It's so hard to talk to some one. It's all machines and when finally someone answers the phone they tranfer you to another department that does not answer. We have so many questions and I believe that we have the right to have someone working in there that can answer them.

This is a correctional facility, even though it's open 24/7 if you are a detaine. Meaning you are under arrest and you are doing time here. It's only open to the public from 9a.m. to 9p.m. for inquiries, posting bail, and visits.

My daughter has been there for three months. Compared to dupage county the officers have always been respectful helpful and just have helped make a bad experience better. My daughter has also said compared to dupage they seem to treat her like a human instead of an animal. After all the bad things you hear it has been at least as ok experience as it can be despite the circumstances. Thank you cook county jail.

So I guess I'll say something serious. Believe it or not jails do have standards by which they must treat and house inmates, especially when you consider most are pretrial and thus have not been proved proven guilty of any offenses (remember "innocent till proven guilty).

Cook county is one of the most sued jails in the country and for good reason. Massive overcrowding, inmates being held in buildings that have been condemned for both health and safety issues, understaffing leading to rampant violence, horrible medical care of even the most basic ailments, the list goes on. Also, jails are required to provide basic hygiene items (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, etc). Your lucky if you receive even 2 of these at cook county. Their goal is to force you to buy such necessities off their comissary (a "canteen store" system available to those with money on the books). They take basic items, mark them up about 400 percent, and sell them to a desperate and literally captive market. Underwear, socks, t-shirts, and small food items as well as hygiene. If you have no money and cannot get any sent to you, you could be stuck wearing the same pair of socks and underwear till your released. Prisoners of war get treated better.

I get the desire to joke about this place, but there are many decent people who end up their over decisions and indiscretions that most of society has committed at one time or another. Anybody could end up in this place. And you must remember that most of these people will return to society one day. Do you want them to return as productive members of society, or angry resentful people whose experience with the "corrections" system has taught them only violence and hate?

"The best way to understand a society is to examine how it treats it's criminals/malcontents".

Best. Vacation. EVER!

Best. Vacation. EVER!
Not only was the front desk so hospitable, but my room was ready right when I got there. How amazing is that? The only downside was that I was assigned a roommate but I think we re becoming best friends. The steak I ordered was a little under cooked but I highly recommended the Pinot Noire. 10/10 would gladly come back.

Some of these reviews crack me up as someone who grew up in the Chicago area for over twenty years. Some people seem to be a bit confused...this is a jail in the south side suburb of Cicero in Chicago. It's Cook County so it's not going to be a nice place to be convicted to because Cook County does not play around.

What a horrible place, One sandwich and one juice for the whole entire day. Horrible conditions, the bull pin was exactly the same from 9am to 7pm. No one cleaned it , huge jumping roaches everywhere, no running water to wash your hands no sanitize stations, My mouth was so dry the entire time, rest rooms was disgusting, so I did't eat there, so I wouldn't have to use their bathroom. I recommend never go there.

The system sucks the monitors are like looking through the bottom of a Pepsi bottle. Not clean stinks. Visiting hours suck. The food looks horrible and not befitting for a dog to eat. Yet the money is rolling in. 2.00 to put money on the books on the machine in the facility 11.99 on line. It s a way to break ethnic races while the others can do what they want. What happen to justice so now it s just us. No concern for stresses on the home and kids list of income. Who do you trust not the system it s broken and needs work. Even through the glass you can t here with the rusty metal mouth piece. Getting money period.

I am from Lafayette, Indiana. Unfortunately, my son suffers from PTSD and was incarcerated for public intoxication. I was unable to bond him out, but my father had the means. My father is 83 years old. We drove two hours to Cook County Jail. When we arrived at the building to pay bond, a customer service representative, Mr. Danner, explained the process to us. My father had to go to a different building to pay his bond. After waiting an hour, I asked Mr. Danner about the length of time. He was very kind and explained everything that had to happen before my father could pay. Apparently they had to wait on the information to arrive from Lake County where he was arrested. After another hour, I went back to him because I was concerned about my father. He is not in the best health. Mr. Danner called over to the building and checked to make sure he was doing ok. That took away the stress I was feeling. I was waiting outside on the benches, and when Mr. Danner was leaving for lunch, he told me he was leaving and wished us luck. This experience was difficult for me, and Mr. Danner made it tolerable. I'm not sure he knew what a difference he made--but his kindness and helpfulness was very much appreciated.

So they MAKE you go here. you have absolutely no say in the matter. I wouldn't mind if they forced me to go to new york or LA or something, but no, this place is super boring and you CANT LEAVE!! the food is pretty good.

When my two sons and my feasay was lockup in division eleven the guards has a very nasty attitude toward me and they feel like they can talk to you or say anything that they want to say to you and if you get smart with them back they will revote your visit period.

Wish I could give them zero stars the ladies that work in finance are so rude and ignorant! Very unprofessional you can't talk to them in a professional manner I've had a better conversation with mental health patients than them, these people need to either retire or have a Psychological evaluation that's how I feel talking to people that work in certain departments at the Cook County jail.

Love it

This is the worst most evil place in the world. Both my ex husband and current husband are there right now.I have anxiety attacks every time im there. I don't understand how people can be there up to 2 years, and thats a "normal" thing there. How is art and defending children a felfelony? Every officer should remember that they are dumber then most of the inmates. You can't be a cop if you have a high I.Q

This is the book bounty this place sucks, and why would it not? The food is very bad, the guards are lazy and racist and the inmates think they are tough. Some of them are cool though but its bounty so this place isnt a walk in the park. And the states attorney tried to book me because i dressed nice everytime i went to court. Petty
