My daughter has now been to the Swedish Language camp for three summers. It has been a life-changing experience. Her Swedish is superb. She can understand movies and newscasts in Swedish, she often speaks to me in Swedish which I sort of get because I speak German, she even sang the St. Lucia songs with electric candles on her head before Christmas. More importantly, however, she has friends all over the country with whom she is in regular contact. Last year when she left we had a bit of a falling out over responsibility and expectations. When she returned that was all gone. She went from being a not-so-delightful 13 year old to the charming kid she is now. The cost is steep if you live outside Minnesota. We got some help and frankly, I save the rest of the year to afford it but it is worth ever single dime. Next fall she will apply to spend her junior year in high school in Sweden and I know that will just be the next step in a wonderful international life.

I work at this place in the summer delivering food and mail. When we get to a camp to deliver stuff the kids and fully immersed in the culture and language of the camp they are at. There are so many smiles and laughing that it makes you leave knowing they kids love it.

My son went to Waldsee German Language Camp several times and loved it. The Swiss camp was his first introduction to French. He continued French all through high school. He now also has native fluency in spoken German and he speaks fluent Mandarin and a bit of Cantonese. In a few days will be dropping off his nephews at Waldsee. He can hardly wait to share his memories with them. Absolutely worth the 14 hour drive from Cleveland, Ohio for this intense immersion experience. Authentic food, music, activities and young native speakers who enjoy kids. He loved the singing/Abendkreis most of all.

I was a kid back in the 90 s when I went here and it was terrible. I hated every single day. It s not a fun summer camp where you learn to speak another language. Hopefully they have changed. I m sure there is a high turn over rate, but I d never send my kids here.

I did the high school Spanish emersion program at Cass Lake and I loved the first two weeks and hated the second two weeks. The site was fine I've been to summer camp before and it was no different but the counselors treat the campers like we're not capable of being alone for two seconds. I was fifteen when I went and the same rules that applied to a nine year old applied to me. I can walk for a minute to go to the shower house by myself I don't need an adult following me. Also the emphasis on grades was ridiculous. My school wouldn't have even looked at them but I still felt very stressed and I can deal with stress at home but not there. The activities were terrible also and I hated it.

I have been in El lago del bosque (spanish camp) a few days ago, and it was IN-CRE-DI-BLE. All people are very close and understading and its pretty clear that they are very coordinate. I went with a school and I have to say: Im 100% sure that kids will remember this for years. Absolutely recommended.

Absolutely fantastic experience for our daughter. Cannot imagine how a person could "hate" it. All the fun of regular summer camp with language immersion and instruction. An amazing and beautiful place.

As children and adults, my family has attended CLV camps since 2012. The camps and villages are are part of our family and we treasure the moments that we spend learning languages in the North Woods of Minnesota. The teachers are kind, patient, and warmly welcome all into the villages.

We first started at the Norwegian village being 4 humans that could not speak a word of Norwegian. Now, two are fluent and two can show up for breakfast on time.

My kids count down the days until they can return to camp.

Ps: The food is incredible!!!

This is my sons 4th year at Waldsee German village. I can't think of a better place for him to spend his summers. He has learned so much there, and looks forward to working there next year. Some staff has been returning for 15, 20 years or more...that tells you something right there. Worth every penny, and the 10 hour drive!!

My kids have been doing Concordia Language Villages for 10 years now. We've done Spanish, French Hackensack & Bemidji, and German. My kids love this program - it is the highlight of their summer.

I like the program because it is total immersion and teaches kids how to understand and speak the language vs. just book learning. Also, Concordia gives the kids a "real" camp experience and keeps them off of tv watching, texting, video games and Facebook for 2 - 4 weeks. They even find they can survive without electronics!

Couldn't recommend Concordia enough - it's a great program.

This is the best language immersion experience you can have anywhere. Nestled in the North Woods of Minnesota, they have gone to great lengths to create an ambiance of culturally authentic language learning. I used to go to the Chinese Language Village many years ago, and I still come to celebrate International Day at Waldsee, the German Village, whenever I can. Once you see this place, you will know you are somewhere unique. I cannot imagine a better place to send kids or even the entire family during the summer or year-round.

If you have a chance, let your children stay here. They will have so much fun they won't realize they are learning. Our experience is with Skogfjorden Norwegian camp. Can not say enough positive things about the staff.

For SPANISH CAMP: What I wish was more clearly stated...the Cass Lake site is not the photos you see on the website. It is poorly maintained, with spiders in shared bathrooms that kids have to leave their bunk rooms with flashlight to access. The water is from the lake, and not filtered so the kids don't want to drink it or shower in it. The food is delicious if you don't have allergies, but if you have an allergy the "alternate" choice lacks flavor and they have limited vegetables and unripened or canned fruit. It's the same price as the well-maintained Bemiji site, and when we heard rave reviews about Concordia we didn't know there was such a big difference in the locations. Sadly even the lake had leeches in it, so kids didn't swim and to use canoes needed to pass a "swim test", so no canoeing either. WHAT WAS GREAT: the people are fantastic. They were kind, understanding, and did their best to help kids who were homesick. But it's hard to learn when you're feeling hungry, dirty, and can't sleep well (beds were like camping for two weeks). Wish the experience was more consistent for kids across camps. They did visit the German camp and said it was BEAUTIFUL. So choose your camp site wisely! Learn German?! Hope this helps....
