Very nice facility. Staff listens, nursing line is greatly helpful. This was the first time I've experienced hospice. Mom lived two weeks longer then the Drs estimated. My mental and physical issues led me to need my own hospitalisation before and while she passed. My three sisters handled most of everything. I did feel handled by the staff and looking back I feel a little sick to my stomach about that. What's done is done. It felt like they thought themselves as the experts and told the family whatever it took to maintain their plan, working us while counseling mom through secretly.
Let me be clear, I have paranoia issues that flare up at times like this so I'm still not sure if my interpretation of these events are accurate but six months later I still feel this way. Usually if it's a case of my paranoia interpreting events then at some point I reflect and see that I was just silly, but not this time. My grief could certainly be altering my view. This was the hardest thing to get through so far and I still feel played. I pray this isn't the feeling I'm left with.
I have much experience with the healthcare system but Hospice seems very foreign and continues to elude me.

Wonderful organization doing truly important work to provide love and compassion to patients and family at one of the most difficult times of anyone s life. They also have convenient meeting space. I presented to a group of fundraisers here.

Be very wary of Admission RNs, their job is to market and sell services, even in healthcare. Think used car salespersons. Do not believe what they tell you. Jessica, RN admit nurse 'helped' me by arranging transport home to begin hospice services. She told me that my mother must go by cart and they use their preferred provider, Liberty Ambulance (any kickbacks? I have no idea) and if my mother goes by cart it will be fully covered by medicare. That is completely untrue, medicare or most insurance for that matter, will not pay for transport that is not medically necessary. So now I am stuck with an unneeded ambulance charge of $440. My mother could have been transported by wheelchair, which would have been maybe a $100 charge. Calls to Community Hospice. both billing dept and Jessica's supervisor are of no help. The billing dept doesn't return phone calls. The nursing supervisor, Karen, seemed to be reading a disclaimer statement about what they don't cover. Hey Community Hospice, how about reading the disclaimer about payments when selling your product. Just be honest, don't lie or mislead. Instead, these admission RNs will tell you that things will be covered, but just sign here if there are any charges not covered.

A beautiful facility with thoughtful, sympathetic staff. It is a hard thing to say a hospice visit was "excellent" because of the nature of the experience, but I do think this is an excellent facility.
