Love this place! A sanctuary of health and hope! Thank you all so much for continuing to have such a wonderful place to buy organic produce and products. I know that I need not research what I buy from Great Basin Community Co-op because the dedicated team has found all the real treasures I could need!

Sincerely,

Their customer service is terrible, the prices are...

Their customer service is terrible, the prices are way too high, if something starts selling well they raise the prices, and their prepared food has given me stomach aches and terrible diarrhea so many times I am afraid to eat it.

I will start discussing food. I admit I haven't tried their food since they opened their kitchen upstairs. I haven't because when the kitchen was downstairs I would eat their soups and their burritos and always get diarrhea. I am now frightened that I will need to rush to a potty after eating their food.

My hubby and I used to go into the GBCFC several times a week to either grocery shop or to buy lunch or both. I would buy the house made burritos a lot, as mentioned above, and the prices on those burritos started going up drastically. First they were 5.99, then they were 6.99, and before you knew it they were $10. (I will mention that their breakfast burritos aren't as expensive as their lunch burritos.) Their 10 dollar burrito wasn't worth the price both in taste and in size, so my hubby and I started buying frozen burritos. Those started at about 2.49. Next I knew it they were 2.99, and then they were all of a sudden 3.69 for a small frozen burrito. You can get the same thing at Raleys for 1.99 or 2.49. Raleys also sells a lot of locally grown food and has excellent customer service.

When the GBCFC was in its infancy they had very competitive prices. It was a pleasure to shop there even when it was without a/c in the summer. The sisters who own it made sure their customers were taken care of. When they moved to Court and Flint they became overly priggish and they no longer seem to care for their customers that keep their doors open.

I have been shopping with the food co-op since they were located on Wells. It has to have been back as early as 2004. I started paying for the membership annually by 2006 or 2007 when they moved to Plumas. I was told I made it to the 10 year mark and had become part member owner. Then later they mentioned to me that my membership had expired. I called and tried to communicate with someone about this and they didn't even bother to call me back. I have watched the customer service drastically go downhill over the years. I have even seen good employees leave due to the issues behind the scenes.

I will leave a positive note in my slew of issues. No one carries the produce that the GBCFC does. They have an excellent selection of produce year round.

I would be very grateful to receive an apology and get my membership worked out. It would be a step in the right direction with improving their customer service in my eyes. Until then I will advise people not to shop there because I feel they will be taken advantage of, and I will express my poor experiences over the recent years.

Juice. Fresh pressed, wholesome, organic, delicious juice. Best juice in Reno. My favorite is the avocado, coconut water, celery, spinach, kale, banana smoothie. If you are in Reno and looking for fresh juices, go to Great Basin Community Food Coop.

I ate in the cafe and it was kinda a sad experience.
The chocolate pudding was disgusting very watery and gross, the chicken soup had non existent chicken with almost no veggies in it , it was basically just broth and was extremely bland yet flavored with chili Which was spicy and weird for chicken soup it was very non traditional! I left there thinking to myself what the heck did I just pay $40 for? At least the tuna melt was really good. If Im gonna pay 20 each for two people to eat very little I d of at least expect higher quality in general. I d expect to pay these kinda prices in the bay and at least get something good - totally not worth it. The people working there were nice though. Also the fact that there was really no parking and they had a sign threatening to tow you unless you were a shopper only (if you were visiting the cafe it didnt count) and you only got to park for 30 min max was pretty lame sounding. I actually parked around the corner but after putting almost a dollar in the meter it nearly ran out before i could get to it after only 20 min. I didnt realize Reno was so lame.

They have fair prices, organics in every department - even wine - locally sourced foods and friendly staff. Plenty of options for vegans too. And if you become a member you get 10% of one order each month. I love this place!

This place is a Godsend! Although I think the co-op is amazing with fair prices, I'm writing this review based on the Food Shed Cafe.

The food is amazing! Delicious. Good portions. Something for everybody - vegans, vegetarians, carnivores, etc. And great prices when you compare them to mostly organic restaurants nationwide.

The only place who labels their food to such an extent is Erewhon Market in LA - the celebrity supermarket that makes Whole Foods look like a discounter. Everything at Watershed is 1/2 to 1/3 of their price.

And everybody who works there is kind and helpful!

On my way traveling through the desert, this food oasis helped me with a box of fresh produce, bulk snacks, and deliciously hearty hot soup, all reasonably priced and a helpful staff that obviously had far deeper reasons to provide outstanding customer service than the mere need for a paycheck.

This place has just about everything I need that other stores do not. Too much packaging in the fridge section next to the registers for sandwiches and such. "waisted one time use plastic" got one vegan rice wrap and it was very hard couldn't even eat it! But upstairs! Yum! Go have lunch here you will not regret it! Jar and egg carton reusing is great! Bring your old jars and leave them for others to use or refill yours and maybe with this place you can be on a journey to a plastic free life! I love the bulk food and soap no more feeling guilty for buying so many plastic bottles and containers for the soaps herbs spices powders and so much more! I sure love this place! Beautiful and handsome friendly people here! "love the lovely locks a few rock there too"

Very nice place, immediately you will notice the great aromas coming from this very clean and well stocked co-op. The building is great and very classy. The foods are natural and tea is by the scoop, at $1.19 an ounce. The vegetables looked very clean, and the refrigerator was well stocked with meats, cheeses, and vegetarian food.

I was pretty excited to go to this place. The Cafe was not open due to COVID, so I can't speak to that. Overall very small and had less veggies than expected. Lot of similar items can be found at Walmart. They did have the Alfalfa sprouts I could not find anywhere else.

Friendly staff with a diverse selection of products. The selection of products is great, with lots of local produce and meat. Maybe not your only grocery stop due to the higher prices, but definitely a great place to buy produce, meats, and maybe that lil round of fancy cheese you keep eyeing to treat yourself!

This place is awesome! Excellent quality, excellent service.

Best produce around, awesome bulk dept, great meat selection, excellent dairy and egg choices, and a fabulous deli upstairs.

GBCFCO is a wonderful resource, who clearly cares about food quality and our community.

The prices are absolutely fair when product quality is considered. Sure, prices may be higher than other stores with lower quality products but when comparing other organic grocers in the area, GBCFCO tends to have comparable prices and the best quality. As we all know, fresh oats are more expensive than oats that have already been through a horse.

The food coop is small, but clean with great selection and good pricing on organic and local produce. They encourage you to bring your own bag but also carry recyclable paper bags for those who don't. Customer service is great and the employee are very helpful and friendly.

Only place of it's kind here and worth supporting. You may pay more but when you look at the break down, noone is making a big profit, it just costs alot more to grow without chemicals and in smaller amounts. I looked into it and saw that this co op does this because they care about a community that takes care of the planet and each other, not for profit.

Love this place. Worth it! Price wise is consistent with any health food store, actually cheaper than Whole Foods. Love the superfood lattes! matcha, turmeric, and beet superfood lattes are great. Also this is my fav place to get an almond milk latte- so good. I love that they don t make it scorching hot (because hello that ruins the nutritional value of the drink) The burritos are STELLAR!!! Seriously cannot make it through a week without craving one. Any of them are great- also plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan needs. The sweet potato to go salad is SO GOOD- fresh juice is always available and all are great super healing blends. Plenty of parking but also great to walk the distance for and I love the upstairs seating- it always feels like a great warm community being inside the CoOp. Thank you Great Basin CoOp for existing, me and my family love you.

Reno is lucky to have such an awesome little co-op! Their selection is amazing, the staff are incredibly friendly (and we were the last people in for the night!), and the overall vibe is spot-on! Not only do they have local options but everything I saw was organic and even their pre-prepared food was all organic, vegan, and made in house! We will definitely be back next time we are near Reno! Down with whole foods!! Support your local (conscious) businesses!

The GM is quite the human, resilient, compassionate and well spoken. She can help with understanding the food system and watershed and sheds great light on the needs of the local economy in northern Nevada. Her thirst for helping her staff grow as people is beautiful. I guess it helps that the coop brings in amazing products, listens to members and helps our local farmers. 10/10 stars, shop here.

Always good to see a thriving food co-op and a friendly staff in places we visit. The cafe upstairs was a special bonus. Well prepared food for a lunch break. Pretty standard selection of groceries. Produce was in good shape and high quality.

About coop Reno

Coop Reno is a locally grown and community-owned company that has been serving the people of Reno since 2005. The company is dedicated to providing high-quality products and services to its customers while also supporting the local community.

One of the things that sets Coop Reno apart from other companies is its commitment to sustainability. The company sources its products from local farmers and producers, which not only supports the local economy but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

In addition to sourcing locally, Coop Reno also offers a wide range of organic and non-GMO products. This commitment to healthy living extends beyond just food, as Coop Reno also offers natural cleaning supplies, personal care items, and supplements.

But Coop Reno isn't just about selling products - it's about building a community. The company hosts events throughout the year that bring together members of the community for educational workshops, cooking classes, and more. These events are designed to promote healthy living while also fostering a sense of connection among members of the community.

Another unique aspect of Coop Reno is its ownership structure. As a cooperative business model, all members have an equal say in how the business operates. This means that profits are shared among members rather than going solely to shareholders or executives.

Overall, Coop Reno is much more than just a grocery store - it's a hub for sustainable living and community building in Northern Nevada. With its commitment to sourcing locally grown products, promoting healthy living through education and events, and operating as a cooperative business model where everyone has an equal say in how things are run; it's no wonder why this company has become such an integral part of our local culture since 2005!
