I have worked with Sumner for over sixteen years. Throughout all the changes our community has endured, it has maintained a high level of resident centered care. The campus and buildings are designed as attainable luxury. Many of our team members have served our community with excellence for years. During my career I have spent time in most senior living communities in northeast Ohio. I have yet to find a perfect community. However, I can say with confidence that Concordia at Sumner provides an excellent senior living environment by caring and compassionate people!

Concordia at Sumner is a blessing! I looked at and compared many care facilities in the Akron/Fairlawn area before choosing Concordia at Sumner for my dad. I know I made the right decision! I go often to visit my dad and when I leave him, I am at peace - confident that he is being well taken care of!
The employees and staff truly care about my dad! They are diligent in every aspect of his care. They treat him with kindness and respect. The doctors and nurses listen to my concerns, communicate well with me, keep me informed, and have taken good care of dad's medical needs. If necessary, they make outside doctor/dental appointments and arrange transportation. They have been very prompt and courteous in submitting documents for his insurance, etc.
Dad's room is spacious with two large windows. We brought furniture and decorations from home which helps him feel at home. His room is kept neat and clean and it smells clean. His laundry is done and hung nicely in his closet.
There are many activities and social functions available for my dad and our family. They also have ways to stay in touch with dad when I can't be there or for friends and family who live far away.
It's home away from home for my dad! He's happy and so am I! Thank you all at Concordia of Sumner! You are a blessing!
This is an update. Why I agreed to give this place another try, I'll never know. It is the worst facility I have even been in and all the employees I've talked to are disgrundled. They won't say anything because they need a job.
I arrived this afternoon after having knee replacement 3 days ago. I have done everything myself. I asked for water when I first arrived and yet to see any. Two tv's and neither work. The bed makes such a racket that even earplugs won't drown out the hum. Go somewhere else!! Anywhere else! If I could walk up the 2 necessary steps...I'd be going home after being here for only 5 hours.
had an appointment today to visit the Rehabilitation Center with the Admissions Director for entry after my knee surgery. It was at 1:00. The admissions person never showed but finally called me at 2:30 stating that she was on the property but no one called her. Hmm....knowing you have a 1:00 appt, shouldn't you be near your office? She apologized and, luckily I live close by so I went and signed up for my after surgery care.
Worst experience ever! We checked our 91 year old mother in to the medical care facility after a hip replacement for recovery and therapy on a Friday evening. They gave her a beeper to wear around her neck in case she needed assistance. Saturday morning she needed assistance to use the restroom and used the beeper. No one showed up so in about an hour she called my brother who lives a few miles from the facility but it was too late so there was quite a mess that HE had to clean up! This lack of service continued throughout the weekend. The only thing the staff had to say was that they were understaffed and very busy. And they all had an attitude except for the night time nurses that administer drugs. Eventually someone said that they knew the buzzers weren t working but didn t bother to tell anyone. We met a very nice social worker on staff there on Monday morning and signed her out of there a week early. What a nightmare!
The facility is beautiful. Some staff were awesome. Some staff were inattentive, indignant and condenscending. Communication between staff and the patient s family is poor. I assume these problems are similar at many nursing facilities.
Horrified by the lack of oversight and shortage of staff at this facility. During my mother s stay, we were forced to stay overnight and during the day with my mom due to the lack of attention and care at this facility. My mother, who is early 70 s and very active normally walks 5 plus miles per day had experienced a fall that shattered her knee. She was left in bed for 1.5 hours when she rang for a nurse ...found out the only nurse or staff member one on site had left the building altogether to cover other buildings. My sister and I have stayed with her day and night due to poor care at this facility. Meds not given on time and patients left for many hours on end. I wouldn t leave my puppies here. Barely a 1 Star....it may look new and beautiful on the outside, but be assured the money is only spent on those aesthetics. Not on staffing qualified care team members. All of our questions and requests were met with hostility upon arrival via transfer from CLE Clinic/Akron General. Staff was rude and sarcastic and unprofessional. The beds and pillows are uncomfortable and plastic mattresses that cause patients to sweat and feel further discomfort. We were there for short term rehab and horrified by what we saw. The only positive reviews are found in the PTs and OTs.
Please note the response from Concordia to my review, which is not true. And for some reason I am not able to respond to Concordia s response on my review so I will do it here. NO, we did not speak to an Administrator and get to the bottom of the issues . Nothing was resolved. In fact, we are taking my mother out of the facility today even though she needs to continue to rehab her knee. A young perky administrator came by my mom s room while we were eating dinner and talked at us. Nothing resolved. Didn t even get her full name, she wrote her first name and number on our dinner napkin in case we wanted to reach her.
What I have witnessed in the treatment of elderly patients and in the care of patients at the facility has been sad and eye opening for me. My mother is a young 74 and active and not a long term patient but she was vulnerable and in need of a week of rehab from a trauma that left her immobile. Thank GOD she could advocate for herself and that my sister and I stayed at the facility day and night with her along with my father. My heart bleeds for patients in their care long term.
We are fortunate to find Concordia for a home for my mom The staff is kind and loving Her aides are attentive and friendly They laugh and talk with her daily The cleaning people are considerate Her room is always fresh and clean The nurses and social worker are great The Director is extraordinary Her door is always open She is available to both residents and family I feel great relief knowing mom is safe and cared for with compassion and respect It s a beautiful facility , but its the people inside that make Concordia a special place to live
I am a return employee. I came back to Concordia based on their vision and mission statement. I love being an employee with this company. There is so much room for internal growth. After my brief leave from the company I quickly realized that they were by far the best company I had ever worked for. They believe in their employees. Our beautiful campus is full of amenities. Since we are community based living, all of our residents needs can be met on campus. I am and forever will be greatful for this company.
My mother has lived at Concordia at Sumner since it first opened This is the premier retirement facility in the Akron area, and is certainly a Top 10 property in the State of Ohio. I am a retired businessman with 45 years of experience, and I can t say enough about how well managed it is. The CEO, Charlene Kish, is the best executive in the business, and the entire staff has been a joy to work with over the years. 5 Stars!!!
My aunt was a patient here. I walked around and couldn't find anyone. I asked to speak to someone in charge, and I was told she wasn't available. My aunt told me no one ever comes when she pushes her button for help. I would not recommend this facility. The patients are on their own. I left there feeling upset and scared because my aunt was somewhere that she couldn't get help. I was afraid for her. I am glad she is home now.
I have worked on this campus for ten years and everyone I meet says to me I can tell you love your job! and hands down they are absolutely right! Concordia at Sumner has been my home and the residents and staff are one big family. The residents are so incredibly happy to call it home with caring competent staff who go above and beyond to make their experience in every level of care a wonderful one.
I am a current housekeeper at this facility....i really feel housekeepers are highly unrecognized...even though housekeepers are the lower level employees..we dedicate our time to assuring this facility is perfect cleanliness wise...apprieciation is so much due to the supervisor sharon moore. .the best supervisor ive ever was in contact with throughout my years of employment...so...somebody give a shoutout to her
