor hospitality management, the employees were quick to explain, its been leaking forever, they just don t fix things. Shocker.
Needless to say I m completely perplexed that this establishment has a rating of 3.8 stars. I forgot to mention, I tipped the young man, who was pleasant enough, in an effort to get our
shower cleaned properly, he said he d take care of it and of course let us know he was not the one who cleaned it originally. Wasted tip; no showering Just a filthy establishment don t waste your money!
